A different look on the mound here today. The Diamondbacks set into the all star break playing 17 games in 17 days. It’s quite a stretch. And so Anthony is plugged into today’s start and it allows the Diamondbacks to push all the starters back, create one extra off day for the whole rotation heading into the final week of the first four appearances as a diamond back all in long relief and this is his first start since July 2020 three. Jonathan leads off with Bobby with Jor on deck in Patino in the hole that you bet he did start for a strikeout for, to open the ball game. And that brings up Bobby Wor to the curveball again. Herrera hangs on and struck out the first two he’s faced and a two hopper to first. It’s booted briefly by Naylor but he takes it to the back himself. It’s a 123 innings for the veteran right hander and now Michael Lorenzo takes the mound for the bottom of the first. He makes his 18th start of the season and enters with a 495 a in 92 and two thirds innings Baba swung on and missed strike. Three, Lorenzen threw it up and in and Then tied up for Carroll. Here comes the all star starter could tell Marte honored with his all star jersey just a few moments ago. Fastball right by him and now Marte is zero for seven with four strikeouts all time against Lorenzen. Got the inside edge. Lorenzen strikes out the side with 15 pitches and 11 strikes, got him on the back of his left shoulder while he was turning away in the righty batter’s box. And the Royals have their first baserunner slowly hit up the middle Perdomo. Good breaking ball breaks his bat gets a ground ball, just can’t get an easy double play than that. And now the bases are empty with two outs for Jack strike three is a strike, three outs on six pitches, one away. And now a Eugenio Suarez comes to the plate, that’s another strikeout for Lorenzo. He means business today. He comes out and strikes out for the first five Lowe that is ball four and mccarthy, a two out walk to keep it going for Randall popped up left side and junior makes the play. So that’s two scoreless innings for Lorenzen and no score at the end of two in Phoenix bottom of the third and Alec Thomas to lead off and a swing and a miss and he strikes him out and the sinker takes care of Thomas and that’s five strikeouts for the Royals right hander two quick outs and now it’s carroll up for a second time and a swing and a miss strikes him out with a fastball that is six strikeouts for Lorenzen through three scoreless frames. So Lorenzen has struck out six through three innings. DFA has now struck out five through three and a third. Here’s Bobby, he’d like to hit one that sinks into the pool out in right center and there’s a swing and a ball well, hit deep , left field, way back goes mccarthy. It’s gone. Bobby Witt Junior gives the Royals a one nothing lead 12th home run here in the fourth inning one nothing KC ambushed it first pitch. Hey, look, you can’t sneak a piece of cheese by a hungry Bobby Junior, that’s for sure right here. No, and it wasn’t cheese. It was a little wrinkle but stayed middle up just enough to get his bat on it. Two down four, Salvador Perez. He was hit by pitches first time up. That’s blasted. And the Royals get two home runs in the fourth inning. Oh, that was loud. Why would you throw him a fastball right down the middle when you got him to chase a couple of balls off the plate? Oh, yeah, you can’t stick a piece of cheese by the captain either. Two and four hitters. Got it going on. Oh, man. Look at that. That’s, that felt good. I can tell. Look at, yeah, he goes you drill me in the back the first time, I’ll get you back. How about that good payback? He’s actually yelling out at Marte at second base. So he was looking right by Delani and letting Marte have it. Oh my goodness. Cag Leone took a breaking ball that hit his foot and Then ricocheted off of his beak. They don’t see that that often. He has a size 17 ft. So it’s hard not to hit his foot. You’re going to pitch him down and in one on and nobody out here’s nick Lofton Cag Leone is running and he got a really good job and Herrera had no shot. Hey, that’s his first big league bag, long leg strides for Jack Cag Leone and he’s in his scoring position with nobody out. Now work him over. This is a good opportunity for Nick Ouch off the pitcher and he’s going to be safe at first base. He’s wearing that one. That was a loud sound against Anthony de came off the bat at 91 miles an hour and the D backs already had somebody up in the bullpen and this might be the thing that gets him out of the game. This is his first start since July of 23. You know, there’s no way he wants to come out of this game and he’ll stay in the game. Batter is john Rave the left fielder who’s zero for one runners on the corners. Nobody out top of the fifth grounded into right field three nothing Royals and Lofton will go to third. That’s what we’re talking about. That was a big hit right there. All three batters have reached back to back, hard hit singles and to Laos come out of the dugout. That’s it. For Dele Jalen Beaks has been warming up in the bullpen for the Diamondbacks. The new pitcher for the Diamondbacks is left hander Jalen Bess. 41 appearances. He worked back to back scoreless eight innings Thursday against the Giants Friday against these Royals runners on 1st and 3rd. Still nobody out. And now Kyle Isbell bats against the new pitcher and Isbell fights it off into left field and the Royals lead four nothing all that pitch that comes in lots of times going to get a swing out of it. But for Beak, he didn’t want this a nice job of fighting it off is that’s a clean single with another and that makes it 18 RB for him to the bottom of the order, doing what they’re supposed to do. Two outs. Michael Lorenzen is not allowed to hit through four innings. Brings up Randall who’s zero for one with a pop out one to left in pursuit. He’s going to have to play it high off the wall, hit another one off the wall. This one’s a double, the first hit of the day for the Diamondbacks is going to be a two out double and let’s see if the D backs get cash in here with Alec Thomas coming up grounded sharply to Vinny race to the base and Vinny is there in time. So they get five scoreless innings for Lorenzen and the Royals lead and it will be Michael Lorenzen back on the hill here in the sixth inning. Lorenzen has walked one. He struck out six, his season high for strikeouts is seven. He’s done that four times this year. Pitch swing, a liner caught by a leaping Lorenzen boy catlike reflexes. He was in a good enough position after his follow through. He’s able to reach up and make a heck of a catch to retire Herrera and the waters get deeper again. Now, as Corbin Carroll stands in zero for two with a couple of strikeouts swing and a miss and that is a strikeout and that equals a season high for Michael Lorenzen, seven strikeouts. Now for Michael Little flair, shallow left Bobby on the run, he can’t get there but Lofton gets there to make the catch for the out. How about Michael Oren six scoreless innings on one hit Michael Arenson back on the hill trying to keep it rolling. Six scoreless gets it started as he so often does dunks it into short left the curveball that time, it’s a base hit one away. Now for Geno was named to the National League all Star team earlier today at left side charging and lo and goes to second one and he will not get a throw off to first base. They get one, not two. And to is the run, first two down broken bat and Lofton throws on the run in time and Michael Lorenzen has given the Royals seven scoreless innings just what the doctor ordered Michael for get away day. And Carlos Est-vez takes the mound for the bottom of the ninth inning forEst-vez. Est-vez. This is a rare non save situation though when he’s had a save situation, he’s been brilliant. His 24 saves are the second most in the American League and there’s one gone in the bottom of the ninth. Here is perdomo and hit him. Step has missed inside with the pitch and the D backs have a baserunner chance for Josh Taylor. Now Naylor hits it very high to right field and Tolbert is there for the second out and now the Royals are an out away from finishing off this road trip with a win. Here is Eugenio Suarez and Suarez hits it in the air deep to right field. Tolbert’s onto the track, he’s at the fence, he’s got room, he makes the catch and the ball game is over. The Royals shut out the Diamondbacks 40 to take the series finale and clinch a series win and the numbers are disturbing from a diamondback perspective. They have now dropped eight of their last 11 games to fall two games below 500
