MLB LIVE🔴 San Francisco Giants vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 5, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the San Francisco Giants going up against the Athletics. First pitch coming at you right after the break. just about ready to go. And on the mound for the A’s in this one, Mitch Spence. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound.
Well, I’ll say this, every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. [Applause] Mike Yensky leading things off and takes a strike. [Applause] foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Music] Swings through and for the K. Pulled the string on the change up. Second short stop.
Will Thomas stands in. That one misses. One and0. Here’s the pitch to Adamus lined and that’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Batting third, first baseman Raphael Devers.
Man aboard and here is Devers. That missed by a lot and it’s one and0. Adamus the base runner at first with one out. Fought off foul [Applause] and a swinging miss. It’s amazing to look up and see 88 mph on that change off. Back in the day, that was a pretty good fast ball, but with high velocities these days, that speed differential is right where it needs to be. 22. This one in the dirt [Music] and it goes just foul. That one missing inside. swings and misses. Struck him out. And now it’s Wilmer Flores. That one’s in there. 0 and one. [Applause] Come on, Mitch. In the air, right field. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. So, the Giants leave one and the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here with my pal Singi, the right-hander with a good curveball, Landon RP. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him.
Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this, he’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Denzel Clark leading things off and takes a strike. The wine and the pitch that misses the zone and the count is one and one. swinging a ground ball up the middle, sends it to first. One up, one down. And time now to check out the A’s lineup.
A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Nick Curts. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Tyler Soderstroke stands in now, looks at that one inside rude. He isn’t really known as a starting pitcher that’s going to get you deep into the start. It’s not that he’s not capable, he just hasn’t proven that he can do it yet. That’s a strike
and the count one and one.
He’s got such great stuff. You just don’t know from start to start whether it’s a potential no hitter or it’s a guy that’s only going to give you three or four innings.
Swing and a chopper out to short. Adamus the throw to first
here tonight. An efficient start to the home first. Two away.
Betting third. Right fielder Brent Rooker.
Two out space is empty. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. Take it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level.
Swings and blast low deep to left center. High bounce over the fence for an automatic double.
But for the most part with that kind of stuff, you expect him to get to the middle of the ball game. And what about analytics? Because one of the ways it seems like they’ve contributed to the trend is it’s not just about are you capable of getting deep that now focusing on the numbers. Maybe the matchup is better with a different guy as the game goes on. Next to hit Nick Curts base hit rounds third headed to the plate. The throw in save and it’s one- nothing. Mission accomplished there as he picks up the RBI to give him the lead. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And the batter will be the shortstop, Maxy swinging a foul straight back. Only a handful of pitchers can go through an order three times, maybe even four times. And the analytics have contributed to that trend, but I think there are some players given an opportunity may be able to show that they can be a third or fourth. Well, got to pause on that thought as that’ll do it for the inning. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now one- nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. And we’re back. Top of the second. Here’s the center fielder, Jung Lee. Spence back to work. Always fun to watch Lee go to work at the dish. Boo. He’s just a pure hitter and a good athlete. Someone referred to him as a slow drip guy because the more you watch him, the more you like it. And a 1-1. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. And that skips in the dirt. [Applause] Next pitch just misses and that’s ball three. That one misses. So a leadoff walking six left fielder Luis Matoss. Luis Mtos the next Giant to hit right through there for a strike. [Applause] gets a piece and it stays 0 and2. Just misses with that one.
Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch.
Fights that one away. Still one and two. breaking ball misses down and away. Still just the second batter of the inning and on the mound he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. Two two and he couldn’t hold back. He’s run up on strikes. Now the catcher up to hit Patrick Bailey. in for a strike. The one swung on, belted. Clark giving chase and it hops over the wall for an automatic double. Off the bat, I thought they were going to score their first run of the game. And that feels like a tough break. But look at the bright side. Really good contact at the plate. And now they’re working with not just one, but two runners in scoring position. So they’d love another base hit right here. So two in scoring position with one out. And next is the designated hitter, Tyler Fitzgerald. [Applause] line drive. Base hit. One runs in. Throw comes in and holds a runner at third. They’re at the corners now with still only one away. Well, he comes through clutch with the RBI single. That was big. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws.
Runners in the corners here. One away. Brett Wisley the next Giant to hit and that’s fouled off. Bailey on third. Fitzgerald over at first with one away. Next offering is in for a strike. Big pitch right here. He’s going to try to make a pitch. It’s going to produce a strike out or a ground ball double play. [Applause] And that’s the swing. It’s a strike out. Here comes Mike Ystreky to the plate.
