Cardinals vs. Cubs Game Highlights (7/6/25) | MLB Highlights
There was always this belief in Matthew Boy and it’s paid off now and I know Craig Council felt great about telling him you’re going to Atlanta.
We had a 203year-old allstar and now we have a first time 34y old allstar Matt Boy. You had an unbelievable first half and it’s been fun for all of us to watch. Get to watch you take the mount today. Do your thing. Uh I’m proud of you. to Donovan 18 career leadoff homers for a guy that has made his first Allstar team and Donovan will ground one to the second baseman Horner and a slider for one up good played appearance good at bat for Mason Win who draws the walk plenty of room between BCH and her and that’s where that ball is hitting so her has to go way over fires in time he put it to the one place that a slow roller would result in an infield hit. Two on, one out, no score. Top of the first.
And he reached for it and he couldn’t get it. A filthy slider for his first strike out of the night. And second out of the inning. Big open stance for here it comes. And he chased way outside. They had a chance the Cardinals to get him early and they couldn’t. Backto back punch out
and that’s out number two. And Tucker has to hold at second base. Let’s see if Pete Crow Armstrong can drive in the game’s first run. Here’s the line drive. base set to left. Tucker’s going to score. The throw goes to second. Cubs lead one to nothing. Pete Bro Armstrong delivers. The All-Star delivers his 67th RBI to make it one- nothing Chicago.
Give Pete Pro Armstrong a lot of credit. First pitch, a seat change up, but he allows it to travel. Yeah, there’s some intangibles in there, too. I mean, it’s hard to sort of, you know, quantify deception. A lot of analytics departments are trying to figure a formula for that, but he’s definitely got it. That’s three strikeouts in a row now for Matthew Boyd.
You know, again, we tend to look at a 95 mph fast as I guess major league averageish nowadays. It’s still a good fast one.
So JC at second, one away. Cubs lead one to nothing second inning. Pedro Pahes, the batter. Now a 3-2 that slow change up to get him and he picks up his fourth strike out of the night. I’m walking back to the dugout saying he abused him on that pitch after the slider down and in. He’s thinking, “Okay, has to come with a fast.” He’s got two strikeouts this inning, four in the game. And he’s ready on a one-two to Hampton is gone. That’s his third of the inning. He’s got five and a wor to perfection. Outside ball four. They’re loaded with Kyle Tucker do up. Oliver Marmal to the mound. And I think that’s going to be all for Eric Fetty.
King Tuck. Kyle Tucker up a 264 hitter against lefties. And the Cardinals have gone to the lefty John King. And that’s going back and into center field. It brings in her Shaw follows him to third goes half and the King delivers. Kyle Tucker brings in two. It’s three nothing Cubs. 53 and 54. runs batted in as Boyd back on the first man he faces Brendan Donovan in on the grass. This one is pulled. It’s smothered by corner but he couldn’t come up with it and likely wasn’t going to have much of a play. Win was great in two strike counts last year with 80 hits and he’s gone. Win 93 with a four seam fast for a punch out. Six of the game for Matthew Boyd. Contrera smokes this one left center field. Pro Armstrong. He’s there to run it down and he made it look easy. That’s what every Scott will tell you about him growing up. Man, he glides to the baseball and the wind also helped keep it in the park and blow it back towards him.
Big swing and a miss. He came back inside with a four seam fast ball. He strikes up for the second time. He’s gets seven punch outs. In the second, 0 for one. Lefty, lefty match up with King on the hill. He sets up, works his motion and deals. Maguire lines one into Reagan drops in for a base hit. Buff score. Swansson stops at third. RBI single for Maguire. And the Cubs extend the lead. Four to nothing now over St. Louis here in the third. Now, Cardinals manager Oliver Marl is going to make another pitching change.
The Cardinals have thrown 81 pitches in this inning. and do not have an out in the third inning. Chopped to third. Fielded on a high hop by Saji. His throw home is wide. Swanson scores and the Cubs extend the lead. Now up five to nothing over St. Louis. Bases still loaded. No one out here in the third and the Cubs have already played it two in this frame.
The one strike pitch is grounded to the right side and that’s going to be handled by Contraras. He tags the runner going down to first base. They call him out. And that the Cubs may complain about that as Contrarus asked for time. Here comes Craig Councel. He doesn’t like that call. He was called out of the baseline. Hap was I thought he was tagged anyway. I thought he was too. The call was actually that he was out of the baseline. It scores another run at the very least for the Cubs. And it’s now 6 nothing Cubs.
