Monday Mashing | Royals Slug Four Homers in Series-Opener
The Royals came off their second consecutive winning road trip. The Royals need to figure out how to win at home hud they have lost eight consecutive home series after beginning the year 16 to 5 at Kaufman Stadium. The Pirates have had a wacky series of games over the weekend concluded with being shut out in three consecutive games against the Mariners. The first time the Pirates have been shut out in three games since 1968. See how they do against Noah Cameron. The Pirates will be facing him for the first time outside of the two teams that roughed him up a little bit. Two of the best teams in the world, the Dodgers and the Yankees, he had been really good. So Tommy Pham in the top of the first out to India and Pham is out. Number one here is andrew Mccutchen in his 17th big league season 12 with the Pirates off speed and he strikes out Mccutchen for the second out beautifully located changeup down. After all those breaking balls in the fastball, he pulled foul or that changeup is a good spot even though it’s elevated, he just missed it. He was way out in front of it. Now, Brian Reynolds switch hitting outfielder on the right side and he swings and misses. That was a breaking ball. I think reynolds appealing to Brian on Nora that played umpire that he just barely made contact but not. So the teams are changing sides and 235 closing average. And one thing about him is that fastball, his fastball is working, he’s going to get the strikeouts at the top of the zone. Jonathan India, a first for the Royals starts off with a strikeout looking Bob was five for 13 in the Arizona series and 11 out of 29 on the road trip, he strikes out the first two batters looking very nice. Andrew Haney, just a crafty veteran left hander is able to pick corners, look at the location of this pitch. It’s a good fastball perfectly located on the inside corner. So one strike to count on Vinny Pascucci, 271 batting average for Vinny with 14 home runs, smokes it to right field and gone for a first inning home run. And all of a sudden, Vinney just owns left hand pitching, but that ball came in. He missed a foot right in his wheelhouse Shelby 1 to 3 yesterday 1 to 11 in the series against the Diamondbacks. Perez pops it up shallow right reynolds coming in and veering off at the last moment, Gonzalez Then pass Quintino Homers to give the Royals a 10 lead. Henry davis against Cameron pop up that drops in for a base hit a 12 pitch. Davis singles. That is so good. I mean, a couple of pitches fastballs in off the plate. Henry davis is swinging, get the bat going and see that changeup. Good arm action, but it’s left up and out over the plate pitch and makes the play in foul territory and no double play. Heck of an effort that’s frustrating for a hitter. He thought he fought the pitch off for a foul ball and he made it, he’s flexible. We know that, but he can’t contort his body that way. There’s no chance he touch on the base, touched the base before with 13 RBIs. His last 10 games hitting a 3 to 10 with runners in scoring position, high fly ball left center field deep and Tommy Pham ends the shutout string with a two run homer to give the Pirates a 21 lead in the third inning. It is his third as a bucko. He comes back to KC and he delivers here, jonathan India. He struck out looking his first time up. There’s a good swing right there. He didn’t hit it hard, but he sure had to wait on it and he takes it to right field for a leadoff single. Now you have to take a slow curve and go the other way that tells me his thought process was right on. India leads off first with Bobby Witt Jr at the plate on the ground, left side and through and the Royals have two on with nobody out, one away in the bottom of the third that brings up Michael garcia and now Garcia lines it to left. India is going to be waved home and no throw. The Royals know Tommy Pham does not have a strong arm and he didn’t even make a throw and garcia ties the game with an RB I single. You know, it’s so nice to see him come through in a situation like that, just like you were saying, last home stand. Matter of fact, the month of June at home, we couldn’t do this right here. This was missing, the big hit was missing from our offense. Maybe now that this game is tied 2 to 2, Salvador Perez can untie it deep into left center field long run for Canario and he should have gone with the white shoelace. One run is home. Garcia holds at third and Salvi has an RBI I double and the Royals have retaken the lead from the captain. A beautiful hit, didn’t get enough of it. He got it off the end of the bat when Salvi barrels them, we all know they take a splash but that’s a nice swing under control right there and he laced it. Canon who always does well against Heaney has a chance to get a big hit here on the ground