How many times have we seen an early at bat change the course of a game? It happens every night in baseball. And maybe it happens again here. Not close and it deflects away. [Applause] Fitzgerald up to second. Runner at third hold. So both runners are now in scoring position. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. out. Two on, two outs. Base hit, one run is in. Fires to the plate. Safe at home. And the runner scores from second and they lead by two. Oh, a huge two RBI swing at the bat right there. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. Two outs, runner on first. And up next for the Giants, Willie Adamus. One for one with a single so far.
Pitch misses. Ball one. [Applause] swing and a miss. And that one missed by a ton. Man, that was pretty gross right there. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Already three runs across in the frame here in the top of the second. He had a swing and a miss at the slider in the dirt. Throw to first in time. The two-3 strikeout ends the inning. Three runs on three hits, no errors and a runner left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Giants three and the A’s won and welcome back to the ballpark. And now the catcher comes up to him. Austin wins. wins. Swain and a miss and it’s 0 and one. Sometimes a hitter will go up there and guess. And it’s not just pulling something out of the sky, but expecting because of tendencies a certain pitch in a certain location. He just guessed wrong. In time to Debor, that’s one out in the bottom of the second. Batting seventh designated hitter. Here’s Louis. first pitch misses.
One ball,
one out, base is empty. And a curve misses outside. Ball two. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here.
And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. 2-2 now. And that just misses. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. [Music] Got him looking now. Two away.
Man, he had a stanky leg on that one right there. That curve ball just locked him up.
Two down, base is empty. and stepping in the rookie left fielder. Swinging a ground ball and that’s just fouled. Two down, nobody on that will close rule the ball. And it’s one and one.
Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone.
Two outs. Ball two-1. In for a strike and the count is two and two. That one back up the middle and it gets through and that keeps the inning alive. Batting ninth, second base.
Now it’s the second base, Max Schum. [Applause] [Applause] moved to first and he’s back in there. Next offering is in for a strike. Foul ball on the ground to short. Adamus, they get the force. Third out. The A’s strand one and it remains a 3-1 ball game. On to the third inning. Here’s Raphael De Raphael.
De measures 6 feet even 28 years old and they traded for him earlier this year. That clips the corner. Well, these Giants do a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. Swinging a miss that one in the dirt on first. Got him. One away on the strike out. Now batting
Wilmer Flores, the next Giant to hit. And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. Though Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. That one fouled off. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. out to short. The throw to first and they got him. Now batting the center fielder Jung Hu Lee and digging in for San Francisco. Jung Hu Lee. He reached out a walk his first time. [Music] Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Ball one. Action in the pen down there. Number 50 up and throwing. Fly ball center field. Clark. He makes the grab and that is that. set for the bottom of the third. Here’s a speed threat. Denzel Clark,
center fielder Denzel Clark. Now a drag bun third base side and foul ball. 1-1. [Applause] [Music] Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass.
So digging in. Tyler Soderstrom grounded out to short in his first trip. Pickoff throw. Clark back on a dive. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first. thinking about taking second. Catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting. Boot, that’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Music] That’s a
in the dirt.
One ball.
Not in time. He’s safe. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, that’s part of the risk when you throw a breaking ball in the dirt. Even as good as catchers are these days at blocking pitches, that one just got away enough. And that takes the double play opportunity away for now. [Music] 2-1.
Squirts away a little bit. You got this on the inside corner for called strike three. Up next,
Brent Rooker now at the plate. Doubled in his first debut.
Brent Rooker. Runner takes off for third. Pitch misses.
Throw to third. Save. That wasn’t close. Wow. That’s a pretty elite throwing arm right there from the catcher spot. Pretty daring for him to try to steal third right there, but he gets the bag. Maybe the element of surprise was what came in because he’s not used to guys running on him. And right there, stealing third base probably caught him off guard a little bit. Pitch misses there and a count two and one.
Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake and that is downstairs. Three and one now. Good pitchers make pitches in big situations. And right here with a middle of the order hitter off, runner in scoring position, he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike.
And that’s a swing according to umpire Mike Filmore. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position and two strikes. Just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. Curts batting for the second time. And that’s strike one.
Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. To the right side. A dive. Nice stop. What a play to end the inning. That was a great job of doing the math. He had the perfect angle. Diving stop completes the play and that ends the inning. Welcome back. And now on the mound to start the fourth, number 50.
