MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 6, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
just about set to go there and the right-hander with the good curveball, Chris Basset. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough.
Well, it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of erra, but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness, if you will. We’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses, put himself in a position to bring that erra down because, you know, in the back of his mind beyond the W, he wants to have a better earned run average. That’s a ball. There’s a strike and a count. Two and one. just missed. That smashed towards center. Springer there makes the catch. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lot. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now, Nolan Showell. Tops on the team in batting average, boo. A guy who’s showing off some excellent bat-to ball ability when he digs in at the plate. You know, that’s useful if your team needs to get an inning going, get a leadoff man on, but it’s also incredible to have a guy like that in the lineup because he’s a run producer who can drive in runs if you’ve got guys on base already. So, he’s a huge piece in this lineup. Shadow forced to get out of the way of the first pitch. One out. Base is empty. In there at the knees and the count one and one. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. off the
mark there. The countdown now two and two.
Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone.
One down, base is empty. Pitch misses and that’s ball three. And that is low for ball four. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk.
One down. Here’s Trout. He has, as they like to say, let me guess. Boo. Light tower power.
That’s right.
Counts one and0. Shadow the base runner at first with one out. Swang and a miss. One and one. Next pitch misses way outside. Yeah, that’s outside. Hit hard. Base hit. Quick throw back in. Lead runner holds at second with one gone.
Left fielder Taylor Ward. We all saw hit hard. But how hard was it? Singy Stackcast is here with the answer.
Yeah, Boo. It says the exit VO was 113 mph and it looked every bit of it, didn’t it? I mean, just an impressive swing of the bat and clearly he saw it out of the pitcher hand no problem. Now it’s going to be Taylor Ward in the dirt. No movement on the base. It’s ball one. check swing, but he went too far. One ball, one strike. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. The pitch swings and chases a low one there. Knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ball double play opportunity here. You’ve got to lay off pitches down in the zone right there. Swinging at that pitch. That’s a no no. That one missed.
Here’s a guy at the plate. I’m expecting to have a good game. He always seems to play better in road games. And it remains two and two. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Good battle here. about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. That’s off the inside corner and that’s ball three. Joe Adell in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And here’s a 3-2 hit in the air left field. Schneider under it. He’s got it. And there’s two away. just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left.
Here’s Joe Adele. Chris, he’s definitely going to finish the year with a new careerhigh in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. And that’s in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Swung on, belted way back there, and it is gone. And they jump out front. It’s 3 nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer.
And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Well, he did a really nice job of letting that ball travel. Wasn’t too quick. He kept the shoulder square to home plate, which allows you to drive the ball to the opposite field with power. You see the power and the authority. And fortunately, he was lucky enough to keep it fair. Jorge Zolair up at the plate. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Drops into the glove and that is that. Angels add three on this blast. It’s now 3 nothing. It’s Major League Baseball on the show back here at Rogers Center. And today’s starting pitcher, Tyler Anderson.
Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Bottom of the first and now for the Jays. Nathan Lucas and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter.
Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning. Get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Little bit high. Two and one that finds the mark on the inside corner. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Line drive caught batting second.
Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays.
They do a lot of things well in this offense, Zingi. They control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs and as a result, one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call off a player, he steps right in and continues with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. There’s the strike. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this. Teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is life. Throws to first. And here this afternoon, two quickly away in the bottom of
first base. [Applause] Two down, base is empty. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Now, Vlatty hitting third in the lineup and he was born in Canada.
Just a bit tardy there. Not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed. Two outs. Hit on the ground to the right side. He’ll do it himself. And the Blue Jays go down one, two, three. Nothing do it for the Blue Jays. They trail in this one three nothing. Back now in Toronto. Second inning set to go. And the batter now Logan Ohappy. Basset back to work. There’s a strike. [Music] That one hammered but pulled foul. Next pitch is downstairs. [Music] And that’s in the dirt. stays alive. [Music] Two down and they’ll do it again. Swings through that and it’s a strike out. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out.
