currently away this is pre-recorded you’ll be able to see a little note at the top July the 1st i’m recording this before free agency starts after the news of DeAndre Aton’s buyout but I don’t know where he’s going jordan Clarkson also been bought out don’t know where he’s going you will have already seen my free agency recap shows cuz they will come before this again this is the perils sometimes of traveling well traveling is great but I can’t record in the moment so these are things that are pre-recorded we get that yeah so when I’m talking about these draft picks and the value of them and how I view a draft hall remember that if anything crazy happened that impacts this I don’t know about it so I do apologize let’s um let’s talk about the Atlantic Division if you don’t know what the Atlantic Division is it is the teams on the Atlantic coast i don’t know it’s New York it’s Brooklyn it’s Toronto it’s Boston there’s someone else I’m missing there for sure isn’t it who else am I missing the Knicks the Nets ah the Philadelphia 76ers of course that’s who it is let’s start with alphabetically the Boston Celtics they had picked number 28 and they’d already made the moves to trade away old mate Chrisaps Pzingis and Drew Holiday i don’t know if more moves are coming i think it’s a possibility plus free agency with their big men situations very weird so they picked at pick number 28 Hugo Gonzalez gonzalez’s numbers as you’ll see I’m about to put on the screen if you are watching on YouTube they were bad but the Real Madrid team needs a lot of context there’s about 12 former NBA players on that team including the legend Sergey Barka and Gonzalez played 10 minutes a night he averaged 116 and two per 36 with a block a game he shot under 30% from three he feels now he’s a guy with an incredible um youth record in international competitions and always has played well against his own age mates but I I do worry about this sort of a player this like ah he’s like 66 he’s a point guard ball handler that doesn’t shoot and the numbers are bad and he’s not getting minutes on a real team that’s a worry to me especially when I thought there were plenty of other options big man options ryan Kugrena was there as well Maxim Reo which would have been perfect fits i don’t like that pick of Gonzalez i gave the Celtics overall a C++ for their draft so sort of average to below average around that mark at pick 46 though I do like the pick they did get a center Amari Williams a really high passing center out of Kentucky i still would have preferred they use pick 28 on a big man there as well but Williams I think has the ability to turn into like we’ve seen plenty of second round draft pick centers or undrafted centers turn into viable rotation players we just saw Nazar get $125 million and Williams is not the same player but it is easy or not easy it is possible for these later round big men i’m not going to include Jokic but these second round picks and undrafted center to turn into four fiveyear serviceable NBA players and I think Williams has got that ability so I like the pick of him at 46 i also like the pick of Max Schulga at pick number 57 a shooting guard type wing who’s just a he’s just a shooter he’s just going to shoot he’s going to knock down shots i think he was a VCU he’s a Ukrainian he’s got good size that is a perfect sort of guy there with you know we don’t know what ends up happening with Sam Hower pton Pritchard sorry I can’t say Pritchard pritchard’s role is uh maybe a little bit different this season sugar’s probably not going to do a huge amount yeah the more intriguing young guys on the Celtics is the guy from last season Baylor Shyman but Sugar is a guy that when you get him at pick 57 I think there’s not it’s not an unrealistic shout to suggest that he’s able to have somewhat of an NBA career like other pick 55s Aaron Wiggins LeBron James Jr i know Sugar was 57 but I just want to get Bronny in there i think Sugar is an okay guy i don’t think he’s bad i don’t think he’s terrible i don’t think he’s great i think he’s solid i think he’s solid and I would have I would have taken him higher than that position and that contributes to that C++ overall grade you are going to have an issue I’m guessing maybe you won’t maybe you won’t but you might have an issue with how I grade out the next team and that is your Brooklyn Nets the reason is like give them the same draft grade as the Celtics and it is undeniable absolutely undeniable that Brooklyn accumulated way more talent than Boston if you want to view draft grades in an accumulation and just level of talent that is totally a reasonable way to do it it’s not how I do it but I think it’s a totally fine way to do it and it is without question that Brooklyn’s fiveplayer draft hall plus one of their exhibit 10s is significantly better than what Boston did it’s there’s no question about that the way I like to view it is did you make the most of the picks that you had do the players that you picked make sense could you have done better at that position did you reach for a guy at a certain spot based on my and others opinions and that is why I have Brooklyn as a C++ they had five first round picks didn’t think they’d take all of them but they did and I just don’t like what they did now overall some of their strategy I’ve said this before I think he’s okay i don’t mind taking two point guards in the same draft got no problem with that cuz the chances of them hitting are low right you don’t know that who works out who doesn’t work out taking two at the same position reasonable right but taking three at the same position and then a center