The Royals sending out Michael Laorenzan for the start of this one while the Diamondbacks will counter with Anthony Dcliffani making his first start at the major league level since July of 2023. He has been seen in limited bullpen action for the Diamondbacks this season. Six runs, five earned on nine hits, three home runs allowed over nine and a third innings of work. Now Dcliffani, if you look at sort of that the breakdown of how it starts to have happened, you know, he gave up two runs in his debut, four runs against Toronto on the road, three earned on five hits um and a pair of home runs. But since those first two starts, he’s actually been fairly clean. you know, five shutout innings against the White Sox and the Giants. Only giving up one hit, had six strikeouts, no walks, excuse me, two walks. Um, but still, you know, you’re seeing some decent uh decent innings being logged from Decean. But those performances were against two offenses I don’t really trust in the White Socks and the Giants. The the two, you know, those two games, they only gave up a combined two runs and both those runs came against S came from the San Francisco Giants. So, I I don’t know how much stock I’m putting in that. I’m not saying that, you know, you can fault Dfani. He’s only pitching who he’s been up against. I’m just saying you kind of got to take the the results and take the numbers with a grain of salt. And um you know, you’re up against the Royals lineup that I’ve harped on plenty. If you follow my videos here at Pick Dogs, I I’m going to once again say it. I appreciate you guys for for doing so and for sticking with me. Um, but you’ve also heard me mention time and time again just how ineffective this Royals offense has been this season to where I would anticipate they lead baseball in games where you the team has scored three runs or less. And I think that the Royals are not, you know, a team that I really run out go out to back and sort of go out of my way to back offensively for for much of the season. But they really showed up in that opener on uh on on Friday despite not having great numbers against left-handed pitching. They cranked out nine runs when all was said and done in that game. And the Royals, I would say, have been better against right-handed pitching this season. And if this is a bit of a a spot start extended opener situation for the Arizona Diamondbacks, well, once Dcliffani leaves, you’re handing the ball over to an Arizona bullpen that I have not trusted for for, you know, I’d say at least twothirds, maybe 75% of the season, if not more. and a bullpen that has a 5.11 erra over the last seven days. That’s among the 10 highest in baseball. So, I think that the Royals can definitely do some damage here. On the other side, though, you’ve got the Diamondbacks who have been one of the premier lineups in baseball this season against right-handed pitching going against Michael Lorenzan, who has been admittedly better at Kaufman Stadium this season compared to his numbers on the road. Now granted, you know, Lorenzan wasn’t terrible in his last home start, uh, excuse me, his last road start, but still has a 5.68 road ERA this season, a 276 opponent’s batting average. Not numbers that you really want to see. You know, uh, 12 of the 17 runs that Lorenzan has given up have come on the road. Now, granted, he’s also made almost twice as many road starts as as his uh as his home appearances. 11 starts on the road compared to six at Kaufman Stadium, but, you know, Arizona very hitter friendly ballpark. Like I said, this is a Diamondbacks lineup that puts a charge into the ball against right-handed pitching and a Kansas City bullpen that, you know, is is solid on paper, but is right next to Arizona in terms of bullpen erra over the last seven days with a 5.16 erra. So, total set at 9 and a half. I got to roll with the over here between the Diamondbacks and the Royals. And that’s going to be my free pick.
