  1. I think the criticisms of Kyle Pitts have more to do with faulty expectations than anything. Kyle Pitts was drafted so high because of his speed. I have seen no evidence that elite speed tight ends have elite careers. Of the elite speed receivers, the best has probably been Vernon Davis. At this stage of his career, Pitts is pretty much where Davis was with the exception of touchdowns. With that said, Davis' biggest competition for catches during his first 4 years was Frank Gore. I think the biggest problem with Kyle Pitts is that people saw his speed. They made assumptions that could not be justified by precedent. The result is he was drafted too high and people expected too much. I think he can be very effective, but if the expectations are based on where he was drafted, then people are setting themselves up for disappointment and setting Kyle Pitts up for failure.