who functions as a point guard in the first round makes no sense because there comes a spot where again you don’t know who will work out and we’ll see how it goes but how do you give these guys developmental minutes on your main team and in your G- League team when there’s just too many of them that’s where I start to have the problem with it i also hated the value of getting JGO Demon at pick eight i just don’t like that pick deon couldn’t be a good passer he’s not an elite elite elite passer he’s a good very good passer possibly the best draft passer in this draft class but can’t shoot um defensively I’m not really sure where he is like he’s a low usageish sort of guy didn’t hit his free throws hit 27% on threes now the volume on his threes was fine and maybe it does work out it’s just that again in my evaluation I had about two or three other point guards rated higher than Deon at this spot so I’m going to knock them down i don’t like the pick of Jgo Demen there demen does have an ability I think for fantasy leagues to have some value it probably isn’t going to be as a rookie because there are a lot of guys who are going to be battling for that position and he’s likely going to have bad numbers but it is possible that he turns into a you five and seven player with 1.2 steals and hits two threes a game at 43% in the NBA which is not a bad player i don’t think he does it and his size is really interesting but is his size becoming too big because he doesn’t then dribble or he’s not fast enough and he has to move to a different position that his passing ability is not on ball and he doesn’t shoot well and it leads to a whole bunch of problems see cuz like a lot of people compare him to Josh Giddy right and Josh Giddy’s shooting improved and it did i was big on Josh Giddy in the draft i had Josh Giddy at number six in that draft the difference to me is that Demond is not as good of a passer as Giddy his skill is not that high and when you don’t have that high level of skill to rely upon then your ability to shoot like you might improve but you’re not people aren’t going to be as scared of you with the ball in your hands because you’re not going to be able to creating be able to create as much as what Giddy is so that’s why I don’t like that i do like their next pick i had Nolan Trey up at least in the lottery maybe flirting with the top 10 and I had him ahead of Deon so them getting Trey pick 19 I like he’s got decent size i think he’s going to be able to shoot now the shooting numbers aren’t great started horribly but he shot well second half of the season still 32% from three really high assist numbers still numbers are okay usage is is really strong you know on a a French league team San Quentin uh played only 23 minutes a game I don’t like that he went at 19 versus if he went at eight actually would have been fine with it nobody else would have been but I would have been okay with it but they’re going to prioritize Deon over Trayor which I don’t love um and given that Deon is going to demand the ball in his hands it means Trayore plays a little bit more off it which I don’t love but I I do that’s a pick that I do like is getting Nolan Trey Ray at pick number 19 at pick number 22 they went with North Carolina wing Drake Pal the archetype of Pal is is useful like we like that sort of a player as a general hey 66 shooting guard small forward type the defensive ability is pretty interesting he averaged one steal and.9 blocks per 36 but you know look at that usage man like 14 usage and he’s already almost 20 years of age that’s really bad yes he did shoot 38% from three but he never really took any shots he doesn’t get assists even his steel rate is not as impressive as you want it to be so he’s just like a a a 66 wing who again he’s an older on the older side for a freshman who is probably like like we we just talk about this name will just keep coming up to me in these reviews but like Isaac Aoro like what’s the difference here i think Aoro was a much more proficient college player obviously went higher in the draft like Pal is fine but I would have hoped if you’re getting a bunch of ball handling um non-shooting point guards I might want some shooters at some point to see if that works and I don’t know that Pal really fits into the hey we just want good decision makers uh type of idea which is something they’ve been sort of banding about we’ll talk now about their next pick which is one of their back-to-back picks at pick number 26 and that is Ben Saraf the Israeli point guard/point forward who played over for Ratio Farm over in Germany saraf if you have heard this story let me know he’s a little bit taller as a point guard but he can’t shoot yeah he had a 28 usage and ratio farm does give the young guys a lot of run he averaged 19 per 36 with six and a half assists and 1.8 steals which are all really good numbers and he translated pretty well coming out of uh out of Germany he uh shot 29% on threes and 73 from the line which is again obviously not very good numbers played in a professional league and did well again context is important though with this team but they were good enough to make it through to the playoffs i think they made it through the finals of that German league don’t know if they won not really important saraf I I think has it is not crazy to me that Saraf ends up better than Deon it’s not crazy that he ends up better than Trey Ray now I I had him as a late first player i think that he is more point forward than point guard and I don’t think he’d ever be trusted to be a guy being on ball that much and running the offense he’s more of a connector piece