Hugo Gonzalez Describes HARD Transition to Celtics | Practice Interview

I’m looking forward to getting out to Vegas and playing some ball with your teammates here. I’m pretty excited. Pretty excited to make the debut and everything. Um, pretty excited to have the the tournament that perform well. Team performs well. Uh, we got to get on work right now. We did a really good mini training camp, so pretty excited about it. What’s it been like so far for you? Yeah, it’s hard, you know. um uh coming back from the season five six days ago and having a week from rest and then coming here was uh something that I need to battle to but I I’m just going to get through it. I really excited to play the summer league right now. So just having great feelings. How many games do you expect to play? I don’t know. That’s uh decision of the coach and and everybody. I’m just headed to whatever they they want me to do. I’m just going. So whatever they decide is going to be good. And you said it’s been hard to turn around. so far. Where are you at physically coming off a season that was so long you just ended there? Like, how are you feeling? I mean, I’m 19, so I can’t complain too much. Um, but, uh, you know, just, uh, when you’re excited about something, uh, if you’re physical, a little bit tired than anything, it’s just get away. So, I’m just without excuses for for some. Obviously, there’s a big adjustment happening off the court, but on it, what’s been the biggest part of the acclamation process as you go from Real Madrid system to the Celtics and what they’re asking from you? Well, actually big biggest adjustment is to try to handle out with the with that three-point line that is a bit far and uh to handle with the with the lines, not not stepping on the wide lines. So, trying to adjust also to the pace of and the rhythm that is another complete thing compared to Europe. So, just trying to adapt. I’ve had some, as I said, mini camp for for adapting. I think I’m adapting myself well. So, it’s pretty excited to to have it on the court. And what has it been like having Matt Reynolds as your head coach here for summer league? Sorry. What has it been like having Matt Reynolds as your head coach for this training camp and going into summer league? It was pretty good. We’re having a really great relationship and we just trying to to perform well on the summer league and on the season. What’s it been like in Boston? Any similarities to Madrid? You mean the city? City. Yeah, I mean I saw the thing that I know is that they told me that Boston is pretty more or less European. So like uh a lot of things uh that were really really beautiful. I really liked it. Mad is also a great city. So um you know just having that comparison everything just going to great places trying to catch up with the idea of Boston and everything. But it was it was good. It was pretty nice and I really liked it. Have you been recognized the streets yet? I mean by by a couple of people but not not too much actually. So so I can say what have they said? N just uh wishing me the best of lucks for the future for the summer league for a season and everything and just pretty excited to see me on the course. So any traffic issues? Not yet because uh I ain’t got license for driving. So I’m just having Uber whatever the time until the we arrive to some place. Um I’m just with the phone and everything. So no problem. That something shared a photo of you meeting and Jaylen, what’s it been like having them around? I mean, it’s pretty feeling pretty blessed about that. Um, they’re um really really good players and uh one of the best of the league and having them uh near here for learning about them and everything. It’s it’s just an opportunity that that I’m really blessed to have. I’m really looking forward to to meet them more and everything, but yeah, now I have to focus on the summer league and everything. So, are there any uh are there any specific parts of your game that you’re trying to improve in this summer league to get ready for the NBA? Yeah, for sure. I want to, as I said, I want to catch up with the idea of the three-point line and everything, all the spacing and all that stuff. I want to I want to get better shooting. So, I’m just trying to I’m putting my focus on the on the triple now and the shot and the the pace of rhythm and everything so I can I can improve it. Last time we talked to you, you just literally got to Boston in the last couple days. Has there anybody has there been anybody since like on this summer lacrosse from now you met so many teammates and coaches that have like helped you adapt over here? You’ve formed a close relationship with like has there been anybody in particular you’ve like stuck with and has helped you? Yeah, for sure. I mean, I’m I’m pretty grateful for the whole organization cuz I know that um if it’s difficult to be on a new place, being on a new place, being a foreign player, it’s even harder. Um every guy, every people here is doing a really good job with me. I’m really really grateful for that. Then teammates just Jordan, um Baylor, Miles, they’re they’re just having trying me to get acclimated as soon as possible for the summer league. Then coach uh I mean every coach is here come play basketball. I don’t really get that idea. Um Craig I’m I’m really close to him but I mean everybody here it’s trying me to feel really comfortable with it and I’m really really grateful for it. Where do you feel like shooter at this point? Sorry to shoot a lot of threes. Is that exciting for you? Obviously that’s a part of your game you’re trying to work on. Where do you feel like you’re at as a three-point shooter right now? I mean I think that um I should adapt to it. um if the they got so really good players for um generate advantages and everything. So whenever I’m whenever I’m going to have the the ball, I’m going to just be more or less open because they’re one of the best on ball creators on the league. So everything I just got to do is catch and shoot it. Catch and shoot it. And that’s what I’m trying to to perform as well, my balance and everything. So I’m just I’m just trying to get adapted to the to the Celtic system so I can contribute to the team as soon as possible. Thank you. Thank you.
