New York Yankees @ New York Mets | Game Highlights (7/6/25)

Oh, that lineup for the Mets. They’re going to face the ace of the Yankee staff, Max Freed, finishing up his warm-up tosses. And there’s a bunt and not handled by Freed. Freed a three-time Gold Glove winner. Could not handle that. Time was called and Fed said that was called too late. John Baker pitch clock violation.
He wants to say his piece and exactly the way he felt it. Get it out of your system, right? Because you got a big pitch coming up here. Full count with Sodto on deck.
I wonder where Sodto is standing. If he’s blocking the clock that Freedman saying to the I couldn’t see the clock. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Lindor down on strikes. You almost hold your breath. You just don’t want to see a big inning coming and you know a big pitch right there and he goes with the fast ball. Gets a swing and a miss. Runner goes and he’s in there according to the second base umpire Mike Estbrook. Highf fly ball center field. Gisham puts it away. Marte tags and draws the throw. all the way to the back stop and it comes all the way back to Freed. The two-2 center field. Gisham puts it away and that’ll do it in the first. No runs to hit. One man left. We go to the second and Taylor goes down. A one, two, three inning for Freed is retired six in a row. We’ll go to the third. Pop sign with the Mets yesterday. Highf fly ball right field. Sodto back turning walking. See youa a long home run into the second deck. Yankees won. Mets nothing. Austin Wells second home run of the series and he’s starting to swing the bat a little bit better. And you remember Flash last year he was really really good in the second half offensively. Swing and a miss. Throw to first. So strikeout put out. Two-3. Popped up. Goldmith in foul territory. Will put it away. That one is ripped to left field. It is a base hit. It’ll go into the corner. Playing it out there as Marte. Stanton’s going for two. The throw is not in time. Lead off double for Jean Carlos Stanton. Wow. That had a loud sound to it. Flash. This ball just ripped. And the funny thing about Stanton is he has to read Marte. And you see you get a long carum there because he knows he can only go about 70% and still make it to second base.
That one is looped into right field. It is a base hit. Stan had a hold up and he will advance to third. So base hit for Bellinger now has a 12game hitting streak and the Yankees have runners on the corners. Ground ball. Grabbed there by McNeel. There’s one. No return throw. Scoring is Stanton. So an RBI and a field’s choice for Vulpi. And the Yankees have a two nothing lead. Runner was going. A swing in the miss.
An old school hit and run.
Yeah, no doubt about it. You saw that the hack here. I mean, this is just trying to put the ball in play. I think Aaron Boon saw the same thing. Anything away, DJ’s going to be able to shoot that hole. Maybe go first to third. Chops slowly third base. Vientos charges, bare hands, fires. Not in time. Moving to third. There’s Vulpi. Infield single for Lameu. Ground ball. There’s one. No return throw as Vulpi scores. And it’s three nothing Yanks. He does not panic with two strikes. And a lot of hitters, you know, just want to put it in play, get out of there, do something where he just takes it pitch by pitch. He’ll fight his way back in the count. Good job by Free. Something hard up after the breaking balls [Applause] left field and that is in there for base hit up against the wall. Goldmitt going for two and he’ll make it. And those are nothing yet. That bring the infield halfway for Judge [Applause] into left center field. That ball is going to be gone. Just over the wall into the seats. A two-run home run for Judge. And it is five nothing Yanks. Blair and Judge. I mean, this is really amazing to me. But you know, another thing is you’re uncertain if you’re going to get a pitch because they’re probably going to pitch around you. Well, they didn’t. And I’m sure that Mendoza is going to have to answer to this after the game. But a good big two-run homer for Aaron Jud. I just don’t see Gisham not get great jumps on the ball up the middle and through for base hit. McNeel scores. Sanger scores. It’s a two-run single for Lindor. The Mets are on the board. It’s 52 Yanks. Swing and a miss. Got him. Sodto down on strikes. Two away. Fly ball right field. Judge makes the play and that’ll do it. But the Mets put a two spot on the board and drive up Freed’s pitch count. 5-2 Yanks. Another inning set up. Nothing easy. ground flag.
Yeah, if you’re a little Isiza though, you just got to stick with it. You know what your strength is. It’s that two seamer getting ground balls. [Applause] Soft ground ball going to be a tough play. And they get the out. No, the ball gets by. Everybody is safe. Goldman fires to second but diving back is Batty. So everybody is safe. A run scores and it’s 53 Yanks. Ground ball is short. There’s one and a nice scoop by Goldmid for two, but a run scores and now the Yankee lead is down to one run [Applause] into right field coming on. Judge dives and makes the play and saves the lead by making the play and taking a hit away from Marte. But the Mets creep closer. They score two runs. They lead one. We go to the seventh. It’s a nailbiter. City 5-4 Yanks. Grounded up the middle and through. A base hit for Goldmid as he leads off with a single. He’s two for four. Grounded fair and into foul territory on the right side. Goldmid will go to third. Gisham picks up his third base hit and the Yankees first and third. You talk about Aaron Judge and his power and it’s obviously impressive, but the way he stays through the zone gives him a chance just to foul off a tough change up right there. A lot of hitters, their bat would be in the strike zone and out it’d be strike three, but he gives himself another chance. Highf fly ball deep left center. Marte back. He’s on the track. He makes the play in front of the wall. Tagging is Goldmith. He’ll score easily. It’s a long sack fly for Judge. And the Yankees have their sixth run at 6-4. Lined into left field. Coming on is Bellinger and he makes the play. He fires to first. Oh, what a double play by Bellinger. Michael, you better keep screaming cuz this is an amazing play. First of all, to take it on the shoelaces. This ball gets by you, you got a triple. But he makes a tremendous play and then looks up and realize he’s got a shot and throws an absolute missile. A huge double play. I mean, these are good type of plays that can win a game. Grounded to first. Oh, what a play by Goldman. Tags out Mauricio. Steps on first. A sparkling defensive play by Paul Goldmid.
I tell you what, the last two innings I’ve seen some of the better double plays you’ll ever see in the game of baseball. This is a rocket right at him. knocks it down and Mauricio just gets caught off the base.
39 strikeouts in 31 and a third innings is the RA 5.17. Well, the last time we saw Williams in Toronto pitched on Wednesday. Hasn’t had a whole lot of work lately. Oh, he gets a strike call. Torren did not like that. And the O2 strike three. Same spot. Wow. Same reaction by Tans. And here comes Mendoza. Now Mendoza gets thrown out. Kicks up dirt on home plate. He’s going to get his money’s worth. [Music] [Applause] [Applause] And the pitch. Did he go around? Yes, he did. Ball game over and the Yankees take the final game of this three-game set. Six to five. Williams works a one, two, three. Bottom of the ninth and Juan Sto ends the game on deck. Wow. A unbelievably huge win for the Yankees. And it just goes back to situational hitting early in the game, great defense late in the game, and a check swing puts the Yankees where they need to be with a win. [Music] [Applause] Can’t do count your [Music] streets will

  1. As a life long Yanks fan since 1975, this team, like last year, is a paper tiger. Boone needs to go. Cashman, surrounded by yes men, too.

  2. Crazy fact in both 6 game losing streaks the Yankees couldn't score runs while they're pitching at the time was really tough the next one they gave batting practice hits and couldn't stop thd the other team from giving up runs
