Things just took a SHOCKING turn…

things just took a shocking turn as multiple reports have revealed that Keandre Miller is gone his time in New York is up and the Rangers are looking to offload the defenseman but what’s coming back the other way will surprise Rangers fans we’re going to get into all of these reports right now in this episode of Rangers Digest because it seems like the first domino to fall is about to go down we’re going to break it all down in this episode of Rangers Digest but before we do that a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button about 77% of you who watch these videos are not subscribed to the channel so if you want to stay up to date with everything that’s happening with your blue shirts go down below hit that free subscribe button because this is the place to be for all your daily New York Rangers content but Brett you know we thought we were only going to have one video out today but of course it was a little too quiet I think and we have some maybe conflicting reports we’ll get into exactly what all of that entails as the video goes on stay tuned till the end because you know you want to get all these details there’s a lot going on right now as it pertains to Keandre Miller and let’s dive right into it david Chapyro of Blue Sheep uh Blue Seat Blogs excuse me is reporting that Albert Johansson is expected to be part of a package to the New York Rangers in a trade so the Red Wings can get Keandre Miller so we finally have a team that’s been named for Keandre Miller and of course multiple insiders are in on this we’ll get to in a second but Emily Kaplan of ESPN officially reported that the Red Wings have called on Keandre Miller now this is an interesting one the Red Wings just traded away Vladimir Terasenko just an hour ago at this point they freed up some more cap space they have about $22 million in cap space so they can absolutely make this work for the projected cap hit we’ll get into that as well and they just signed Johansson to a 2-year 1.125 million contract so he could be coming the other way in a trade this is pretty uh shocking details i do want to say that Vince Mccoleaniano did say a little while ago that Detroit was a team to watch for for Keandre Miller they’re looking to add on defense as you can see here Terasenko uh you know was just moved and Detroit was named as a fit for Keandre Miller and that they’ve checked in on Keandre Miller we’ll get into the specifics of everything in a second because it looks like there’s a different avenue here brett I wanted to bring this up before I throw it over to you detroit is going to offer sheet Keandre Miller so the real question now is and I think this is super interesting do you take the trade it seems like it could be coming down to this do you make the trade today take a defenseman an NHL caliber defenseman who we’ll break down in a little bit or do you let the offer sheet happen you take the compensation for it what do you think
uh you take the offer sheet compensation on Keandre Miller and you know before I get into it just you’re open there talking about you know daily Rangers content at this point you’re getting hourly Rangers content as we spoke about um in our last video I said “Darus I pretty sure this isn’t goodbye this is till next time because I think I’ll see you here very shortly and we’re both afraid to leave our house at this point because you know it’s going to start happening right now.” But you know you take the offer sheet compensation on Keandre Miller um look the Detroit Red Wings they’re becoming one of those teams like the Anaheim Ducks where it seems like a lot of these ex Rangers go you know we’ve seen Patrick Kane Vladimir Terasenko and now uh Ke Miller seems like he’s about to uh go there and I’m confident in saying that because the Detroit has a ton of cap space as you just mentioned 22 over 22 million to play with and defense just like it’s a area of need for the Rangers it’s a big area of need for the Red Wings and Kandre Miller makes sense for them because if you look at their uh defenseman a lot of aging guys i got it written down right here ben Sherro 34 years of age eric Gustoson 33 years of age and Jeff Petri 37 years of age so I’ve spoken about how the Rangers have a lot of aging players but the Red Wings have a ton of aging defenseman and they could really use uh inject that youth of Ke Miller in there and a guy that’s proven you know not a star not a superstar but a guy that will be an upgrade for the the the Detroit Red Wings got tongue twisted there for the Red Wings he would be an upgrade for them so it makes sense uh that the Red Wings are in on this move
absolutely it would make sense for the Red Wings he would be an upgrade for the New York Rangers obviously we know what we have in Kandre Miller it’s time to move off of him now the one thing I do want to say in this whole situation is while I agree with you that you know if this is on the table is it a trade maybe you just let him go to an offer sheet uh or offers sheet territory and let the Red Wings offer sheet and you take that compensation i would agree that you probably take the compensation at this point but keep in mind Vince Marco said that Detroit is someone you know a team that he’s heard about vince McGloano an insider emily Kaplan an insider roger Hicks NHL insider not really an insider so keep that in mind right we do want to keep that in mind while we’re talking about this stuff i feel like a trade could be more likely now if you look at Albert Johansson who is rumored and was just signed by the Red Wings maybe for a purpose of of course maybe Miller gets signed and then they swap players right that could be something because of course $1 million versus and we’ll get to Keandre Miller’s contract in a second uh versus what he’s going to make there’s a a stark difference there there’s a a big difference so uh you can see Johansson finally made the jump to the NHL last season he played in 61 games almost the entire season for the Detroit Red Wings and he only had nine points he’s a smaller defenseman you know if you’re adding a guy like this on the left wing or the left side I should say of the defense he’s a smaller left shot defenseman where does this leave Vakan in right if you are getting Gabricov which of course looks like it’s happening you know tomorrow as soon as free agency opens where does this leave Vakinan where does this leave Zack Jones we know that you know there he’s available zack Jones is available so is Carson Susi but they don’t want to sell off Carson Susi so who’s going to play on the left side if you acquire this guy right now have a bit of a log jam of you know maybe not mediocre but guys who aren’t going to necessarily make a difference i don’t know if Johansson’s going to be a differencemaker could be a good depth piece that’s for sure and at least you’re getting something back for Keandre but again I you know if the offer sheets out there I would take that compensation instead but how do you feel about a player like this coming in i feel like there’s a bit of a log jam in terms of guys who wouldn’t necessarily make a difference or can play second pairing minutes so it’s just uh very convoluted at this point to me
yeah yeah and the Rangers clearly need a left shot defenseman they clearly want left shot defenseman as I’ve said you know five of their eight draft picks defenseman three of those five left-handed defenseman so Johansson is a left-handed defenseman but the reason I rather take the offer sheet compensation is because the Rangers have just drafted a ton of these left-handed shot defenseman and you know Johansson not a differencemaker as you just alluded to Darius is he really a differencemaker i don’t see it there’s nothing in his game that is elite to me that stands out when I say elite I’m not talking about uh statistic-wise i’m talking about the intangibles nothing really stands out when it comes to Johansson at least with like Keandre Miller not even Keandre Miller is a bad example let me use Carson Susi who I’m not a big fan of but you know when the Rangers brought him in we had higher hopes that he was going to be better a guy like Carson Susi at least you’re getting that big physical frame that 65 frame over 200 pounds and with Johansson you know as you just said a smaller left shot defenseman i know the statistics weren’t there but at least if he had something that would stand out that type of trait that maybe Mike Sullivan and David Quinn could work with him on and get the best out of him then I would be more open to it but when I look at Johansson there’s nothing that stands out to me so I’m just not um a fan of his and I would rather take the offer sheet compensation if it comes down to one or the other that’s where I would go with it
