MLB LIVE🔴 San Francisco Giants vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 5, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello baseball fans and welcome inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the San Francisco Giants going up against the Athletics. First pitch coming your way next. just about to get started. Our starting pitcher in this one, Mitch Spence. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound.
Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Ready to go now. And digging in for San Francisco, Mike Yremsky fouled off. He was late.
First pitch 706. Just missed. Left hand hitter waits. That one out to right. Rooker pulls it in and there’s one away. Now we take a peek at the Giants lineup. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year.
Yeah. And when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for error. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands, and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. Spence. He isn’t really known as a starting pitcher that’s going to get you deep into the start. It’s not that he’s not capable. He just hasn’t proven that he can do it. Here
in there at the knees. He’s got such great stuff. You just don’t know from start to start whether it’s a potential no hitter or it’s a guy that’s only going to give you three or four innings.
That one’s upstairs. Ball one. But for the most part with that kind of stuff, you expect him to get to the middle of the ball game. And that one is in the dirt. Two and two. What does he need to do in order to get deeper into the game? Well, I’d say it’s command of the secondary pitches because when you’re talking about turning over the order a second and third time, and guys are getting looks, you’ve got to be able to put a wrinkle on something, change speeds, and locate it enough so that they offer at it. Ultimately, you want them to swing and chase a pitch that teases the zone and ends outside the zone. But so far, he hasn’t been able to do that consistently.
And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Raphael De’s up to hit. First pitch just misses. Two outs. Base is empty. Just missed. That one sizzling on its way through to the outfield. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Batting fourth left fielder Elliot Ramos.
Here’s Elliot Ramos. Let’s go. And first offering is fouled off. He swings and drives one out to deep left field. That’s back there. And that one is out of here. his 14th of the year and they add a pair. It’s two nothing. Boog. His plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later. You can’t argue with those results. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrists to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. Jung-h stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. He’s given up a couple of runs, but the pitch count really not as high as you would think. Might be able to get through this one under 25 pitches.
Two outs. That’s in there. Strike one. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. Makes the play and it’s out. Number three. The Giants strike for a pair as you get another look at the two-run dinger. It’s now a two nothing ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here with my pal Singy and towing the slab here, Robbie Ray. Singy. He’s kind of a road warrior. Yeah,
I definitely say so. You know, some guys shrink a little bit on the road. They’re so used to just having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind them, but this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment. So, when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes, you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark. So, a man at first now, the number two hitter, Tyler Soderstrom. That’s off the inside corner and that is ball one. [Music] Right through there for a strike. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back.
Clark gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Struck him out looking with the off speed stuff. Well, he froze him with the change up right there. I think he was so geared up for fast once he recognized that it was off speed,
he just wasn’t able to make an adjustment. So, a really good strike out and pitcher just won the battle.
Brent Rooker batting with one down takes the strike. Hey, now let’s go. Next offering is fouled back. Man at first, one away. [Music] Strike three and that’s two in a row. Well, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single. Back-to-back strikeouts. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out.
Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. Good power. Not great. Runner takes off. Strike in there.
Throw to second. Great jump. And that is a stolen base. It wasn’t even close. swing and a miss. And that one missed by a ton.
Good pitch right there. Tied him up on the hands. If I’m out there on the bump, I’m going right back in there. And one and two. Two outs and one in scoring position. inside. Almost got him. Let’s go.
Fly ball down the line. Yustinsky on the move. Brings it in. And that is that. The A’s strand one. They trail things here. Two nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now Dominic Smith. Dominic Smith. Come on. Spence back to work. Check swing and he went at strike one. Number one and that one fouled off. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. And that one is off the wall. safe at second with a leadoff double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game,
but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Now it’s the second baseman, Tyler Fitzgerald. Right through there for a strike. No outs. Runner on second.