Luis Ringo getting ready to hit. That’s off the mark and it’s one and0. Ball one, no strikes. [Music] breaking ball. This is down and away. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one.
Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone. Boog. It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others, but I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So, you got to stay ready up there.
Yeah. One of those umpires you just have to know what to expect, right? Exactly. back up the middle in a base hit. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Batting ninth, second base number 17. And now the rookie second baseman looking for his first big league hit right here. Swinging a miss as he was late. 01’s the count that misses the zone. Ball one. What a stop.
Offbalance feed. Here’s one double play.
What a quick killing to end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Angels three and the Jays nothing. And we’re back. And now the right fielder Addison Barer.
Right fielder Addison Barger. That one inside and that’s ball one.
A three 0 lead is great, but you can’t get too comfortable. Got to stay aggressive. Keep attacking hitters. Try to cruise through this ball game. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one.
One ball, one strike. Swing. And that ball smashed on the line. And there’s a hit. Had a good start to the inning. Batting fifth catcher.
Alejandro Kirk. Next up for the Blue Jays.
Obviously a guy who makes good contact, hits for average, but one of the things in today’s game, the value in the fact that he hits both righties and lefties. They’re so reliant on the matchups nowadays, Chris. And it’s huge when you don’t have to sit a guy or platoon him. When you can hit, you know, both sides in terms of pitcher arms, you’re a guy that it’s hard to take out of the lineup. And I think it’s very important today when everything is under the microscope. Softly hit to third. Ranifo fires across the diamond. That’s one out in the bottom of the second.
Batting six designated hitter Ernie Clement. So now here’s the DH Ernie Clement. Ernie swing and a miss as he was out front.
Oh and one out towards left center. Adele sizes this one up, corrals it and there’s two away. Batting seventh, third baseman Will Wagner. So a man aboard and next for Toronto, Will Wagner. And that one missing low. He swings and fouls one off. [Music] The one-1. Swings through that one for strike two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it.
And that’s downstairs and outside. That’s down and in. [Applause] In the air, left field down the line. And that is a foul ball. [Applause] [Music] [Music] Man on second, two down,
and ball four, two aboard.
Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk. Very gritty. Davis Schneider.
Now the left fielder, Davis Schneider. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Anderson ready to work outside low and one and one. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Next offering is in for a strike. Man, I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now. I mean, these are tough spots where pitchers really got to bear down. Those last two pitches were well executed. Ground ball right side and that one handled. They take the force out and the inning is over. Blue Jays leave a pair. They trail it here 3 nothing. New inning getting started. So in now for the Angels. Zack Neto. and downstairs. Next pitch in for a strike and the count one and one.
You know, these Angels showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. That just misses. three and one.
And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. [Music] Fouled off and they’ll do it again. [Music] Got him. looking and one away. Now batting first base
and the batter now Nolan Showell the walk and a run scored his first time. fouled off to the right. [Music] One ball, two strikes. On the ground to short, dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw and they don’t get the out.
Now batting designated hitter Mike Trout.
One gone runner at first. Here’s a big power threat. Mike Trout one for one with a single and a run scored so far. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. On the ground to second, might be two. Off balance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there.
Now batting left fielder Taylor Ward. And next will be the cleanup hitter Taylor Ward. Fly to left his first time. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. One and one
in the dirt. He’s in there.
So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Nobody on defense feels great right now. The pitcher feels responsible for missing so far outside. And the catcher wishes he could have done more to try to stop it. Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. And there’s a ball. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Tra at second with two down. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. So now two on and two outs.
I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow. Now batting the center fielder Joe Adele.
First and second, two outs. Joe Adele the next to hit. He’s already homerred here in this one. And that’s outside ball one.
Well, no count. Look for him to be aggressive here. You got some runners on base. An opportunity to catch a mistake and put some runs up on the board. Slice to right. Fair ball coming home. One run across. Runner holds it third. So just one across on the play. puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch and that’s how you do it. Here comes the manager out of the Blue Jays dugout and he will make a move to the pen. That’s it for Chris Basset and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching
Ariel Rodriguez into the game.
