MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 6, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
from one Blue Jays way in Toronto. Welcome to Rogers Center. We’ve got a perfect day for baseball. It’s the Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays. And now,
and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Toronto Blue Jays just about set to go now. And on the hill, the lefty number 56. Tell us about him in that sub3 ERA. Sing.
Well, anytime you can keep your ERA under three, you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well. And he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound. every time he gets the ball, you expect him to go out there and dominate. And that’s what he’s been to this point. We’ll see how he is today.
Ready to go now. And now Zack Neto splits the plate. And we are underway. That’s a little bit low. [Music] [Applause] [Music] That’s in there and the count one and two.
That slider breaking in can be a tricky pitch. If you don’t finish it and have that bite at the end and it stays out over the plate, it can get hit a long way. But that was a good one right there. [Applause] And that’s off the inside edge. And the count’s even at two. That one is upstairs. That one misses. So, a leadoff walk. Now, this was a story we were paying attention to before the game. We’ve seen him give up walks in the past and it’s an issue once again early on.
And next for the Angels, Nolan Showell. It immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Showell measures 6’4 in batting second in today’s lineup. A former first round pick in 2023. Highfly ball out into left center field. Lucas settles underneath it, calls it in, and there’s one away. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. They’re facing a pitcher today who’s prone to giving up homers, so we’ll see. We might get some big swings here today.
Yeah, I think the key though, and the reason why he gives up those homers is that guys are locking in. They’re aggressive, and they have a high confidence level. I think if that’s the approach these take with the stuff he’s got there on the mount. Yeah, there’s a good chance that there’ll be some balls that fly a long way. But you can’t get too big in your swing. Otherwise, you’ll be really frustrated after this one. Ruer takes off on the ground to the left, slings it across. No chance at the double play with the runner in motion. Batting fourth, left fielder Taylor Ward. And now it’s the Angels cleanup batter, Taylor Ward. Here’s a batter who for whatever reasons plays better on the road and that should help him here today.
First pitch misses. [Music] That’s down and in.
Well, no need to go right at this guy. First base is open. He can hurt you. So make him expand his zone. If he doesn’t, give him a walk. Ruer at second. Two down. Check swing and he went and it’s two and one now.
One strike. [Music] Man, it’s second.
Too high. And now it’s three and one.
Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitters count. Joe Adell in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That clips the corner. Neto on it second with two down. Headed towards the corner and that’ll do it. Angels stranded one and now the Blue Jays will get their initial shot. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now in Toronto. And on the hill, Kyle Hendris. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him.
Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpen mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one.
Andre Jimenez, the leadoff batter, as he swings through for strike one. Late swing, fouled to the left. The O2 rip towards third to first and a quick out number one. And let’s take a look at the lineup.
And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Come on, George. George Springer the next to hit. Takes outside.
One out. Base is empty. Next offering is downstairs. Just missed.
That’s good pitch there. clearly had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Music] Swing and a miss. And now it’s three and two. Well, as a hitter, you’re hoping that the command on that sinker doesn’t come until later in the ball game. But if that’s how it’s going to be all day, it’s going to be a tough one for the offense. [Music] He goes down looking. Wow, that’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long.
Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call. So hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can. Boette up to the dish and first offering is fouled off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] That clips the corner. [Music] And he grounds one back up the middle over to first and the Blue Jays go down. One, two, three. Nothing doing for the Blue Jays. We played an inning, no score. back here at Rogers Center. Second inning set to go. And now Joe Adele and a foul ball on the ground to short. Bette sends it to first. One up, one down. [Applause] Batting six, catcher Logan Ohappy. Here’s the Angels catcher, Logan Ohappy. He set a new career high in home runs this year. And Singi, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike.
No score here on the second. [Music] Strike two. James Kingsley, our played umpire, consistent and maybe a little generous on the edges.
Yeah, Boo. He’ll give a little bit on the edges like you said, but from what I’ve seen, he usually does that when a pitcher is just commanding those parts of the strike zone and essentially they’ve earned it. The umpire rolls with him.
That misses the zone. The countdown two and two. What about an umpire’s height? How much of a role does that play in your experience and what the strike zone is like? Yeah, I think it pushes the strike zone up a little bit, which you know, as a former hitter, you like that. You wanted the ball up. You didn’t want to have to deal with stuff down in the zone consistently.