very similar to Boston’s Hugo Gonzalez i think I think that’s more of the role I end up playing but Saraf again the assist numbers are good i think there’s probably more workability in his shot than there is with Demen that’s not saying much but I I do think that that’s uh that’s a part of it we’ll come back and look at the rest of the Nets hall in a sec today’s episode though is brought to you by Monarch Money do you ever wish that managing your money felt easier well with Monarch Money it can you might be growing your savings or you’re planning out a big purchase monarch locked on NBA for half off your first year okay so we’re here talking um talking Brooklyn Nets and we’re talking the Atlantic division just as a draft review as a general general concept for this show um we’ve gone through four of the first five uh first four of the five first round picks that Brooklyn had and that means we go on to the next one now which is a very weird player it’s Danny Wolf uh was a center for Yale transferred to Michigan and be was their center/point guard he was picked one pick after Ben Saraf um I I yeah I don’t I don’t know about Wolf the numbers are obviously great 16 and 12 per 36 with over four assists and 1.6 blocks he cannot hit free throws but his three-point percentage was all right i’m not convinced that he’s going to be a shooter he’s got some of the things that make you look and go “Oh that’s could be a modern big man but I do worry about his speed i worry about his agility i don’t think that the point guard gimmick thing works for him in the NBA.” And I think you need very specific players next to him they just just resigned Dron Sharp claxton is on the roster not that he’ll always be there but I think Sharp’s a better player than Wolf wolf could be one of those i don’t know it is easy to say this because he plays for Brooklyn and he’s white and he’s a big man but like Mason Plumbley like is that his best case and Plumbley is a serviceable center i’m not sure that Wolf and Plumbley is not even a good defender i’m not sure that the Wolf’s even that level of defender he does have fantasy appeal obviously rebounds threes some of them assists it’s a really good combination blocks but I don’t I don’t know that he gets on the court enough the last guy I want to talk about for the Nets is Grant Nelson an older prospect but someone who put up really good numbers in playing for one of the North Dotas again I don’t remember which one cuz it doesn’t matter cuz he played at Alabama last season and I like that he’s with the Nets would I have liked that he was on a a two-way instead i think that he I think the Nets are going to be terrible this season by the way the Nets and the Jazz are still going to be terrible just don’t get this out of your head they are going to be dreadful nelson is going to have a run we’re going to be talking about Grant Nelson in March it’s like “Oh do we add Grant Nelson?” I think well maybe not i think he gets one of the two ways eventually it’s he’s on an exhibit 10 at the moment maybe he doesn’t and he does have an ability very sort of similar to Danny Wolf to just contribute in many different categories he’s he’s one to watch he’s not one to get excited about he’s one to watch um speaking of not getting excited what what are you going to tell me about the Knicks draft well I’m going to give them a C++ because there’s nothing happening here i can’t say that it’s a disaster because they didn’t have anything to work with it’s not good because they didn’t get anything great and when you’re picking at pick 51 after you traded down for 50 for whatever bloody reason that was you’re not making a game-changing pick anyway so pick 51 the New York Knicks selected Muhammad Diwara i mean cool jarro’s numbers are honestly like I I he played over in Chalet in France he’s a 6869 power forward he’s 20 years of age broed2 shots per 36 minutes no not two 2 as a power forward excuse me sir he’s low usage he attempted a lot of threes they didn’t really go in he had a 42% three-point attempt rate and hit them at 28% he was a 44% shooter from the field he didn’t hit free throws he’s a low usage player like his assist rates all right 2.4 assists okay that’s fine whatever that’s something i I I don’t know maybe I should have knocked it down even further the thing reason I just didn’t knock this draft class down anymore is like it’s pick 51 who cares but I I didn’t have Dara as a draftable player i don’t when I look at his numbers and his stats nothing stands out of this is great you do this so well i don’t get it the other guy that they picked up on an exhibit 10 is Dink Pate a guy that I thought could have get drafted um a name that sort of been floating around for a while played for the Ignite for a bit he also just might not be good and honestly like that’s probably just too much time that I’ve devoted here to talking about this Knicks draft class and summer league hall i’ll check whether anyone else has signed on in the Biwali Bales cool and then James Naji apparently is coming to summer league he was drafted last season naji is interesting i like James Naji i haven’t looked at that maybe I’ll look should we just expand out the Nets segment of this show to talk about how James Naji did over in Europe i I fear that it was bad naji was drafted by the Hornets at the start of last season and was sent across in the Mal Bridges deal let’s have a look what did old mate James Naji do last season what on earth is that i don’t want I’m looking here i’m looking at the wrong page here we go um he played 22 games 16 minutes averaged six points four rebounds and shot 70% and