And he’s been fantastic this year. Really stingy in terms of allowing base runners. He’s just got great stuff that’s tough to square up. Jorge Solair now at the plate. He’s 0 for one. That’s in there. Strike one.
Big moment in this game. Two outs, two runners in scoring position and could really break this thing wide open early. Outside low and the count even one and one and he gets that fast ball by him upstairs. I would throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up
on the ground. And that’s just foul. Caught on and missed. And it’s a strike out. And that is the inning. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. We head now to the home half of inning number three. Angels four and the Jays nothing. set for the bottom of the third. And now for the Jays, Leo Jimenez tried to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. Just missed. Just off the inside edge. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Two two in the count. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Two-2 now. Popped up. Foul territory behind the plate. has room and he makes the catch. Now batting short stop Nathan Lucas.
So digging in Nathan Lucas 0 for one so far. On the ground of first. He takes it on his own and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. center fielder George Springer. And the batter is George Springer. Grounded out his first time up and that drops in for a strike. The key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently.
Hitting the air out to center field. Adele brings it in for the third out. As we go to the top of the fourth, here’s the Angels catcher, Logan Oh. and he grounds one to the right side and a quick out number one. Now batting third baseman Luis Rehifo. Next to hit Luis Reanifo one for one with a single so far. Rodriguez 27 years old and he was born in Cuba. Check swing called strike. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. Check swing. No appeal. That’s inside.
Two strikes. [Music] Got him looking for the K. Fast ball at the letters. Frozen strike three. Oh, just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the heart stuff boring in on his hands. Two out, space is empty. Here’s the second base. Yeah, that’s fouled off. That’s a ball cut on and missed. 96 of FS. Two out. Space is empty. That’s ball two. Got him. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Angels held in check, but they lead it four to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark.
And now the first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. First pitch misses.
Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits.
Next offering in there for a strike and it’s a ball and a strike. Singi, one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value?
Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. That one misses.
So, a lead off walk that could jump start an offense that’s really struggled to score in this one. Don’t want to wake a team up with the free pass.
So, a man at first,
Addison Barger next up for the Blue Jays and he’s already singled in this game. Popped up to the left into foul ground. nabs it and there’s one down.
That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. In steps the man they call Captain Kirk. First time up. He grounded to third. That’s a ball. [Applause] dives and he can’t hang on. Gets it there in time though. So a tough play, but they do get out number two. You got to be kidding me. Did you see that throw? Not really, Boo. I mean, it happened in the blink of an eye, it seemed. But thankfully, Statcast is here to help us out. I mean, you don’t see many throws across the infield that get up into the 90s. So, he really reached back for that one, and he had to to get the out.
Ernie Clement next up for the Blue Jays. 0 for one with a fly out to center. man at second and it’s quickly nothing and two on the designated hitter outside.
Two strike. [Music] Fights that one away. Still one and two. Runner at second. Two down. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. No runs on no hits, no errors and one left on base. Onto the top of the fifth we go. Angels four and the Jays nothing. Back here at Rogers Center. Top five. John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Zack Neto. Rodriguez back to work. A short stop. Takes a ball. Movement in the bullpen. Nick Sandlin preparing to come on if needed. Brule also getting ready. [Music] Now one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. very dominant with that fast ball inside. Hitters going to be conscious of that. Now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the mound.
That one lifted to left. One up, one down. [Applause] Up next for the Angels, first baseman Nolan
Nolan Showell will hit next.
Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level and ball one. And there’s a foul ball. One down. Base is empty. Bad ball too. Two balls, one strike. [Music] That one the other way. Fires over to Guerrero. Two gone now. Daddy, the designated hitter, Mike Trout. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Mike Trout. One for two. In there for strike one. There’s the swinging a miss.
