MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 6, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

just about set to go now. Starting in this one, Eduardo Rodriguez. What do we have on him? Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip. But he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in a position to win a ball game. So, we know he’s prepared. We know this guy is a competitor and we’ll watch how he works in this one. Jonathan India the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one. Next offer in there for a strike and it’s one and one. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. The one two got him swinging for the strike out. Chase the basketball up the ladder for strike three. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. [Applause] Now here’s Bobby Wit Jr. First pitch misses. And that one fouled off. ripped to third and caught. And here now the lineup for the Royals and something they’ve talked about needing to improve on moving forward is their ability to apply consistent pressure. Chris, right now it’s not a club that gets on base enough. And sometimes, Boo, you just need a hitter to go up there and grind out and at bat, maybe have 11, 12 pitches, and all of a sudden, players get fired up in the dugout, and they want to do the same thing. And before you know it, you start to get base runners on, and you get a big hit, and all of a sudden, you ride that wave for a few days and go on a winning streak. That’s something they definitely could use. Line to left and a base hit. And that keeps the inning going. Batting fourth, third baseman, Michaelel Garcia. And now it’ll be the cleanup spot for the Royals. Mikel Garcia inside. And that’s ball one. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Next one off the plate inside and the count. Two and one. And that one is inside. So now two on and two outs. Batting fifth, centerfielder Salvador Perez. First and second, two outs. And next up for the Royals, Salvador Perez. Swinging a ground ball. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly, but they get the out at first. And that’ll do it for the inning. Royals strand a pair. And now the Diamondbacks will get their first turn at bat. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here at Chase Field and towing the slab in this one, Chris Bubich. Yeah, and as Whip tells you, he’s been pretty effective this year on the mound. I mean, opposing hitters having a hard time getting on base and then being able to really distract him and do damage in terms of getting around the base path. So, taking the mound, this is a guy you want out there if you’re his teammate and I expect him to be good in this one. Bottom of the first, Marte up to the plate. Justice That’s a strike across the top of the zone. There’s a swing and a drive that’s back there. Bangs off the wall around first and hustling for second. They’re still chasing it as he rounds second and he makes it into third with a leadoff triple. [Applause] Anytime you smoke a ball off the wall, you kind of think about what it could have been, but obviously you have to be happy with that result. [Applause] And now the shorts stop. Peraldo Peromo. The shorts stop takes the ball. 10. line drive and this might be trouble. Run scores easily and it’s one- nothing. Comes through with the RBI. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it otherwise it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Now up next for Arizona, Lordis Guriel Jr. Tapper back to the mound gets it to first. One gone. Bottom half of the first hitter. Now the Diamondback slide up as put together by Tory Lavell. They’re dealing with a top level arm on the mound. So this figures to be a tough matchup for them. What’s the key to the offense today, Singy? Well, Boo, I think when you got a guy that’s this talented on the mound, you got to find ways to disrupt his rhythm, make him uncomfortable a little bit. The guys that can handle the bat and perhaps, you know, bunt bunt for a base hit, get him moving off the mound. If you’re in the box and he seems to be just in a flow, step out, mess up his timing somehow try to get in his head a little bit and then when he does come in the zone, you may only get one pitch. You better not miss it. Out number two. That was a good pitch to hit right down the hard of the plate. had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Here’s Josh Naylor and Singi as a team you need to make the most of the very few opportunities he’s going to give you. Right. Absolutely. And and you know, if you don’t get to guys like this a lot of times early, once they really settle in, it’s going to be the later innings that they hand that ball over to a reliever if they do at all. The pitch that’s in there. [Music] The 1-1 is fouled offo at second with two down. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Ripped towards third, throws across the diamond. They limit the damage here. Dex with a runscoring double. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Back here in the desert. Second inning set to go. So, here’s the Royals DH, Jack Kaggle Leone. Rodriguez back to work. Kaggle Leone in his rookie season, 22 years old, a former first round pick in 2024. And another ball. James Kingsley, our played umpire. Consistent and maybe a little generous on the edges. Yeah, Boo. He’ll give a little bit on the edges like you said, but from what I’ve seen, he usually does that when a pitcher is just commanding those parts of the strike zone and essentially they’ve earned it. The umpire rolls with them. Climb the ladder with that fast ball. They’re now three in one. swings and lines a base hit into left field. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. You’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Here’s Mark Canam. slashes this one and it could be trouble into second and he’s got a double. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Freddy Fine steps in for the Royals. Right through there for a strike. And that is downstairs. One and one. Base runners at second and third here. No outs. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. He’s under it. Makes the catch for the That’s a frustrating at bat right there. Big opportunity and just missed it. I know he wanted to do some damage. Next guy have to pick him up. So up now for Kansas City, John Ray. In the grand scheme of things, this at bat might not feel important because it’s early, but it could create a domino effect for things to come. Control what you can here and have a strong at immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. And a swing and a miss. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Going to count one and two. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Strike him out looking. Well, they were pretty much giving it to him right there. Playing the infield bad. All you’re looking for on offense is a simple ground ball. You got a tie ball game. Not sure what he was thinking up there. Strike out looking is the last thing you want to see. Now you got to hope the next guy can pick you up and come through with a big two out hit. Jonathan Indie at the plate. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Right down to shoot. Strike one. Two outs. That one the other way. And it goes just foul. Sea strikes him out for the second time today. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. We head to the bottom of the second. Randle Britick now right fielder Randic fought off foul. [Applause] chopped left side, zips it to first. Lead off man retired here in the second. Batting seventh, third baseman, Blaze Alexander. Next to hit, Bla1 Alexander and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Bubich, he’s become known as a guy that’s really tough to take deep. And that is especially valuable today, Chris, when the ball’s going out of the ballpark so much. slice the other way. That’s a base hit. He’s a fast ball savant with the bat, which is really helpful in today’s game. Fast balls aren’t getting any easier to hit these days. One gone runner at first. And here’s the rookie center fielder. It’s very important. It’s all about run prevention, right? So, uh when you have that, it’s a plus. But if you are going to give up the long ball, you want the bases to be empty. And that’s where control and command really comes into play for a guy like this. Swinging and a miss. Strike one. Oh, and one just missed man at first. One away. running for a strike. Safe in second and he easily steals the bag. Well, we all know this team is struggling right now and sometimes you just got to do something different to generate some offense. A little more aggressive right there to put the pressure on the opponent. We’ll see if it pays off on the scoreboard for this team. Next pitch is inside now. Two and two. [Applause] The other way. Oh, he gloves it. Wow, that was an awesome leaping catch. Great reaction, great athleticism, man. He snatched that thing out of the air and he robbed him of a base hit. Now the Dback’s catcher, Jose Herrera. That one inside. And that’s ball one. Fast ball is outside. Well, out there on the mound. He’s got to go right after this hitter because you don’t want to turn this lineup over. This is the guy that you’ve got to get that final out. Get out of this inning in the dirt. Catel Marte waiting to hit for the Dbacks. Alexander stands at second with two gone. That one finds the zone and it’s three and one and ball four two aboard. Now batting second base. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte. He started the bottom of the first with a triple and later scored. Boo. Here’s someone that loves playing at home and who can blame him. His numbers are historically better. And he’s already one for one out of the shoot. Way high. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. A little bit high down to good spot for the hitter. definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Heraldo Peromo on deck for Arizona. That pitch gets the inside corner and now three and one. I mean that’s perfect location right on the black. I mean, over and over again, this guy demonstrates the ability to hit those spots. They’re so tough to do anything with as a hitter and they’re all loaded up. Well, the stage has been set for this offense, boo. It’s all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here. Two outs, bases full. Haldo Purdomo, the next to hit. Doubled his first time up. rolled softly, but that goes foul. Base is loaded. Two down and he’s down 02 as he swings through it. this to third out to escape a bases loaded jam unscathed. So they load the bases on just one hit but can’t get anyone across. We play two full. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing. New inning getting started. Leading off Bobby Wit Jun Bobby Wit Jun. Pitch misses and it’s one and0. Ball one. No strike. Just missed. Next offering is in for a strike. and he chases that one below the zone. Cut on and lifted in the air on his way over and there’s one down. [Applause] Now batting the first baseman Vinnie Pascantino. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. One for one with a single so far. Liner and this could be trouble around first. Digging for two. The throw into second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Well, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep, took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Now here is Mikel Garcia. He reached out to walk his first time and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. [Music] He had a foul ball. Just a slow ground ball this time for Domo. Fires to first on the run and it beats him. What a play. [Applause] And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Grounded out his first time. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. Late swing. Fouled off. Two outs with a runner at third. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two on the ground to third. Slings it across. And that is that. No runs, one hit, a double, no errors, and one man left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing. And we’re back. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jun. Diamondbacks left fielder Lordis Guriel Jr. And a foul ball. That one ripped but foul. [Applause] Next offering is downstairs. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. One and two now. That’s towards center. Perez has this one sized up and he makes the catch. One down. Now batting designated hitter AU Suarez up to the plate now. First time up was a pop out. And there’s a ball. Next pitch in for a strike and one and one. Ground ball right side and foul ball. One down, base is empty and that’s downstairs. They’re now two balls and two strikes. That’s down and in. [Applause] Inside ball four. Boo. If I were him, I’d be nibbling around the plate as well. I mean, this guy’s just capable of hitting pitches outside of his own zone and driving them a long way. man at first with one gone. And now it’s Josh Naylor. He’s 0 for one. Ball one there. Whoa. That’s down. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. from pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play, but in this count he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches, and get back into this at bat. Six straight outside the strike zone. Highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. Suarez the base runner at first with one out. [Applause] And ball four, two aboard. Gosh, another walk in this one. Man, he is having some real issues with control. Right fielder. First and second, one out. And now the right fielder, Randall Gritic. [Applause] That one’s in there. And that is strike one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And the count even one and one. Close pitch there. And he’s kind of wondering where it missed. You know, getting a feel for each umpire’s strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from at bat to bat. And it is two and one. It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. That one at the knees for a strike. Runners at first and second with one gone here in the last half of the third. and he chases that one. Two out. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. And here is Bla1 Alexander. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. He’s there. He’s got it. And that will end the inning. Two left on. Three innings complete. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Jack Kaggle Leone. And that one fouled off. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. That was a wellexecuted slider away for the strikeout right there. First two pitches filled up the zone and got him ahead 02 in the count. And at that point you can start expanding the zone as a pitcher. He made him chase and got the quick strike out. Mark Cana getting ready to hit. Doubled in his first AB. Swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field. That’ll touch down for a hit and it gets by him. Round second. Digging for third. The relay throw. Tag. Got him. Aggressive base running there trying to take advantage of the defense, but he’s out at third. Absolutely perfect execution of the relay right there to cut him down at third. And he probably should have shut it down at second base and been happy with the double, but it took a great play to get him. You just have to tip your cap. And now it’s going to be Freddy Fine. 0 for one as he popped out foul to third his first time up. Just missed. Counts one and0. on the corner for a strike on the ground to short. The slide and play at short over to first and that’s a nice play to end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing. Back here at Chase Field and now the center fielder number 13. Center fielder number 13. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. You know, these Dbacks showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. The numbers kind of speak for themselves with the four walks. They’ve done a great job of not trying to do too much and just staying disciplined. And there’s one away. Another thing I love is how they’ve allowed the game to come to them. They’re not forcing the issue when they’re on offense. And when you force and get anxious, it starts being a lot more likely that you’ll let those pitchers off the hook. And first offering is fouled off line drive caught. Nothing you can do about those as a hitter. Even though you know that they still drive you absolutely crazy. So the lineup flips over digging in Cel Marte first pitch and he just misses. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. right through there for a strike. And that’s in the dirt and it’s fouled away. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Diamondbacks down quickly, but they still lead it one- nothing. Back here in the desert, all set for the start of the inning. And to the plate for Kansas City, John Ra Rodriguez back to work ripped to third and caught. Well, baseball can be cool, can’t it? I mean, sometimes it gives and sometimes it takes away. He did everything right on that swing, but he’s got nothing to show for. So, the Royals batting order turns over. Jonathan India steps in for the Royals, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. base knock center field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Well, he’s been working out of the stretch just about the entire game. A lot of base runners on against him and he’s just done a really nice job of scattering the hits, not giving up any runs, but at some point your luck usually runs out. Bobby Wit Jr. digs in now. Runner on the go. Pitch inside. The throw. Tag and he’s out. I got to admit, I’m kind of shocked he got caught stealing right there because of how big the lead was over at first base. Catcher doesn’t throw very well either, but for whatever reasons things came together and they got the out at second. Really impressive job, I’d say. Two out space is empty. Next offering is in for a strike. You know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. On the ground to first, Naylor. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Still nothing on the scoreboard for him after five. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Royals nothing. And we’re back. Stepping in is the switch hitting shortstop permo. And that one clips the corner, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Foul ball there. [Applause] Misses inside. One and two count. [Applause] on the ground right side. India tosses to first and the lead off man set down in their half of the left fielder Lordis Guriel Jr. Here’s Guriel. Guriel measures 6’4 in 31 years old and he was born in Cuba. They say you win. 01’s the count. That’s too low. And it’s one and one. That one missed. Two balls, one strike. Strike two. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. spoils that one and it remains two and two. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field and there’s two down now batting designated hitter au Suarez up to hit now he’s 0 for one foul Oh, swag and a miss. No balls, two strikes. Next pitch is outside. O2 fast way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. And they’ll do it again. The one two. Good job to fight that one off. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Good eye right there. And that one is downstairs. Counts full. Three and two. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Got him looking. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. So, one, two, three go to Diamondbacks, but they’re on top one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And here is Vinnie Pascantino. fast for a strike. Oh, this guy on the mountain’s done a lot better than we would have expected. And the hitters just don’t seem to have the right game plan. They’re taking too many mistake pitches for called strikes. The change up missing. Ball one. And strike two. One ball, two strikes and just misses with that one. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Drilled to right way back there and that is gone. That should get the dugout going and they tie it up. It’s 1-1. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the booth. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Now here is Mikel Garcia. There’s the strike. Oh, you just got to delete it. You give up that lead off home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Next offering is fouled back and that is downstairs. It’s a ball in two strikes. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Salvador Perez will hit next. Grounded out a couple of times. Pitch misses outside and that is ball one. One out. Space is empty and another ball. There’s the strike of the knees and it’s two and one. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. Just missed. Well, it’s been a very impressive outing so far. His command has been a big part of it. Even when he misses, he misses outside the strike zone, which is exactly what a pitcher wants. And that’s ball four. Ball four. Now batting number 14. The batter now, Jack Pegleó. One for two. clips the corner. That’s strike one. The Diamondbacks with some movement in the pen. Ryan Thompson up from throwing for manager Tory Lavello. Curtis warming up as well. That one close. Ruled the ball. And now it’s even one and one. That one missing inside. Perez leads off first with one away. That one misses. And now three balls and a strike. Mark Kenna in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And ball four, two aboard. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast. Now the Diamondbacks manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Eduardo Rodriguez will depart. Just never found his groove. Wasn’t able to settle in. New arm coming on. Back in a moment. Now pitching Anthony Dafani on a pitch out of the pen here. Number 21. Anthony Dlani. Two on, one out. Mark Cana now at the plate. got the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play. Boo. The 01 and that’s in for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Two on, one out. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Gets a piece and stays alive. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. Ground ball could be two, one at second. What a double play that was. Inning over and KC draws even on this solo blast. All even at one a piece. back here at Chase Field. And here’s the first base, Josh Naylor. First baseman, Josh Naylor. That one fouled off. Well, these Diamondbacks finding ways to get on base, but they still need help driving them home. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position, so a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. And a quick out number one. Now batting right fielder Randall Gritic. Randall Gritic stands in now for the Diamondbacks. and a strike on the outside edge. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. lifted in the air out to left and a couple of quick outs. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. on the ground and that’s just foul. Two down to and that’s in there for a strike and quickly nothing at two. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. cut out and miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Nothing doing for Arizona. Score remains tied 1-1. We go to the top of the seventh. So up now for Kansas City. Freddy for me. And the pitch a little bit low. Ball one. And another ball. Just missed. in for a strike and the count is three and one. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. Naylor steps on first for the out. Now batting right fielder John Ray. John Rae steps in for the Royals. Bowl for two in this one. clips the corner and that’s strike one. Bases empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. Late swing fouled to the left. [Music] Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two foul ball left side. He’ll see another. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Next offering down low and in the dirt. still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. One down, base is empty. And a rope into center field. Base hit. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Go ahead run on base. Now it’s the second baseman, Jonathan India. Pitch misses inside. One and0. Dfani over to first and he’s back safely. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike. Strike one. Here’s the pitch. Runner goes swing and a miss. Safe at second with a stolen base. And the go ahead run is now in scoring position right through there. Got him. Now two away. Nice work there to get the strike out. And that’s a big second out. I’ll tell you, this whole crowd will be fired up. They can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. Bobby Wit Jr. the next to hit. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. Right through there for a strike. The 01 late swing fouled off. Two down. Go ahead run at scoring position. Check swing. Appeal to first. No swing. Just held it back there. popped up middle of the diamond. Makes the grab and that’s the third out. Royals leave one. Still tied 1-1. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Sam Long now pitching for Kansas City. Number 73, Sam Long. Here’s the center fielder. Off for the Diamondbacks, center fielder number 13. That one the other way. And foul ball that misses the zone. One and one action in the pen down there. Taylor Clark preparing to come on if needed. There’s a 1-1 swing at a highfly ball right field. Ray makes the catch. One away. Now batting catcher Jose Herrera. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Jose Herrera. And a strike to the outside corner at 95. [Music] and ball one. [Applause] Next offering upstairs all tied up here in the bottom of the seventh. [Applause] That one misses. Three and one now. And that one misses outside. It’s ball four. Second walk of the game for him. And he’s been really patient to play a game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Back to the top of the order. Catel Marte stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Outfield deep here trying to prevent anything over their heads. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] And the lefty with the 01. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going [Applause] on its way to the corner and that will drop foul. Hit weakly on the ground down the line and it’s foul. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headto head. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each. Oh, and that deflects off his glove to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. A perfect example right there. That plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. Peraldo Peromo digs in now in there at the knees for a strike. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. breaking ball inside and that’s ball one. The shorts stop takes the ball. Two balls, one strike. Next offering is down low. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. Lordis Goreel Jr. in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two on one out. Liner caught at second. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. And it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. That was just eight on the first pitch fast ball. That’s to third to second India and we stay tied as the inning ends. Diamondback strand a pair. Score remains deadlocked at one. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Ryan Thompson. Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit for any pitch so far this season. And now Vinnie Pasquantino. It may be a long shot, but a triple here will give him the cycle. swing and a tapper that rolls foul. 01 now. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Brings it in. One up, one down. Now batting third baseman, Mel Garcia. Mikel Garcia steps in for the Royals. In there and it’s 0 and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Shelby Miller appears to be getting loose. And there’s a ball. [Applause] and misses inside. And that one ripped to left. And that’s a fair ball. And he’s into second base with one away as the go ahead run. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Just a really nice job of turning on that pitch and smoking it down the line and there’s no one playing there. So once it drops in fair, you’re on your way to extra bases. Now a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later innings. Perez in the box now. Takes strike one. with the go-ahead run standing at second and we’re in the top of the eighth. Outside low, one ball, one strike. The guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. [Applause] [Applause] Just a weak fly ball this time. Marte going after it. Pulls it down and they’re two away. That’s a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch. We all know it was going to be a little tricky, especially if the wind’s swirling around out there. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. Next is the designated hitter, Jack Peg Leone. And that’s through there for a strike. One. Pretty good pitch. Backed up a little bit, expecting it to go middle away and it just sort of stayed on the inside corner. Probably good take cuz he would have gotten jammed had he swung the bat. And cut out and miss and it’s on two. Nope, that’s inside. Garcia at second with two down. And that just misses. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. A sliding stop. Gathers and throws. Nicely done for the owl. One hit, one left. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. All tied 1-1. Now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Taylor Clark. This guy’s a strikethrower. He’s done an excellent job of avoiding walks so far this season. Au Heno Suarez getting ready to hit. He’s a big strong guy. Can untie this game with one swing. Up the middle. India over to first in time and a key out leading off the bottom of the eighth. Now batting first baseman Josh. So digging in Josh Naylor. That one’s in there. 0 and one. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike at 95. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Michael Laorenzan up and throwing. [Applause] One down, base is empty. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, I don’t think there’s a hitter alive that hasn’t at some point succumb to that pitch right there. It just looks like it’s in the zone the entire way and then the top spin and gravity take over in the blink of an eye. And it’s just such a tough pitch to lay off of. Now it’s going to be Randall Gritic. And the slider just misses. Clark 31 years old and he was a third round pick back in 2015. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Two-1. swing and a chopper out to short. Whit over to first and Arizona is set down. One, two, three. Diamondbacks down quickly. It’s the ninth and we are tied. All set to start the ninth in this one. And to the plate for Kansas City, Mark Cana. Thompson back to work. Swing and a miss. 0 and one. Wow. No fair right there. I mean that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just going to have to tip your cap on that pitch. [Applause] [Applause] And that one is lifted in the air. Sizes this one up. Brings it in. And there’s one down. As good as he’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand, you cannot hang a breaking ball right there. Lucky it stayed in the ballpark. Next is the Royals catcher, Freddy Fine. on the ground to third. Alexander slings to first in time. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. So, they’re making a move for a bat off the bench. Kyle Isbel trying to get something going for him with two away. to third. Dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and they catch a break as they get a base runner at first. Now batting second base Jonathan India. Go ahead run on base. Jonathan India will hit next. Close one. doesn’t get the call and that’s ball one. Now moved to first. Isel back in on a dive. Two gone. The possible go ahead run at first. And another ball. [Applause] [Applause] and that misses. Three balls in a strike. Bobby Whit Jr. in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. 3-1 is on the way on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So no runs here in a base hit. No errors and one left. Bottom part of the order. 789 two up in inning number nine. All tied 1-1. Back here in the desert, stepping in, Bla1 Alexander. And a slider in there for a strike. Movement in the bullpen. Carlos Estz getting loose out there. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look. Slider got him for a strike three. Well, clearly just anxious right there. And understandably so. O2 count, you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your SW. Tory Lavell making a move for a new bat. Pave Smith looking to start something with one gone. [Applause] And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. Base is empty. One away here in the last half of inning number nine. Gets the outside corner with that one. Back door him with the breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. And that one upstairs. That’s down and in. Jose Herrera in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. And he pumps in a strike. We got a full count. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Tremendous job of bringing that ball back over the plate. He gets just enough of it to get the call. And tell you what, as a hitter, it starts out of the zone. It looks really far away. And for it to catch the outside corner, you just have to tip your cap to the pitcher. And now here is Jose Herrera. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Music] Trying to send this to extra innings. [Applause] That one finds the zone and it’s one and two. All tied up. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Good eye in that spot. Swings through for the K. That’s the third out and we’re headed to extras. Now pitching. The closer summon from the bullpen, Shelby Miller. Well, he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season, averaging more than one per McCarthy into the game as a defensive sub now and he’ll take over. Runner in scoring position. No outs with now at the plate. Third base playing on the edge of the grass looking for the sack bunt. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And that’s down and away. Two balls. No. [Applause] swing and a miss as he was late that time. [Applause] Caught him looking for the K. And the batter now, Vinnie Dentino. He’s already homered here in this one. Oh yeah, B. He’s on the brink of one of your favorite milestones. He’s completed three legs of the cycle. I love me some cycle. And the first offering is not close. [Applause] And another ball. One out. The go-ahead run is at second here in extra innings. That’s a strike and it’s two and one and that is out of play. That misses and now it’s three and two. Mike El Garcia in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Man at second stays alive. Ball four. He walked him and that’ll keep the line moving. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. Mikel Garcia steps in for the Royals. [Applause] Jack swing. He went. That’s strike one’s count with the go-ahad run standing at second. And here in extra innings one check swing and he went now he’s in a one two hole [Applause] spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another misses and it’s two and two. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than to have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Salvador Perez in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two on, one out. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. High in the air out to right. And there’s two down. Now batting center fielder Salvador Perez. And now the center fielder Salvador Perez 0 for three in this one. On the ground to third ball gliding around third is India. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and they lead it in the 10th. Well done. drives in the run. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. First and second, two outs now. Jack Kaggleó. fought off foul. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Ball one there. 82 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Throw in holds the lead runner at third. So it’ll be bases loaded and two gone. Good two-strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Now the base is loaded. Big opportunity for them to break this game open. At the plate, Mark Cana and fouled off. So they’re all loaded up. And a swing to miss. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. Swing and a high-fly ball. That one out towards left center field. Way back there. Gone. Grand slam. Oh my. He’ll take a jog around the bases. his second homer this series and they add on. It’s 7-1. Singi, the ball is jumping off his bat. Yes, it is. Tons of loud contact. Man, it’s been impressive. Well, a great job here of staying within himself. You know that if you get a knock, you’re going to drive in a couple. So, stay focused on that. Well, he does more than just a knock. Hits the grand slam to drive in four. Really good job at the plate. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Shelby Miller is done. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Now pitching now on the mound for the Diamondbacks. Jake Woodford. Well, they need someone to stop the bleed and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging it. So, two down. Freddy Fine the next to hit. First pitch misses. slowly on the ground to short for Domo. Over to first. That’ll end the inning after a lot of scoring. But it’s a huge fiveun inning and it gives them the lead. Last chance to even things up. We head to the bottom of inning number 10. It’s the Royals six and the Diamondbacks won. Back here in extras and a new pitcher on the mound in the bottom half of the inning, John Shriber. And he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Here’s Catel Marte. Leading off for the Diamondbacks, second baseman, Gel Marte. First pitch doesn’t find his own. Looking to get something going. This is the guy you want at the plate. He’s been great for this team. He is a professional hitter. Next pitch. Not close. Up high. That’s ball three. Three balls, one strike. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. Three balls, two strike. [Applause] That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. First and second, no outs. Heraldo Peromo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. And the sweeper misses. Drilled in the air out towards right center. Reaching for it and brings it in. Runner tags at second and he moves up 90 ft. Runners at the corners now. One away. Now batting left fielder Lordis Goreiel Jr. Lordis Goreiel Jr. stands in now for the Diamondbacks. That’s in there and it’s 0 and one. Looks like he sacrifice to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing. Some good hitters will do that. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. In this situation, he’s trying to get you to pop something up or jam you. That’s a really good take knowing you got an opportunity to drive in a run here. Inside just missed. That smash towards center. Drops into the glove. Runner tags for home. The throw in. It’s off the mark and he scores. It’s 62. Good piece of hitting right there. He’s thinking off the bat that’s getting down for extra bases. But nice job of the outfielder running it down, making the catch. Still comes away with the sack fly though. RBI. Diamondbacks down to their final out. Auo Suarez stands in now for the Diamondbacks. That clips a corner. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Swinging a foul straight back. The Diamondbacks down to their final strike. And that one missing low. Deep drive down the line. Foul ball. Clearly hoping he could get a swing and miss on that, but doesn’t fool the hitter with that breaking ball. Nice job. Just couldn’t keep it fair. Marte off of first with two away. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. John Shriber done for the afternoon and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for Carlos Estz comes out trying to close it out. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Josh Naylor stands in now for the Diamondbacks. A former first round pick and he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. It immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. First and second, two down and we’re in the last half of the 10th. Ground ball to short and this ought to do it. And that’ll do it. Well, this is a big win on the road and going extras into 10. Uh so hard to pull those out, but I think this team did a great job of keeping the crowd out of the ball game late. When you can do that, it kind of calms everything down, keeps the adrenaline of the opposing team down a bit, and you can steal a win and get out of here happy. And your final six-2 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