Tucker waits the pitch and a line drive hit to center field. Racing over into right center and making a sliding catch. Hamson tagging and coming home is Maguire. It’s now 7 nothing Cubs after the sacrifice fly by Kyle Tucker. Cubs have built up a nice sevenun lead. The inning not over yet. Two down a man at third and the big RBI guy on the team. Seiya Suzuki stepping in.
Sei lines one down the left field line. It’ll drop in and roll all the way to the wall. Shaw comes in. Suzuki on his way to second. Big turn there, but he’ll stop. RBI double for Seiya Suzuki. And the Cubs lead 8 to nothing here in the third for Seiya. That’s RBI number 76 on the season. Matthew Boyd on the hill for the Cubs. He’s thrown 62 pitches over the first three innings. He’s given up three hits. That is another strike out. And a good start to this inning. He picks up his eighth punch out. And he too going Matthew Boyd. A one, two, three. His first of the night comes here in the fourth.
Swanson at first. Swanson on the mound. Nico her at the plate.
And that’s a fair ball pass the guy to JC and it’s going to get all the way into the corner. Swanson a good base runner will easily come all the way in and that is going to be a Nicoer triple. Tell you this, two guys that can hit FO really well. Dancy Swanson and Nico putting up big numbers. High chopper that will get the run in and win will throw out Magguire. Say Suzuki’s got to be in Atlanta, doesn’t he? He’s an allstar. First half of the season’s been phenomenal. Another run batted in tonight.
How about a late entry into the home run contest, too? Okay.
He gets named.
Yep. Smokes this one to right center and it is gone. We are down. Sea Suzuki. Another homer. Another RBI. And another reason to get him in the home run derby. My work here is done. This is my campaign for Sey Suzuki to make the All-Star game cuz I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that he hasn’t been named one yet. We still got a week. So, thank you guys.
25 homers, 77 runs batted in. exit stage right on a Coney mic drop call to get him into a home run derby as well.
And that’s out number two. Cardinals down to their last chance. Valencia induces the popup. Fittingly, Pete Cro Armstrong nearly on the infield there to make the play and seal the Cubs 54th win of the year against only 36 losses.

GO CUBS NATION
[ W ]
Cardinals players, you've made our necks like sesame seeds, due to the closeness of the football results. Please hide in the shadows so we can forget this miserable result against the Chicago Cubs.
What a BEATING!
Let's go cubbies
Love the camera work.😳😳
Marmol will hopefully be gone after the All Star break🙏🏻
Cubs were a dangerous enough team already and then you went and snubbed 4 of their very deserving hitters from the All-Star Game. When they go from electric to supernova from here on out, just remember you did this @MLB
Fedde and mikolas cy young incoming
Was in person for this game and the stands were emptying by the bottom of the 7th smoking that cardinals pack😹😹
The MLB will suffer the Wrath Suzuki
Seiya Suzuki is mlb rbi leader btw and he not an AS
I love PCA and Seiya’s friendship
Imagine how good the Cubs offense would be if they got anything at all out of Happ, Shaw and Swanson??
Big time Rush New Hit Call Wow
誠也はキャリアハイになりそうな今年がオールスター最大チャンスだったかもしれない😮
残念😅
Yes Cubs 👏👏👏👏👏
Its safe ti say Erick Fedde needs to go bye bye. 0 srikouts in 2 games 8 ish innings. Yikes
6-7 RBI'S for PCA
Happ was safe btw another ridiculous call by umpires this year. Contreras missed the tag and in no world was he out of the baseline. You have an established 3 feet on each of the base path and he very much was within that. Also there’s no way you can be out of the baseline while sliding/diving into the base at the same time. Wouldn’t have mattered but just blatantly the wrong call.
I can’t believe this team rn! Go Cubs Go💙❤️🤍
And all the Cards fans will crawl back under their rock. GO CUBS GO!
THIS is why this is our year. All you nay-sayers we’re going all the way in 25 baby!
Close one Cards…
Say a joke, the MLB RBI leader not in all-star game
Saint Seiya Suzuki is explosive with the bat. Cubs pitching with virtually untouchable tonight
Cubbies ❤