Batting seven, third baseman, Luis,
one gone runner at first. Luis Rangifo, the next to hit for the Angels. Here goes the runner. That one to first steps on first for the owl. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubhouses where they have pictures of all four guys, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. That’s great.
Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. [Music] Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Man on second. Two down. Cut out and miss. Curve ball struck him out. So one hit is all they get. Down to the bottom of the second. No score. [Applause] And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the second. And now for the Jays. Addison Barer. Ber Hris back to work towards first tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. Lead off man retired here in the second. 95th hesitated hitter Davis Schneider. So up next for Toronto, Davis Schneider. Foul ball there. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] One down. Base is empty. And that’s fouled off. [Music] on the ground to first already two out here in the home half of inning number two. Batting six, left fielder Nathan Lucas. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. This lineup’s going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound. I mean, he is just mowing him down. He’s settling in. You got to make him uncomfortable. Maybe step out of the box, call timeout, do whatever it takes. Hit softly on the ground to third. Sends it across to first. Three up, three down, inning over. So they make short work of them there. We played two full. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. onto the third inning. And now the rookie second base number 17
trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. First pitch doesn’t find the zone.
10 [Music] ball that’s inside. And that’s outside. It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run.
Four pitches. That’s an easy walk, man. He could have walked me right there.
Wasn’t even close.
So the lineup flips over. Zack Neto the next to hit for the Angels worked to walk in his first trip to the plate. Step off, throw to first and he’s back in on a dive. Edge of the zone called a strike and it’s 0 and one, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was.
Next off is in for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an O2 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. [Applause] That one missed.
Really good take, especially with two strikes. [Music] Swings and misses. Struck him out. Well, when you commit to throwing an inside fast ball to your glove side across the strike zone, especially with two strikes, if you’re going to miss, you want to miss off the plate in. You do not want to leave it out over the heart of the plate. So, that was excellent execution on that pitch. Really tied him up and he couldn’t get a piece at all. Nolan Shanuel now at the plate. Fly to left his first time. down the line. It’s a base hit and they’ll have runners at the corners after a one out single. [Music] Oh, no. Waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing, he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. And now batting Mike Trout runner on the goal. Swing and a miss. Big pitch right here. He’s going to try to make a pitch. It’s going to produce a strike out or a ground ball double play. Top of the third, no score. and a swing and a miss. That K is his third of the game.
Certainly a strikeout situation right there. The infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. Really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. And next will be the cleanup hitter. Taylor Ward flyed to right his first time. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. late swing. Fouled off. Runners on first and third. Two away. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swing and a high-fly ball. That one out towards left center field. way back there onto the track and he makes the catch. So, no runs here in a base hit, no errors and one left. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. No score. [Applause] And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s going to be Ernie Clement. and Ernie Clement. And that’s downstairs and outside.
Well, these Blue Jays, as you probably noticed, haven’t been shy at the plate at all. In fact, they’ve probably been too aggressive at times. I’m specifically talking about the first pitch. These batters are swinging more than 80% of the time, which is fine if you’re scoring runs, but that hasn’t been the case today. There’s a strike. [Music] Grounds one to short. Needto throws to first. Leadoff hitter gone in the third. Batting eighth, first baseman, Will Wagner.
So up next, Will Wagner. Let’s go, Will. [Applause] And that drops in for a strike.
First pitch strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper. That’s in there. And it’s 0 and two. [Music] [Music] goes down swinging for the strike out. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Here’s the Toronto catcher, Tyler Heinaman. Base hit center field. So now back to the top of the order. Wastes no time there. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good.
Back to the leadoff spot in the Blue Jays lineup. Here’s Andre Himenez grounded out his first time off. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. a little out front there as he swings through it.
Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Hendrickx delivers. Fights it off. He’ll see another outside [Applause] low. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] Ground ball up the middle. Boots it and no shot to get him in first. There’s two aboard. I think he got a little casual on that play and took it for granted a little bit. So maybe just as much of a mental mistake as a physical one. And with two outs, that’s a tough one to swallow for the entire defense. And the batter is George Springer. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Line drive. Base hit. Runner at third. Puts on the brakes. Base is now loaded with two. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. That pretty much split the zone down the middle lane. Those are the ones where you got to make them pay. So bases all loaded up. Bobette next up for the Blue Jays. Grounded out his first time. Right through there for a strike. One’s count. So they’re all loaded up with two outs. [Applause] Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Reaches over the wall and he’s got it. So the Blue Jays strand three and we’re still knotted at zero. Back now in Toronto out of the fourth and now the center fielder Joe Adele on the ground out to short. Bette whips it to first. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. [Applause] Now batting catcher Logan Oh.
