Nikola Jokic has informed the Nuggets he will not sign a contract extension this offseason, team sources told The Denver Post, as the three-time MVP intends to wait until next summer to engage in contract talks.

Jokic has a minimum of two years remaining on his current supermax contract, as well as a player option for the 2027-28 season. Tuesday was the first day he was eligible for an extension that would add up to three years and $212 million to that deal.

  1. I think this was the expected outcome right? He stands to make more by waiting another season.

  2. Smart. Barring a catastrophic injury he’s still going to get the extension next summer if he wants it. And this way he can use it as leverage to force them to put a better team around him.

  3. He’s a Laker unfortunately

edit: Jesus fellas do I have to slap a /s on this bad boy

  4. Hey Nikola! Did you know that Phoenix allows occupant-owned horses on residential properties 10,000sq ft or higher?

  5. Hold on to your horses.. this man just provided NBA media with so much speculation content.

  6. This is just setup for when he signs the full 5-year supermax in 2027, which with the salary cap growing to $200M+, he could find himself a:

    > **5-years $400M+ contract with Denver.**

    He’d be making $70M to $90M a year then.

That’s about enough to build the most elite equestrian ranch in the world along with maybe 5 proven champions racehorses and breed them.

  7. Nuggets, you pay him whatever he wants, right? No way you let a generational talent walk.

  8. I enjoy all the Jokic to Lakers jokes but its annoying how many casuals actually believe it will happen lol

  9. Bro downloaded that new horse girl racing game and is rethinking everything.

  10. Good for him. He shouldn’t let them off the hook. Keep options open, and get more money later on.

  11. This is not news. It doesn’t make financial sense for him to get an extension now.

  12. The obvious answer is he’s just gonna sign it next offseason, buuuuttttt a LOT can happen in a year. Ijs 🤷🏽‍♂️
