MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 6, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Coming up on the first pitch and pitching in this game, Brandon Fog and Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough.
Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. Jonathan India, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one late on that fast ball. One and one. There’s the strike at the knees. Swing and a ball popped in the air and it falls. So, a man on base to start the inning. back against the wall with two strikes but found a way. These days most outfielders play pretty deep and I’m not sure if that was a factor there or not but off the bat you’re thinking it’s going to be a pop out and it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it. Now here’s Bobby Wit Jr. The shorts stop takes a ball. Fought the tall righty 220 lbs and he was a fifth round pick in 2020. Next offering in there for a strike and the count even at one. Cut on and missed 96 of that fast ball. two straight on the ground to first. It’s in and out of his glove. The tag and he’s out. And here now the lineup for the Royals. This team, Chris, not one that gets a lot of production from hitting homers. So, they’ve got to find offense in other ways.
Yeah, Boog. Hit sequencing is so important for this team. You know, getting that walk at the right time, coming up with that next knock or extra base hit so that you can actually play to run. If not, then you see the record go in the direct opposite direction of where it could go. So, you know, a team like this, the good thing they’re going to battle. They’re going to put the ball in play and hope that they can find those holes. Now, a screamer into the outfield. Thomas makes the catch. runner tags second and he moves up to third now two away. So the go-ahead run in scoring position now it’ll be the cleanup hitter for the Royals Mikel Garcia. That one finds a corner and it’s 0 and one.
Two outs with a runner at third. fouled off down the right side. This one kicks away from McCab. [Music] The one two swings and misses. Some high cheese for strike three. So one hit is all they get. And now the Diamondbacks will get their first turn at bat. No score. back here at Chase Field and starting in this one, Seth Lugo. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, he’s allowing just over one base runner per inning, which is really good, especially for a starter because these hitters get to see you two, three, maybe even four times in a start. So, just shows you how deceptive and how effective his stuff is. We’ll see if it’s that way in this one. Catel Marte leading things off and takes a strike. [Music] And that one fouled off. Right. Delivers outside low. Now one and two.
One ball, two strikes to count. Got him looking. That’s a strike out.
So he gets the call and picks up the strikeout looking.
Sometimes with a good hitter at the plate, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that. but just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. So digging in Peralo Purdomo fought off foul Lugo. Not a big strikeout guy, but still very effective as far as starting pitchers go. one of those guys that involves the defense and really gets him involved in the action just off the inside edge.
He moves the ball around all the quadrants of the strike zone and will add and subtract velocity and because of that he gets the weak contact. It’s all about missing the barrel of the bat,
swinging a foul straight back. It seems like this type of guy is kind of a dying breed nowadays.
Well, exactly. when teams are looking for high velocity, high strikeout rates, guy like this doesn’t necessarily do that. So, in order to really appreciate how good he is, you have to see him because if you’re just looking at a stat sheet, you might overlook him. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Typically, that high fast ball, if it’s close to the top of the strike zone, a hitter, if he’s prepared for it, can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to. And that’s why you see the swing and miss one. This one high in the air to left center. Isbel right there to make the grab and that’s the inning. Scoreless after one. Back here in the desert. Top of the second and now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Thought back to work. Foul ball there. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up
to the right side and he takes it himself for the out right. So up now for Kansas City, John Rae. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. The next offering misses and the count is one and one. Gary Simmons, our played umpire today, sort of has a reputation as a pitcher umpire. Yeah, a little bit of a wider zone than most, I’d say. And a wide zone can be tough to deal with as a hitter because you have to start expanding what you’re looking for, covering both sides. And with the stuff pitchers have today, you’re just not going to have a lot of success.
One ball, two strikes. One down, base is empty. And Gary Simmons punches him out. That’s a strikeout. And next up for the Royals, Nick Loftton. And first offering is fouled off. Line drive. Base hit right field. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Ready catcher Freddy Fine.
Next is the Royals catcher Freddy Fine. Ball one, no strikes. In there for a strike at the top of the zone.