Here’s a big power threat. Logan O’Hap. One for one with a single so far. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. No one. [Music] [Applause] That one down the line and foul ball. [Music] That misses the zone. Two and two. Good eye right there upstairs. And that is ball four. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow.
Now batting third base Luis
go ahead run on base. So in now for the Angels Luis Rangifo runner on the goal swing and a miss throw and they got him. Such a quick and fast swing of emotions right there. You get the runner on with the walk, which is great, but then picks a bad pitch to go on and you just erase the free pass that you were issued. I understand you want to be aggressive. You want to try to get in the scoring position, but you just have to be a little smarter there. One [Applause] ripped into right field. Base hit. Now he’ll turn for second. The throw in and he’s out. Tut down and that ends the inning. Onto the bottom of the fourth now. Still with no score. Back here at Rogers Center ready to go. Bottom four. And now the Toronto cleanup hitter Addison Barger in the first pitch misses for ball one. Barer 25 years old and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2018. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike and it’s one and one. [Applause] checks his swing, appealed to third and he held back according to Larry Bullard. [Music] Missed with a change up. Three and one. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over first.
Now it’s the Toronto designated hitter, Davis Schneider [Applause] and a base hit on the line. And now a runner moves into scoring position as we look for the first run of the ball game. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. That’s about as textbook as it gets. Got his stride and load out of the way early. He stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front. Man, that was like he was in the cage hitting off a team. Now the left fielder, Nathan Lucas. He’s 0 for one. [Applause] In there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. He’s looking great so far. It helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Ground third headed for the plate now. A long throw home. He’ll score. The Blue Jays take the lead one- nothing. Well done. Drives in the run. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team back right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Here’s the third baseman, Ernie Clement. Grounded out his first time. Little bit low. And that’s ball one. 10. [Applause] in there at the knees.
Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Swing and a miss. Nice change up
knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ball double play opportunity here. You’ve got to lay off pitches down in the zone right there. Swinging at that pitch. That’s a no no in the dirt. That one just misses. Counts full. Three and two. He missed the zone, but I don’t think he missed his spot. That was a good pitch with two strikes. [Applause] Swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field. Brings it in. Runner tags at second and the throws off line. Safe at third. Good read there at second base to move up to third. Now it’s a lot easier to get that run in with one.
Wagner. Will Wagner next up for the Blue Jays. [Applause] And there’s the strike.
In this situation, the batter’s got to know what the pitcher is trying to do to him, and that’s trying to get him to hit the ball on the ground, get two for one. You got to look for something up in the zone, and worst case scenario, you deliver the sacrifice fly. [Applause] Ground ball right side could be two. Neto for one. What a double play that was. Inning over,
but the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Ready now for the fifth inning. And now the right fielder number 51 out to short Bette. tosses to first. One up, one down. Now batting number 17. Now it’s the second baseman looking for his first big league hit right here. And that drops in for a strike. Oh, one’s the count. And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] The next offering misses now. One and two. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. [Applause] two count.
Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the fifth. And now it’s three and two.
That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. and he walked four. Dolli has been in a very giving mood today.
Now batting short stop
back to the top of the Angels lineup. Zack Neto will hit next. A strike out and a walk. [Applause] Snap throw to first and he dives back in safely. Fast is outside. Next offering is in for a strike. Man at first, one away. [Music] And a count one and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Ground ball left side could be two to Jimenez and that’s two. Got the batter to hit it exactly where he wanted that textbook 643 double play gets out of the jam and back in the dugout. Bottom of the inning and the batter now Tyler
Heinman catcher Tyler Heinaman Hris back to work. Tap foul at the plate. [Music] [Applause] That one fouled off. Hendricks steals. Just misses the mark outside the zone. On the ground to third and that one handled. tosses to first and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth.
Good fade and sinking action of that change up got that hitter to roll over.