Let’s go. And it’s through for a hit. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners. Nobody out. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling when you can turn a ball around at 107 off the bat. It’s going to make you feel really good inside. If he elevates that a little bit more, it’s definitely out of here. Here’s the third baseman, Brett Wisley. That misses ball one. out into left center for a line drive base hit. Runner from third comes across. It’s an RBI single and they lead by three.
Comes through with the RBI. Really good swing right there. You got a pitch that he knew he could handle. allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So runners at the corners, nobody out. And now Andrew Kizner and that misses one and0. Well, he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. That one felt good. And they add to the lead. It’s 6 nothing. The wind didn’t hurt the chances of that ball getting out of here. That’s for sure. That’s exactly the pitch he was looking for. crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark. Manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Mitch Spence won’t go any further tonight and this is one he’d like to forget. back with a new arm after this. Now pitching.
So, a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s number 50.
And he’s had three days off since he pitched last. So, expect him to be totally rested. I’m sure he’s itching for this opportunity right now. Back to the top of the lineup. Here comes Mike Estreky to the plate and first offering is fouled off. Four runs already in the frame here in the top of the second. And he swings and lifts one to deep center field. Gone. They do it again. Back-to- back homers. His ninth homer of the year. It’s 7 nothing. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now. Boo. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other. And the collective confidence just continues to grow. He swings and fouls one off. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] This one in the air right field. Rooker sizes this one up and there’s one away. [Applause] Now batting designated hitter Raphael Demers. Now Singled scored his first time. in for a strike and it’s all and one [Applause] ball on there.
Time to look at our umpiring crew in this one. Kenny Jansen behind the plate.
Yeah, and expect a little inconsistency on the corners. He doesn’t make any wild calls, but he does give and take there a little bit. So, he doesn’t have the easiest strike zone to figure out, especially as the game goes on when you’re expecting it to become more consistent. Still only one out here in the inning. Next offering way off the plate [Music] and that one is inside. Really good take especially with two strikes outside and that is ball four. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance.
Man at first with one gone and next will be the cleanup hitter Elliot Ramos. He’s already homered here in this one. That one in there across the letters. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike. No balls, two strikes. Devils at first. One gone. Next offering is downstairs. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive. [Applause] On the ground to second, might be two. They get one
onto first. Double play and that’s the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 7 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and we’re back. Now it’s the shortstop Maxy.
Short stop, Max. Clearly down in this ball game and you can’t look at the deficit and try to get it all back in one swing. It’s got to come one at bat at a time and even shrink it down smaller pitch to pitch. Make that guy on the mound work to get you out.
This is one of those times when you want to be aggressive. Go ahead and pitch to contact. Let the defense work behind you. You’ve got a nice comfortable lead. Don’t try to be too fine. Next pitch is outside. [Applause] Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on.
Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. And now here’s the A’s catcher. Austin wins. First pitch misses. Now one missed, one out. Base is empty. Next offering in there for a strike. Two and one now. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s back there up against the wall and brings it in. Batting seventh designated hitter, Luis. So, he went on a journey for that one. One of the more impressive catches we’ve seen lately, Chris, as we pull up the Stackcast data on it.
Yeah, he was believing the whole way, man. 110 ft on the dot. So, that was a tough play. And we saw how difficult it was with our own eyes. And the numbers really back it up. That one fouled off. [Music] Two down. Nobody on.
Just missed.
Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, that’s a good take by him.
The 1-1 is fouled off. And that’s outside. [Applause] Still two and two after the foul ball. That’s ripped base hit and that extends the inning. Batting eight, left fielder. And stepping in,
the rookie left fielder [Applause] and first offering is fouled off. Go, baby. Let’s go.
That’s a little bit low. One and strike two.