Well, at this point in the ball game, we’re talking about middle innings. and a little length out of this arm
coming out of the bullpen. We’ll see just how many outs he’s able to give his skipper. Mtos stands in now and watches strike one. Ball one. outside with a breaking ball [Applause] and it remains two and two. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. You’re a little late. Opposite field not ripped on a line. Nice grab on the run. One away. Wow. He looked like he was running before the ball was hit. Didn’t have much time as that was a hard hit liner, but a nice job of covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time. So up next, Patrick Bailey, one for one with a double and a run scored. First pitch and he just misses.
Was good pitch there.
No strike.
Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And now this one’s a rocket to right way back there. Gone. He’ll circle the bases. His second of the year and they add to the lead. It’s 4-1. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I could feel that swing from the booth. Just an excellent swing all the way around. And it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention. Got a pitch to drive. Short to the baseball. Squared it up and the back spin carried it out of here. Tyler Fitzgerald, the next Giant to hit, singled and drove in a run his first time through.
And that one clips the corner. [Applause] Pop foul out of play off to the right. [Applause] And that’s off the inside edge into count one and two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. One down. Base is empty upstairs. That one misses and it’s three and two count.
One out. Base is empty and a run in. Top half of inning number four. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. Now batting second base the next Giant to hit. His first at bat was a strikeout. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. Two out. Space is empty. [Applause] Highf fly ball down the left field line on his way over and puts the squeeze on that one. And that is that. Ah, when the Giants go deep, it’s bye-bye baby. It’s now a 4-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. And now the short stop, Max.
Short stop, Max. There’s the strike. You know, these athletics showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Into the outfield base hit, man aboard on the leadoff single.
I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. keep that leadoff man off first base. And now here’s the A’s catcher. Austin wins 0 for one so far and delivers outside.
You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Keep the inning alive. up the middle. Wisely glove flip to second and they get him easily at first. It’s a double play. Really nice double play turn right there. And it all started with that sweet glove flip on the feed to second. You know, these middle infielders, they spend a lot of time honing that glove work. So, it just becomes like second nature. I think you also have to have a really good glove that’s broken in that’s not too large so that you can have a feel for that baseball and be able to flip it like you’re bare-handed. Sliced hard but fouled. Two down to he swings and fouls one off. and ball one. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Swing and a miss. Curve ball in the dirt. Bailey down to first with it. That completes the strikeout and that’ll do it. and welcome back to the ballpark. Mikey up here and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. All these Giants really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see him go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished
on the ground right side and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth.
That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it.
Now, it’s the short stop. Willia Damus one for two and that one is downstairs and that is ball one. That one missed and another ball that’s in for a strike at 95 and the count is three and one. [Applause] swinging a foul out of play. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the fifth. Come on. That one the other way. Gloves it on the dive from his knees. The throw and very nicely done for the out. But he looks so comfortable making that play. D comes up with it and then from one knee like he’s just playing catch with his kid. Nice throw across the diamond at first. Des now 0 for two in this one. And the first pitch misses for ball one and that one missing low. Struggled a little bit in this one. couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter’s count at 2 and 0. Next offering is downstairs. Fast ball for a strike. Thought the green light might be on right there, but maybe not. If you’re looking to swing in that cow, that’s the pitch you want. Hard on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Nothing doing for the offense that time. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Giants four and the A’s won. Number eight will hit next.
Leading off for the Athletics, left fielder Kobe Thomas. Baby, bring it home. RP back to work. Hard ground ball. Solo runner aboard to start the inning. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time, good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Next up for the A’s, Max Schuman. He’s 0 for one. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one.
You know, these A’s just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. Just one extra base hit for him. So, they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. That clips the corner. Ruer at first with no outs here. That one just misses.
That was pretty close on the inside. And obviously he’s not too happy with the call out there on the mound as he lets the umpire hear it a little bit. This is where you can’t let that frustration compound itself though. You got to let it out and move on. Tap softly third base side. A swinging bunt. Now a jump throw and it beats him. What a play. Up next for the A’s center fielder Denzel Clark.
So the lineup flips over and stepping in is the speedy Denzel Clark.
We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. [Music] out to short. Adamus tosses across to first. He’s out. Now batting third baseman Tyler Soderstrom.
