The Mets and Pirates have spoken recently regarding a Mitch Keller trade

  1. Very underrated pitcher who is under team control u til 2028. Would probably be equivalent to Peterson in our rotation. Would be all over this.

  2. Let me get uhhhhh, one Mitch Keller, side of Bryan Reynolds, small IKF to go

  3. Keller is owed almost $60 million through 2028 so we may be able to absorb that cost in the trade and send fewer players.

Would love to grab Keller, very solid pitcher and only 29.

  4. Mitch Keller would make a lot of sense for the Mets rotation, and it’s clear why the Mets would be interested in him

He’s in his age 29 season, and is under contract for three more years after this season, with his AAV being only $15.4M.

This is what Noah Hiles, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, said in relation to the Mets & Keller:

“The Chicago Cubs were the first team to reportedly be interested in Keller. The Post-Gazette learned Friday that the New York Mets have also contacted the Pirates about the veteran right-hander.”

Hiles also tweeted the following pertaining to the Mauricio & Keller trade rumor:

“To be clear, I just reported that the Mets are interested in Keller. No return packages were mentioned in my story.”

  5. Some good info from the Pittsburgh Gazette about the Pirates thinking on Keller:

    Keller in demand
If the Pirates are indeed going to make a splash over the next month, trading right-hander Mitch Keller looks to be the most likely way they will do it. One source believed Keller’s odds of being moved were as high as 70% heading into July, but those odds could have changed due to recent circumstances.

The same source expressed that the Pirates’ willingness to move Keller might have lessened over the past week, following the team’s 6-0 homestand that concluded Wednesday.

“That might have made them want to think things over,” the Post-Gazette was told. “This is an organization who really believes in their players. If they think the team can keep this up, they might not be as interested in moving a player like Mitch.”

This is hardly the first time the Pirates have listened to calls on Keller. The Post-Gazette reported in December that Keller was available over the offseason. Some trade conversations involving Keller lasted all the way into spring training, per sources.

One of the main incentives of moving Keller, as the Post-Gazette reported in December, pertains at least in some part to money. The Pirates signed him to a five-year, $77 million extension in February of last year, which marked the largest deal for a pitcher in franchise history.

While Keller has remained productive since the extension, his salary accounts for a large chunk of the payroll. Keller is the highest-paid player on the active roster, making $15 million this season. He has three remaining years of club control after 2025, and the Pirates are slated to pay him a total of $54.5 million over that stretch.

“There seems to be a line of thinking where if they can get that money off the payroll, it can be used to acquire a hitter,” a source said.

The Chicago Cubs were the first team to reportedly be interested in Keller. The Post-Gazette learned Friday that the New York Mets have also contacted the Pirates about the veteran right-hander.

  6. It makes a long of sense. He’s been dominate over his last few starts.

  7. Makes so much sense that I’d be surprised if the Mets did it EDIT: I partially blame these obnoxious fans who expect every single post to be 300% supportive of every single fucking thing the Mets do for the doomer brigade. Boy you people are easy to disagree with. Some of us have never even seen a championship.

  8. Hope they get it done. Can’t have enough guys like him. Not an ace but a solid pitcher who will keep you in the game more times than not.

  9. Thoroughly average pitcher. Basically a 100 era+ over the past 4 seasons. I thought he was better but the numbers do not support that.

  10. Get em both – Keller and Skenes.

Make em an offer they can’t refuse.

  11. What does it cost?

We need bodies right now but you’d be an asshole to trade prospects for another backend starter.

You would be taking back 60ish million over the next 3 years. I don’t think you want to park a locker for that long for a pitcher of his ilk. Could easily use that money in the off season, 3 times.

We need an innings eater now, in July. We really don’t need a guy like that long term, back of rotation is one spot we have long term depth. We got Manaea for 3/25, this guy will make 17-18-20 for a parking spot.