Loftton off of first with two away. chases that one upstairs. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with the fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. To third, Suarez. They take the force out. That’s out number three. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the second and now the veteran third baseman Aueno Suarez. swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can forget it. He circles the bases. His 28th home run of the season and they jump ahead in the second. It’s one- nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. With a low 90s fast, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient. Waited for it. Was like BP all over again. [Applause] Randall Gritic. Now you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. Fast ball for a strike and it’s one and one. [Applause] Back to the mound. It hit him. Now the throw to first on the rim. Not in time. He legs it out. catcher coming out to check on him. It looked like it got him on his back leg. So, you wonder if that might be a problem for him in terms of pushing off the rubber.
Yeah, it’s a great point and we’ll have to see how he looks. But to me, it appears he’s moving pretty well. I think it’s just going to sting for a while, but hopefully nothing more.
Next up for the Diamondbacks, Bla1 Alexander trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. swing and a miss as he was out front. All one’s the count. Late swing fouled off. One on, nobody out. A run in. Bottom half of inning number two. Chases that one out of the zone and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Here is James McCann off the plate. And that’s ball one. Man at first, one away. Next offering is in for a strike.
I got one ball, one strike. Two one
in the dirt but kept close. Here’s a two-1. Swing and a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Loftton makes the grab for the second out.
Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Now it’s the rookie first baseman. Flips the corner. One-on-one. Swings through that one.
No balls, two strikes. this to center field and a superb diving catch.
Great diving catch to end the inning. That’ll fire up the dugout for sure. Time to go swing it. And we’re back. Top half of the third inning. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. First pitch misses. And another ball.
He’s great hitting the ball the other way. And that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Next offering is down low.
Three balls. No strike inside corner and that’s called a strike. Back to back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. And a foul ball. Slow ground ball to the right side. He takes it on his own and one away in the top of the third. Jonathan India. Back to the top of the lineup. Jonathan Indie at the plate. He’s one for one. Let off the game with a single check. Swing and he went. That’s strike one. 0 and one right through there for a strike. [Applause] Off the mark there and a count one and two. Missed badly with that 02 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So got to stay ready for it. One out. Base is empty. On the ground to the left, Suarez whips it across and that quickly two away.
Batting short stop, Bobby Wit Jun. And to the plate for Kansas City. Bobby Wit Jr. Grounded out his first time up. And that one sliced fouled. A short stop. Takes the ball. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch.
Two out. Space is empty. The 1-1 is fouled off and that just misses.
Really good take especially with two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck came out and it’s a three up, three down inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing as we go to the last of the third. Here’s the center fielder, Alec Thomas. Thomas. Ball one on a pitch inside. Ball two and slashed foul down the right side that’ll hook off into the seats. That’s to third. Garcia throws across the diamond. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte. swings and misses. And it’s nothing in two.
This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. swings through that and it’s a strikeout. He’s notched four strikeouts now.
Well, when you commit to throwing an inside fast ball to your glove side across the strike zone, especially with two strikes, if you’re going to miss, you want to miss off the plate in. You do not want to leave it out over the heart of the plate. So, that was excellent execution on that pitch. Really tied him up and he couldn’t get a piece at all. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Just kept it simple. Played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from. And there was just no one there to knock it down.
And it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. That one misses and that is ball one. Let’s go. Guriel gets a piece. And a ball leaves a count. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Yeah, that’s outside. Full count. Three and two.
3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch.
This to third. Garcia whips it to first. That’s the inning. So, no runs here on a base hit. No errors and one left. Three innings complete. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing. Back here at Chase Field, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Vinnie Pasquantino. There’s a swing and a miss.
Well, these Royals, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone, and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see, but I think they have to. That’s outside and the count. One and two. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. So, here’s the cleanup hitter, Mike Garcia. struck out swinging his first time. Garcia in his second season, 25 years old, and he was born in Venezuela. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Here’s a 1-1. And that’s just foul.
The Dbacks leading by a run. Top half of inning number four. Outside low and the count is even. Two and two.
Two balls, two strikes. And that one is inside. Fans. Another. And that’s three straight strikeouts.
Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there.