now again I do want to reiterate you know some of the things linked uh some of the reports that are linking Detroit to Keandre Miller are from actual insiders vince and of course Emily from ESPN Roger Hicks not necessarily an insider but it is possible we’re not going to hear about this until tomorrow right at this point so it is definitely possible maybe they’re mulling over a couple things and going “Hey do we actually want a defenseman who can come in and play in the NHL right away or do we want the offers sheet compensation?” Keep in mind too Detroit just added a couple pieces uh like a goalender finally and John Gibson right so they are trying to get into the playoffs but if they fall out of the playoffs that means they fall into the lottery and if you fall into the lottery next year you might get Gavin McKenna so if you want more you know first round picks like Detroit’s that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you’re the New York Rangers now keep in mind right now at this point in time the Rangers have $13 million in cap space if they were adding $1 million in Johansson not a bad thing right i I don’t think that’s a bad thing but again I just don’t know where he fits in on the left side right now it’s Susi uh on the top pairing there we know it’s going to be Gavricov susi would move down vaken is there right so if you’re adding another left shot defenseman he would be a good depth option but where does that leave you know Zack Jones like I mentioned it’s just odd to me i do want to get into one last thing and that is KeAre Miller’s projected cap hit and that is $7 million and I do want to say I got this from Scotia stat projections who’s been bang on on every single contract essentially so far except Aaron Eblads which of course he came in way below uh market value because he wanted to stay in Florida but looks like he could get like $6.5 to 7 million the Rangers first of all can’t afford that and obviously the Detroit Red Wings can so it’s going to be very interesting and if he signs for that much the compensation you know sorry to leave you hanging till you know right when the video ends essentially but the compensation for that would be a firstrounder and a third rounder which is great compensation for the New York Rangers so at the end of the day if there is no offer sheet on the table I think that trade makes sense because you know you’re not bringing back KA Miller at least you get a piece back that can play in the NHL and if the offer sheet is there and you can get that compensation you let Keandre Miller walk but any final thoughts on this whole situation Brett because I feel like another you know something else is going to drop at the time we’re recording this yeah final thoughts here Darius uh while Scotch has been spectacular like you said uh and when it comes to Eblad you know he just wants to go for that three Pete you know it took a few pennies uh less he’ll still be compensated very nicely in Florida but uh Keandre Miller that’s a big it’s a big cap hit you know it’s a bigger cap hit than Aaron Akblad a two-time Stanley Cup champion a guy playing on the first pair um you know it’s a big cap hit $7 million and like I said I just don’t see it a guy that’s been on the decline the last few years and I know he’s still young 25 years old but you know we’ve spoken about it Darius he’s ran his course here half a decade it’s been half a decade and still haven’t seen what we wanted to see but to give Kandre Miller his you know fair trial here give him some credit this is a guy that even in his worst year as a Ranger still a top four defenseman on the team and for most NHL teams you’re looking at a Keandre Miller as a top four defenseman this is a good player this isn’t a bad player it’s just a player that the Rangers need to move on from at this point um just hasn’t worked out especially these last few years we’ve only seen him get worse sad to see but makes sense for the Red Wings they got a lot of money to spend Darius and they have a lot of aging players as I said earlier in the video keandre Miller would be a nice piece for them he’ll play on their top four uh he’ll be a top four defenseman for the Red Wings and uh you know their general manager uh Steve Yaiserman um is looking to improve that blue line so you know why not do it if you have all the cap space in the world like they do and bring in a Keandre Miller and see what you can do with him so um and the last point is that the first uh the first round pick and the third round pick compensation it absolutely is great compensation because Chris Jury has basically made it known to everybody and their mom that he doesn’t want Ke Miller so you know you’re getting a first round pick third round pick not bad freeing up some cap space it’s a good It would be good for the Rangers and Chris Drury’s been all over the place uh this offseason one minute you know he’s doing something good the next minute he’s doing something bad and mindb boggling so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see until tomorrow when things actually become officially official so you know I’m kind of hot and cold on Drury right now something’s good some things bad this would be good for the Rangers
yeah we’ll see what category this one falls into but I do think it makes a lot of sense like you mentioned for the Detroit Red Wings they have the salary cap to make it work and for the New York Rangers we’ve been talking about the possibility of extending him for one year i don’t think that he or his camp wants that i don’t think Chris Jury wants this player anymore i don’t think Mike Sullivan wants this player on his team either and would he be a top four defenseman on the Rangers possibly but I watched a lot of games last year and I am sick and tired of watching him throw pizzas up the middle of the ice so uh they got to do something else but if Johansson is the only move there’s a lot left to beat Desire there has to be another move and obviously Will still hanging in the balance as well but uh we’ll get to that when obviously that that comes down and there’s going to be a lot more coming so we’re going to keep you updated here on the channel yes Brett go ahead last last final thought which is Darius don’t forget that our about our Twitter guys check out Twitter guys we got X going and also the live stream Wednesday is going to be popping absolutely so we’re going to be live like you just mentioned Wednesday right after free agency we’re going to be breaking down everything that happens with the Rangers because of course there’s going to be a couple moves what happens with Will Culie Kandre Miller I would assume would be gone at that point they’re signing Gavricov we’re going to break all of that down and check out the uh description down below cuz like Brett mentioned we are on X now so go check out our Twitter we’re going to have everything down there on uh on X as well so go check that out but we’re going to keep you updated for everything that’s going on here on the channel so let us know how you feel in the comments about everything that’s happening the Kandre Miller situation it’s it’s pretty crazy there’s there is a move on the way that’s for sure but if you haven’t yet hit that subscribe button so you can stay up to date with everything New York Rangers

