2025 Buffalo Sabres Development Camp Wrap Up
Well, development camp has wrapped up for this 2025 group of Buffalo Sabres prospects and we are now chatting with Rochester Americans head coach Michael Leone who may over time see quite a few of these players. Leo, I think it’s a lot of future assets right now, but still a fun camp nonetheless. Yeah, it was great. It was uh really good to see some of the prospects and uh over the course of the year some guys made huge strides. Uh there’s a couple guys that are are close. Um but it was a really good camp. It was good to see the guys again and I thought our development staff did a great job organizing everything and uh from the dayto day to see the city of Buffalo and what the organization is all about. So uh I really enjoyed it. I think development camp is always exciting for a couple of reasons, especially time of year because July 1 hits, it’s free agency time. Man, did the Rochester Americans clean up. And we’ll talk about some of the new additions, but first Leo, I mean, you have basically your entire team back. ton of question marks at the end of a season as there always are in hockey. How excited are you to know that the group is back? Yeah, man. That’s probably why I’m smiling. Uh I thought we’d get a lot of guys back just I mean it really speaks to Rochester and the organization of guys really wanted to be here and anytime you know you get five out of 60 back in the American League hockey organization is is incredible and all the all the the ings from, you know, Warog, Slacks, Feedler, Schultz, Yash. I mean, you you don’t have I think we got 15 out of our 21 everyday guys back, which is pretty incredible. And um yeah, I’m just really excited because I I have great relationships with those guys. I was really happy they all came back. it was recruiting as well after the end of the season and um uh we batted pretty close to a hundred. So I’m really excited. How excited are you about some of these new potential additions. Again, we don’t know what’s going to happen out of Buffalo Sabres training camp, but uh you know, you have Zack Jones, you have uh Gearson coming in, Carson Meyer, who had a near point per game season when he was healthy in San Diego. Um what what is the I guess thought process when you see these new names? I I think first is um I think our organization did a great job of identifying character individuals first and you know the the homework that we did on all three players. I think we wanted to get tougher and obviously sure a lot of people in the organization fans have been looking up the fights uh for sure but he’s a great teammate. I I received a few texts when we signed him just what a great guy he is and uh selflessie played with him and then Jones is a elite you know spent last two seasons of the NHL. Um really good offensive defenseman can run a power play. Um, you know, Dan Muse, uh, who’s now the coach at Pittsburgh had him and, uh, the Rangers said he’s a fantastic person, works really hard. And then Carson Meyer, same thing. Dunner played with him. So, um, you know, Dunner said great things about him as a person, as a player, and what he brings to our group. So, we’re really excited. I think everybody should be excited. The Rochester Americans look like they will have a very good chance of running it back and continuing uh the standard that has been set over the last several seasons, including year two under Michael Leone.
