More moves are coming for the New York Rangers as an insider has revealed a shocking update as it pertains to one of the Rangers star players. We’re going to break that down as well as some surprising updates from development camp and some insight into what the future of this roster will look like on opening night of next season. We’re going to break it all down in this episode of Rangers Digest. But before we do that, a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. But, let’s dive right into it. A new update from none other than Larry Brooks himself. We’re going to get into some of development camp and all that in a second sneak peek there. But, new update from Larry Brooks on our Tammy Paneran and his thoughts on that situation because now that you know everything’s kind of calmed down, the dust has kind of settled. There’s some depth moves still being made. The Rangers made another signing yesterday. Brett covered that in a video. But, you know, the biggest elephant in the room right now is the fact that they have one of the biggest names in terms of unre unrestricted free agents next season just kind of lingering. Things are just kind of lingering. So, uh, you know, Brooks went on to say, should Paneran take a pay cut? First of all, before we go any further, he’s going to probably have to. I mean, listen, he’s still a great player, but he’s probably going to have to at least a little bit. But we’ll get into it. Should he get a raise? And Brook says, “I don’t know, but between 10 and 12 million per on a 3 to fouryear deal seems like a sweet spot. There’s no reason the team should enter and go through the year with speculation about Panera.” Now, I do agree with that. To go through all of next season with the new coach, possibly a new captain, almost an entire roster turnover. I mean, realistically, if you look at the start of last season’s season’s roster, opening night to what this season’s opening night roster is going to look like, it’s like so much turnover, right? So, you can’t go into the season with that Paneran speculation hanging over your head. Either trade him, which I know is a very crazy, or resign him. And I think the ultimate um you know what ultimately is going to happen here is they will resign him. But it’s really about the dollar amount. You have to consider a lot of things. Now, listen, Arti Paneran is the Rangers best player. Let’s make not no mistake about it, right? At least offensively, maybe their best well-rounded player is probably JT Miller. Let me correct myself there. It’s probably JT Miller, but their best offensive player and a guy that you can rely upon to score uh to put up points. That’s our Tammy Panera. Maybe not necessarily in the playoffs, but of course the regular season, we know what he can do. He’s had a fantastic run here as a New York Ranger. And if you take a look here last season in a down year, he still had 89 points in 80 games. And I mean, he was over a point a game player in a down year, right? But of course, you want, you know, that point production for how much you’re paying him right now at over $11 million. But some things to consider, right? He is 30. He’s going to be 34, right? So, if you sign him to a four-year contract extension, he’s going to be 38. Um, and that’s something you have to consider because some guys, you know, their game translates well. As they get older, they change their game a little bit. Panaran, we know what his game’s about. I am a little bit worried about the fact that, you know, as he gets older, I wonder if he becomes a little less effective. I still think he’s going to be a great scorer, of course, and put up a ton of points, but these are things you have to consider. And speaking of things you have to consider, look at the free agency class next year. Maybe, you know, there is a world where you do let it linger. I think the speculation around that if you let it go into the season is going to be absolutely insane. That’s all anybody’s going to be talking about next season. Trust me, that’s going to be a thing. But if you look at the rest of the list, you know, there are some big names there. And one name that’s on this list that we’ve talked about a lot is Jason Robertson. And the reason I want to bring that up is because Paneran right now makes 11.6 million and some change. Of course, a lot of change, but and some change. Uh, and there’s been some interesting reports out of Dallas about Jason Robertson recently that, you know, this is from Jeff Merrick that he doesn’t think the Dallas Stars are going to let Jason Robertson uh the Jason Robertson question linger deep into the summer. They’re going to find out pretty quick what the number is. And depending on what the number is, they’re either going to trade him or they’re going to resign him. And he went on to say, I think Dallas will have an idea uh pretty early in July. I see the Ducks as a destination. I think that’s a very interesting thing to just throw out there. And in terms of a number, sounds like from Jeff Merrick as well. Uh Jeff thinks Dallas won’t let Jason Robertson obviously what we just said linger much past early July. Uh but they don’t want to pay him much more than $10 million a season. Now listen, uh Jason Robertson for what he does is going to make our Tammy Paneran money, right? Like if you take a look at what Paneran’s making, he’s going to make close to that, probably $11 million. So, you know, Brett’s brought it up on the channel. I brought it up. It’s just an interesting idea. I think you keep and resign our Tammy Paneran this summer, of course, if he’s open to it. And I’ll get to another reason why you should probably do that in a second. But there it is something to at least think about if you want to bring in Jason Robertson who is only 25 can put up I think 50 goals with the right center in this league and will probably be making somewhere in the 11 million ballpark maybe a little bit more because of course the salary cap’s going up and you’re going to have a lot of uh cap space if you’re the Rangers anyway. So I think it’s very interesting and just to wrap this up with a bow you know Larry Brooks said basically the Rangers can’t let this linger. Uh I I do agree to an extent. I think you have to be strategic about this though. Really consider all your options and