Just a bit late on that. 01 breaking ball. 02 hole. Now he’s going to have to shorten up, tighten things up if he’s going to have a good at bat. [Music] Next offering misses down and away.
I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. The one two and that just misses.
Really good take especially with two strikes. Ouch. That one drilled him. Safe at first. And now after the play, we’ll check on the right hand status. Taylor Ward.
And now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. Here’s the left fielder, Taylor Ward. That’s in there. That’s strike one.
This might be a steel situation, but that’s not your average catcher behind the dish. You have to be careful here. Two outs and it’s fouled away. And that’s off the inside edge. And the count one and two. Swings and miss has struck him out. Angels strand one. They lead four nothing. back now in Toronto. Now the third base, Will Wagner.
Third base, Will Wagner. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. man aboard on the leadoff single. Dominant performance for him today. Just two hits allowed so far. No runs across either. And
he’s had an answer for just about every hitter he’s faced. So I don’t think this hit is going to knock him off his stride too much.
Man at first, nobody out. So up next for Toronto, Davis Schneider. that one fouled off. Well, these Blue Jays just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of it.
This one swung on and hit well way back there. Go and go. He nails one out to right. It’s 4-2. This crowd is on fire right now. They’re going nuts thanks to that home run. [Applause] I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. That one ripped and foul ball. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand. Check swing and he went and that is strike two.
02 is the count.
Nobody on, nobody out. A pair of runs across in the inning. Last half of inning number five. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. He goes down looking. Well, he froze him with a great fast ball right on the corner. It’s kind of like bowling when you think the ball is going to get into the gutter and somehow just hangs onto that edge and knocks down a pin.
Well, he got the outside corner of the plate and got that called. Third strike. Back to the leadoff spot in the Blue Jays lineup. Now it’s the shortstop. Nathan Lucas striking the outside corner. Go and one. Still only one out here in the inning. Late on that fast ball. I think he was sitting off speed there. Two
strikes. That one just misses.
Well, clearly not too happy with the call there. Thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that’s not up. Here’s a one-two strike three and that’s two in a row. Man, I really like the ability to bounce back right there after not getting the call. He probably should have got didn’t let it affect his focus and came back with another good pitch to get him swinging. Here’s George Springer for two in this one. That’s a little bit low. Two down on and that’s a little bit high. Two balls, no strikes. Swinging a foul straight back. Hard hit right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s now 42. Major League Baseball is on the show. Top six. So in now for the Angels Adele. This one high in the air to left center and George makes the grab. Now batting right fielder Jorge Solair. So up next, Jorge Solair. And there’s the strike. Oh, and one ball. That’s it. [Music] just missed. Base is empty, one away. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. That misses. And now three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Has room and he makes the catch. Now batting catcher Logan Ohappy.
Two outs. Base is empty. And next for the Angels, Logan Ohappy. Swings through that one for strike one. All one’s the count. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Swinging a miss. Struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Offense held in check there. Hard of the order. 345 coming up. Angels four and the Blue Jays two. And we’re back. Bottom of the sixth inning. And here is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Press baseball today. So many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers. But this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. This guy who grew up in big league clubouses. Got to be a nice feeling. Singi when your father played in the big leagues and he passes down all that wisdom and that’s a fair ball now batting.
There’s something about pulling one down the line and shooting it through the infield. It’s just so satisfying as a hitter. It’s just fun turning on a pitch like he did right there. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Addison Barger. Swing and a foul out of play. Now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first. It feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. That’s a base hit. Adele quickly gets it back in. Runner holds it second, but they’ve got something going on here.
Couple of singles back to back. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. First and second, no outs. And here’s the catcher, Alejandro Kirk. That misses the zone. And that is ball one. [Music] He was late there. Strike one. Activity in the bullpen. Sam Bachmann, the young right-hander up and throwing. Burke getting cranked up as well with the go-ahead run at the plate here in the bottom of the sixth. That one missing inside. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Got him looking and that is a big first out.
