Breaking: Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero has agreed to a five-year maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $287 million, Mike Miller of LIFT Sports Management tells ESPN. Deal includes a player option; the first for a rookie max since 2021 (Luka Doncic, Trae Young).

    Edit 2: So Rose Rule doesn’t apply to All-Defense apparently. Not sure about fun max, but First Team All-Defense Year 2 at 22 while not being a full-time starter is definitely gonna warrant a normal max assuming no major decline.

  9. Wow, Paolo getting a player option is noteworthy.

    The past few years of maxed rookies have NOT included player options despite involving players with as much if not more cache than Paolo (e.g. Ant took the straight 5-year max).

    Then as soon as we left this news broke. 

    So I can confidently say we convinced him to sign long term in Orlando

  32. Banchero and Franz Wagner deserved the money they got, are they a contender last year? No, but they manage to revive the image of Orlando Magic, they haven’t been relevant since Dwight Howard.