kind of take your time. See what Dallas is going to do. Take your time and see what Dallas is going to do. But uh he said they must extend him. He played a key role in Gabriov coming to New York by the way. So himself and Gabricov wanted to play in front of Shurken. I think Shurken is going to have a great year next year because of how much better the defense looks. And don’t kid yourself. and M Schneider on the left side. The top four actually looks really, really good heading into next season. So, I’m excited about that. And Brooks is speculating a three to four year deal, which would be ideal, by the way. If you are going to resign Paneran, no more than four years. Why are we kidding ourselves? It’s got to be three to four years. And he’s not going to want less. That makes no sense for the player either. And between 10 to 12 million. Now, of course, the salary cap’s going up, so that could make some sense if he does get a raise, right? We all have to remember that that the salary cap’s going up like $10 million every summer now. So, there’s going to be a lot more room uh under the cap. And of course, Jury did a pretty good job. There’s a couple UFAS coming up next year, but he did a pretty good job of resigning guys for two years, locking him in at their dollar amounts, even though the salary cap is going up. So, don’t mind that. But very interesting stuff. Let me know in the comments how you feel about Arti Paneran. Do you want to trade him? Do you want to see him walk? Do you want to see him resign? Ultimately, I think they’re going to resign him. It’s going to be somewhere in this ballpark. It’s probably going to look a little bit different than this. Uh, and I think ultimately it will work out because listen, you have to consider he is going to be older and by the end of the contract he will be 38. But for the time being, I mean, he just came off 100 point 120 point season and of course last year was a down year for everyone. He still had 89 points. So he still has a lot of good hockey, good offensive hockey left in the tank. So ultimately, personally, I think they’re going to resign him. But listen, you got to look at everything around the league and consider everything. That’s all I’m saying. Now, quick update from development camp because that’s happening right now. I wanted to give you guys quick update on that. A lot going on with that actually. And Gabe Perau uh was actually skating with Patrick Kane earlier this summer and he said he was my favorite player growing up. I’m just trying to look at him and take everything I can. I thought that was pretty cool. Obviously the former Ranger for less than half a season, Patrick Kane, but he’s skating with Patrick Kane. And I mean, if you’re gay pro and you’re just entering the league, of course, you know, a handful of games under your belt, skating with a guy like Patrick Kane is uh not a bad thing. not a bad guy to learn from the the little intricacies of the game. So, uh that’s pretty cool. And then of course, Vince Mccogliano on the scene to obviously break down everything that’s happening with development camp and a couple quotes. And I wanted to get into a couple quotes from Gabe Perau and Chris Drury. And Gabe Perau went on to say that I’m going in with the mentality that I’m going to make the team. Uh and that was after the July 2nd session. and they were on the ice, I believe, uh, July 1st and 2nd. I believe they’re on the ice, uh, you know, multiple days in a row here. Uh, but that’s what everyone’s mentality should be. I’m going to do everything this summer, train hard, work on the little things I need to and come here and make the team. He also said he wants to, you know, his biggest focus this off seasonason is actually putting on weight as well, which is, you know, he’s going to have to do that. That’s no secret. That’s no surprise. So, uh, pretty good news there. And again, he’s working hard. He’s coming in with the right mentality. Of course, everyone should have this mentality, but the fact that he’s telling himself, “I’m going to work really, really hard and I’m going to blow the doors off when I come into training camp and preseason and try and make this team.” That’s the attitude and that’s the hunger the Rangers need from all of their players. And Chris Dre went on to say, “I like that mindset. I want players to have goals of coming in here and making the team. That’s why we have training camp and tryyous. And that’s why young players like him, Bard, and Oman, who by the way, haven’t really talked about Otman a lot, doesn’t seem like he’s fitting into the plans just yet. I think that’s very interesting if he turns into maybe a trade chip or you know maybe he starts the year again in the Harford Wolfpack. He had a great season last year despite his injury. But anyway, he said are working so hard in the summer to come back and give themselves the best chance to be Rangers in the fall. And listen, there’s a real possibility that some of the guys that Chris Jury signed this off season get outplayed by some of the young guys and then the young guys make the team. It’s a real possibility. And the reason I really like that Chris Jur is creating this healthy competition heading into training camp. These guys have to have the hunger. The spots are not solidified. Most of the spots are not handed to you. You’re going to have to come in and you’re going to have to earn it. If you’re a young guy like Gabe Perau or if you’re a young guy still like Brennan Oman, you have to come in and earn that spot. And I really like that because, you know, again, it’s going to create some healthy competition. So, lots going on with development camp. Should be a really good one. And happy 4th of July everyone. Hope you all are enjoying your long weekend. But let me know in the comments how you feel about our Tammy Paneran and of course Gabe Pone and a couple other guys from development camp because a couple guys look really good. But of course all eyes are on Gabe Perau to see if he can make the team and you know what’s happening with a couple other players as well. Matthew Robertson looks like he’s on the way up. Brennan Oman had a pretty good showing last year. What’s the plan for him? We’ll keep you updated for everything here on the channel. Let me know how you feel in the comments.

