Philadelphia Flyers offseason outlook
But let’s talk a little bit about the Philadelphia Flyers because they did make a lot of changes. Obviously, you know, we talked about Cam York. He had the the kind of back and forth with Tortoella. Torrell is gone. Rick Tocket is there. You’ve had many battles with Rick Tocket over the years, Dano. And you know, we’ve all seen fun. Not not always fun, I would imagine. And you could see the additions they made. I mean, Zegris is the bigger name. I think that D’vorak signing is kind of a under the radar signing. Bigger, stronger guy that can win faceoffs. They needed a goalender. What do you guys make, Johnny? What do you make of what the Flyers did? I mean, I I think they’re trying to serve two purposes, EJ, right? They’re trying to get better for the future, but also get better right now. And that’s some that’s hard to do, but Dan Breier is doing a little bit of both. Trevor Ziggler is clearly a move for the future. D’vorak might be more a move for right now. They’re they have some pieces there. Maybe they don’t have quite enough of them. They really need help in net. And maybe Vladar is the answer. Dano, I guess remains to be seen. Fenottov and Sam Erison in net to me has got to be team defense but also goalending has to get so much better. So um they’re a work in progress. I think they’ll be more exciting. They’ll be fast-paced. They’ll be a little bit more offensive which is maybe what Danny Beer wants to grow them into Dano but they’re they’re probably not just there yet but you see whether it’s Tippet Ziggris whether you see Kates getting locked up guys getting locked up long term that’ll be part of the future. Who amongst these three or Dan Vadar? You hope one the goalie of the future. I don’t think they even know right now. They’re just hoping one or two of them gives them more than they got last year. It’s it’s a tough position, right? So many teams looking for that guy. And a lot of teams have struck lightning in a bottle, as we like to say, with goalending year to year. You never know who’s going to break out after maybe having a terrible year the season before. Darcy Keer comes to mind as far as going from Washington. to LA where he struggled a little bit the caps and was much better in LA finalist. So, we’ll see if one of these young goalenders can step up. They’re big guys. They cover the net and and hopefully they find their way under Rick Tocket. I believe the Flyers are going to play a little old school from the standpoint they want to be hard to play against. Physical. They add Gilbert. I know that’s only a depth piece, but he’s a physical guy along the way, but Danny Breer and Keith Jones have made it known that it’s not many teams rebuild anymore. It’s kind of retool we talk about all the time and they’ve been but you still want to stay competitive and they have been competitive the last couple years and they’ve got some good young pieces there to build toward. Yeah, they got to answer that question in net like so many teams it seems have to. But uh I think they’re in the right direction. No question about it the year before where they almost made the playoffs where they faltered at the end. So that was a surprise, but that’s the the gray area, right, for a lot of teams. Some of the teams, you know, we know San Jose, Chicago went through that kind of rebuild or continue to go through it. But now it’s time you want to stay competitive, get competitive. And the Flyers have been in that competitive mode the last few years looking to make that next step to be a playoff team. So they’ve added some nice pieces and we’ll see if that’s an interesting one. Can he take off? Can he stay healthy? And can he show all that high-skilled talent and really add to the offense of the Flyers? You think about Rick Talk, what he did with Phil Castle. Yeah. And how that relationship when he was in Pittsburgh really let Castle be the best version of himself. Trevor Zigg similarly talented player. I wonder if that communication will help him there as well. Yeah, we will see. Suffered a tough break in the offseason, the Philadelphia Flyers, with uh Tyson Forester getting injured after they had resigned him. So hopefully he is going to be ready to go when the season begins.
