BREAKING: This is a STEAL for the Rangers…
We have breaking news as New York Rangers fans can take a sigh of relief. The New York Rangers have officially resigned Will Culie to a 2-year contract extension. We’re going to break down the specifics of this contract extension and the implications it has on the team and the salary cap moving forward. We’re going to break it all down in this episode of Rangers Digest. But before we do that, a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. about 77% of you who watch these videos are not subscribed to the channel. You don’t want to miss out on anything happening like a Will extension and it’s finally come. Brett and I have been talking about it for the last little while and I’ve been saying, “Man, this needs to get done because I’m starting to get worried.” and he was entering offer sheet territory, but Chris Jury got it done. And there’s also a Kandre Miller trade hanging in the balance right now. We’re going to get to that as soon as it does come down with the specifics of the trade, but this is a good day. Will Koulie has been resigned and as you can tell and as I’ve been saying in videos before, I absolutely love Will I think he’s a fantastic player and I bought his jersey last year because he is just that good. Such a big fan of his and I’m so glad they got this done. This is from Elliot Freriedman. $3.9 million on, like I said off the top, a 2year contract extension. So, yes, it is a bridge. Not necessarily ideal, of course, but he is going to get paid a lot more in two years, but that’s okay. You got him locked up for next season, the season after that, and the salary cap’s going up probably around 20 million combined by that time. So, you will be okay. And if you take a look at the JFresh chart uh chart, excuse me, he is a shot first two-way winger who hits everything that moves. And we saw that not only does he bring the offense, not only does he bring the defense, but we know that Will Coulie brings the boom. We know that. We saw that not only last season, the season before that. I’m so glad that they have extended him to two years at $3.9 million. Now, the implications that this has on the rest of the team, the salary cap, of course, if you take a look here at the current cap projection, this doesn’t actually include Kandre Miller. So, keep that in mind because Kandre Miller is unsigned. He’s an RFA right now. And if they trade him, it’s not going to affect the cap at all because he’s doesn’t even have a contract right now. He’s not counting against the cap. And they can’t bring him back either because they can’t afford to do that right now. So, you have Will And might I add, by the way, the Will contract extension right here at uh $3.9 million. I just want to say that that’s pretty good value. We were expecting a little bit over 4 million. Actually, we were saying 3.5 to maybe 4.5 million. So, I was expecting worst case scenario a little bit more. Actually, worst case scenario, it might have been six by another team. That’s what we were hearing. An offer sheet could have been $6 million. I was getting worried that the Rangers weren’t going to be able to match that. But, I’m glad that they got this done at this dollar amount. And as you can see here, Will Coulie fresh new contract there. The $3.9 million on the top left wing or sorry, second line left wing there with Keandre Miller uh with JT Miller, excuse me. Too many Millers on the team. I guess at this point they’re going to something’s got to give, right? But um obviously Miller up the middle, Kulie on the left wing there. We don’t know exactly how the lines are going to shape up, but this is how Puckedia has it right now. And almost everybody signed. You got Gabricov down there now at $7 million. And of course, Miller is down there as an RFA. He will be traded today. It’s going down with the Hurricanes. We don’t have the specifics on the trade just yet, but we will get to that as soon as it happens. Now, the Rangers, $1.4 million in cap space. Something has to give, I would imagine. I mean, I know Chris Jurian, we’ve been talking about this so much, does not want to move off Carson Susi. And the reason for that, if you missed it, is Carson Susi, his values never been lower essentially. I mean, it’s it’s been tanked a bit by the New York Rangers. It was a bad move by Chris Jerry. At the time, I said there could be some value there, especially if the Rangers ended up making the playoffs. They didn’t, of course. Now, it looks horrible. And, you know, if you’re Chris Jury, I get it. You don’t want to sell low on a player like that. But, I just don’t know how much higher his value is going to get. And you’re holding on to $3.2 million in cap space when you only have 1.4 right now. If you freed up that cap space, you’re looking at four million. You had some flexibility. You