blocked a shot well blocking one shot in 60 minutes is all right you know that’s enough James Naji discussion now we get on to a more interesting team that is the Philadelphia 76ers i’m going to rate their hall as a B+ for the draft i like them taking BJ not BJ hey I like anyone taking BJ if that’s what you’re after i like Philadelphia taking VJ Edge at pick three i liked it a lot of people said take Ace Bailey whatever i I Conquer Nipple could have gone there whatever i like Edgeham pick three good pick fits with Maxi fits with George fits with McCain i think it’s going to be weird to see where the minutes go this season overall but I I like I like VJ there i don’t know that he’s going to be an on ball guy at all i don’t think that he can be a point guard have you just drafted a three and D player at pick three possibly or have you drafted someone that can elevate like the way Anthony Edwards did through his career and Victor Adipo did cuz that’s the sort of body size and shape that we’re talking about with Edgecom good athlete really high steel rate the assist and rebounds are pretty good for the type of player that he is the shooting numbers aren’t great but they’re okay 34% from three i like the pick it’s it’s it’s a a strong pick i It doesn’t like it doesn’t blow me away but it’s it’s I mean it doesn’t No it doesn’t blow me away like it’s good i’ll say that it’s it’s good that’s the that’s the best way of phrasing that now we look at their next pick in the second round pick number 35 and that is John Broom just John I come on my guy he by the way his dad is John Senior his brother is John Jr and he’s John Iay all right john I Broom um big man Orin that’s where we start off numbers are huge like absolutely huge the fantasy translations on Broom’s numbers are crazy 22 and 13 per 36 3.4 assists 2.5 blocks 1.1 steals like these are insane numbers i don’t think he can shoot i think that a lot of that is uh college if that makes sense yeah this is college inflation he is 23 years of of age 23 years old playing in college the numbers are great i think that you know they got a Deona there behind Joel Embiid that’s a solid enough group and Andre Drummond is still there not for long he’s still there for at least this season broom is a fine pick there i I actually put more faith in Boner being a viable NBA center than I do with Broom but the numbers are are obviously impressive like there’s no debating that and I I just worry that given his age that some of these numbers are are due to the fact that he was older in college and beating up on some guys that were younger i love though what the Sixers did in the undrafted portion of the draft and they usually do pretty well there hunter Salis uh a a really interesting wing player who I thought should have been close to a first round at least early second round player last season in the draft went back to school and yeah his numbers not quite as good one year older of course I’m going to bump him down in his um in his numbers it’s disappointing because he shot 41% from three at Wake Forest last season and then 28 this season like that’s a real concern he scored the same amount his minutes were the same he just couldn’t shoot and that is like I know he would have gone back and got his NIL money but in terms of career in the NBA and getting a draft position there and getting drafted at all like you have to strike while the iron’s hot because that’s he went 26% from three 26% from three 41% from three 28% from three so the idea that he improved his shooting now it just turns out it’s a blip but again wingiz player interesting to watch iglisic Jr isan Almana both exhibit 10 guys i think that they’re both they had the argument to be drafted so that’s fine to grab those guys i’d like to see um Elmansa in particular get a two-way i don’t know that he will he might just end up back in Europe and then I actually do like them them picking up St thomas now he’s only on a a summer league deal i believe he’s from USC i think that Thomas is actually possible like it is possible he gets a two-way deal as well he’s again I think that the Salace Milichic Almansa and Thomas all were viable candidates to be drafted and all should have been on two-way deals they might end up that way so I think Philadelphia did really do well in that particular um area of the drafting in getting those sort of guys as you know we always have to leave the best to last and that’s why we’re going to end the show and not talk about the Toronto Raptors so it was good having you guys here good to see everyone no I’m joking of course let’s talk about the Raptors and so you can get angry that I gave them a D+ for their draft hall yeah why did I give them a D+ because I don’t love I I hate Colin Murray Boils on this team i don’t have a problem with Colin Murray Boils generally but I hate him on this team i I I once again and I know Raptors fans I know you’re eagerly waiting to hear what your favorite analyst has to say about you because you know that I’m always so uh positive about Toronto and the reason I’m not positive about Toronto guys because if you go back and look I was I loved their championship team i wanted them to win the title i loved what they did and basically nearly every decision after that I’ve disliked and I would also suggest that I’ve been right 90% of the time because let’s be honest they haven’t been very good yeah and the direction of the team makes no sense and now there’s infighting between Messiah Juri and new ownership and Jury was fired after having another fight the year before like what what is the point of any of the their stuff none none of the