Braves must avoid repeating the same MLB Draft mistake

  1. “While Owen Murphy, JR Ritchie, Hurston Waldrep and Cam Caminiti are still in the Atlanta organization, the only one I still have hope for being a major player for this team is Caminiti.”

There are multiple portions of this article that prove this guy is a moron, but this sentence was the one that put it over the edge.

“In the meantime, I will continue living my life in a world where prospects will never do anything for me” was another piece of ass journalism.

John Buhler, wherever you are, learn ball.

  2. I still have high hopes for JR Ritchie and Owen Murphy. Why is the author giving up on them?

  3. Giving up on Owen Murphy because he needed surgery is wild, it’s so common nowadays.

  4. TLDR we shouldn’t draft a pitcher in the first round this year. Basically what we’ve all been yelling on here all year. Which means AA will take an underslot high school pitcher.

IMO you take a college middle infielder with a good bat (not sure who that is so someone pls chime in) who is a couple years away or less.

  5. I agree, to an extent, with the sentiment of the article. Drafting pitchers is great, but I would love to see them draft up the middle (C, P, 2B, SS, CF) every year. Keep drafting pitchers at like a 2 to 1 ratio, but at least fill the cupboard with some athletic talent that can adjust to other positions as necessary as they develop. Build prospect depth across the organization.

  6. Even the latest [mlb.com](http://mlb.com) mock draft wrote this:

**22. Braves: Gage Wood, RHP, Arkansas (**[**No. 23**](https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/2025/draft/gage-wood-805906)**)**
**The Braves are one of the few teams mentioned with more pitchers than hitters.** Wood has one of the best fastballs in the Draft and [threw a 19-strikeout no-hitter](https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/gage-wood-throws-no-hitter-at-men-s-college-world-series?t=mlb-draft-coverage) at the Men’s College World Series in his final start, but he also missed two months with shoulder issues. Other arms to consider: Louisville right-hander Patrick Forbes, Alabama righty Riley Quick and the top prep left-hander, Kruz Schoolcraft.

More pitchers when 2/3 of the top 50 guys are position players. I know nothing about Gage Wood outside of his no-hitter against Murray State and him being built somewhat like Bryce Elder. Maybe some Arkansas fans here can set me straight.

  7. You should look at it this way:

How many players get drafted and never contribute at ml level.

Are the Braves better or worse than average?

Maybe cost analysis: total draft cost / number of players / numbers of major league service. I should do this myself actually,

  8. You always take BPA regardless of position.  Braves are loaded at catcher but if a catcher is BPA you take him.

Fansided has some terrible takes and this is one of them.

  9. They need to hit more “international free agents” like Acuna
