What is GOING ON With Dennis Schroder Sign-And-Trade? Is This WORTH it For Detroit Pistons?
It is July 7th and we still don’t have a resolution to the Dennis Shooter signing trade with the Sacramento Kings. In today’s episode, I’ll tell you guys why this probably isn’t even worth it for the Detroit Pistons. I’ll tell you guys what I mean. Today’s episode, Locked on Pistons podcast. Let’s go. In today’s episode, we’ll be discussing whether Duncan Robinson should start this season for the Detroit Pistons. And then later on, we’ll discuss whether the Pistons should have interest in Bradley Beal, who looks to be securing a buyout with the Phoenix Suns. Should the Pistons have any interest in going after the former star veteran? We’ll talk about that later as well. Um, but before we get started and start talking about this Dennis Shruder signing trade, which still hasn’t been resolved, want to let you guys know, make sure you guys head over to the Substack. I’ll link it down below. Subscribe over there. Make sure you guys check out the playback, subscribe over there. So, if you guys want to join me and just have some fun over there, w play some games and discuss Pistons, basketball, whatever, I’ll link the Twitch channel down below for you guys as well. But like I said earlier, July 7th and we still don’t have a resolution to the Dan Shruder trade. I’ve had a ton of people asking me what is going on. Is it happening? Is it not? What you know, just everyone’s confused. So again, for I feel like the third straight episode, I’m going have to do my best to describe exactly where we’re at and make sure I don’t leave out any details here. So a lot of the confusion is coming from some mixed reporting that has happened over the last few days. We’ve had some um quote unquote reporters tweet out that oh it’s done and then they delete it or hey it’s not happening and then they delete it and you know it’s been confusing a lot of people. So based on what I understand and I talked to somebody um two days ago, I talked to someone two or actually July 7th. So last morning so it’s technically still it’s only been a day but by you time you guys listen to it might be two days. Whatever. The morning of July 6th I talked with someone and I all I was told was talks are ongoing. That’s all I got. Talks are ongoing. Uh so the Pistons as of July 6th that’s when you could make things official. So that’s when the Pistons could have made this official. When the Kings could have made the signing official. The Kings could have went out on July 6th at 12:01 p.m. and said, “We’re signing Dann Shooter outright. We don’t want to do a sign trade anymore. We’re just going to sign him outright.” And they didn’t do that, which is the deadline that we talked about. I guess not technically a deadline, but that’s the time we talked about over the last few days that if something were to happen, you probably would like to see it happen before July 6th because once 121 hits, the Kings could just say, you know, we’re just going to sign them outright. They haven’t done that, which should let you know that the Kings and the Pistons seem to be exploring all opportunities or all options possible here. There’s no real rush, I would say, on the Pistons side, I don’t think, to make sure this sign trade happens as quick as possible. The Pistons seem to, and we’ll talk about this probably a little later, seem to have basically done their offseason. Like, there doesn’t seem to be much else coming for them. So, they don’t have any real rush to get this thing done. And according to reports, the Kings are at the very top of Jonathan Kaminga’s like interest list and they very much want him. And in order to get him, from my understanding is if they were to get Jon Kaminga from the Golden State Warriors, it will have to be a signing trade and they will have to offload Malik Monk somewhere. And that’s where the three team deal that we talked about a few days ago comes in with the Pistons. Now, it sounds like Jonathan Kamingle will spend the next week and a half meeting with teams at summer during summer league. So, we could be waiting for a while. We we could be waiting for a while with this resolution. Maybe the Kings move on from Kaminga and say, “Screw it. Let’s just get Shruder signing done. We’re not getting Kaminga.” Maybe Kaminga ends up going somewhere else and then the Kings like whatever, just we’ll just sign and trade um Shruder and get this thing over with. What the Pistons and Pistons fans really are waiting on are the Kings and whatever third team they want to get involved. The only reason why that it’s that a third team may get involved is to on two different re two different reasons. one for the Kings to get Jonathan Kaminga and then the Pistons help them by getting Malik Monk or if the Pistons want to get a third team involved to take on, you know, they can take on a different player for the salary that they’re sending out with Dennis Shruder, which I think is probably unlikely