And now Tyler Soderstrom. Pitch misses and it’s one and0. Two outs and one in scoring position. down on strikes looking for the second straight plate appearance. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Five innings complete. It’s the Giants four and the A’s won. And we’re back. All set for the start of the inning. Down to third base. Wilmer Flores. Come on. Edge of the zone for a strike. 0 and one. [Music] Liner snacked at first. That at bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn’t feel like it. He hit the ball hard, but it doesn’t always work out in your favor. Sometimes a defender is there to make a play.
And now the center fielder, Jung Hu Lee. Lee goes 6’1, 26 years old, and he’s a native of South Korea. That misses one and0. Fouled off left side. I want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the goodo. And a base hit into right center field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. [Music] Now batting left fielder Luis
Luis Mtos the next Giant to hit. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One ball, no strikes. Fast ball for a strike. That’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike, with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground. And you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play
in there for a strike at the top of the zone. A one two count. All he’s seen as fast balls. You’ve got to expect something off speed. Stay back. [Applause] Maybe a two ball. Five, four, three. Double play and the inning is over. No runs, one hit, no errors and no one left. Part of the order 345 coming up. It’s the Giants four and the A’s won. [Applause] Well, we go bottom six. And now the right fielder Brent Rooker.
Right fielder Brent Rooker. the pitch. And that one misses up and in. Ball one. [Music] Boo. That hook’s looking pretty sharp today. Just a solid pitching performance so far. And I really think it’s because of that curve. Ground ball up the middle. Ajamus gets it to first. Leadoff man retired in the six.
Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Nick Curts up next for the A’s on the ground right side and it goes just fouled. One down, base is empty. Pitch in the dirt and it’s a ball and a strike. And that one is inside. The Giants leading by three here in the bottom of the sixth. Next offering way off the plate.
Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. And that one is in for a strike.
Full count. Got him looking. That’s a strike out now. Batty.
Two outs. Base is empty. Maxy
up next for the A’s. Come on. And that’s in the dirt. swings and misses and the count one at one.
It really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there.
And that will end the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. We’re through six full. It’s the Giants four and the A’s won. Now pitching new arm out of the bullpen. JP Sears
just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. [Applause] And here’s the catcher, Patrick Bailey. He’s already home in this game. And that’s him for a strike.
And it’s all in one. And strike two. O2 ball. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go.
Bows it back with two strikes. The one two. Goes down looking. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter. And I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while.
You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. The other way. Kurts takes it himself and a couple of quick outs. Now batting second baseman Brett Wisley. Two down, base is empty. Brett Wisley the next to hit. And that’s through there for a strike. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Jacob Lopez, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Sterner, the right-hander, loosening up as well. There’s the strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. That misses. Now, one and two. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Yeah, that’s too high. Let’s go, baby. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. And it’s a one, two, three inning. Offense held in check there. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Giants four and the A’s won. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Spencer Vivven.
And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. And now it’s going to be Austin
W. Athletics catcher Austin wins. There’s the strike. It’s been tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. Go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. Let’s go. Three to go, baby. Let’s go. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. And now here is Luis Urias. Swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can’t forget it. It’s his eighth home run of the year. It’s 4-3. They needed that one, Singy. Indeed they did. They’ve been fighting to get back into this game. And just like that, they’re back in it. You see how he stays square to the plate. He takes a breaking ball that’s away, gets around it, gets it up in the air, and hits a long hard home run. Not exactly the way that you teach it in the cave, but you’ll take the result. Now the left fielder, he’s two for two. [Applause] out to short. Adamus fires over to first and one away in the bottom of the seventh. Oh, we talked about how the ball is coming out of the pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive.
Next up for the A’s, Max Schuman. [Music] [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Applause] Looking to get the tying run on base. That one finds the zone. That’s strike two. [Applause] One, two. [Applause] He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Makes a nice grab at a full sprint. And there’s two away. That’s a really nice play. ranging back into the outfield for that catch. We all know those can be a little tricky, especially if the wind’s swirling around out there.
Here’s the center fielder, Denzel Clark. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. That’s back there onto the track and he makes the catch, but not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. It’s now a 43 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. We’re in the top of the eighth now. Mike Ystreky Sears back to work
up and in. And that’s ball one. Activity in the bullpen. Jacob Lopez up and loosening in the pen. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one.
Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball on the ground. Muny whips it to first on the run and they get the out.