Well, big strike out right there and maybe a little controversial with the call. I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that. And I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout. Making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the plate today. And now to the plate. Here’s the Toronto DH. Ernie Clement. [Applause] Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Two on, one out. Tap foul at the plate. [Music] Gets a piece and stays alive. Grounder might be two.
Offbalance feed. There’s one. What a double play that was. Inning over.
They made it look easy, but it started with a nice feed to the second base from the shortstop. Perfect turn and they’re out of this jam. Now pitching.
Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Nick Sandlin.
Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Now here is Luis Ringo,
third baseman, Luis Rehifo. And a foul ball. Sandlin goes 5 feet 11 in. He features a slider, a four seamer, a splitter, and he works in a sinker. Next offer is in for a strike.
No ball. Two strikes. Almost got him.
Two strike. [Music] [Applause] [Music] This to center field and it falls. So, a man on base to start the inning.
Good job of just putting the ball in play with two strikes. These days, most outfielders play pretty deep. And I’m not sure if that was a factor there or not, but off the bat, you’re thinking it’s going to be a pop out. And it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it. Now it’s the second baseman.
And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level.
In for a strike. It’s 0 and one. All in one. And that’s a little bit high. Toronto’s bullpen with some action. Jimmy Garcia getting ready to go. Reangho gets his lead at first with nobody out. Swinging a miss. That is strike two. One, two strike. Good eye in that spot. Ground ball right side. Could be two. The underhand flip. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Up next for the Angels shortstop, Zack Neto. Zack Neto getting ready to hit. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. Here goes the runner. Swinging a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Snags it for the second out. Now at the plate, Nolan Showell.
Nolan Shadow. Pickoff move to first and he’s back in on a dive. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. The kick in the pitch. Runner goes. That’s in for a strike. Throw to second. Ow. And that’ll end the inning. Well, trying to get in the scoring position, but a great catch and throw to end the inning. That’s the way to pick up the pitcher. Now pitching for the
we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Sam Bachmann.
Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Wagner up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. And now two balls in a strike.
That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. Next offering is in for a strike.
Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen.
Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out.
Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. And worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. Davis Schneider digs in now. He’s already homerred in this game. There’s the strike. [Music] One down. Base is empty. There’s the strike.
Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. And the one two misses to even the count.
He’s trying to stay down in the zone, but the hitter just will not chase. Now back in a two- two count. He’s going to have to go to something else to get him out. Got him swinging. coming out of the bullpen and throwing BB’s
chance to strike out the side. Now, you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss, whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. Oh, and he hit him.
That ball hit him. Nathan Lucas the next to hit. 0 for three in this one. Right through there for a strike. Well, a good slider from an opposite-handed pitcher has to stay in that tunnel just a little bit longer. Otherwise, recognition can cause you to barrel it up. And right there, the hitter clearly couldn’t do anything with it.
Inside just missed. outside low and it’s two and one. That one missed.
This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. [Music] The tying run at the plate. There’s the strike.
3-2. Two out. We’re on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Fouled off again. And it remains three and two. [Music] Bells that off to the left and we’ll do it again. swings through it for the K. That ends the inning. And now a man into scoring position. So no runs, no base hits, no errors, and one left. We look ahead to inning number eight. Angels four and the Blue Jays two. We go to the eighth and here’s the first baseman. Nolan Showell Sandlin back to work right down to shoot and one. This one in the air center field. Springer hauls it in for the out. Now batting the designated hitter.
And now battingout Mike Trout.
Great speed and great power. A great athlete quite simply. Yeah. Big swing and a miss.
When you have a real athletic player and who’s able to do the baseball mechanical things really well, look out because the sky’s is the limit on that potential. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the eighth. Ripped to third. Sends it across to first. That’s an out. Up next for the Angels, left fielder Taylor Ward.
Two down, base is empty. And next for LA, Taylor Ward. And that’s downstairs. And that’s ball one. [Music] That’s inside. And that skips into [Music] Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock and that keeps the inning going. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Digging in, Joe Adele. He’s done some damage. Launched a homer at his first at bat back in the first.