at this point. I don’t think that’s what’s going on. If I had to guess what’s going on, the Pistons are just sitting back waiting for the Kings to figure out what they want to do and if they can pull off Jonathan Kaminga. That’s where I think it’s probably going on right now. And the Pistons don’t feel like they’re in any rush. So, that’s where we’re at right now. Um, this is the part I I want I don’t know if this is even worth it to be honest. I I like this is the part I really want to talk about. This whole ordeal, this whole, you know, waiting on Shruder and and the signing trade, all this stuff, I don’t think this is even worth it for the Detroit Pistons. At the end of the day, I think it’s very likely that all of this is just some offseason boring, you know, you got nothing else to talk about, so we’re talking about this. Because the very likely, a very likely scenario is the Pistons take back a $14 million trade exception, which you say that immediately and you think to yourself, okay, well, that’s, you know, that’s not nothing. That that’s you can use a trade exception. Except teams don’t really use the trade exception, especially the Pistons. The Pistons, and this is courtesy of historian of history himself, uh, Keith Black Trudeau. We’ve in the pocket. You guys know he he knows everything. Um, the Pistons have created 17 trade exceptions the last 10 years. They’ve only used two. Last 10 years, they’ve created 17. They’ve only used two. And it’s not just the Pistons. These things don’t ever really get used. The Raptors created 16, they only used three. The Bucks created 17, they only used two. The Sixers created 17, they only used two. The Warriors created 21, they only used one. The best you can find is the Celtics who created 24 and they’ve only used six. So these trade exceptions, while they’re cool in their face and you can do all kinds of fun fake trades and you can go on Fan Spo, you can go on spot track and you can have some fun with it and see what you can do, they really don’t ever get used. And if you want to talk about trade exceptions that would be at least the amount that the Pistons are going to get, which is around 14 million, there’s been seven trade exceptions created with that much value. only one has ever been used. So, it’s not like the Pistons are taking back this trade exception with the idea of, okay, now we can go get this guy. My takeaway and my assumption is going to be that if they don’t get this three team deal done or the Kings don’t end up getting Kaminga and they offload to the Pistons. Also, another question we’ve gotten I will answer here. Another question we’ve gotten is why don’t the Pistons just take Malik Monk back? I don’t think they really want Malik Monk. I think that’s that’s the reason. That’s the best answer I can give you guys. If they can help facilitate a trade with the Kings, maybe they get a second round pick in return. Sounds like maybe they’d be down to do that, but if they’re just taking back Malik Monk, it doesn’t sound like they’re really that interested in Malik Monk. Doesn’t sound like they really want him to be honest. If they really wanted him, they could have been got him for a sign trade with just with the Kings. So, I’m assuming they just don’t really want him. Um, but back to my original point, it’s not like the Pistons are acquiring this trade exception. if they do because they have an idea of who else they want to go after. I’m going to assume that the real reason why they want that trade exception if they don’t get a player back is one so they can say they just didn’t get anything or nothing for them and two you save money. You don’t have to pay somebody like you you save money by taking on a trade exception and I think that probably will be the most likely scenario. You have a $14 million trade exception sitting there that that you don’t have to pay for. You don’t like you’re saving money by doing this. So that’s my assumption for why they would even be doing this. And at the end of the day, I would say that’s basically nothing for Pistons fans. To be honest, there’s nothing really to be concerned about. And I think there’s a very likely scenario that in a week from now, all of this was really for nothing and comes about nothing for the Pistons at the end of the day. If they get a trade exception, I would be shocked if they actually ended up using it. It looks like to me the Pistons pretty seem pretty confident with how their offseason has went and it seems like they’re pretty, you know, at ease where it stands. So, I think they’re probably closer to done than people think or want to think. And if they acquire a trade exception, I don’t know if that’s really changing anything. Anyways, so that’s where we’re at right now. Let me know what you guys think. How you guys feel about this whole sign and trade with Shruder? How is it going? You know what you guys want to happen? Would you guys want Malik Monk back? Are you guys interested in trade exception? Do