can go out and do something else. You can go out and get another defenseman if you want because without Keandre Miller, Susi moves up. You have Vaken Knight in there still. We know Zack Jones, by the way, haven’t had a moment on the channel to address that. Zack Jones leaving. You know, I’m glad he’s going to get an opportunity somewhere else. I really believe in that player. I think he’s a great player. Really, really sucks that it didn’t work out here. Uh because again, I believe in the player and I think he’s great. But they want bigger defenseman, and I can’t agree with this. They want bigger defenseman who can move people from the front of the net uh and can score and of course defend. And that’s why they went out and got for example who is make no mistake about it going to be Adam Fox’s best defense partner ever in his entire career. So very excited to see how that works out. And the lineup starting to take shape a little bit now that Koulie signed. So very excited about that. This is also the contract breakdown. Make it bigger for you guys to see here. In year one, it’s a $2.52 million salary with a $600,000 signing bonus. And in year two, $4.6 million in salary. His AAV, of course, is nine uh sorry, $3.9 million. And this structure, very interesting, from Puckedia. This structure provides max qualifying offer uh a max qualifying offer on expiry at $4.6 million, which will be two years from UFA. So they are, by the way, when this what that means essentially when this contract is up, he’s still actually an RFA in 2027. He’s still not an unrestricted free agent. So not bad. They bridged them. You got him under contract. You made it work for the salary cap space that you have right now. This is good work. I’m glad that it got done. I was starting to get worried about it. And if you took a take a look at the rest of the lineup, like I said, it’s starting to take shape a little bit. You got your goalender locked up. Of course, that contract is a monster contract. We know that your fourth line is locked up for no more than a million dollars each. Fantastic. We don’t know what’s happening with Mika Zabanagad at this point. I would assume he’s staying on the team. He’s probably going to have to play right wing. That’s the only way it makes sense to me at this point. Parsons in 1.2. Clearly, they really believe in that player. I’m interested to see what Mike Sullivan’s going to be able to do with him. Of course, Will Coulie now resigned 3.9. Paneran’s still here for another year. Troche is still here, of course. JT Miller, big differencemaker. I wonder if he’s named captain soon. And Alexi Lafrenir really has to bring his play up to match the contract that he just signed because it has been disappointing so far. And of course, Gaverov’s been added. Borggan was ressigned. I don’t think Braden Schneider is going anywhere. Really good work here for the Rangers to lock up Will And you I mean, we can look at all the advanced analytics all we want. Will Koulie is a fantastic player. I’m glad they got this done and I do wonder what’s next. We do know Keandre Miller is being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. We’re waiting for specifics on that trade. We’ll keep you up to date on the channel with everything that’s going down. Brett will probably have another video on Will as well. Maybe KAR Miller if that goes down officially. Again, we’ll keep you updated on the channel. But let me know in the comments below how you feel about Will returning as a New York Ranger. I’ll tell you, I feel pretty good about it. I’m glad he’s back. And that dollar amount and the years, I’m not too worried about it whatsoever. You’ll figure it out in two years. He’s still an RFA. This was pretty good work to get this done. Although I will say, I’m not going to lie, I was getting a bit worried and I was making that known in these videos, but they got it done and that’s all that matters. Will is still a New York Ranger. Just when everyone lost hope, we signed Will Cuylle.
Finally!
That is cheap what was the hold up? Did Drury want to pay less than this?
Weren’t one of you knuckleheads suggesting they sign him for $7M per year yesterday?
Gracias a Dios
Today is a great day
Cuylle will have the last laugh here. In two years when the cap has gone way up, THAT’S when he gets the big payday…LMFAO
I really just don’t think Mika is the right fit anymore. What do you guys think? He’s contract is way too much. As much as we all love him he’s gotta go
Seems like Drury is doing a pretty good job.
You have to think if Cuyle has a monster year. Rangers will redo his contract before second year ends.
This Puck Pedia cap projection is incorrect. It is closer to $5 million in cap space left
Cools!
Drury likes doing the 2-year Bridge deals. So far, Drury is doing a solid job
Wow losing Jones is disappointing
