How Will Justin Fields Mobility IMPACT The New York Jets Offense?
[Music] All right, guys. What’s going on? Welcome in. So, in this one, I wanted to focus in on Justin Fields running ability, right? Someone who is a top five running quarterback in football. You got guys like Lamar Jackson, Jaylen Herz, uh Josh Allen, right? Justin Fields is right in that mix as a runner. You know, this is someone who I feel like in a sense, it’s weird because, right, Justin Fields is not really considered a franchise quarterback at this point in time, although he of course has the opportunity to do that this season. Um, but he’s not someone that, you know, if you’re just kind of picking quarterbacks, Madden style, fantasy style, whatever, like to start a team like a lot of people are going to go with like Mahomes and Josh Allen and Lamar and Joe Burrow, all these different guys. you’re probably going to go through a decent amount of quarterbacks before you get to Justin Fields. So, it’s going to sound kind of funny here, but I do feel like Justin Fields does raise the floor for this Jets offense to a certain degree, right? In the sense of when the play breaks down, this guy can extend plays, right? Buy time, escape the pocket, keep his eyes down the field, and find someone deep down the field. Another factor is escaping the pocket and watching him move up the field. you know, as again a runner, he’s very difficult to bring down an open field. He can put moves on defenders, but it’s like when guys go to tackle him, like he just doesn’t go down on first contact. Uh like he has like the center of gravity. He’s really balanced as a runner, really strong as a runner, too. It’s it’s like guys don’t pick it up when they, you know, go to make a play. He doesn’t just fall down and crumble, uh like a lot of quarterbacks do. And also, too, for better or for worse, he doesn’t just, you know, look to slide immediately. you know, if there’s uh if there’s room to pick up an extra seven, eight yards, he’s gonna do that. You know, he’s not like running around deer in headlights, head on a swivel, freaking out that he’s beyond the line of scrimmage with the football and guys are looking to take his head off. No, he’s like looking to score. We’ve seen long stretch plays from Justin, 35 yards, 39 yards. What do you have a 65 plus yard a couple years ago? Crazy crazy plays. Uh, I mean, there was one play against Miles Garrett where he like puts him on skates. It’s It’s ridiculous. And just for context, if we look at Justin Field’s rushing numbers through four years as a quarterback, quarterback, not running back, quarterback in football, the numbers are honestly remarkable. Right? Keep in mind, he’s missed some games due to injury. he’s missed some games uh you know because he’s been a backup whether it’s last season with Pittsburgh Russell Wilson or even that first season uh back in 2021 but if we take a look at these first four years Justin has over 2500 rushing yards 19 rushing touchdowns in four years and he’s missing games right go back to 2022 which wasn’t all that long ago over00 rushing yards in 15 games touchdowns dude are you kidding me with a long of 67 7 yards in only 160 attempts, which averages out to 7.1 yards per attempt. Again, for context, here’s Bree Hall’s numbers. I, you know, I think it’s fair to say Bree Hall is a good running back in football. Um, you know, lots of upside. He’s in a contract season. It’s a big year for him. But in three seasons, Bree Hall has 233 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns in 512 attempts. You know, go back to Fields numbers. That’s more yards, more touchdowns in what, less than a 100 attempts. And granted, Fields has played in 10 more games. But we’re comparing a good running back to a quarterback here. You know, there should be a massive distinction between those two to begin with. And the fact that Justin Fields has had a season where he’s had more rushing yards, more touchdowns, uh, less attempts in less games than Bree Hall’s best season, I I think there’s something there. You know, I think that’s relevant to talk about as far as, you know, opposing defensive coordinators game planning and trying to prepare for a Jets offense. And also, for what it’s worth, did the Bears, did the Steelers ever give Justin the system that perfectly fits his skill set? I think it’s debatable and I would probably probably lean towards no. Um, now it’s up in the air if the Jets and Tanner Inkstro will do that. Uh, but I got to say, you know, I if if they sign Justin Fields to a two-year deal on the first day of free agency, uh, we pass on all these quarterbacks in the draft. All to say, Justin, you learn our system. We’re not budging, uh, round peg in a square hole. You know, you do what we have to say, and there’s no sort of wiggle room. There’s no sort of, you know, adjustments being made to fit Justin as a runner, to fit his his