you guys even care at this point? Let me know comment section down below or over on Twitter, Cuckahill. But Duncan Robinson was acquired this off seasonason by the Detroit Pistons in a signing trade with Simony Fontio. He is going to be signed to a three-year contract, which is really just a one-year contract. Only the first year is guaranteed. The second year is partially guaranteed and the third year is non-g guaranteed which again I know we’ve talked about this before on the podcast but going back to the first segment that’s part of the reason why the Pistons or I would say probably the biggest reason why they haven’t just taken Malik Monk back in general because he has a three-year contract and it seems like according to everything we’ve seen from Trajan is that he only wants to sign two-year contracts and he wants two years from now to be completely open. He doesn’t want any kind of any kind of long-term money on these books. He signed Tobias to a two-year deal. He signed Malik to a one-year deal. And it was rumored that Malik Beasley was going to be signed to a three-year deal that had a team option on a third year. So, basically would be a two-year deal. He signed or THA didn’t return. Uh he signed, like I said, Duncan Robson basically to a one-year, two-year deal. Caris Levert has been signed to a two-year deal. He doesn’t want to hand out any kind of long-term money. And maybe that’s because they’re planning for a big move in two years. Or maybe it’s really just because they’re playing for a SARS extension in two years. Could be that. Like it could be one of those things. We’ll see what it is. Um but that’s that’s where the Pistons it seems like their heads are at. But back to Duncan Robinson. He’s on basically a one-year deal partially guaranteed for the second year. Um so with that said, should the Detroit Pistons start Duncan Robinson this year? And if they were to start Duncan Robinson, the starting lineup probably would look like Cade, Assar, Duncan, Tobias, and Duran. Would they should they start Duncan Robinson? I think there’s an argument for both sides. I’ll start with the most likely option is no, he does not start. And why would he not start? Because the Pistons do need the movement shooting. They knew they do need that kind of gravity. They had it with THA. They have whe whatever you think about THA, they had the movement shooting and threat and gravity of him as a shooter, his quick shooting, his his quick shooting isn’t the right word. Quick um quick release, his his his confidence to just let it fly whenever he touches it that has a level of gravity for an offense. And without him now in the starting lineup, they’re not going to have that really. So, there’s an argument to be made for Duncan to start. We’ll make it later. But the most likely scenario is no, he does not start. Jay and Ivy will start and it will be Cade, Ivy, Assar, Tobias, and Duran. Why is that the case? Because they haven’t gotten any minutes with those guys. They they legit have gotten barely any minutes with Cade, Assar, uh Kadasar, Ivy, and Duran. And if you want to throw Tobias, and I know he’s not part of the young core, but that’s like the starting lineup. They haven’t gotten any minutes with those guys. And they have to figure out if they’re not going to make any big moves, if they’re not going to make any risque moves this off season, they need to find out can Cade Ivsarr and Duran play together and thrive. And again, the Pistons are now at a point in their they’re not in a rebuild no more. They are now in a whatever you what like a team building phase, whatever whatever the next stage of a rebuild is. Team construction, whatever you want to call it. That’s where they’re at right now. The Pistons are at a stage where just sustaining together is not good enough. They need to find out, can Cade, Assar, Ivy, and Duran thrive together? Are their best minutes with those guys on the floor? Are their best minutes are their best minutes when they have their young core on the floor together or do their best minutes come when one of them’s taking off for somebody else? And right now they just don’t have the sample size to make that decision, which is maybe probably the most likely scenario the Pistons aren’t going to make or most likely reason why the Pistons won’t make any kind of big move because they just don’t have the sample size to know whether they actually work or not. So they have to find that out. If Cade, Ivy, Assar, and Duran thrive and make each other better and the Pistons best lineup is when those guys are on the floor, then you know you have your young core of the future. You can feel confident about signing Ivy to a longer term deal. You can feel confident about signing Jaylen Darren to a longerterm deal and you can feel confident about you building this all from within. But they need that sample to find out. So I’m going to go ahead and say that I do not think that Duncan Robinson will start. Don’t think so. I think it’s