I love how guys at this level are able to slow the game down whether it’s in the batters box or on defense. And right there, that was a good job of knowing just how much time he had. We talk about that internal clock. He was able to gather himself, get a good grip, and make an accurate throw across the diamond. Will Adam Damus digs in now with a short stop takes a ball. One ball. No strike. Come on. And a foul ball. Baby, let’s go. Next offering is in for a strike. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Two outs. Base is empty. Now it’s Devers at the plate. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. [Applause] Outside low. Ball one. Late swing. Fouled to the left. in the dirt. Two and one.
Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And there’s a foul ball, two outs. Swanging a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Wilmer Flores getting ready to hit. 0 for three in this one. Swinging a foul straight back. Des off of first with two away. And a big swing and a miss. Pitch misses there.
And the count is one and two. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. [Applause] got him swinging. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. One hit, one left. Last half of the eighth coming up, it’s the Giants four and the A’s three. back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Eric Miller.
He’s doing the ball very well overall this season. He’s been really tough to get to. You see that erra and that’s where you love to be. Well, one-run game. Here’s the third base, Tyler Sodro. Tyler Sodrom [Applause] and fouled off. Grounds one to short. Adamus zips it across. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff, just like we saw.
Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. [Applause] Pitch misses inside and it’s one and0. Movement in the bullpen. Camilo Dval, the anchor of the staff, is getting ready to close this one out. Holding on to a one-run lead here. the bottom half of the eighth inning. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count.
Next pitch in for a strike. And it’s one and two.
He must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down main street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at swing and a highf fly ball. that one out towards left center field way back there. Hops over the wall and that’s an automatic double. That ball exploded off his bat and off the warning track as well as it bounced over the fence. It sounded really good, too. He just put together a really nice swing and just missed a home run.
So, the tying run in scoring position now. Nick Curts will hit next. Check swing. Did he go? No. [Applause] Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. Little chopper rolls foul. So, the tying run at second. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Two balls in a strike.
Evidently not too impressed with that call. and it feels like he got squeezed on the outside corner. So, he’s making his case. You’ve got to be careful to pick your spots in terms of showing your frustration with the umpire and he felt this was his time.
Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know, it’s going to finish well off the plate. Manage second. Fun off. Foul [Applause] on the ground to first takes it to the bag. Steps on first and it’s out number two. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here’s the short stop at the plate. Max my one for three. [Applause] Swig appeal to first and yes he did. He went around [Music] the shortstop takes the ball. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 2-1 skips in and excellent work to corral that one. Could have been dangerous. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Applause] Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Runner from third in to score. It’s an RBI single tie game here in the eighth. Such great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing. And there he doesn’t try to do too much. Austin wins up next for the A’s. And that one upstairs. [Applause] [Applause] line drive down the line and it’s fouled. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. That’s out to center field. Lee gets under it. drops into the glove and that is the inning. But the RBI single pushes across a run. All even now at four apiece. And we’re back. We go to the ninth and now the center fielder Jung Hu Lee. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. And that is out of play. [Applause] That one finds the zone and the count is 0 and two. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Mason Miller, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Got him. Now five strikeouts for him in the mouth. Luis Moss now at the plate.
Left fielder Luis Moss. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. This guy is just filling up the strike zone right now. Don’t want to get yourself in an 02 hole. You better be ready to pull the trigger on the first pitch.
Ouch. That one drilled him. Safe at first. And now after the play, we’ll check on the lefty status. PG
Mason Miller, ready or not, in the game now after the injury.
Well, he’s got electric stuff coming out of the pin. His strikeout rate though is through the roof so far this season. Go ahead run on base. And up next for San Francisco, Patrick Bailey. He’s already homered here in this one.
Right through there for a strike. 01. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play
with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay on the double play right here. Not close with that one. And that’s ball one.
That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by.
And it’s a miss. Now two out. Now it’s going to be Tyler Fitzgerald. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. [Applause] Just missed. Two gone. The possible go-ahead run at first. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup late that time. It’s strike two. Pitch misses. Two balls, two strikes [Applause] with a go ahead run at first here in the top of the ninth. Tried hitting 101 and it wasn’t happening. That’s a strike out. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. job of getting out of the jam. Back now. And on the mound, the closer Camo Dval and this is his 40th appearance of the season, so he’s starting along a decent amount of work this year.
Camlo Dval. Now a move being made for a pinch hitter, Jacob Wilson.
One big swing could end it, but I’m sure he’s just looking to find a way on base, get something started. [Applause] That’s a little bit low. [Applause] That one missing inside. [Applause] Swings, fouls it off, and he breaks his back. [Applause] And that misses three and one. Ball four. He walked in and that keeps things going. Oh, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Looks like it’ll be a pinch hitter, Lawrence Butler.