He has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that’s down, that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. And there’s a ball. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Top half of the third inning. Here’s the center fielder. Jung Lee Lee fouled off left side. Well, Boo, here’s a little background info on Jung Hulie. He hit for the highest batting average in KBO history, which included a ton of doubles. Plus, he took home five gold gloves. He’s a player that helps the team with his bat and defensively. [Music] That’s off the mark. Two and one. That one catches the corner for a strike. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Has room and he makes the catch. Now batting the first baseman, Dominic Smith. Dom Smith stands in. A double and a run scored his first time up. And that one sliced foul. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Struck him out looking. Two down, base is empty. And up next for the Giants, Tyler Fitzgerald. One for one with a single so far. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Fitzgerald, 27 years old, and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2019. And that’s off the inside edge. One ball, one strike. and downstairs. Two balls, one strike. Next offering misses and that’s ball three. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. That’s a walk. Went with another change up, but missed the spot. One of the things about that two-out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Wisely batting for the second time. And that’s strike one. Move to first. Be safe. Check swing called strike.
Fitzgerald off the first with two away. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two outs. That one outside now. One and two. Swing and a miss and a change up in the dirt. Wins down to first with it in time. So the drop third strike doesn’t hurt him and that’s that. So, the Giants leave one, but they’re still in control. It’s 7 nothing. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. The batter now, Max.
Max Schuman [Applause] swinging a ground ball up the middle. And that one finds its way through. So now back to the top of the order. Waste no time there. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. Denzel Clark will hit next. One for one. He let off the bottom of the first with a single. Popped in the air left field. Ramos makes the grab. One away. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left.
So up next, Tyler Soderstrom struck out looking his first time. Outside low, ball one. Step off throw to first
and he dives back in safely. Here goes the runner. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] Gets the call. One and two. And a slider misses down and away. And they’ll do it again.
I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Got him swinging for the strike out and the runner stays where he is. Oh, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. They tried to check the swing. Just couldn’t do it. Runner on the go. Pitch in for a strike. Throw to second. That steel right there is wanting to take advantage of having a really good hitter at the plate. Now they’ve got a much better shot at bringing home a two-out RBI. Swing and a miss. Oh, and two now. Another 02 count right here. pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that as we go to the top of the fourth. Now it’s the Giants catcher Andrew Ker. It really feels like we might be running out of time before a rain delay is called. This rain is not letting up. Yeah. And if we do get a delay, the unfortunate thing is the clock’s going to start ticking on these pitchers and they won’t be able to keep their arms warm forever if it’s a long break and going to have to exit this game a little early.
Line drive. That’s a hit. and the leadoff man aboard. Back to the leadoff spot in the Giants lineup. Mike Estreky up here. He’s already homered in this game.
Edge of the zone for a strike. 0 and one. Let’s get the easy. Let’s go. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. Typically that high fast ball if it’s close to the top of the strike zone a hitter if he’s prepared for it can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to and that’s why you see the swing and miss.
Adamus up to the plate for the third time as he looks at one down low. Foul ball there. Kner the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go in the air to left center on the move to the gap. Nabs it and there’s two down. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down.
Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. And it’s Raphael Devers in the box. And a strike to Debors. Swing and a miss. 0 and two. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. [Music] The 02. One, two in the dirt. Blocked. Honest. It’s a strikeout. One left for San Francisco and they hold a seven nothing lead. Bottom of the fourth and here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts.
Number 16. First pitch not close. You know, these A’s just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. And that one misses up and in. Ball two. [Applause] Just missed. Next offering is in for a strike.
Full count, fans. Another. And that’s three straight strikeouts.
Quite the start to this game on the mound. Looking very dangerous to these hitters. Seven punch outs already. So, this lineup hasn’t had much success trying to figure them out. I’m impressed with what we’re seeing here. Hit in the air right field. Yensky makes the grab. Two down. Up next for the A’s.
Two out. Space is empty. And here’s the catcher. Austin wins. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. Check. Swing. Went around. That’s strike one. Just missed. One ball.
Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. On the corner for a strike. Next pitch misses and the count is two and two.
Two strikes, stays alive. Two down to swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. A’s go quickly and quietly there. Not going their way. It’s 7 nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now the left fielder, Elliot Ramos. There’s the strike.