more important at this point with the way the Pistons have attacked the offseason. If the Pistons attack the offseason from the like we got to take the next step, we’re we’re planning on taking this next step this season. That’s what this is about. Then maybe I feel a little different. But the way in which the Pistons have attacked this off seasonason really just screams we want more data about our young guys. We just want to let our young guys grow and whatever happens happens. We don’t care if we made the playoffs this past year. We don’t care if we won two playoff games. Our goal really isn’t to make it to the second round or try to make a big push in the playoffs. Our our motivation this offseason and this f upcoming season is to continue to get data on our young guys and wherever that takes us that takes us. That’s where that that’s what Traan’s words and actions suggest. So, with that being the case, it doesn’t make much sense to me to start Duncan Robinson. Start Ivy, Assar, Duran, and Kade together. Play them for like 30 plus games and figure out, do these guys work? Do they thrive together? Is this the best version of the Detroit Pistons when those four guys are on the floor? If so, you have a good data for the future. If not, a move probably is coming at the trade deadline. But here now, I’ll give the argument for why you would start Duncan Robinson. The the reason to start Duncan Robinson is Cade needs that movement shooter. Cade needs that shooter on the floor that can really make teams pay when they help hard at the nail, which we talked about this at last season, but if you don’t know what that means, and Malik Beasy talked about this, I believe after like game three of the regular season, he had to have this talk with Cade and you saw it develop throughout the season. When I say helping hard to the nail, it’s like let’s just for example, let’s say Cade is running a high pick and or a pick and roll at the left wing and he’s flowing to his right. He’s about to drive down the middle of the paint. The defender guarding the opposite wing, instead of being hugged up on that shooter, he is instead helping all the way into the paint, helping all the way into the high post area, taking away, digging down and trying to take away cage drive and really leaving that wing shooter open. Teams have done that a ton. 2K over the last few years because they just haven’t really respected the shooter that be left on the wing. When it was THA, when it was Malik, they were making them pay and you started to see those driving lanes open up because teams weren’t just so willing to leave a guy who hit 300 threes wide open to help that hard off of them. Now, without THA, without Malik Beasley on the floor, you’d assume that Cade would need someone like that that provides that type of gravity. So teams are not back to digging and helping that hard on the nail on every single one of his drives. Now the counter to that is Malik Beasley didn’t start. He just played a lot of minutes. So can Duncan come off the bench and play a lot of minutes and play the role of Malik? 100%. 100%. But then the other argument would be will Ivy demand the type of attention that THA does? Because while Ivy shot I know that this will be the quickest thing people say Ivy shot higher percentage than THA in his 30 in his 30 games. He’s a better shooter than THA. THA took tougher shots. THA had a lot quicker, a lot quicker of a trigger. And teams simply are more Maybe this changes this year. It could it could happen, but teams are simply more afraid of THJ letting it fly from deep because of his longtime um res the respect they’ve had of THJ for such a long time as a shooter. teams are not as willing to just help off of him. Whereas they’re more willing to help off of an Ivy, obviously help off of an NAR, you know, whatever, a Ron Holland. Now, if Ivy shoots as well as he did this past year, he’ll make them pay. He He’ll make them pay if he shoots as well as he did this past season uh from beyond the arc, and that will be great. But still, will the Pistons be able to run the same kind of movement actions that they were running? Would they still be able to run these flare actions where, you know, these guard on guard flare actions, which is, you saw it a lot this past year where Kade would run a pick and roll or really a ball screen with Malik Beasley or a THJ and instead of them accidentally sitting there and taking the screen, they would come up to set the screen, fake it, go screen, and flare out to the opposite side of the wing. And that defender would then have to pick between two options. Either I’m leaving immediately, go take that three-point shooter, and now Kade has a head of steam going to the basket with an advantage, or I try to tag on Kate a little bit before I get back to the shooter, and now that gives Kade just enough time to get the the shot to THJ or the pass to TJ or Malik Beasley. They ran those actions a ton. Do they run it with Ivy? Maybe. So, maybe