Big at bat here. So, looking for a better matchup with a left-handed bat. [Applause] On the corner for a strike. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] [Applause] Tied at four. Ball. One, two. [Applause] That misses the zone. It’s two and two. Winning run on base at first. No outs. [Applause] That one the other way. Makes the catch. One down. That’s a big first out of the inning. He showed off his skills catching the line drive, but most importantly, he kept the runner out of scoring position. Things would look a little different if he didn’t make that play.
Here’s the second base, Max Schuman. [Music] In there at the knees. Outside low. One and one. Way to lay off that pitch down. [Applause] Slice to right and that’s just foul. [Applause] One and two now.
Good eye right there. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another one down. Winning run on to first [Applause] out on strikes. That was pretty nasty. Now that center
here’s the center fielder, Denzel Clark. [Applause] in the air to left down the line. Matos sizing this one up and that’s the inning. The A’s strand one. Score remains tied at four. And welcome back to the ballpark. We’re in extras here. And digging in for San Francisco, Brett Wisley. Pickoff move to second. Fitzgerald back in on a dive.
As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run, so you really have to execute on the mound. That one off the mark. One and0 [Applause] in the dirt. Kicks away from the catcher and on the wild pitch he goes down to third. Well, that right there can be a tough read as a runner on second to see if the ball’s gotten away enough to move to third. You have to be sure you can make it because you’re already in scoring position. Well, he was sure there and now he’s only 90 ft away from scoring. [Applause] And another ball. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you.
Mike Yremsky in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Gets the call and the count is three and one. Back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. [Applause] and ball four to a board. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. [Applause] Yenski in the box now. Takes strike one. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s 0 and two with a go ahead run at third. And here in extra innings. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that is a big first out. So he needed a strike out there and he got it. And now we’ll see how they play defensively.
Now they can move the middle infielders back a little bit. Get in the double play depth and look for a ground ball and roll it up. Get a big double play. Get out of this inning. I tell you what, that was a big strikeout in a spot where they really needed one. And now William, the shorts stop takes a ball.
One ball, no strike. [Applause] So, two balls and no strikes.
Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. [Applause] And that one is lifted in the air. squeezes it. Runner tags for home. He scores. That’s a big sacrifice fly and they lead it in the 10th. Sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things. Keep it simple. Runner third, less than two outs. Put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack fly. [Applause] Devils in the box now. No balls in a strike.
At bat can be a little bit of a dance. Strike one here. But few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. [Applause] Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. Wisely leads off first with two down to the inning. [Applause] swinging a ground ball up the middle to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Up next for the Giants, third baseman Wilmer Flores.
And next will be the cleanup hitter Wilmer Flores. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. [Applause] [Applause] the old one. That one in triple digits.
And a bat like this is almost over as it begins in this situation. You have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Two on, two outs.
And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. One run in the inning, but they lead two. Last chance to even things up. We head to the bottom of inning number 10. It’s the Giants five and the Athletics four. Bottom of the inning. Digging in Tyler Sodro for the A’s third.
Comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I mean, you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep.
Well, in this situation with the runner on second, you got to get them up to third. Think back up the middle or to right field. And another ball. Late swing. Fouled to the left. Hard ground ball for face stop. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He’s sat all tight again. 55. Just a huge bat right there. Just a simple ground ball the other way. They had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s [Applause] inside. And that is ball one. [Applause] And this is inside. Really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats and the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. That one drifts inside. Hey, he never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. And that’s fouled off. Winning run at first. Nobody out. And we’re in the last half of the 10th. Paul Thor. He warmed it. And that’ll keep the line moving. Face knock and now a free pass. This has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple more quality at bats.
Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. [Applause] [Applause] Swing and tapper that rolls foul. Winning run stands at second. [Applause] A sliding stop. There’s one
to first n in time. Great effort there.
Just so impressed with the movement on that play. Footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out. Maxy up next for the A’s.
RBI nod for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. [Applause] 10
now. A pitch out and perhaps they were protecting against the squeeze. One down and a winning run at third. [Applause] [Applause] Oh, he can’t hang on. He’ll still come home with it. In comes the winning run and the A’s walk it off in extra innings. So exciting to see a team walk it off. Not so much fun if you’re on the other side. But what a great way to win. This team is celebrating and this win is welld deserved. 65 the final here today. A oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us.
