Ryan O’Hearn went from being DFA’d twice to starting the All Star game.

With the benefit of hindsight it sure would be nice to have O’Hearn and Rooker.
OHearn had -2.5 WAR in his 5 seasons with us. MJ Melendez has -1.2 WAR in his four seasons. Even if you remove OHearns worst season, -1.4 WAR in 2019, he is sitting at -1.1 WAR in his four “best” Royals seasons. OHearn is also 31 this year.
There was a reason we got rid of him
Gotta wonder where we’d be as a team right now if we’d pivoted in management/scouting/drafting philosophy a few years sooner.
Hats off
O’Hearn still stands out as the biggest indictment of our talent development staff here. He was the worst everyday player in baseball for 4 years with us, and then we released him and inside a month with the Orioles he’s raking. I don’t know that we have a problem with identifying talent, but we absolutely have a problem with developing it.
I’ve been curious about how you guys feel about his break out since it started.
How much blame do you feel goes to the development team? It almost makes you question others, like Bubba, and how much blame goes back to the organization instead of the player.