to second out at second base and safe at first on a hustle by and the Royals get the third run of the inning. Nice hustle out of the box. He didn’t want to do that. He wanted to hit the ball to right field cleanly, but he bounced it. So it would give him a little time and he hustled down the line, 10 year veteran left field fan back and a heck of a catch by Tommy Pham. Wow, what a play that was for two Royals. Tommy Pham just robbed nick Lofton of extra bases and prevented the Royals from scoring. At least another run. Here’s India base hit his last time. Jonathan India gets it down in left center field. Pham cut it off but Then dropped it and that allows India to go into second base with a double like the explosiveness coming off of his bat and he is squaring up baseballs. That’s his 19th double and he squares it up on. Looks like a little cutter. Bobby Wood Jr looking for a pitch up and he can get over the infield and drive in India and he gets it up and he drives it deep to right reynolds is back and over the wall. Bobby baseball putting a charge into that one for his 13th home run, driving one that way here at Kaufman had a hard time hitting a homer here last home stand at all. And now they’ve got a couple today. Now it’s I KF as he’s known, the veteran, he struck out looking his first time. That’s another strikeout for Noah Cameron strikeout number seven on the night for Noah Cameron 6 to 2 Royals. And Salvi’s chipped in with an RB I double. Salvi launches it deep to left field and the heat will help and that is gone way gone. And the Royals have three home runs tonight. That might be one of the highest the captain hit. That ball was just launched. It went straight up. Wow, talk about launch angle. That’s 91 down the middle and that thing took forever to come down. Noah is one out away from going six innings. He’s pitched just fine this year , especially when you consider these are his 1st 10 big league starts, but he has gone five in a row throwing fewer than six innings. And now he has put an end to that with a nice fielding play to get Reynolds six innings complete for Noah Cameron, a quality start tonight for the lefty from ST joe. If kyle Isbell reaches all nine will have reach for the Royals right center field, that will be down and Isbell does reach to begin the bottom of the sixth inning and he’s dashing around second and into third with a leadoff triple. How beautiful is that so nice. I think he heard us talking about he was the only Royal that hadn’t gotten a hit or gotten on base at all tonight. That breaking ball stayed up and he nailed it. This is a triples ballpark, especially when you split the defenders like that. Very nice. His fourth triple of the season and the infield remains in for Bobby Wood Jr lined to left field, Isbell had to hurry up to get back to tag. It was hit so hard. They’re going to rule that a catch and a sacrifice fly for Bobby Wood Jr and they will not challenge but pham caught it and Then dropped it, pitching defense and timely hits is how the Royals are going to win at home. And that’s exactly what they’re doing tonight. Cameron is doing exactly what you want him to do. He has retired 10 in a row on the ground to Bobby Woot Jr. The out is recorded and that’s a career high seven innings for Noah Cameron. He completes seven for the first time in his major league career and gets a standing ovation at Kauffman Stadium. Nick Lofton is one for three. He can easily be three for three and that is blasted to left field and he could easily be four for four. That’s his second home run of the season and his fourth hard hit ball of the night 105 off the bat and the Royals lead 9 to 2. How welcomed is that Matt? So thrilled about the production from Nick Lofton coming in tonight, 171 hitter that was lost Jonathan Boen will get the Pirates in the ninth inning. Bin was called up yesterday when Daniel Lynch went on the injured list with some nerve irritation in his left elbow. Now it’s nick Gonzalez zero for two with a walk and he walks Gonzalez with one out here in the night. Canario Xander has struck out twice and flied out to right runner at second and off the glove of diving second baseman Tyler Tolbert that will allow the run to score. Give Alexander Canario an RB I single really good effort by Tolbert just put in the game as a pinch hitter and moved into second base. See that ball hit right off the end, a little line drive just off the edge of the webbing. Here’s Henry davis, we’ll take it the Royals win by six in their first game at home in July. He passed Pitino Bobby Woot Jr Salvador Perez and Nick Lofton all hit home runs great. Starting pitching by Noah Cameron seven strong innings first time in his career.
Noah Cameron tossed 7.0 strong innings and was backed by four home runs as the Royals opened the series and homestand with a dominant win!