  1. Zak Jones will rise up for another team which most ex-Rangers do. I'll say it over and over Dolan doesn't care about winning and Drury doesn't have the experience. You want cap space? Dump Igor, it's not like the Rangers haven't made asinine moves in the past……

  2. We win every 54 years. We have 19 more to go, so it doesn't matter what Drury does. The owner will be in the dirt. We can only hope we get a non-retarded owner that hires a gm that doesnt blame the coach over his own acquisitions. Drury given the GM job in 2021, four years and four coaches later, the first coach he fired is back coaching on the team. You can't make this shit up.

  3. This team is so hilarious, we get rid of kakko we get rid of Miller, but yet five players are still left on this team that had the little coup at Panarins house. Simply hilarious just unbelievable.

  4. Free agency hasn't even opened, and guys are already pulling in mega deals. Provorov just got 8.5 per, Gavrikov is going to get between 9 and 10. Miller might not be going anywhere

  5. Wow Drury is giving away Rangers for free…. damn…. Kreids = Free, Troubs = free, KM is looking like he is going away for free too. Just wow.. albert Johansson is hot garbage just like Vaakanien

  6. Miller is not worth giving a new deal to. No hitting, poke checker, turn over machine. Really declined after what looked like a promising future early on. Take the compensation

  7. I’ve been a drury supporter but getting rid of miller is crazy . Can’t replace the size , talent and at his relatively lower price with higher cap. Big mistake if they let him go

  8. Christmas has come early if Yzerman is dumb enough to offer sheet Miller. The Rangers will grab those draft picks for next year's projected to be stellar draft class, so fast Stevie Y will be left with nubs.

  9. After today, Miller will be staying… 8.5 for PROVOROV and 9.5 for DOBSON😂 Gavrikov will anchor the entire franchise with a contract the exact same situation as trouba
