Blazers Best Starting 5 since 2000 – Anyone You’d Swap In/Out?
July 8, 2025
Came across this Quarter-Century team for the Blazers online. Is this the top starting 5 from the past 25 years? Anyone you'd add in?

Five goats right there.

This just made me hard
Brandon Roy was a pure SG, not a forward.
Maybe Pippen over McCollum?
Dame
BRoy
Pippen
Sheed
LA
CJ 6 Man
Roy at 2 – Pippen at 3 – I could be persuaded to swap in Oden during his best 20-50 game in place of LMA.
Love CJ and he’d be an ideal 6th man to this team, but we have seen the defensive shortcomings to that backcourt. I’d slide Roy down to SG and bring Batum in at SF. CJ is a better player, but I’d take Batum’s size and fit with the other starting 5. Hopefully we can comfortably say Camara or Avdija instead of Batum in a few years!
Aldridge would rather leave in free agency than play Center…
I’d swap out CJ for Camara if the goal was to make a competitive starting 5.
McCollum shouldnt even be on this list….like at all
1) Brandon Roy is right there, and Batum was way better for the blazers than McCollum was, and he’s an actual forward.
2) even if you want to force Roy as a forward, Wesley Motherfucking Mathews was a way better sg than McCollum, and he was 1 of the best defenders the blazers have had in the last at the position in the history of the franchise.
Steve Smith/Roy SG SF and take out CJ
I loved CJ but he’s undersized. Remove him and put Roy at SG where he belongs. Pippen, Batum, or even Camara at SF.
Throwing out a 3 guard lineup (especially with CJ) makes you look like this is Neil Olshey account😜
If you were making it an actual best starting 5 for this timeframe you slide Roy to SG and then either Pippen or Batum come in at SF.
Raef LaFrentz’s Expiring Contract at C
You’d need at least 2 Sheeds to cover the defensive holes.
we talking about if all these guys were in their primes? sabonis, pau gasol, melo
Dame
Pippen
Roy
Oden
Rasheed
Assumption is everyone is healthy.
Not sure if you’re asking just the top guys we had at each position or who we’d want as an actual cohesive unit to play in the modern nba today. I’m gonna take the approach of the latter cause it’s a fun thought process. Here’s mine (assuming prime while in the blazers):
PG: Dame – best player we’ve had since 2000. No question about this one.
SG: Roy – Secondary ball handler and better D/fit than CJ
SF: Batum – tempted to but Camara here. It’s pretty close and they both don’t need the ball in their hands and play good defense. Batum wins for now but I’m sure in a year or two Camara would take his spot.
PF: Sheed – Also tempted to put LMA here. But I’m not a big LMA fan so for the enjoyment of my eyes alone I’m taking sheed.
C: Sabonis – Even tho his prime on our team was not his true prime, he was still very good. His game is probably even better in the modern NBA too.
Not CJ. Love the guy, huge black hole on the court.
I wouldn’t be mad about Pippen at the 3, but I’m taking Camara to fill out this lineup. Recency bias ftw.