All these Giants putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really want
and he can’t come up with it. Still manages a throw. It was never going to be easy after the misplay. Pretty much gifted a lead off base runner right there. And as an offense, this is where you really want to take advantage. Apply some pressure this inning. Make that error hurt. Man at first, nobody out. Jung Hu Lee getting ready to hit. Go for two in this one. And the first offering is not close. [Music] That’s a strike across the top of the zone. 1-1 that misses the zone and a count two and one.
One strike. Just missed. And ball four, two aboard. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Maybe he had to challenge the guy with the fast. Dominic Smith.
Now it’s Dominic Smith. One for two. [Music] And the first pitch misses for ball one. Ramos over at second. Lee on at first with nobody out. Pitch misses and now two and0. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. [Music] [Applause] That pitch in for a strike. Two and two. First and second here. No outs. The other way. Offbalance feed. Here’s one relay to first double play.
They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaders. They make tough plays look simple.
So, two down now. And here is Tyler Fitzgerald. Hard hit to third. Over to first. Out. And the inning is over. So no runs on no hits, one error and a runner left. Home half of the fifth. Coming up, it’s the Giants 7 and the A’s nothing. And we’re back. John Shia with my buddy Chris Singleton. It’s set to get us started. Bottom five, Luis Rias. Let’s go. Green to go, baby. Let’s go. Ray back to work on the ground to third, zips it across and the lead off hitter retired in the paint.
Batting left fielder Kobe Thomas. Here’s the left fielder swinging a miss. It’s 0 and one.
The guy’s going this good. He’s retired seven in a row. You got to step out of the box. Fake bunt. Do something to break it up.
Just missed.
The Giants up big in this one. Last half of inning number five. Ground ball right side, dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw. He’s in safely. And now there’s a runner at first.
Now that is second baseman, Max Schuman. Runner on at first with one gone. Here’s the second baseman, Max Schuman. And he’s already singled in this game. [Applause] Pitch is in there and that is strike one. [Music] That one missing inside. Tapped softly on the ground. Tags a runner for one. And it’s a double play to end the inning. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six and digging in for San Francisco. Brett Wisley the pitch check swing and he went 01. There’s the strike. The Athletics have some bullpen action. JP Sears, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Lopez also getting ready. [Music] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Oh, missed a mistake right there. That one way outside. Going to count one and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike out. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time
a little anxious. Here’s Andrew Kizner and first offering is fouled off. One down, base is empty towards first and it goes just foul. Foul ball still 0 and two. One, two. That one missed. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out.
Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count. Two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone.
Mikey, the second MLB YZ steps in. First pitch and he just misses.
One ball, no strike. And that one clips the corner. That’s too low. And it’s two and one. swing and a miss
as he was out front that time.
Two strike. Foul ball. Another two two upcoming. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. That one the other way. It
safe at first and an infield single keeps the inning going
with two outs. You just want to find a way to keep the line moving for the next guy. So an infield single right there does the job. Nicely done. just putting it in play and getting down to first to keep this inning alive. You never know what might come next as a result.
Will Adam stands in 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout. There’s the strike of the knees. [Music] Here’s the pitch to Adamus. The shorts stop takes a ball.
Yensky leads off first with two down to the inning. [Music] That one down the line. Takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Bottom of the sixth inning. Now here’s the lead off hitter for the A’s. Denzel Clark Denzel Clark [Applause] swing and a popup and it’s caught for the out. Up next for the A’s, third baseman Tyler. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Ramos pulls it down and there’s two gone. Now batting the right fielder, Brent Rooker.
Two down, base is empty. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level.
First offering misses badly for ball one. Definitely a frustrating day for the offense, but when they look at it, this guy’s had his best stuff. Been painting the corners, working on the edges, and changing speeds. Just a difficult one. You tip your cap. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and that keeps the inning going. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down.