strengths as a player. I I think that would just be ridiculous. And and quite frankly, I’m going to be that would not really give me the best first impression of Tannering Strand in this Jets offense, right? You got to build the system around the players that you have, especially the guys that you handp pick in Justin, especially if we’re talking about the quarterback position. So, I think there’s real talent here. And again, I I think for me, the term high floor, it’s kind of interesting because when you think of a high floor player, you think of someone who doesn’t mess up. You think of someone who doesn’t turn the ball over. You think about someone who can just kind of manage the game, Alex Smith, Tyrod Taylor, back with the Buffalo Bills, guys like that. And Justin hasn’t really been that type of player uh throughout the course of his career. But again, I think with this Jets team, he provides a high floor in the sense of when the play breaks down, I can make something happen. Whether that’s throwing the football, whether that’s running the football. If you guys want to call quarterback design runs, I can now do that. If you guys want to call quarterback sneaks, if you guys want to call tush push, goal line, fourth and inches, third and inches, right? Red zone, really utilize Justin Field’s uh legs here. You know, I get flash Mark Sanchez was not a running quarterback, but I get uh flashbacks of uh third and goal, fourth and goal, Rex Ryan spread out, five wide, Mark Sanchez snaps the ball, looks out wide, pump fakes, and then books it up the middle. Imagine Justin Fields doing that. and all he has to do is find one gap to slip through right at his size. You know, again, not going down on first contact with his speed. It’s another big thing with Justin Fields, too. Topend speed. Like when you look at like the um like the uh more advanced analytics, Justin Fields can move. Like he’s one of the faster quarterbacks in football, too. He’s not just some He’s not just like clunking around out there like super heavy footed like boom boom boom like up the field. No, he gets on it and moves like he could get like zero to 100 really really quickly. Uh acceleration is solid. So anyway, let me know your thoughts down below in the comment section on this. How much of an impact and again as a Jet fan kind of because you’re looking at all these past quarterbacks, right? Darnold, Mike White, Aaron Rogers, Zach Wilson, all these different guys. You Josh McCann, you’d probably have to go back to Gino Smith to talk about someone who is you’d probably have to go all the way back to Gino Smith to find someone similar to Fields from an athletic profile as a runner. And you know, it’s been a long time since Gino was was here and even Gino was like pass first, you know, pocket guy. And then, you know, if need be, he will run. But it I mean feel Gino would also look to throw it away and he would take a bunch of sacks and stuff like that. So, I I think they’re kind of two different players, but the point is we it’s been a long time since the Jets have had a real rushing threat at the quarterback position, and uh I’m excited to see how it plays out. Anyway, thanks so much, and as always, go Jets. [Music]

I hope Fields will reduce Fumbling
If Engstrand can get 1/2 the pocket QB operation that Lamar and Allen have out of Fields as a base this year, it would be a huge accomplishment. Watching that unfold is exciting as a fan. Rooting for it for sure.
It will hinder the WRs when they are wide open
The Jets just need a good passing game
Was just about to buy my Jets vs Saints tickets and found out I was deploying 🤦🏽♂️ guess I’ll get to see next year team instead 😢
Who's our backup Qb?
it will open up the passing game.. if they are smart.. which im sure they are..
9-8 floor with this roster. Glenn and staff are going to bring modern efficiency to this organization. Q, Sauce, GW, MC3, Sherwood, Cisco, Breece, Fields promising O-Line, etc. This team is talent loaded seriously might have something here ✈️✈️✈️
3 win team at best.
Having a mobile QB like Fields gives the Jet offense a dimension they haven't had.
He is one of the best running QB’s I have seen. I think if a team is patient he could be one of the better mobile QB’s. The Jets are just not a patient team ever. He is a project. He has the arm strength, and mobility. I do not know about his accuracy or pocket presence. I always felt Gino Smith had what it takes to be a NFL QB. He was just not serious enough when he was with us. For him it was in his head. This kid has the work ethic that Gino missed. So what is missing? He is at a better starting point than Jared Goff on the lions. They made him a ok game manager. I think we can do better with Justin Fields. It will take time. The Jets do not do time well. Need a new owner. 🏈😀✌️
Whats up JETS CENTRAL. Getting closer and closer
This offense should be fun to watch with fields!