Andre Jimenez
back to the top of the lineup and stepping in is the speedy Andres Jimenez. Fast for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Line to second. Snagged on the bounce. Throws to first in time. Old half of the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs.
George Springer. Here’s George Springer. One for two. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. Ground ball left side and it goes just fouled.
He’s bagging. Give me that pitch one more time. A hanging change up just out in front.
Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases and he’ll pull into second safely. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Bobette gets a chance to hit. Go for two in this one. [Applause] Turned on but foul wide of third. comes up empty. That’s strike two. No, there’s a pitch we haven’t seen in a while. It’s going to be tough on the hitters if he can mix that in whenever he wants. But
a short stop takes a ball. That one not close and it’s two and two. Highf fly ball lifted into right field and that ends the inning. Blue Jays held in check, but they lead it one to nothing. Top of the sixth inning and now Nolan Shadow.
Nolan Shadow. [Applause] hit hard. Should be extra bases and now the tying run is into scoring position.
Well, that was an important at bat in this game. So, a great job there stepping up to the challenge. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Here’s Trout. Struck out on just three pitches last time. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 with the tying run at second. And we’re the top half of the six. [Applause] That one lifted to left. Lucas should have this one. And there’s one down. Taylor Wardielder Taylor Ward. breaking ball in there for a strike. That curve ball’s been a big pitch for him today. He’s been able to get ahead in the count with it. He’s also been able to use it to put guys away. Turn on, but that’s foul down the third baseline. [Music] Got him looking. They get four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, even if you don’t feel great about it, you got to swing the bat with two strikes in this situation. You’ve got the tying run out there in scoring position. Just put the ball in play. Maybe something good will happen. It just didn’t look like he understood the situation.
Here’s Joe Adel. Sliced hard but fouled. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Next pitch is downstairs. [Music] [Applause] Fought off foul. Shadow at second with two down. [Applause] And the one, two misses to even the count. [Music] [Applause] And there’s the ball.
That’s a really good take.
Logan O’Hap would be next. Big bat with a potentially huge opportunity. Two outs and one in scoring position. [Applause] So now two on and two outs.
Almost a coin flip for the umpire in that call, but most umpires just don’t want to give pitchers a break up in the zone like that.
Logan O’Hap the next to hit for the Angels. There’s the strike. I think that pitch surprised all of us. Right down the middle doesn’t get a swing. Not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that. And that one is inside ball one. [Music] [Applause] Paul, that’s it.
Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. the two-1 and that is out of play. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. [Applause] Gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Kicks and deals. [Applause] Swang at a line drive and that’s a base hit into right field. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He scores to tie it up to the plate and he’s out. They limit the damage here. A run on two hits and they leave one. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. All tied 1-1. Well, we go bottom six. Now it’s the right fielder Addison Barger fouled off left side. Well, these Jays simply put are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for out. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still fires to first and save. Couldn’t recover from the misplay. pretty much gifted a lead off base runner right there. And as an offense, this is where you really want to take advantage. Apply some pressure this inning. Make that error hurt. And next is the designated hitter Davis Schneider [Applause] on the ground is second. Might be two. And he can’t come up with it. still able to fire over and the throw is late. They couldn’t overcome the misplay. First and second, no outs. And here is Nathan Lucas. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. just missed. Go ahead run at second here in the bottom of the six. [Applause] And it’s one and one,
man. really sells the change up with that arm action. Action in the Angels bullpen. Sam Bachmann up and loosening in the pen. Burke, the lefty, warming up as well. [Applause] Swinging a miss since he was late. No outs. Runners at first and second. [Applause] off the mark there. It’s two and two. Way to lay off that pitch down [Applause] and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again [Applause] on the ground. Two ball off balance feed. There’s one relay to first double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish.
Ernie Clement And next for Toronto, Ernie Clemens. [Applause] That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. [Applause] Two outs on the ground to third. Throws across the diamond. And that is that. No runs on no hits. Two errors and one man left. We’re through six full. All tied 1-1. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Nick Sandlin.
Nick Sandlin. Luis Reano getting ready to base Luis Reho. swinging a foul out of play. You know, these Angels digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They’ve hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact. That’s almost always going to lead to positive results. Tap back up the middle. Jimenez gets it to first and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball.
Now it’s the switch hitting outfielder. Sandlin in his fourth year, 28 years old, and he was a second round pick back in 2018. And that’s fouled off. The one late that time. It’s strike two.