they do. But running it with Duncan Robinson will be extremely effective. I think it would be extremely effective. the point. At the end of the day though, starting Duncan Robinson, you can make an argument would be better to win right now and and maybe better to to what’s the right word here to elevate the floor of Cade immediately because Cade does operate the best when he has optimal spacing on the floor and a guy like Duncan Robinson on the floor. So, you can make your argument that yeah, if you start Duncan Robinson in the starting lineup, that’s a move to win right now and to elevate Kade immediately. But is that one is that really the the the the point of view or the the the the main objective of the Pistons right now? One. Two, you have to see if maybe Ivy can do that. You have to see it. And three, you have to see if these guys fit together and can play together. And all of that supersedes whatever the argument for a win now starter move with Duncan in the starting lineup. And if Ivy can, you know, replicate the movement shooting of THJ, maybe Ivy comes in and he’s able to run these down screens, come off pin downs and hit threes, run around some screens and hit threes off of those, run these flare actions and hit threes off of those. Maybe he’s developed all that. He’s able to do it. And now this, there’s no need to even talk about getting some shooters into the lineup. And also, like I mentioned earlier, Malik didn’t start and they still found a way to get him a ton of minutes with Cade. I’m sure JB will do the same thing with Duncan. They will find a way even though he won’t start. They will find a way to get him a ton of minutes with Cade, which will be incredibly smart and they definitely should do and I believe they will do. So, no, I don’t think Duncan’s going to start. Don’t think he should start. Um, but they will find a way to get him a ton of minutes with Cade because it just makes sense to do so. So, let me know comment section down below or over on Twitter, Cuckahill. Should the Pistons consider starting Duncan Robinson next to Cade? Let me know comment section down below or over on Twitter, Cukao. Coming up, should the Detroit Pistons be interested in acquiring Bradley Beal? He was a lot better this past season than a lot of you guys think. And if it’s for a cheaper option, don’t think it’s the worst idea. We’ll talk about it coming up. So, I want to thank you guys again. Make locked on Pistons your first listen every single day. We’re free a podcast platforms. If you haven’t already, head to the YouTube channel, locked on pistons. Um, all right. So Bradley Beal, it sounds like, is going to be signing or not signing, but coming to an agreement on a buyout with the Phoenix Suns, which let me just say this, the buyouts that are going on with like Dame and now Bradley Beal, these teams are really going to regret it in five years. I know Matt Ishbia has kind of made it clear that he just doesn’t care about anything past the immediate season. Matt Ishbia strikes me as a guy that just doesn’t think about the next day. Only thinks about today, doesn’t care about tomorrow, you only live once, live it to the fullest, like that kind of thing. Um, but ext wave and stretching Bradley Bill for five years. I mean, that sounds insane to me. And then even the Bucks waving and stretching Dame, you’re gonna have that what is it$22.5 million dead cap hit for the next three years? Like, I don’t know. Like I I I don’t know about that. Like maybe just and you didn’t you this isn’t locked on Bucks, not locked on Suns, so I won’t dive into it, but I think it’s pretty crazy what these teams are doing, but it sounds like Bradley Beal will come to an a buyout agreement with the Suns. So now a lot of people are are asking, should the Pistons be interested in Bradley Beal? Well, right off the top, Bradley Beal is not coming to the Pistons. He’s going to go to LA. He’s going to go to one of these contending teams. He’s not going to spend age 31, 32 season with the Detroit Pistons. It’s not going to happen. He’s going to go somewhere that he can win. He’s going to go somewhere um where he’s playing important basketball deep into June. Um that or at least believes he will be playing deep or important basketball deep into June. Um so I don’t think he’s going to even consider the Pistons. Should the Pistons consider him though? I think they should. I I think he would be a really good pickup. Bradley Beal has suffered from what a lot of athletes suffer from, which I really don’t like. I’ I’ve ranted about this before, but I really dislike this that how this happens to athletes, but I get it. Is that when a good player gets overpaid, everyone then acts like said player is bad because he’s not worth the contract. So, was Riley Beal worth the $60 million he was getting paid? Absolutely not. Was he worth having a no trade clause on his contract? Washington, what what are you doing? Like that much money and a no trade clause to Bradley? Like