MLB LIVE🔴 Cincinnati Reds vs Miami Marlins – Jul 7, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
from Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. A great night for baseball ahead on the show. It’s the Miami Marlins going up against the Cincinnati Reds. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. just about ready to go. And today’s starter, Nick Leolo. Chris, how about a scouting report? Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. Fast in for a strike. And that’s how this game gets started. Now, a drag bun third base side. Bare hand grab. It’s there. And that’s a great play. And time now for the Marlins lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus. Otto Lopez. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Jesus Sanchez stands in now and watches strike one. Leo in his fourth year, he features a fourseam fast ball, a slur, a change up, and he works in a sinker. Pitch misses there. Going to count one and two. That one missed. Two balls, two strikes. Still two and two after the foul ball. The pitch. That one ripped. can’t get to it as it drops into the corner and that’s a double. Got to love the resiliency shown in that bat. Battling with two strikes. Put a very nice swing on that pitch right there. Got one to drive and just kept it fair down that right field line and into the corner. And it’s almost impossible to track those down as an outfielder. Otto Lopez the next up for the Marlins. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. Sanchez leads off second with one gone in the inning. That one fouled off. [Applause] Nick that misses ball one. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Next offering is down low. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Gets a piece and stays alive. man at second and that’s outside. Full count. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. Goes down looking. Most guys are very aggressive when they see the stakes out there on the base bats and can’t understand why he wasn’t ready to swing the bat. You’ve got to be ready to swing the bat in a situation like that with the go-ahead run in scoring position. And here is Augustine Ramirez. And that is in for a strike 0 and one. [Applause] Two outs and that is out of play. Bow and chew now. Fast ball is outside. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Popped up to the left into foul ground. makes the grab and that’ll do it. Marlins leave one and now the Reds will get their first opportunity. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Great American Ballpark and on the hill, Tyler Phillips. What do we have on him? Well, you can see his whip is a little above the league average. Not bad, but I think in this one he’s going to need to control that a little bit better. Try to limit hitters from getting on base. Stay in that windup instead of the stretch. And when he does allow base runners, be able to throw a pitch, he’s going to get a swinging miss, get out of the inning so that a base hit doesn’t do more damage and put his team behind the eightball. Matt Mlan leading things off and takes a strike. They had a foul ball [Music] [Music] in the air out towards left center. Ramirez pulls it down and there’s one down. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. And the challenge for this lineup today, Sing finding a way to have success against the sinker ball. Yeah, it’s a tough pitch to hit Boo and even harder to elevate. Got to set your sights a little bit higher when you’re at the dish. They’re struggling with it. I’d expect them to make some type of adjustment. It won’t take long to see how well that sinker is working today. Come on, Santiago. Santiago Espino the next to hit. Takes ball one. One out. Base is empty. He swings and fouls one off. The one-1 is fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That one in the dirt and the C is two and two. And that skips in the dirt. Full count. [Music] And that one hammered back there and it’s gone. He’ll circle the bases and that gives him a lead. It’s one- nothing. Chris, we knew this moment was coming for him soon. Yep. And it finally came. We knew it was only a matter of time before he was going to connect with one just like that. Just too good of a hitter at the plate. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. [Applause] Stepping in Ellie Dea Cruz. He’s someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching. The lefties, however, give him a little bit more trouble. [Applause] One down, base is empty. Outside with a breaking ball. Part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Nice curve ball for a strike. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. Two ball. Two strikes. Ripped on the ground to second. Throws to first in time. Batty fourth. Left fielder Austin Hayes. And now it’s Austin Hayes. He’s been a great free agent sign. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. No ball. One strike. Ball one. One. One. That one ripped left field and it’s off the out of town scoreboard. throws to second and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. And we’re back. And now the DH Kyle Stard. He set a new career high in home runs this year. and Siggy, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now. Ledo back to work. Strike on the inside corner. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. a little out front there as he swings through it. Woody Keller making the calls behind home for us today. And Boo, something to keep an eye on is how pitchers utilize the top part of the strike zone. We see a lot more of that in today’s game with pitchers going up there with hard stuff. Keller definitely an umpire that isn’t afraid to call strikes up in that part of the strike zone. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Eric Wagaman. And that one fouled off. [Music] One down, base is empty. And a foul ball and takes low for ball one. strike three and that’s two in a row. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Now at the plate, Liam Hicks. Two out. Space is empty. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] And there’s a ball. Well, he missed badly with that O2 fast. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Check swing. Now an appeal to third. Nope, he held back. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. And he strikes out the side here in the second. Impeccable command in that one. Three batters, three strikeouts. That’s electric stuff out there on the mound. Bottom of the inning. And now the first baseman. Spencer Ste. Spitzer steer swing and a miss. Strike one. 01. [Music] Next offering is fouled back. Foul ball still 0 and2. [Music] Swing and a miss. Curve ball in the dirt and it beats it for the first out after the drop. Third strike. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I call it a power curve ball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. And first off is fouled off. checking on an 02 appeal to first and Ed Drummond right on it says he held up this one popped off Wagaman and it’s caught for the out. Batting seven, catcher Jose Trovinho. Here’s Jose Trovinho. This guy one of the best defensive catchers going. You talk about framing the ability to block, catch, and throw. He is at the top of the game. Swing and a ground ball. And that one gets through into center field. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. [Applause] And now designated hitter, really good athlete. And many times you talk about, you know, the feet of infielders. This catcher as well, really quick feet. He’s able to recognize the pitch, see the trajectory, and get into a spot where he can block those balls and keep them from going to the back stop. on the ground to the left Sanchez and that is the inning. So no runs here on a base hit, no errors and one left. We head on now to the top of the third. It’s the Reds one and the Marlins nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the right fielder Ders. Cincinnati. Really impressive with the way he frames, the way that he sets it up because sometimes those pitches are off the plate, but because he sets up and presents it so well, he still strikes for his pitcher. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. He’s got it. And a quick out number one. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Javier Senoha stands in here, takes ball one low. That one close rule to ball and the count is 2 and0. And that’s outside. There’s a strike. Fouled off down the right side. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. Swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can forget it. And that should quiet this home crowd. It’s 1-1. He ran the count full and saved his best swing for last. That was a battle and he won. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. So the lineup flips over and now it’s the switching second baseman Xavier Edwards. That’s to third. [Applause] Marte with a throw to first and that is out number two. [Applause] Now the third baseman, Jesus Sanchez doubled in his first AB [Applause] in there and it’s 0 and one. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swings through that. Ahead 02 in the count. Sure, you got four pitches you can work with, but throw something you can command and get this at bat over with as quickly as possible. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. One for the Marlins on the solo shot. Call even now at 1-1. You’re dialed into the show. Back here in Cincinnati. Now it’s the right fielder, Will Benson. Will Benson. First pitch is ender. [Music] There’s the strike. One ball, one strike. Cut on and lifted in the air. Ramirez in position and out number one on the grab. Up next for the Reds, second base Matt Mlan the next to hit for the Reds. Here we go. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball. No strike. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. And another ball. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Tied up here in the early going. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Swinging at ball four. That was off the outside edge. It’s a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can’t really do much damage, but it’s close enough to where you got to protect and he just couldn’t find a way to fight it off. And now the center fielder, Santiago Espino outside. Foul ball there. That one the other way and foul ball. Fouls it off. Still one and two. To third. Sanchez fires over to first and the inning is over. Offense held in check there. On to inning number four. All tied 1-1. Back here at Great American Ballpark. John Shi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Otto Lopez. All right, that one in 95 missed up top and that is ball one. You know these Marlins showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. These days, most outfielders play pretty deep, and I’m not sure if that was a factor there or not, but off the bat, you’re thinking it’s going to be a pop out. And it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. And now for the Marlins. Augustine Ramirez. Basketball for a strike. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Ruer at first with no outs here. [Applause] Step off throw to first. Lopez back on a dive and one on the ground. Two ball. The throw to second is offline. Now batting designated. This offense just got a major gift. Probably should have been a double play, but it all starts with a good feed to second. And right there, everything broke down on the throw. We’ll see if they can capitalize on this. Go ahead run on base. Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins. Fought off foul. Lopez the lead runner out at second. Ramirez at first with no outs. That one hooked foul [Music] [Applause] two. CA strikes him out for the second time today. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. You got three straight fast balls looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. So, up next, Eric Wagaman went down on strikes his first time through. That one’s in there. 0 and one. One out. Runners at first and second. [Applause] Late with the swing there. Down on strikes looking for the second straight plate appearance. Well, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position and two strikes. Just put the ball into place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. And here’s the catcher, Liam Hicks. His first at bat was a strikeout. Ball one, no strikes. fast ball is outside. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. First and second, two down. Top half of inning number four. [Applause] Check swing. He went and it counts at the two. BS another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Was in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly he’s happy with those results. And we’re back. Bottom of the fourth. And now the short stop Ellie de la Cruz Cruz. So, here’s a fun note on Ellie. He became the youngest player in high a ball to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game. And it gets better. He did it again two games later. Those are the type of games that tend to get you promoted in the minors. [Music] Next one misses two and one. 2-1. [Music] This one chopped on the ground but fouled. [Music] Swing and a ball popped in the air. Wagamovan under it calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting left fielder Austin Hayes. Now the left fielder Austin Hayes. Hayes in his sixth season, 29 years old, and he was a third round pick back in 2016. Swaming a ground ball, base hit right field. So, a man aboard now with one away. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Spencer Steer the next to hit for the Reds. He’s 0 for one. Little chopper rolls. Foul [Music] on the ground. Lopez off Ellen’s feet. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. Here’s the third baseman, Noel V. Marte. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Let’s [Music] go. Next offering is outside. [Applause] [Music] Here’s the pitch. Run around to go. Strike in there. Save. [Applause] [Music] Man on second, two down. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. [Applause] One, two now. Misses with Alar. Two balls. Two strikes. Two two down. Jose Trevinho in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two outs and one in scoring position. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Drops into the glove and that is the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors and a man left. We’re headed to the fifth. All tied 1-1. And welcome back to the ballpark. New inning getting started. And at the plate for Miami, Dane Meyers, Lollo back to work. Swinging a ground ball and that’s just fouled. You know, these Marlins looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on, but it just hasn’t happened for them yet. They’ve had their chances with runners in scoring position, but nobody’s been able to deliver a big hit in those situations on the ground to third. Marte one away here in the fifth. And you got to give some credit to the other side as well. They’ve been able to get out of a few tough jams, but frustration is mount for this offense. No doubt. Here’s the left fielder, Javier Senoha. He’s already homerred in this game. Swinging a foul out of play. Well, on the mound, very efficient, able to produce an outcome, it seems like, within the third or fourth pitch of just about every at bat. Down the left field line, base hit. And now the lineup turns over with one away. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he met it out front for the line drive knock. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Back to the top of the Miami order. And now Xavier Edwards for two in this one. Step off. Throw to first. Dives back out. I think the base runner was trying to catch him off guard perhaps looking to steal right away and wasn’t ready to get back to first. Nice pickoff move by the pitcher. Fast for a strike. Yo one foul ball [Music] Dela Cruz to first and that’s the third out and the Marlins down quietly. Score remains tied 1-1. New pitcher for the Marlins, Jansen Junk. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So these batters better be ready to swing the bats. Here’s the catcher, Jose Trebinho. One for one with a single so far. And there’s the strike. Activity in the bullpen. Sandy Alcantara getting ready to go. [Music] [Music] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. [Music] Good job to fight that one off. That’s off the mark. One and two to count. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. Stays alive. The next pitch misses and the count now even up. Line drive. Meyers makes the catch for the and there’s one down. Now batting next to Reese Hines for one so far. You can do it. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. No ball. All tied up. Last half of inning number five. And that’s in for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And that one upstairs. Ball one. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. Back to right. Meyers under this one. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s two away. Up next for the Reds. Right. Will Benson the next to hit for the Reds. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. Cincinnati. just missed. That catches the top part of the zone and the count one and one on the ground to third. The throw to first and that will end the inning. Nobody left for Cincinnati. Still tied 1-1. All set for the start of the inning. And now for the Marlins. Jesus Sanchez. Sanchez. And that’s in there at the knees. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another and that’s downstairs. It’s a ball in two strikes. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. [Applause] Next one just misses. Two and two. [Music] Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. The two-2 out to center. Espol moves under it. Hauls it in for the owl. Otto Lopez will hit next. One for two. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond. And this guy is at the top of the list. That one misses and it’s one and0. Yeah, we go beyond just the, you know, fielding percentage and, you know, what it looks like, but the ability to have a range and, you know, close holes that, you know, are normally there against an average defender. But this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness. Hugan, the one thing about that is speed never goes into slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle, you can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. And there’s a ball. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. This one high in the air to left center. Hayes makes the grab on the run. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. sliced hard but foul. Misses off the plate and the count is one and one. The Cincinnati bullpen has some movement. Brent Sudter up and throwing for Terry Francona. Rogers getting loose as well. Two down. Nobody on. No, that’s a ball out to short. Dela Cruz tosses to first and that is the inning. Three up, three down for him there. Top of the order. Two up in the home half of the six. All tied 1-1. Back here in Cincinnati. Well, we go bottom six and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Matt Mlan and here comes swing and a ball lifted left field. Senoha makes the catch and there’s one gone. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. That one is absolutely belted way back there. And that one’s gone. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 2-1. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Well, Boo, clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean, that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. Did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. Now the batter now, Ellie Dea Cruz in the air left field down the line. Sedha makes the play. Two down. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run. Not allowing it to stay in the head but going to work at the next hitter. And a tough one at that. Two outs. Base is empty. And next will be the cleanup hitter Austin Hayes. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Miami’s bullpen with some action. Al Quantrol appears to be getting loose. Alcantara warming up as well. [Applause] The one swing and a foul pushed off to the right and that will get out of play. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the six. [Applause] Swings through that one for strike two. One ball, two strikes. line and that’s a base hit. Just kind of slice that one into center. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field. Throw in holds the lead runner at second. Two on now with two away. Batting third baseman Noel down to third base. Noelv Marte. [Applause] That one fouled off. [Music] Hayes on second. Steer on at first with two down. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] Blind drive and that’s a base hit out of left center field. Hayes scores and it’s an RBI single and they lead by two. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Jose Trebinho the next to hit for the Reds. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two aboard, two outs. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike. [Music] And it’s even up. [Music] [Applause] Headed towards the corner and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. Really nice swing as he gave that one a ride the opposite way, but it slice just fouled down into the corner. That had extra bases ridden all over it if it stayed fair. [Applause] Corners are occupied with two down. [Applause] Cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. We’re through six full. It’s the Reds three and the Marlins one. Back here at Great American Ballpark. Now it’s the DH Kyle Sters up the middle. That’s the first out in the top of the seventh. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Eric Wagaban now at the plate who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Out in front with the swing and that is strike one. I’m impressed by the number of first pitch strikes. He’s not afraid of contact. Some guys, they’ll nibble just cuz they don’t want to get hit hard. That’s not what we’re seeing here. One down, base is empty. Highf fly ball out towards left center. Hayes ranging after it. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. Now batting catcher Liam Hicks. Liam Hicks the next up for the Marlins. He was late there. Strike one. In the on deck circle, you really want to use that opportunity to see some pitches and time up the fast ball. Last thing you want to do is miss a good hitable fast ball early in the count. Two outs. Swing and a miss. And he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Miami down in order. And it remains a 3-1 ball game. Now pitching for pitching change here. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. So now here’s the D8 designated hitter Reese Hines. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Quantrol goes 6′ 3 in. 30 years old now. And he was born in Canada. Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] This to third. Throws to first and the lead off hitter set down to open the seventh. Oh, we talked about how the ball is coming out of the pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. At the plate, Will Benson pitch misses. One and0. One ball, no strike. out towards right center field. Meyers sizes this one up, corrals it and there’s two down. Now batting second base Matt. Now it’s the second baseman, Matt Mlan. 0 for three in this one in the dirt. And that’s ball one. That one down the line and it goes just foul. [Music] That one out to right and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball and down on strikes and good work there as he gets a one, two, three. So they go quietly there. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Reds three and the Marlins one. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Brent Sudter. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Now here is Dane Meers. Right Dane Meyers. Come on. center field. Espion makes the grab and there’s one away. Now batting left fielder Javier Senova. And up next for Miami, Javier Senoha. He’s already homerred here in this one. First pitch and he just misses. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Emlio Pagan up and throwing for Terry Francona. [Music] One down, base is empty. There’s the strike. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. That’s down and in. Check swing and he went two and two. Sets him down on strikes. That was pretty nasty. So, two down now and here is Xavier Edwards 0 for three with three ground outs. That misses the zone. Ball one. This one in the air. Dela Cruz makes the catch in and over and one, two, three go the Marlins and they still trail it here three to one. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now the number two hitter Santiago Espino Espar Quantrol back to work. just missed. Check swing. Now we’ll look down to first and that’s a swing according to umpire Ed Drummond. Quantrol back to work. Ripped on a line. This one could be trouble and it gets by him around first and hustling for second and he’s into second with nobody out. Everything came together for him. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it. Ellie Dea Cruz the next to hit for the Reds. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time man at secondha squirts away a little bit. No ball, two strikes. Andy O2 fouled off and they’ll do it again. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. [Music] Quantro back to work. The shorts stop takes a ball. That missed by a lot and it’s two and two. And that one missing low. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do next. Fights it off. He’ll see another. 3-2. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headto head. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. Oh, looking for a swing and miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. First and second, no outs. Now the left fielder, Austin Hayes, three for three with three singles. Swings through that one. 0 and one. No ball, one strike. First and second here. No outs. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Now a relay to the plate. Safe at home. And the runner scores from second. It’s 4-1. Well, he delivers in a huge spot right there. Well, he’s so dialed in. I don’t think he even realizes how much pressure exists out there. Very easy swing, nice and relaxed. This is the type of approach you want to see guys take in this situation. So digging in, Spencer Steer now. A high-fly ball out to left center. He’s got it. Runner tags from third. He’ll score on the sack fly and they’re up by four. All these players understand how important each run is, especially as you get closer to the end of the ball game. Nice job right there to get that runner in from third and add a little insurance. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. That’s it for Cal Quantrol and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for Sandy Alcantra into the game. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season, and that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. Next for Cincinnati, Noel V Mart. Noelv Marte. [Applause] They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. [Applause] Swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. Hayes the runner at second with one away [Applause] in the air left field down the line and that’s a fair ball. The run comes in from second. It’s an RBI single and the lead is up to five. Jose Trevinho the next to hit for the Reds. One for three [Applause] and first offering is fouled off. [Applause] Ground ball could be two. Over to second for one. And it’s a double play to end the inning. Three runs on three hits, no errors, and no one left. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the Red six and the Marlins won. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the ninth. Here’s the third baseman, Jesus Sanchez. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. movement in the bullpen. Nick Martinez up and throwing. Santion also throwing. [Applause] Just missed. One ball, one strike. [Applause] And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s two in one. Next offering is fouled back on the ground to short. Dela Cruz onto first and the leadoff man retired here in the ninth. Now batting shorts stop Otto Lopez. Next to hit, Otto Lopez. [Applause] That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. The shorts stop takes the ball. hit on the ground to short. Tosses to first. Two up, two down. Now batting number 15. So they’re down to their final out. Here’s the center fielder, Augustinine Ramirez. [Applause] And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. Tap foul at the plate. The 1-1 is fouled off. One strike away. Two down. Nobody on and a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. Well, a real nice performance out of the pin. This guy is not the one who usually gets the final out, but extended his role a little bit and helped his team get the win. He got the save. Nice job. 6-1 is your final here today for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long What the