No balls, two strikes. One ball, two strikes. [Applause] Chopped out in front of the play. Slings to first and two away to start the seven. Here’s the second baseman. Toronto right through there for a strike. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Comes up empty.
Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. Misses outside now. One and two. Swigs through that one. It’s a strikeout. Angels go quietly there. Still tied 1-1. Now pitching for the
we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Brock
Burke Burke.
And they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with a lefty hitter coming up. I think that’s a good move. I know. I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. And now the first baseman Will Toronto first baseman Will Wagner. Ball one there [Applause] and a ground ball to first. Makes a sliding stop. Takes it himself and he got him. Nicely done at first for the out.
Catcher Tyler Heidman. Tyler Heinaman next up for the Blue Jays [Applause] and a foul ball. [Applause] All tied up here in the bottom of the seventh. to third. Can’t love glove it cleanly. Still manages a throw. Save. It was never going to be easy after the miss play. Now that in second,
well, you can’t give him two errors on that play, but that’s pretty much what it looked like. Tried to stay with it after the bobble and they might have pulled it off with a good throw, but it’s very easy to rush the throw when you don’t field it cleanly. A lot of times guys don’t have a good grip on it and I think that was the case right there. Andres Jimenez next up for the Blue Jays. 0 for three in this one. Swings through that one out in front that time.
0 and one. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. [Applause] And a slider in the outside corner for a strike and the next pitch is way outside. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. [Applause] Next offering misses down and away. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with the fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Got him swinging for the strikeout. Chase the fast ball up the ladder for strike three. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger.
And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. One left for Toronto. Score remains deadlocked at one. And we’re back ready to begin the eighth. Now here is Zack Neto. Sandlin back to work. That one way outside and it’s one and0. Well, a mistake right here could untie this ball game. If you’re the pitcher out there, you just want to be a little more cautious. Center field. Springer there makes the catch and there’s one down. Now batting first base.
Now the number two hitter Nolan Showwell. [Applause] Yeah, there’s the strike movement in the Blue Jays bullpen. Jeff Hoffman, the closer of the staff, is throwing. Little warming up as well. [Music] [Applause] [Music] In the air, left field down the line and that’ll get off into the seats. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. That misses. One and two. The count. stays alive. Foul ball still a one and two count. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was.
Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. Two gone now. Man, that slider bearing in on your hands like that, it’s just so tough to fight off. It’s kind of like a cutter. It just can eat you off, saw you off. Tell you what, hitters have nightmares about that pitch. Perfectly executed out there on the mound. And that one fouled off. Two out. Base is empty. This guy’s got a great seal for his breaking ball today. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Breaking ball misses down and away. [Music] Next offering down in the dirt and down on strikes he goes. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Angels held in check. Score remains tied 1-1. now pitching for.
So, the Angels turn to their bullpen for a new pitcher, Sam Bachman.
Sam Bachmann. 345 do up for the home team. And now Bobette. The shorts stop takes a ball. Bounced to third. [Music] Sends it to first and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth. Now batting right fielder Addison. Now the Toronto four hitter Addison Barger. That’s off the inside corner. One and0. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Close but called the ball. Two and0. Activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Connor Brogden appears to be getting loose. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike now. Two balls in a strike. A little frustrated with the strike zone that misses the zone. Three and one now. Davis Schneider in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] fouled off again and it remains three and two [Applause] [Music] and a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball.
That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things.
But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity.
Next to hit, Davis Schneider. One’s the count. Two down, nobody on here. Bottom half of the eighth inning. [Applause] Swanging a ground ball. Jump throw. They get the out and that’ll do it. Blue Jays go down in order. It’s the ninth and we are tied. Now fishing.
Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Jeff Hoffman.
Big swinging miss stuff right here, boo. Averaging more than one strikeout per inning this season. So far, he’s been pretty electric. Taylor Wool digs in now, 0 for three with two fly outs and a strikeout. [Applause] And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] Got a breaking ball. Misses outside. Pitch misses inside
and it’s two and one and fouled off up the middle and that chance handled. Tosses to first and they get the leadoff man in the ninth. Now batting center fielder Joe Adele. Here’s the center fielder Joe Adele. [Music] [Applause] Outside low and that is ball one. [Applause] [Music] That one missed. Still great.