Now Salvador Perez and first offering is fouled off. swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Quickly in an 02 count, you got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball. Put it in play somewhere. Then you got a chance. That missed by a lot. And the count is one and two. bounced and that got the pitcher. Gets it there in time though and they do get the third out. The inning is over. So no runs, no hits, no errors and no one left. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing. Back here in the desert, Aueno Suarez up to hit now. Just off the outside edge. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. [Music] Just missed. just missed.
Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center. That’s back there and into the pole. It’s out of here. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. It’s two nothing. This crowd is on fire right now. They’re going nuts thanks to that home run. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that. And probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here.
Next to hit, Randall Gritic. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, these Diamondbacks showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. That’s out to center field. Isbel settles underneath it, makes the grab. One away. still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game.
Next to hit for Arizona, Bla1 Alexander. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat, getting that first hit at the big league level. He swings and fouls one off. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Out to center. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Now daddy catcher James man.
Two outs. Space is empty. James man in now. Fly to left his first time. That one got close.
One and0. Two down. Base is empty but one run across. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. broken bat and it’s popped up. India makes the catch and that’ll do it. Another run for Arizona with this bomb. It’s now a two nothing ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the right fielder, John Ray. Thought back to work. Just missed.
Well, these Royals just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for him so far. Zero extra base hits in the game, so it’s been tough for him to get anything going. Swing it with a miss. One and two. Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through. But it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have guys in scoring position because they put themselves there. Swung on. Belted. And that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second. and he’s got a leadoff double. Everything came together for him. Put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And he’ll feel real good about that one. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Now here is Nick Loftton. One for one with a single so far. That one fouled off. man at second in the zone for a strike. That was the sweeper. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again.
Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next.
And that one is inside ball one. close pitch there and he’s kind of wondering where it missed. You know, getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from at bat to at bat. Ray leads off second with nobody out. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. in the dirt. Blocked. This one in the air. Suarez makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting catcher Freddy Fine. Freddy Fine steps in for the Royals. He’s 0 for one. And that one missing low. So runner in scoring position. And now the tying run comes to the plate. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Popped up right side on his way over. He’s got it and there are two outs. Now batting the centerielder Kyle Isel. Kyle Isbel steps in for the Royals.
It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. swing and a ground ball out to short. Handles, throws to first. That’s the third out. So, one left for Kansas City. They’re still down. It’s two zip. And we’re back. And here’s the first baseman, number 13. Number 13. First pitch not close. Just missed. Two balls. No strikes. Close one. Doesn’t get the call and it’s three and0.
A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. That one’s in there. And it’s three and one. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Thomas takes a ball as he stands in for the second time.
One, no strike.
Nobody out. Runner at first. That misses. And now two and0. [Music] This one in the air right field. Ray nabs it and there’s one away. Now that is hitter Marte.
So back to the top of the Arizona lineup. Catel Marte stands in now for the Diamondbacks who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Check swing. He went 0 and one.
0 and one. That one down the line. And that’s a fair ball. Lead runner holds to third. So, two runners in scoring position and just one out.
Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump off. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. So, two at scoring position with one out. Stepping in is the switch hitting shortstop. Peraldo Purdomo on the corner for a strike. It’s 0 and one.
Well, he’s so good about trying to drive the ball to the opposite field gap in these situations. If he takes that approach, he could bust this game wide open. Next offering misses, one ball, one strike. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Michael Lorenzan up and throwing long warming up as well. outside low. Two balls in a strike.
It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. Two on, one out. Pitch misses. Now three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. And that’ll load the bases. Well, the stage has been set for this offense, boo. It’s all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here.
So, they’re all loaded up. Here’s Guriel. Golden opportunity right here. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one.
Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. Highf fly ball out towards left field. That’s going back some more. Out of here. Grand Slam and they boost their lead. It’s 6 nothing. Listen to these fans.
This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. A great job here of staying within himself. You know that if you get a knock, you’re going to drive in a couple. So stay focused on that. Well, he does more than just a knock. hits the grand slam, the drive in four. Really good job at the plate.