The QBs you named all have a decent O-line which Justin is about to have with the Jets
REMEMBER WHEN VINNY RAN THE BALL AND PITCHED IT TO THE BACK 😂😂
Jets need to draft a 26 franchise QB, Fields is here so the OC can install his offense
As long as he can help us improve our 3rd down conversion rate we’re golden
bears fan here. all we heard was how great caleb is, and how much better the team will be with caleb. fields won 7 games with the bears, and if it werent for eberflus being one of the most unqualified head coaches in bears history, the bears would not have blown three separate double digit 4th quarter leads, and the bears woulda won 10 games and been in the playoffs. they could have easily won 9 or 10 games that year if eberflus didnt sit there in prevent defense as soon as they got a lead. they were up by 20+ vs denver and lost. they had a 13 point lead with less than 2 minutes left vs detroit and lost, and then they followed that up with a late 10 point 4th quarter lead vs the browns, only to choke it away.
and then they upgrade a bunch of positions, and draft caleb, and they only win 5 games. they woulda won 10 to 12 games with fields last year, because they woulda got an all time legendary haul for the caleb pick in a trade. personally i wanted to trade down and take jayden, but fields never got a fair shot here in chicago, so i would have been perfectly fine with them keeping him, and building around his strengths. he improved every year, despite awful circumstances. and the one year he had a somewhat decent offense, DJ moore had a career year, and they could have easily won 9-10 games and been a wild card team if eberflus defense didnt blow 3 doube digit 4th quarter leads
Your comparison is skewed.
A RB is primarily for running, catching, and blocking.
A QB is primarily for passing, handing the ball to a RB….and running as a final option. You probably don't want your primary passer…running too often…but it happens.
Now if Fields was passing for 3,000+ yards…and rushing for over 500 yards….
He probably wouldn't be a Jet.
Lol!!!!!
All in on Justin this year!!!
Let's go JETS!!!!
Let’s hope Fields can grasp the offense and create when necessary Let’s go Jets
Since we are in the midst of the MOBILE running QB era, Justin Fields's mobility will only add to the Jets offense and also put extra pressure on opposing defenses. That extra pressure, coupled with a VERY subpar OLine in the recent past 5-10 seasons that is now solidifying( hopefully), and becoming a fading thing of the past, will ADD a much welcomed and necessary dimension to the Jet attack for sure!!! Barring a TOTAL FAILURE of J Fields's passing accuracy and ability throwing, to me, The New York Jets have FINALLY entered into the modern mobility QB Era, for the VERY FIRST TIME!!!!!!!!!! Believe it or not, Zach Wilson was pretty athletic and mobile( because he HAD to be), but NOT in any sense where his teammates were calling him "DAWG", like they are Fields. Wilson could move about and elude some tackles, but Fields strikes me as on another level of athleticism, far superior to Wilson. I hope so. If this plays out as it appears to be at first glance, and if Fields can complete DOWNFIELD passes of 25+ yards somewhat consistently, coupled with a much improved OLine, 2 solid RBs, a touted TE, then this Jet offense should be poised to MOVE THE CHAINS, Stay on the field longer, give this defense more breathing time on the sidelines, and the Jets could be poised to improve in the won/loss column MUCH quicker than any of the "Experts" are predicting. Take your ODDS bet now before some of the W's start to happen.
Can I say this, even if it is old news, please?
I AM SO SO HAPPY AND RELIEVED THAT AARON RODGERS AND THAT STUPID EXPERIMENT IS GONE AND OUT OF THE BUILDING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care if he gets lucky and beats us in week one, don't care. There was NEVER EVER any FUTURE with that Egomaniac, who thinks he's Tom Brady.
BOOM GONE FOR GOOD!!! Jets finally did something RIGHT, when they made him fly across country just to BOOT HIM in less than 15 minutes. STANDING OVATION FIR THAT MOVE!!!!!!!!
Compared to the Achilles Kid Rodgers who couldn’t get out of his own way!Fields with an O-line and TE he’s going to be ELECTRIC!I can’t wait to see our franchise QB lead this team! LFG!JETS!
Justin Fields 🩶🩶🖤💪🔥🔥
On third down and short to medium, Jets have a better chance of converting with a running QB imo. Love your positivity.