what are you doing? Was he worth that? No, he’s not worth that. Is Bradley Beal bad? He’s not. He is still a good player. And because of the contract, because of how that was weighing down the the the Phoenix Suns because he wasn’t worth that contract for the Phoenix Suns and therefore he became enemy number one, which is understandable. and now they can’t upgrade the rest of the team because he’s worth that much and he’s not holding up that much of the money on of the bargain. He became enemy number one this past season and a lot of the discussions around him is that he just wasn’t a good basketball player. Bradley Beal is still a really good basketball player this past year. 17 points per game, 50% from the field, 39% from deep. He shot 56% on twos and had a very efficient season. 59.8 true shooting percentage. He still is a very good shot creator. He is still a very good shot maker. He is a still a very good um secondary scorer, someone you can trust to go get a bucket. He is a very efficient scorer. He’s able to do those things. He’s still able to do that. And he was doing that as a third option, maybe even worse than a third option because he started to come off the bench at one point. Um but he was doing that next to Devin Booker and Katie. It wasn’t like he was the lead option or anything. And he still remained very efficient. he was able to scale down and be very efficient in that role. The one thing the Pistons need I think if and I don’t know I don’t think they’re going to try to acquire this. I think they might be done. But the one thing I believe this team needs or I guess one of two things. They still need a four, but they need a legit shot creator. I’ve said this over and over. They’ve had guy they the Pistons are one of the worst isolation teams in the NBA. They don’t really have a guy you just give the ball to and say, “Go give us a bucket. Destroy this mismatch.” Kade is the best option with that. And that’s not really Cade’s game. Kade likes to run pick and rolls. Kade likes to get down to the post. And I guess that you can call that an iso post. So, I get that. But he’s not really that type of player where you’re giving him the ball at the top of the key and say go get a bucket. That’s not really how he likes to play. And that’s fine. He doesn’t need to play like you’d like him to get a little better with that. But that’s just not really how Cade likes to play. They don’t have anyone that really does that on this team. They need someone who can just go get a bucket and is a good shot creator. Barely Beal can do that. And if you were able to get Bradley Bill for the MLE for less than the MLE, he would be a bargain of a deal. If he’s worth $60 million, you stay the hell away from him. He’s not that good. You don’t want anything to do with him at that point. But if he’s worth the or less, he is still a very good player. He is still a really good player in the NBA. He is a very efficient scorer and I think he would address one of the Pistons biggest needs that they have, which is someone who can go out and get a bucket. So the Pistons should have interest in him. They should make a call to his agent and be like, “Hey, how does he feel about Detroit?” They’ll probably say, “Nah, we’re good.” And that’s fine. But Bradley Beal is still a good player, especially if you give him a cheaper deal, which is what’s going to happen now in the buyout market. And I think he would really help the Pistons. So, if if there was any world when he would entertain coming to the Pistons, I definitely would be interested, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I don’t think it’s even worth talking about. That’s why I put in the third segment. It wasn’t worth talking about more than five, six minutes. Um, but it’s a cool interesting idea because I do think he actually would solve things. And if he had any interest in coming to the Pistons, I think it would be a good move by them. But that’s that’s the other reason why I really like Malik Monk for this team. They just need somebody that can just go get a bucket and can score. Like that’s what they need. Not a guy that scores off just pick and rolls. Not a guy that just scores off of offball gravity. They need a guy that you can put the ball in their hands and say, “Hey, you got a mismatch. We need you to go score this.” And that’s why I like Malik Monk and that’s why I would like Bradley Beal on a good contract. So, um, but that’s probably not going to happen. At first, I was hard on Trajan cause I’m looking at other East teams make solid moves to improve their team. Our Core 4 has to play together. Malik hurt us but we recovered. I just want us to get something for Schroder.
Prime healthy motivated Beal?
Hell yeah!
2025 Beal?
Aww hell naw!
The problem with losing schroder isn't because he is a killer player, though he is good. It is because there is no other PG other than Cade. Ivey isn't one nor is sassar and no one we have picked up this year is a great ball handler.