And the Royals manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Seth Lugo out of the game. And this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Michael Lorenzan gets the call from the pen. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging it. Auheno Suarez up to the plate now. That pitch in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Four runs already in the frame. Last half of inning number five. up the middle. India tosses to first. Two away. Now batting rightielder. Two down. Base is empty. Now it’s the right fielder Randall Gritic. One for two. And that drops in for a strike. 0 and one. Next pitch is inside. And now it’s even. One and one. Basketball for a strike. One ball, two strike. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. Got him swinging. Grand slam for the Snakes here. The lead has exploded to a half dozen. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Chase Field, top of the sixth inning. Now, here’s the leadoff hitter for the Royals, Jonathan India. There’s the strike. Well, every pitcher wants run support and having a lead is nice, but it can be challenging for some pitchers. I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse. go after hitters and get quick outs. Now the 01. And there’s a ball. I can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. on the ground right side on to first leadoff man retired in the sixth now
Bobby Whit Jr. Now, he was drafted second overall by the Royals in 2019. Adley Rutman was the only player taken ahead of him.
Yeah, he was part of a really good crop of shorts stops. Bobby was the first one taken, but CJ Abrams, Bryson Scott, Anthony Vulpe, and Gunnar Henderson were also part of that draft class. How good is that? Pretty pretty good. And that’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Now the tag at second and he’s out trying for two. Another batter now Vinnie Pascantino and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. And that one just missed off the outside edge.
Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. this one in the air. Suarez and makes the play and that’s out number three. So another good inning for him on the mound. Six shutout innings now. It’s the Diamondback six and the Royals nothing. Back here in the desert, we go bottom six. And now Bla1 Alexander swinging a ground ball in plenty of time to first. One up, one down. James man. Now the Dback’s catcher James McCann for two in this one. Right through there for a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. John Shriber getting loose out there. Long getting loose as well. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the sixth. Next offering pop foul off to the right out of play. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. Two gone now.
Gosh, here it is. Hit it. Three pitch strikeout. All fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now.
Two outs, space is empty. And now the first baseman. That pitch gets the corner. 0 and one.
0 and one. And that’s downstairs and outside. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. That one fouled off. Two and two. That’s down and in. cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout and the Diamondbacks down in order, but they’re on top by a count of six to nothing. Kevin Ginkle gets handed the rock out of the pen
and he’s coming in to pitch on four days rest right here and that might not be a factor at all in terms of being rusty but he should definitely be well rested. Here’s the third baseman, Mel Garcia. And first offering is fouled off. Ball on there.
One and one. That’s a ball. And the two-1 hammered but foul down the line. Yeah, that drops foul. Ryan Thompson is forced to the mound after the injury. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season. And that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. That one outside. Three and two now. Base knock center field. Man aboard on the leadoff single. [Music] Now batting Salvador.
Next is the designated hitter Salvador Perez. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Thompson in his fourth year. He features a sinker, a slider, and he works in a four seamer. Next offering is in for a strike.
All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. So, Salvi is set down on strikes.
Well, that bat seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strikeout. You got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off. Extend that at bat. So up now for Kansas City, John Raeve swings through that one. 0 and one. Oh, and one now. Fly ball to right center. Grick sizing it up. They got it for out number two. Now batting leftielder Nick Loftton. So up next, Nick Loftton. Breaking ball inside. Ball one. Come on. Here we go. Garcia off of first with two away in the air. Right field. Gritic pulls that one down. And that is that. Royals leave one. Still up against a six nothing deficit. This one isn’t exactly close. Chris, let’s go off script for a moment. I’m game.
Were we on script?
Never.
Singy, where do you stand on the wave?
Well, the wave of star players in MLB or the wave around this ballpark.
The wave around the ballpark.
I think it’s a little outdated. I’m more of a Thunder Sticks guy.
And that’s not outdated. fouled off left side. You also had the pleasure of going over and hitting and taking batting practice at a big leaguer’s house. Who was that?
Yeah, Willie McGee. One of the greatest of all time in my opinion. Not
even in your neighborhood.