Darius Domingues breaks down a major update on Panarin and some updates from development camp.

  1. I wish they’d trade him but I’m not so certain they will the rangers always do the wrong thing so they’ll give him an extension for sure

  2. Panarin and Mika need to go. That players only meeting at his house was a problem and both of those guys tanked the season for the team. Fuck them both. The Rangers need to go in a different direction and have guys in the team that want to be here

  3. He hasn’t performed in the later rounds of the playoffs when we needed him too, same with Mika. This off season is going to bite us in the ass, because out of the top 3 we had last year, #20 should have been the only one back…..

  4. Doesn’t matter about the cap increasing. His next contract will start when he’s 35. His production will decrease. If he wants to be here, he needs to accept a discount, or let him walk.

  5. Trade bread while he has value, he's a no show in the playoffs and a bad example for the young players.also most missed shots on goal in the league.

  6. Delusional fans need to wake up. This team is going nowhere. They are no better than they were last year. The best you can hope for is a maybe making the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round. The likely scenario is they don't make the playoffs again. If they can get a good return, I would trade Panarin now and maybe the 27 season may start looking up.

  7. The Rangers should tank it next year and get a lottery pick. This team has no shot at winning anything. Unload Panarin while he still has the most value

  8. Before the SA & meeting news. I was still on the trade Panarin trade. Unless he takes an insane discount and becomes a 2nd line piece vs main offense weapon. But him being on market is unlike anything on deadline in a long time.

  9. If they sign him at more than 8M they're crazy. Last playoffs he was 1 point short of a goal per game though he struggled to score against Fla, but then again so did McDavid I think…though it's a concern playoff production or lack there of is a tad overstated IMHO mainly because they have yet to find the line combination that can help create space for a guy like Panarin in the playoffs when the ice shrinks. I love Trocheck but he's not that guy

  10. Panarin is a huge offensive player, an org doesnt mix him in for D, thats what clever roster building is about because youre wasting time looking for 2way elite forwards who have great D, forecheck and score 40g or 50a- those players are few and it's difficult and unrealistic to keep waiting for them.

Look back on Panarin's game, he doesnt take a lot of hits or endure bang-up play, so there's not a lot of wear and tear to facilitate a big decline? No reason to expect big declines in decision making and reflex either- with his compact size its very reasonable to assume he can continue to be elusive and elite at passing.

Trading him or keeping him can both make sense.

  11. Some of the comments in here are from REAL hockey fans. I agree the league is getting younger and you don’t need to over spend on players that have already had there chance to shine. If they don’t shine they should not get rewarded, they need to focus on building there extremely stacked amount of youthful players. Sure there will be growing pains but they need to start building a TEAM. Let them learn they have great coaches to lead them into something great the next few years.

  12. He's 34, not 38 … Did we learn nothing from Zito? …. $7.5 for 6 … that's $1 Million more than giving him 11×4, he has the security of being signed until he is 40, and he comes in at less than Cuylle will be making in 3 years. Make the last 2-3 years as painless as possible in terms of a buy-out and NMC. There is absolutely no need for Robertson when you have Panarin, the only realistic target on that list for the Rangers is Eichel, unless by some miracle, McDavid not only leaves Edmonton, but wants to come to NY and with bread in at a tidy $7.5 AAV, it's doable… with him at $11+ …. not as much.

  13. See if he will waive his no trade clause. What playoff series ha she shown up for? Laf was visible 2 playoffs ago. Panarin, not so much. He’s easy to knock off the puck, doesn’t back check, cheats for points. Trade him, get some assets in return.

  14. This should have been done already. Panarin is by far the Best player on the team and one of the best in NHL . He can skate circles around others and makes plays that are worthy of watching over and over. Re sign Now !

  15. Resigning Panarin would be a massive mistake. He’s an old east west player you’ll never win with. Freezing cold take thinking Drury resigns him – he’s dumping Panarin and Mika asap. Mika may have a rebound year without the cancers in the locker room though. We know JT doesn’t put up with pussy Swedes