I’m so tired of the “giving Cade optimal spacing” argument and then saying to replace Ivey, if you really want Cade to have to spacing to operate you need to replace Duren with a stretch big and it’s that simple
I don't think Duncan should start but I do believe he's the first one off the bench for Ivey
Trade exception will/may use at trade deadline
Duncan is one of the worst defenders in the league he cannot start on any team
Appreciate you, Ku– good look on a Monday
All you need to look at is shooting. I don't see how your starting 5 can space the floor that the whole idea is to give Cade some ROOM on the floor. so lets just go back and do stupid again and again. Arrrg Yea CADE does need a shooter
Here comes the hate for Ivey and AT is the one can’t shoot out him on the bench Ivey is the most important player need to shine
Summer 2026-27
Is our off-season approach any different? I also am skeptical of flashy moves and relish the process of player development,
so we need a bigger sample of How 's "improved" shooting, we need too see Cade reduce turnovers, Other Brother has too find a shot and improve ball handling…….
……could you breakdown our under-25 player development? For YEARS we bank on this– does the data support its success?
The Regime that shall not be named, had the same approach, is it working?
Ivey IS our starter, in fact he is our 2nd option at offense. It’s a no brainer
Cade putting the 3-ball in his bag is going to be crucial in the team's development as well.
most stressful game of cat and mouse
Why would the Pistons not want Monk? If they want to help Cade, then surround him with more talent. The Pistons don’t want to sign big time free agents or do big trades. They don’t even want to make mid-level trades like Schroeder for Monk. All they want to do is draft and develop and sign mid-level free agents to 1-2 year deals. I don’t think that is enough to win a championship, it may be enough to make the playoffs and perhaps win a round or two and that’s it.
I think the vision is still trying to see a good amount of games of the core players. And this season is the last season to do that without compromise more cap going foward…
How is it even a question to start Duncan over Ivey, only way we start Duncan is if we move Ausar to the 4 and start Duncan over Tobias which I doubt we do
Never get GS involved anything
Duncan & Beasley are on a different level as shooters. They get face guarded a lot of the time and genuinely create more space. I don't think we can really group Hardaway with them. He doesn't get guarded like that
But I think the big difference with Ivey vs THJ is that when you run actions for Ivey he can shoot, dribble or playmake. I think a lot THJ's actions will be more dangerous with Ivey for that reason
Even as a pure stationary spacer I don't think he'll be guarded any differently. Teams dont hug up on THJ because they know he's not driving past them and that, though he gets hot, he's usually a good shooter (~36%) not a great one (~40% +) so they can help and recover
Ivey needs to make shots still but his athleticism means he will always get dare shots to some degree. Like a lesser version of Ant. As well as Edwards shot teams still gave him jumpers because his penetration compromises their defensive shell. They don't want to close out too hard to those guys
****
But how much teams help off you is four-fold:
1) how afraid of your shooting are they?
2) how afraid of you attacking downhill are they?
3) how afraid of your cutting/finishing are they?
4) are you the least bad option?
It's not JUST shooting
I didn't expect big moves this offseason, but this roster isn't complete yet. At the very least, a competent forward is needed.
🤔 Seems like more Ivey slander to me per usual
I wouldn't totally hate Getting Bradley on a Vet min bc then you wouldn't feel so bad when he's sitting on a bench with one of his many injuries
The sign and trade is not happening.

I don't think the Pistons can create the cap space to offer Beal the full MLE.
But if we xan, it's still a mistake because it qdds yet another SG to a team desperate for a PF
PISTONS JUST MEDIOCRITY NO REALISTIC TRADES OR FREE AGENCIES SIGNED. THE MANAGEMENT OF HOUSTON ROCKETS 🚀 DID GREAT AND ORLANDO MAJIC DETROIT PISTONS ARE LIMITED TO TALENTED ATTEMPTS TO MAKE IMPACT PLAYERS SIGNED
I’d try to get Kelly O back. Go get Saddiq Bey back. Bring back Killian Hayes. We’d be deep like IND & OKC. New super team style. Stack the deck.
This whole time I’ve been wondering why we even need Monk especially after acquiring Lavert & Robinson tbh