Yeah. His folks live right down the street from me. And that’s where his batting cage was. I used to look out of my backyard down the hill and just dream of one day maybe being able to go over and hit with them. And that dream became a reality when I was drafted by the San Francisco Giants. Marte. Here’s Catel Marte. One for three. At 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. The Diamondbacks up big in this one here in the bottom of the seventh and that’s off the inside edge and it’s one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. One down, base is empty. That one just misses. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Stays alive. Pitch in the dirt and it’s three and two. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Loftton pulls it down and there’s two gone. Now batting and the batter will be the shorts stop Paldo Peromo into center and a base hit. So Lordis Goreel Jr. now gets a chance with two gone. Now batting leftielder Lordis. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. He’s already homered here in this one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two outs. Swang at a highf fly ball hit the air left center field. This one’s got a chance. Caught just shy of the wall. One left for Arizona. They lead it though six zip. Ready to begin the eighth. Here’s the catcher. Freddy for me. Thompson back to work. Line drive. Come on. Nothing you can do about those as a hitter. Even though you know that, they still drive you absolutely crazy.
Kyle Isel. Kyle Isel steps in for the Royals. He’s grounded out a couple of times. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond. And this guy is at the top of the list on its way to the corner. Nobody can get there. And it’s a foul ball. Here comes the one. That’s out. swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. And you played behind guys and they loved having your speed out there defensively. One of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those elite defenders behind him. Fights it off. You’ll see another
The one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hitting wise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics. But the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. One down, base is empty.
That one inside. Three and two now. In the air, left field down the line. And that’s a foul ball. on the ground to short. Pertomo sends it to first. He made the pitcher earn that out after a long at bat. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it.
Two down, base is empty. Here’s the second baseman, Jonathan India. That one’s in there. 0 and one.
Looks like he sacrificed to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing. Some good hitters will do that. [Music] Two down, nobody on. And that is out of play. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And that one is downstairs now. One and two.
One ball, two strikes. The count. Had a breaking ball. Misses outside. That one missed. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. KC down in order. They still find themselves down six zip. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready for the bottom of the eighth. Here’s the cleanup hitter for the Diamondbacks. AU Heno Suarez. Fast ball for a strike at 95. You know, these Dbacks putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. The numbers help tell the story. I mean, they’ve been sitting fast ball and it’s paying off in a big way so far with six hits against that pitch alone and ball one.
And that’s a great way for a lineup to dominate a game because if a pitcher can’t rely on his fast ball to get outs, I mean, that puts a lot of pressure on the rest of his pitches to be effective. [Music] No, with the shift dunk pits right into it. Whit over to first. One gone in the bottom of the eighth.
Oh, we talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive.
And now the right fielder, Randall Gritic. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And now the count one and two after the swing in the miss.
One ball, two strikes. And down on strikes he goes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. A little bit of a questionable call on that fast ball right there. And appeared to miss off the outside just a little bit according to the electronic strike zone, but that’s the type of location where you kind of have to understand that it’s close enough to where you don’t want to put the fate of your bat in the hands of the umpire. He did and he got burned. Bla1 Alexander the next to hit. There’s the strike. Breaking ball misses down and away. Fly ball to right. Ray makes the catch and over now on the mount for the Diamondbacks. Anthony Dclani. Compared to some days, this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him. So, he should be fairly free and easy out there. Still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone. Bobby Wit Jr. steps in for the Royals. Bobby Wit Jun and first offering is fouled off. bounced up the middle for Domo and he’ll be safe at first. Did a nice job getting there. Good throw, but very difficult to get anybody on that one as far as you had to go and throw, you know. Yeah, no question.
Man at first. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals in the dirt. Up and in. And it’s two and 0. Action in the pen down there. Number 43 appears to be getting ready. And I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Woodford, the right-hander, loosening up as well. Ground ball right side could be two. Alexander over to second. Relay to first. Double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about bigers. They make tough plays. Look simple.
So, it’s their last chance in this one. Now, at the plate, Mikel Garcia. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. The Dbacks up big in this one here in the top of the ninth. Ground ball to short. This ought to do it.
Throw to first. Ball game and the Diamondbacks take this one in a blowout. Whether you’re a season ticket holder or you just come to a couple of games a year to see your team win at home, there’s just something special about that. Good job by this team to get it done for the hometown fans. 6 nothing is how this one ends for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