And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and one and ball one.
Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Two outs. Swinging a foul straight back. And there’s a ball. The A’s with a lot of ground to make up here in the bottom of the six. And Kenny Jansen punches him out. That’s a strikeout. The A’s strand one. They continue to trail 7 nothing. Now pitching for the
welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. JP Sears. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is.
Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging it. Now it’s De at the plate
for the Giants. The designated hitter, Raphael Des. misses inside and that’s ball one out towards right center. That’s well struck. That one’s back. Bounces off the wall as he makes the grab. Man, dude, I love watching an outfielder take on the row and make that play. And it’s a lot easier to watch from up here because that can be painful in the end. You know, the wall’s coming up on you quickly. So, you have to maintain concentration in able to make that catch and hold on to it after contact. Ramos the batter now as he holds up his swing for ball one in the air left side [Applause] and makes the grab. Two away now. Now batting center fielder Jung Hul Lee Jung Hul Lee the next Giant to hit. Chris, baseball today, so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers, but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out.
Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits
and misses inside. When you look at the elite teams in the game right now, there is going to be the slug, no question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get
whips it across and that is the inning. Offense held a check there. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Giants seven and the A’s nothing. This game’s a bit of a blowout. Sing, let’s talk about something random. Let’s do it.
All right, Symbol Park Entertainment. You got a favorite mascot race?
Yeah, I love what they do in DC with the former presidents.
Somebody always gets tackled. They always get hurt.
I know. And it’s just crazy. Imagine running around in those big bulky suits and somebody’s always going to go down
and a swing and a miss there. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. Here’s a one-two.
Do you remember when Tim Kirkin ran in the sausage race in Milwaukee?
No, I didn’t see that one. Yeah. Yeah, they used one of the kidsiz ones.
You know, this isn’t exactly a mascot race, but I love what they do in Atlanta with the freeze. That’s tough. You see it? Well, I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things that when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. When a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity, wins. The next to hit takes outside in there for a strike at the top of the zone. I wanted to race the freeze with one point. I don’t think my hamstrings could hold up for it now.
I feel like five years ago you could have handled the freeze. It would have been fun. And I would bait you into it and try and get you to train to race the freeze and it just never materialized.
Yeah, I would I appreciate that that you had enough confidence in me that I could beat a guy who looks like he was going to the Olympic trials at some point or another. But
yeah, it’s always a great thing to watch there at Truest Park.
Would you have worn one of those bobsled outfits like the freeze? Nah, that would have been too a little too revealing for me at this age.
I feel you. [Music] In the box now. No balls in a strike. [Music] One-1.
This pitcher has done a good job of disrupting the hitter’s timing with a mix of pitches and changing speeds. You want to keep that front foot inconsistent for the batter. Their swings are hesitant. And that’s a Smith out takes it himself. The A’s go quietly. And welcome back to the ballpark. We’re in the top of the eighth and digging in for San Francisco, Dominic Smith. Let’s go to baby. Sears back to work.
Just missed. [Music] Highf fly ball out towards left center. [Music] One away. [Applause] Now batting second base Tyler.
And up next for San Francisco, Tyler Fitzgerald. And that is in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the eighth. Let’s go. That one lifted to left, sizing this one up, makes the catch, and there’s two away. Now batting third baseman Brett Wisley. Two outs. Base is empty. And up next for the Giants, Brett Wisley. And that one upstairs. Ball one. [Music] And that misses off the outside edge. Two balls. No strike. That one pushed foul [Music] base knock center field and that keeps the inning alive. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. always feel good.
Andrew Kizner digs in now. And that’s in for a strike. [Applause] Wisely off of first with two away. In there at the knees and the count is 0 and two. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. [Applause] Two outs. Battling here as he fouls it away. And now one and two. Hey, you got this. Spoils a two strike pitch. And he’ll see another. That one just misses. Two balls, two strikes. The count was a good pitch there.
Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, hit a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Got him. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. now pitching for
back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Walker
coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Now the left fielder
leading off for the A’s left fielder Kobe Thomas. And that is in for a strike. Going one. Signs of movement in the Giants bullpen. Hayden Birdsaw up and loosening in the pen. Let’s go. Right side. Fitzgerald fires over to first. One gone to the bottom of the eighth.
That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit. Hit the ball on the ground. Kill some worms while you’re at it.
Max Schuman now at the plate. swing and a miss. Strike one.
No balls. One strike. Strike two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three.
Wow. Just great bite to that slider. Broke hard out of the zone and he just couldn’t hold up the swing. You know, as a hitter, that pitch is really hard to take and there’s just not much you can do with it. You know that, but you don’t want to get rung up by the umpire. Hammered down the right side but foul. [Music] That one misses at one and one. [Applause] and fires in a fast ball at 95. Definitely not a pitch location you’re expecting up there as a hitter. When you know the guy’s got a good sinker ball. If he can get in that location, boy, you’ve got to look top to bottom and that’s going to make it very difficult to hit.
That one just misses. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. This one lifted in the air left field. Ramos coming on. Brings it in and that’s the inning. And we’re back. All set to start the ninth in this one. Now it’s the Giants leadoff hitter Mike Ystreky. [Applause] The pitch. This one chopped to first. Curts steps on first for the out.
Now batting shorts stop. Willie Adamus. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Willie Adamus 0 for four. couple of flyyous. He’s also grounded out and struck out. [Applause] Swing and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. Man aboard. And here is De’s [Applause] first pitch. Doesn’t find the zone [Applause] and that is out of play. instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended. Tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in and it’s fouled away. Adamus leads off first with one away upstairs and the count now even up.
Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. [Applause] They all pitch gets a piece and stays alive.
The Giants up big in this one here in the top of the ninth and ball four to a board. Oh, very close with the location right there. It’s just tough to get rewarded on the call with pitches near the top of the strike zone.
First and second, one out. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Elliot Ramos. And the pitch is outside. Ball one.
One ball,
one out. Runners at first and second. There’s the strike. [Applause] [Applause] Ball two. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] in the air on the infield
and the infield fly is called [Applause] now batting the center fielder Jung Hu Lee.
Junghu Lee the next Giant to hit. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power [Applause] and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Just missed. [Applause] ball outside.
It’s a big opportunity right here, but I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. Fouls one off. Two and two. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another. [Applause] Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] And that’s down and away. [Applause] Two on, two outs. In the air, left field, down the line, makes the grab and that is that [Applause] Bottom nine now the third base Tyler Sodro Tyler Sodrom [Applause] and the pitch a little bit low. Ball one. Walker a righty that throws with power. He features a sinker, a slider and he works in a fourseamer. [Applause] Late swing fouled to the left. The 1-1 is fouled off. [Applause] Next pitch misses way outside. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] And that one missing low. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Well, he’s having a tough time getting to pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches. Still able to make some type of contact [Applause] in the air right field. Yensky under it. Makes the catch for the out. Now batting the right fielder.
Now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker. One for three. [Applause] Swinging a foul. Pushed off to the right and that will get out of play [Applause] on the ground. The A’s down to their final out. Good armside run and sink on that pitch right there. Got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Smoke [Applause] to right center. And this one’s going to go out of here. [Applause] And they’re on the scoreboard. It’s 71. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, B. We knew it wasn’t coming back. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. [Applause] And the batter will be the shortstop. Maxy 0 for three in this one. First pitch misses. Slider [Applause] right there.
One ball, one strike. [Applause] Two down. Nobody on. Grounder off the pitcher. Whips it to first on the run. That’s the ball game. Sometimes road trips can be tough. You’re away from your family, but when you can win, silence that opposing crowd, it makes things just a little bit better. Makes the road trip just a little bit shorter.
And a 71 finish in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shabi saying so long.
