MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 8, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

First pitch moments away. And our pitcher in this game, Jacob Lopez and Singy, that may be his name, but the strikeout is his game. Well, Boo, I can tell you’ve been working on that one. But yes, you are right. This guy strike out for nine over 11. I mean, that’s just getting it done. There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup. And when you look at what he’s able to do, man, it’s going to be a fun one to watch today. Jurgson Proofar, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Baby, let’s go. And that’s in for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And now one and two. Look pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away on the ground right side tosses to first. Proar is out. Here’s the Atlanta Braves lineup. This group was shut out their last game, so we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. you’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored and you want to get off to a great start, score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games which no one wants to be a part of. Fouls one off out of play. Back to our left, Lopez in his rookie season, 26 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Next offering is fouled back. Here comes the pitch. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Queen of gold, baby. Let’s go. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. Quick start here this evening. Two out, top of the first. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Here is Austin Riley first off. And it just misses. All one, no strike. And that one fouled off. Two outs. Base is empty. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. He’s got it. And that is out number three. End of a half inning of play. No score. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starting pitcher Grant Holmes. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. not having a feel mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Well, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Just found a way to slap that ball down the third baseline. That’s really excellent back control. And it kind of goes back to all those drills you see hitters do off the tea where it’s placed in different spots. That was just nice. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. Holmes picks to first. Butler back on a dive. And he swings and misses. And it’s nothing and one and one. Runner out to go. Fouled off. He was late. Rudder at first with no outs here. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Battling here as he fouls it away. Andy O2 swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. Bel clearly just anxious right there and understandably so. an 02 count. You feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where tossed to second, not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. And first offering is fouled off. Rooker off of first with two away. There’s a swing and a drive. Proar giving chase and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. Ouch. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. So first and second with two outs and now a chance for Shay Langelers and strike one to the catcher. 01’s the count. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. First and second, two down. [Applause] Yep. That ball went out and it remains two and two. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] stays alive. [Applause] Two on, two outs on the ground to the left. That’s the third out. Inning over. A strand a couple scoreless after one. New inning getting started. And now the DH Shawn Murphy. Shawn Murphy. Come on, Jacob. Lopez back to work. Swing and a miss. 0 and one. This to third. One up, one down. [Applause] Batting fifth, second base Azie Alb. Here is Aussie Alb’s up to hit. Albbez is playing on the road, so you know that means he’s been facetiming with his pet fish. This guy owns a few home aquariums, and it’s no secret he likes talking to his fish when he’s away. In fact, Alb’s had cameras installed so he can check on the fish anytime he wants. Fouled off left side. One down, base is empty. And now two balls in a strike. And that’s a strike. Just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That one the other way and it goes just fouled. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. Ninth pitch of the at bat do next. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Sends it to first. So they get the out after a long battle at the plate. Six catcher Drake Baldwin. Drake Baldwin. Next up for the Braves and first offering is fouled off. Second inning here. No score. Swing a miss and it’s on two. No ball. Two strikes. And that one upstairs. Ball one. And the one two misses to even the count. [Music] And that one upstairs. line drive and that’s just foul. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Soderstrom and that is that. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And we’re back. Here’s the left fielder, Tyler Sodro. And singing we already know he’s going to finish the season with a new careerhigh in home runs. splits the plate and that’s strike one. Swings through that. Mike Filmore, our played umpire, very consistent with his zone. Chris, gets a lot of praise for that. He does, Boo. And I think that with any umpire, you really just want them to be consistent. Filmore’s a guy that does a good job back there in that way. So people around the league really appreciate his consistency. Two strike bows it off. Still one and two. Chris, do players ever change their approach in meaningful ways based on who’s umpiring or is it good to just be aware of tendencies so you’re not that surprised? I’d say the latter because pitcher’s got to pitch to his strengths regardless. The hitter’s got to hit to his strength. So you’re aware of it, but you have to just hunt for what you can handle. So now three and two. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. That one ripped and no one can get there. And that’s going to roll to the wall into second easily with a leadoff double. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. He got a pitch he could drive, but he didn’t get too excited like a lot of guys do and pull off the baseball. really good timing all the way through the swing and the barrel was so on playing with the ball. Easy drive into the gap for that double. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. Maxy stands in now and watches strike one. Sodrom leads off second with nobody out. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Nope. Outside. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. [Music] And a foul ball. He stays alive. And now it’s even up. These first two hitters really making him work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. Man at second. spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Music] Just misses the mark outside the zone. Really good take, especially with two strikes center field. White in position and he makes the catch and there’s one down. batting eight second baseman Zack Gellof. And now Zack Gellof looking for his first big league hit right here. [Applause] And the first pitch is drilled in the air out to center. White hauls it in for the out. Out number two batting ninth center fielder Denzel Clark. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Next up for the A’s, Denzel Clark. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively. Chris, and when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. Inside just missed. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position. And that’s what he does. Swinging a foul out of play. The hitting’s going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. pitch misses and that’s ball three. Three balls, one strike right through there for a strike. Cold night like tonight, last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end. Trying to find that sweet. And he got him. Strike three and that’ll retire the side. One hit, one left. We head on now to the top of the third. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. And now here’s the speed threat. Outfielder Eli White. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. First good strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper in there at the knees. Gets a piece and stays alive. passing it down. Blows the high heat pass. That’s a strike out. Finished him off by blowing it by him up high, but they did a really nice job of setting that pitch up. The plan of attack early on was to keep everything down around the knees. So that was a good call to change his eye level and run it by him for the K. Now in for the Braves. Steuart Fairchild. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. And there’s a ball. One out. Base is empty. headed towards the corner and a superb diving catch. Betty Knight is short stop Nick Allen and wow what a great diving catch. Singi Stackcast says that was a near perfect route and it had to be. That’s just a big part of his game. I mean this guy’s instincts just seem to always put him in a position to make special plays and right there he’s done it again. And the batter will be the shorts stop Nick Allen. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Top of the third, no score. Yeah, that’s fouled off. The shorts stop takes the ball. Ground ball up the middle. Gellof over to first and that is the inning. Nine straight retired here to start the game. No score. ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now the A’s designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. [Music] And that is downstairs and the count even one and one. Swinging a foul straight back. Not close with that one. The countdown two and two. and down on strikes and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Well, that’s a pitch that slider from an opposite handed pitcher that you usually see very well, but for some reason he didn’t pick it up and it just kind of got into the strike zone late. Gave up on it a little bit early. Wilson in the box for the second time. One ball, no strikes. Fast ball for a strike. Just missed. [Applause] That one missed. Though Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch account. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. That one is absolutely belted out of here. So, he goes yard to left and they jump out front. It’s one- nothing. This crowd is on fire right now. They’re going nuts thanks to that home run. [Applause] Well, Boo, clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean, that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. Did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. Next to hit, Brent Rooker and a foul ball. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone, and then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early, and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Curts stands in now, looks at that one inside [Applause] the other way, makes the grab, and that’s the inning. The A’s strike first as the A’s are on top. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back onto the fourth. Now a leadoff spot for the Braves. Jurgson Proar. Oh, that’s low. Profar 32 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. You know, these Braves just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Swings through that one for strike two. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond. And they just keep eating right out of your hand. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. Matt Olsen up to the plate 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. That clips a corner. Hole in one. [Applause] That one not close at a count one and two. This hitter’s been seeing good velocity in the at bat. He’s kind of set up for that change up. He hasn’t seen it yet. Looks just like a fast ball out of the hand. That misses the zone. Two balls, two strikes. Really nice slider right there. sweeping across the dish but just couldn’t hang the edge. Up and in. And the count is filled up. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. The kick, the 3-2, and that one hammered way back there. Out of here. [Music] He’ll circle the bases. His second homer of this series. It’s 1-1. How in the world did he managed to hit that one out? It wasn’t even in the strike zone. When you see a guy take a slider on the outside part of the plate and hit an opposite field home run fires you up because not only is he flexing the muscles to show the pop, that kind of approach, you’ll hit for a high average as well. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Here is Austin Riley flyed to right his first time. [Applause] [Applause] The one is outside and it’s a ball and a strike. [Applause] And a slider in there for a strike. One out. Base is empty and a run in. Top half of inning number four. in the air left field down the line and that’s a foul ball out to short fires to first in time. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run, not allowing it to stay in the head, but going to work at the next hitter. And a tough one at that. Here’s Shawn Murphy grounded out his first time. [Applause] That’s in for a strike. He must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down main street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. Swing to miss. Oh, two down. Quickly in an 02 count, you got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball. Put it in play somewhere. Then you got a chance. Next one misses going to count one and two. [Applause] Base hit. So Azie Albies now gets a chance with two gone. Azie Alb’s up to the plate. Grounded out his first time up in the dirt. Blocked. Goes to second and he’s into scoring position with two away on a wild pitch. Can’t imagine he’s too happy with that one on the mound. Just one pitch after giving up the single, he basically turns it into a double. Brother at second, two down. Grounds one to short. Wilson tosses across to first. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. But we’re all tied up thanks to this solo homer. Call even now at 1-1. Bottom of the fourth. And now the catcher comes up to him. Shay Langalers. Shay Langalers. That misses ball one. You know, these athletics showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. That one misses and now three and0. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahehead run. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Didn’t offer it. Now has somebody to worry about over at first. Now the left fielder Tyler Sodstrom doubled his first time up [Applause] right through there for a strike. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there. But left the bat on his shoulder. One and one. Outside low. Two and one. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. [Applause] That misses the zone. Three and one. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. And that is out of play with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Good job to fight that one off. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. And ball four to a board. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up very gritty. First and second, no outs. Next up for the A’s, Maxy 0 for one with a fly out to center. [Applause] Pitch misses inside. One and0 [Applause] swing and a miss. Looked off balance that time. One strike. Langelers at second. Soderstrom at first with no outs and fouled off that one missing inside. Two walks in the inning already and he just doesn’t seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them. [Applause] got him swinging for the strike out. Applies the tag and they get two. Double play. Well, you want to see guys aggressive out there on the base paths, but you also want to see them smart as well in making their decisions. And right there, couldn’t really tell how far away that ball was. So, if that’s the case, you got to shut it down. He gets caught stealing there, takes himself out of scoring position. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Get that first hit at the big league level. And he takes one right on the black one and one. [Music] And a breaking ball. Misses outside and a count one and two. [Applause] That one is upstairs. Runner at second. Two down. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Line drive. That’s a base hit. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single. They take the lead. It’s 2-1. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Two outs. Runner on first. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. And that’s in there at the knees. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Runner on the go. Pitch misses. Throw save. When your catcher is not in great work, you have to do a better job at controlling the running game. And that’s throwing over. That’s stepping off. Doing whatever you can to try to keep that base Steelers rhythm off. Well, they weren’t able to do it right there. They’re going to have to make some type of adjustment. Our players are going to be running all game. A’s leading by a run [Applause] and that’s downed away. [Applause] Fouls one off. Two and two. [Applause] [Applause] caught him looking for the K. So, a run-on one hit, no errors and a man left. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the A’s two and the Braves won. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the fifth. And here’s the catcher, Drake. Drake Baldwin Lopez back to work misses outside. Ball one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Mitch Spence, the young right-hander, up and throwing. Sears, the lefty, warming up as well. The lefty, the one. Looked like it was a little bit up. [Music] [Applause] on the ground and the lead off hitter retired in the fifth. A bet for Atlanta centerfielder Eli. Now here is Eli White. His first at bat was a strikeout baby. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch off the plate and the count is 2 and0. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. In there for a strike at the top of the zone. [Music] Next offering upstairs. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. swing and a liner foul off to the right. The Athletics up by a run and we’re in the top of the fifth outside and that is ball four. Oh, looking for a swing and miss right there or for the to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. One down. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Steuart Fairchild. He’s 0 for one. Ruer takes off. Pitch is low. Safe at second. And he easily steals the bag. And the tying run is now in scoring position. Well, he’s got a cannon of an arm back there behind the dish. A good accurate throw is just as important in controlling the running game. So maybe rushed his throw a little bit right there. didn’t finish it off. It was high and I think that’s what allowed the base runner to make it safely. That misses and that’s ball two. And you got to wonder with first base open, one out, is he going to get a pitch to hit? Line drive and this might be trouble. Runner around third. He’ll score. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Go ahead, run on base. And now it’s going to be Nick Allen. There’s a strike. Oh, and one. Fairchild the runner at second with one away. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That one almost got him. [Applause] Smashed to the left side. Zips it across and they got him. Now batting left fielder Jurgson profile manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Jacob Lopez won’t go any further tonight and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching the new pitcher in the game Mitch Spence number 28. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big RA. So this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position and next for Atlanta Jurgson Profar. [Applause] That pitch gets the inside corner strike. Two outs and one at scoring position. Ruer breaks for third. Come on and miss. Throw to third and that will end the inning. The Braves add one of the RBI double. Two two game. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth. And taking over on the mound, Bryce Elder. Still pretty early in the ball game. So this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs, kind of bridge the gap that starter left. Back to the top of the order now. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. And a foul ball. You know, these A’s looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on, but it just hasn’t happened for them yet. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position. So, a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. Good eye on that spot. [Applause] Swang in a line drive. Ripped right center field. White tracks it down for the out. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run. And we saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. Wilson in the box now. No balls in a strike. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. That one ripped. It gets into the corner, but it’s fouled. No, good solid contact right there. Just a bit out in front of that fast ball. Got to try to stay on that back side just a little bit longer and see if you can do some damage. [Applause] Pitch misses there. Now one and two [Music] inside. Just missed. [Applause] Ripped on a line to center. White makes the catch. Two down. Now batting right fielder. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. Go for two in this one. First pitch misses. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Next pitch is outside. [Applause] Swinging a foul straight back. Well, you put good velocity in the head of the hitter. He’s got to get it ready early and then change speeds. Keep them off balance. That’s the goal. Albees throws to first. Three up, three down, inning over. So, they go quietly there. We’re through five. We are tied 2-2. And we’re back. Start of the six. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading off, Juren Proar Juren Proar. Get out of here, please. inside and it’s one and0 action in the pen down there. Shawn Nukem, a lefty looks to be getting himself ready. Harris getting cranked up as well. That missed by a lot. Two balls, no strikes. Proofar gets a piece there. Swing and that ball smashed on the line. Foul ball. I can’t lose. fights it off. He’ll see another [Music] [Applause] [Applause] and a payoff pitch. That one ripped right center field. going back at the wall. Can’t make the catch, but I think he brought it back. Oh, it’s gone. It bounced off them and over the wall. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage, even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. Here is Matt Olsen. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Next pitch misses and the count is one and one. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. The 1-1 is fouled off. Here’s the pitch to Olsen. Fights that one away. Still one and two. [Applause] fouled off and they’ll do it again. [Applause] Oh, that’s out. [Applause] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Ninth pitch of the at bat due next. [Applause] Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. [Music] That one blasted deep to right. Going back on this one. Pulls it in on the warning track. Now batting third base Austin Riley. The batter now Austin Riley. Riley was a kid in high school that was scouted by most teams as a pitcher. In fact 95% of the teams wanted him as a pitcher and I actually asked him were you interested in being drafted as a pitcher. And he told me directly no I hated it. My arm hurt all the time. He swings and drives one out to deep left field and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases to second. Pulls him off the bag. All over that one right there. This was a really nice swing. Didn’t quite get enough behind it to get it out of here, but once it got over his head in left field, it was extra bases all the way. Now the Atlanta cleanup hitter Shawn Murphy one for two off the mark there. Ball one. Riley over at second. One down [Applause] and there’s a foul ball. [Applause] The next offering misses now. Two balls in a strike [Applause] out of the ground to third. Whips it to first. That’s out number two. Deceptive slider right there. Stayed in the tunnel a long time. Got that hitter out front. Rolled over it. Put it on the ground. And now it’s the switch hitting second baseman. Azy Albies has grounded out a couple of times. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Braves get one on the big fly. It’s now a 32 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom of the sixth inning. And here is Nick Curts swaging a drive deep left field. This one’s got a chance and it slams off the bottom of the wall into second base. The tying run is on with a leadoff double. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. put a great swing on it and man he wasn’t fooled at all. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. [Applause] Runner in scoring position. No outs. Shay Langalers up next for the A’s. Check swing called strike with the tying run at second here in the bottom of the sixth [Applause] up the middle offbalance throw in time. One away bottom of the six. Now batting left fielder. Here comes the manager out of the Braves dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Bryce Elder done for the night and he leaves a runner at third. So we’ll see how the next pitcher deals with that when we get back. Now pitching. Here comes a new arm for the Braves, Austin C. And this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of him right here to get some critical outs. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstroke. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an end that could change the course of this game dramatically. Fought off foul. [Applause] [Applause] Yeah, that’s outside, man. Oh man, I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. [Applause] Liner. And this could be trouble. In to score is the runner from third. Back even. It’s 33 and he’s into second base with one away as the go ahead run. Well, we’re starting over again. All tied up. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. One out, runner at second. Now the third baseman, Maxy down and away for ball one. [Applause] man at second. Oh, that’s outside. [Applause] Ripped to short. Slings to first in time. Now batting second baseman Zack Gellof. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Now it’s the second baseman Zack Gill. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run and he can’t come up with it. Still able to fire over and save. couldn’t recover from the misplay. Well, with two outs, I’m thinking he had his mind on getting in the dugout so they could get to hitting. All it takes is just a little lapse in concentration. So, now let’s see if his pitcher will pick him up. Here’s a speed threat. Denzel who’s for two with a pair of strikeouts. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Fast for a strike. Sodro on third. Gell on it first with two down. [Applause] [Music] That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. Just missed with a good breaking ball in. looking for that hitter to chase and perhaps get some weak contact or swing and miss. Good job on both sides. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Line to left and it stays there. One runs in around third. In there he’s safe by three now. Oh, a huge two RBI swing of the bat right there. turned on that inside pitch nicely and ripped it down the line to pick up two bases. That can be a tough pitch to keep fair, but his timing is great. So, runner at second, two down. Now, the A’s designated hitter, Lawrence Butler, one for three. And that is in for a strike. 0 and one. The A’s looking to add another and that one fouled off. One ball movement in the Atlanta bullpen. Dazbell Hernandez getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Do Santos also throwing [Applause] just good pitch there. Clearly had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] in the air. Center field. White coming on. He’s got it. And that will end the inning. But three score in the inning. Two of them on this two-run double. It’s now 53. Back after this on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Shawn Nukem, left-handed batter at the plate, and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Here’s the catcher, Drake. Catcher, Drake Baldwin. Baby, let’s go. Foul ball there. Nukem in his sixth season, 31 years old and they traded for him earlier this year to the right side. Curts the flip to the pitcher covering one up, one down. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff, just like we saw. Now in for the Braves. Eli White. He is struck out and he is walked. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Man, I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Next offering is in for a strike. Base is empty. One away here in the top half of inning number seven. And this is inside. fouls it off. Still one and two. Stays alive. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. Breaking ball inside. And now two balls and two strikes in the air right field. And there’s two away for right fielder Stewart Fairchild. And now the right fielder Stewart Fairchild. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think just makes the play and it’s out number three. Braves are set down 1 2 three. They’re still down 53. [Music] Now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Dave Bell Hernandez Hernandez just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. So digging in, Jacob Wilson. He’s already homeed in this game. The MMO for him is contact. A guy who’s going to deliver average, not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Well, that’s why it’s a team. I mean, when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate. [Music] Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. just really impressive because there’s certain times the ball comes off the bat, automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Swinging a miss at a slider. Two two count. Still two and two after the foul ball. Tapped back up the middle. Throw on to Olsen and one away in the bottom of the seven. Good late bite on that slider. Got the hitter out in front. Rolled over on it. Exactly what it was supposed to do. Brent Rooker now at the plate. hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So, a man aboard now with one away. He was all over that one. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. Ball one, no strikes. Rooker, the base runner at first with one out. Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. Swanging a miss as he was out front that time. And a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball and now the catcher comes up to him. Shay Langalers. Hey, this is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. That one’s in there. And that is strike one. You come into the game knowing that unless the ball’s in the dirt or gets by him, we’re probably not going to steal anything today. So, that’s where you want to get a little more aggressive on your secondary lead and hope that some base hits, some slog, some home runs can come into play. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Two outs and a swing and a miss and that’s that. The A’s strand one and it remains 5-3. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Hogan Harris. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Now Nick Allen, he’s grounded out a couple of times. That one misses. Ball one. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Bob Sosa getting loose out there. Sears also getting ready. the one and a foul ball. Well, I’ll say this as a former position player and base steeler. When you come into a game and you’ve got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm, you really have to change your approach. Can’t try to steal cuz you’ll get thrown out. Maybe get a little bigger lead, be aggressive on the secondary, but this type of guy shuts the running game down. Short stop takes the ball. Two balls, two strikes [Applause] in the dirt. Three and two now. And so the lefty allows the leadoff free pass and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Jere’s Proar. He’s already homerred here in this one. They hope he’s the guy to spark a comeback. He tends to play better when his team is behind, so why not him? Just that one fouled off with the tying run at the plate. And we’re in the top of the eighth. lifted in the air right center field. Rooker, he’s got it. And there’s one down. Yeah, the batter now, Matt Olsson. First base. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. And there are two down. Now batting third baseman Austin Riley. So here’s Riley now. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. Baby, let’s go. Just missed. Next offering misses. And now two and 0. Two and0. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. This one driven deep way back there and it’s gone. We are tied. He sends it out of here. His 14th of the year and we’re level. It’s 55. This game is breathing new life thanks to that home run and that’s exactly what they needed with a low 90s fast ball. You have to live on the edges and hit your spot. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient and waited for it. It was like BP all over again. Shawn Murphy digs in now. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. Highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. Back and forth we go. A seessaw battle in the late stages of this one. Right through there for a strike. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another [Applause] foul ball still 0 and two. Now he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. Create just a little bit of illusion at the end. That’s too low and it’s one and two. 02 count. You’ve got the opportunity to expand the zone. Could get the chase there. Let’s see what he comes back with next. The one two swing and a miss and he got him. And that is that. But this clutch home run gets us even again. All even at five a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Raphael Montero. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Tyler Soderstrom getting ready to hit. Athletic left fielder Tyler Soderstrom. [Applause] A change up missing. And that’s ball one. Movement in the bullpen. Aaron Bummer, the left-hander, is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go. [Applause] Oh, he can’t hang on. Still manages a throw and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Now batting third baseman Maxy. So up next, Maxy 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. had a strike in there. And one’s looking to put the go-ahead run on base. And that one is inside ball one. [Applause] Late swing fouled off. He’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. See if he can elevate one. I think if he does, he’ll get the swing and miss. That misses the zone and the count even up [Applause] upstairs. Sack Gella in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Three and two now. This one popped up right side. Olsen pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s two away. Now batting second baseman Zack Gellof. Zack Gellof up next for the A’s. Baby, let’s go. And that misses and it’s one and0. Swings through that one out in front that time. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And that one’s a little bit low. And the count two and one on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Three up, three down for him there. Through eight full. We’re all tied up 55. Now, welcome back. And here comes the closer, Bob Soé on for his major league debut and a moment he will never forget. Better believe that. It’s always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game. I did it as a position player, but for him as a pitcher, I’m sure there’s some nerves there. Probably don’t want to squeeze the baseball too tight. Just relax and do what you’re capable of doing. Next pitch way upstairs. Swinging a drive deep right field. That one’s got a chance. Get out of town. His seventh home run of the season. It’s 65. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one, Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. [Applause] Well, he almost robbed the home run right there. And I tell you what, he’d love another crack at it. During batting practice, you always like to work on that. And so close. But that one was just out of his reach. Drake Baldwin next up for the Braves. 0 for three in this one. Just missed. [Applause] out towards right center field. Clark sizing this one up. He makes the grab and there’s one down. Now batting center Eli. Here’s the center fielder Eli White. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Nice change up. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Number 49, the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. Missed with a change up. One and one. That one fouled off. [Music] One down. Base is empty. Sit down on strikes. That was pretty nasty. Now it’s the right fielder Stewart Fairchild. Stewart Fairchild. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. Next offering upstairs. [Applause] Fast for a strike. Got a big swing and a miss. Two down base is empty but one run across here in the top of the ninth. Had a good eye there. [Applause] Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Now batting smash that one through the infield for the nine. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Nick Allen out to short. Boots it gets off a throw and no shot to get him at first. There’s two aboard. Now batting left fielder Juriken Profar. Here’s the switch hitting left fielder Juriken Profar. He had a big swing back in the six. The solo shot that figures into this game in a pretty big way right now. Yeah, that was a big swing of the bat and he’s going to be looking for more. Trying to add on to this lead right here. Fast ball for a strike at 95. [Music] Swing and a pop up. Wilson, he’s there. He’s got it. And that’ll do it. And some late inning drama here in the ninth as this homer gives them the lead. It’s tightened up a bit at 65 now. Major League Baseball is on the show. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Religius. This guy’s a strikethrower. He’s done an excellent job of avoiding walks so far this season. Denzel Clark now at the plate. This guy a player that if he gets on base has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base paths. [Applause] That’s inside. That’s inside. right through there for a strike. Trying to keep good speed off the bases. [Applause] Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field. So now back to the top of the order. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. And now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Now it’s the DH. Lawrence Butler rolled softly, but that goes foul. A oneun lead and the home team trying to pull it out. hit on the ground. Might be two. One at second out onto Olsson. That’s two. Now, well, that’s a huge ball in play to get the double play defensively. Just one more guy to get this save for the closer. So, it’s their last chance in this one now. The number two hitter, Jacob Wilson. The shorts stop takes a ball [Applause] looking to get the tying run on base. And there’s a ball. Well, an interesting situation. One swing, you can tie up the ball game, but if you’re patient and work a walk, then you bring the game-winning run to the plate. That one close. Rule the ball. Three and O. Big pitch coming right here. Last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base, but he can’t groove one either. Paul and that’ll keep the line moving. Definitely lost the handle during that sequence. Four pitches for the walk. And that last one didn’t even threaten the zone. Catcher might want to go talk to him. [Applause] fouled off down the right side. Two outs and that is out of play. The A’s down to their final strike. Three. Got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, B, four games wasn’t too long of a losing streak, but they’re definitely happy to be back in the win column. Now, you can turn things around, get on the right track, and probably start a winning streak from here. 65 the final here today for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shambi saying so long.