Yeah, that was a tone setter, no doubt. I mean, you can stomach an early solo homer, but a three-run shot just doesn’t go down quite as smooth.
Inside, ball one. Yeah, that’s too high. [Music] Fouled off left side. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an off speed pitch on this next one. Swing and a miss and the count’s even at two.
Ward off of first with two away. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Angels lead one as they can’t add to their 4-2 lead. Now pitching for the
back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Brock B.
These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Springer, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And that one is lifted in the air. Ward sizing it up. Stretches out and holds it in. Got to love the over the shoulder catch. I tell you what, those are really fun to make. Vladimir Guerrero.
Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. fought off foul. One down, base is empty. And that drops in for a strike.
Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat, if he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. popped up right side. Settles under this one. Hauls it in. Two away. Up next for the Blue Jays, right fielder Addison.
So here’s the cleanup hitter, Addison Barger. And that one misses up and in. And it’s one and0. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Pitch misses outside. And now two and0. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. Swing. Get a ball popped up. Neto on the move. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that will end the inning. Blue Jays go down in order. They trail it here four to2. Now pitching.
We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Jimmy Garcia. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. So in now for the Angels Jorgeielder Jorge Solair clips the outside corner. That’s strike one. And that’s downstairs and outside. One ball, two straight swing and a miss. Strike him out. Now batting catcher Logan.
And now the catcher comes up to here. Logan Ohappy 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Action in the pen down there. Brendan Little, the lefty with big swing and missed stuff is getting ready. clips the corner and the count even at one.
One way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. And a swing to miss. One ball, two straight. Got him swinging for the strike out. Over to first. Two quick outs here in the top of the ninth. Running out of chances to pad the lead. Oh, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. They tried to check the swing, just couldn’t do it. Rangifo in the box now as he leaves that one up high. [Applause] [Music] Bull. That’s out. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming [Applause] [Music] and a foul ball. He stays alive. Still two and two after the foul ball. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. And it remains two and two. This is something else. Running that pitch count off. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for the pitcher to have so many good pitches spoiled off like this.
Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] spoils that one and it remains two and two and a ground ball to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. No runs, no hits, no errors. Five, six, and seven will lead things off in the bottom of the ninth. Angels four and the Blue Jays two. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Kennley Jansen.
He last pitched two days ago.
Number 74, Kenley Jansen. Here’s the catcher, Alejandro. Toronto. He is at the top of the game in terms of defense at the catching spot. [Applause] And a pitch.
It’s so impressive because these guys have to do so much study and preparation for their pitchers, for opposing hitters, and really their number one job is to guide that staff through a ball game. And so when you also can turn it up often. Oh, this one high and deep way back there. Going down. That should put a jolt into this home crowd. It’s 43. That’s a great way to fire up this crowd. They’re feeling it now. [Applause] Well, not every home run is a majestic blast off the bat. And even though he hit it pretty well, it was anything but a sure thing to get out. But today, the conditions were right. He got just enough of it. And I think the backspin really helped that thing carry. Stepping in, Ernie Clemens, 0 for three, a fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. And that one fouled off. Now Boo, this is a real tough place for visiting teams to come in and close out ball games for a win.
Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. [Applause] And fouled off. [Applause] swing and a miss and he got him. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Well, when you throw the same pitch back to back, that’s how you want to do it. Set him up in the strike zone, then extend a little bit from there and see if you can get him to chase. Nicely done with the slider right there. He’s two outs away. And now Will Wagner [Applause] popped in the air left field. Makes the catch for the second out. Now batting
pinch hitter coming on Bobette. He comes to the plate in a huge spot in this one. There’s the strike. 95 of that one.
Oh, and one looking to get the tying run on base. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. Jansen is just one strike away. Tapped softly on the ground. Throw to first in time. And this one is over and the Angels hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game.
Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch.