All tied up near the top of the ninth. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Called strike right there. Nasty 20 slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. [Applause] Next offering misses. Three balls, two strikes. Logan O’Hap in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Ball four. He walked in and that keeps things going.
Oh, you know this guy wants to swing it, but he’s showing some good patience in this one. It’s the second time he’s taken ball four.
Go ahead run on base. Logan O’Hap the next to hit for the Angels. Outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their head.
Just missed. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. Barker ranging back towards the wall. Pulls it in on the warning track. Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. One for three. [Applause] Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Lucas sizing this one up. Squeezes it and that’s the third out. So no runs, no hits, no errors and one left. 678 scheduled to start the bottom of the ninth. All tied 1-1. Bottom of the ninth. Here’s the left fielder, Nathan Lucas. Clips the corner. And that is strike one. Action in the Angels bullpen. Kenley Jansen getting loose out there. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Applause] 0 and two now. Cold strike three on the fast ball and that ran back over the inner half. I’ll just rip the page out of the Greg Maddox playbook. Throw that pitch at the hip and just watch it jump back over the inside part of the plate. Tell you what, if you are baffled expecting that to almost hit you and then end up as a called strike. Now here is Ernie Clemen and one [Applause] late swing fouled off. [Music] [Applause] [Music] That one a little bit high and a count one and two. Well, clearly not too happy with the call there. Thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that’s not up. [Applause] And the slider just misses. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets.
Strike three and that’s two in a row.
No, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early. And a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Will Wagner now at the plate 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter trying to send this to extra innings. This one chopped on the ground but foul. [Applause] Swing and a little roller right side. Whips it to first. That’s the third out and we’re headed to extras. Nothing doing for the offense that time. Nine isn’t enough to decide a winner. So we are off to extra innings. All tied 1-1. on to extra innings. So in now for the Angels number 51 man at second, nobody out. And Chris certainly one of the things in his head is trying to get the runner over.
Yeah, the way that we see the game played today though, guys are not sacrificing as much just to get that runner across. They’re really looking at doing damage. Slugging is the name of the game. [Music] [Applause] Yeah, I think part of that goes into it’s just so hard to come up with hits in today’s game. Starters don’t go deep and so hitters are seeing multiple pitchers every night and that makes it more challenging just to come up with a single man at second. Swing and a miss
as he was out front that time. Got him swinging. It’s a strike out. Went back to the fast and it was effective. Bird gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. But with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So very difficult to get the barrel on it. Number 17 in the box now takes strike one. [Applause] swing and a miss as he was late that time. He’s falling behind in a huge spot, but we’ve got to do what it takes to come through. Maybe choke up on the bat a little bit, spread out those feet, whatever it takes. Foul ball still 0 and two, one out. The go-ahead run is at second. And now one and two. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz gasted right by him.
Nice work there to get the strike out. And that’s a big second out. I tell you, this whole crowd will be fired up. They can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. Here’s the shorts stop at the play. Zack Neto [Applause] bounding ball here. Rolls foul. [Applause] Jimenez throw the first. Angels retired. One, two, three. So, it’s no runs on no hits, no errors, and one left on base. On to the bottom of inning number 10. All tied 1-1. Now pitching for
new pitcher in the game for the Angels, Hunter Strickland. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers. So he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. And now for the Jays, Tyler Heinaman. Look for him to hit behind the runner, perhaps shoot it to the right side. [Applause] Way high. All one. No strike. [Applause] And that one a little below the knees. Ball two [Applause] right through there for a strike. [Music] [Applause] [Music] that just misses. They’re now three in one. Andre Jimenez in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Swinging in a high-fly ball down the right field line. He’s got it. Runner tags at second and he makes it up to third with one away. Up next for the Blue Jays. Second baseman Andre Jimenez.
Andres Jimenez next up for the Blue Jays. Well, first base open. Really no reason to pitch to this hitter right here. Put him on, have the force at second, first perhaps getting any ending double play
in there. for strike one. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play. [Applause] Swung on bolted out of here. [Applause] That one’s got to feel good. And the Blue Jays walk it off in extra innings. [Applause] [Applause] When you get to extra innings, it seems like every guy is trying to come up with the big swing to hit the homer and end the ball game. Well, he did it. Huge swing of the bat and we’re all headed home. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