stuff that they do makes sense they got a team of starters who are all not on rookie contracts anymore putting your team over the cap into the tax for a team that’s bad a and with duplicative skill sets i don’t I don’t understand it anyway Colari Boils picked at nine got the next Draymond you know I’m going to hate that don’t give me a next Draymond a next Kawawaii a next Jokic tag you’re talking about Hall of Fame elite level outlier developments don’t give me a next Shay don’t even give me your next Rudy Goar because these guys are Don’t give me an X Giannis because they’re that for a reason now Mari Boils might be a really good defensive player i think he actually probably is going to be he’s clearly undersized as a center he’s like measured under 68 in shoes so he’s very small much like Draymond he’s not as uh basketball IQy as what Draymond is his passing is pretty good he’s not quite the level of passer that Draymond is he’s a terrible shooter 27% from three 71 from the line he wasn’t really able to do much he averaged 20 points a game on 27 usage sure for a South Carolina team that was terrible and he was doing everything i I don’t think he’ll ever have a 20 usage season in the NBA might might not even have us 18 usage to be honest steel rate and block I don’t think the block rate I don’t think he’s ever getting to that number in the NBA and again I think he’s fine it’s he’s a nonoffense player who you don’t I don’t think you ever want to be a point guard the way that Draymond is whose defense I don’t think is at the level of Draymond whose shooting is really quite bad and he’s very undersized again I I don’t mind the player i think that he’s fine and can have NBA success and probably can be an NBA starter i just don’t understand it next to Scotty Barnes for and there are plenty of times we I would say like with Utah right when they ping at five don’t don’t worry about drafting a point guard here if you want to draft a point guard do it because Colin Sexon and Jordan Clarkson are not going to be on the team long term and yeah 3 days later they’re gone and you don’t care about Collier or George and drafting over them it doesn’t matter right that those sort of decisions don’t mean anything but when your franchise is built now around Scotty Barnes he is the face of your franchise he’s your guy you want to be making decisions that make sense next to him and I don’t think Murray Boils does like at all they could have taken Kaman Malaw watch there being the backup to Yaka Purle and I think he would have actually made sense next to Scotty Barnes he’s like seven inches taller than Colin Murray Boils how does Brandon Ingram fit with RJ Barrett and Scotty Barnes and Emanuel Quickley i don’t I have literally no idea how any of it makes sense together and I know Quickley is a good shooter i actually like Quickley a lot and Barrett might get traded all this is possible right but Mari Bole’s Purle Barnes together is just horrific it’s so bad rj Barrett joined in as well everyone just trying to get to the rim to shoot i I it just makes no sense to me again in isolation Colin Murray Boils at pick nine okay I don’t think I would have done it i think I had him like 12 or 13 but whatever not that big of a difference and I I respect people who had him up in the top five also understand that i just despise this fit and even if everybody else on this team is gone and it’s just Barnes and Murray Boils I hate the combination anyway so I just that is why I hate it now I like their pick of Elijah Martin at pick 39 another a really solid strong defensive prospect he is old as he’s like 23 and a half already um but you know really 1.7 steals per 36 17 points per game played for Florida um 35% on threes and decent attempt rate i think he’s going to be a solid NBA shooter is not necessarily a high usage guy or a or a passer or anything like that but a really solid 3 and D player that could easily be better than say an OSHA or yeah better than a Jacobe Walter in a slightly different role i like it i think there’s good development there for Elijah Martin i like them getting Chucky Heburn on a two-way i think Chucky Heburn can can be an NBA caliber player you’re better than some of the two-way guys that they actually used last season as well they also got Clifford Omaroy on exhibit 10 who not bad i don’t mind that one and then Tyson I don’t really actually know how to say this guy’s name dean Hart which is a great name if that’s actually how you say it which is is fine i think they grabbed let me double check this who else did they get uh oh yeah how do I say this one annie Wanua Tate Jones there you go tate Jones on their summer league team but I just don’t like the Colin Murray Boils fit and that’s what drags it down your picks in the top 10 heavily weight the way that I’m going to view your overall draft class and that that’s it that’s the Raptors so I don’t I don’t hate Toronto i don’t hate Canada i don’t hate any of that i hate when bad moves are made and I think that the Toronto Raptors have made a bunch of bad moves guys you know what to do you hit subscribe on the video that would be great if you could do that and I hope that I’m enjoying my trip and I hope that everything’s been great and I hope that some of good and I hope that I’ve met people over there and I’ve said hello to you and if you are seeing this and you’re heading to cuz I think this is coming out oh this is coming out before summer league yeah so if you are coming to summer league come and uh see if you see me there say hi guys we are done here thank you so much for listening everyone see you [Music]

As long as the Nets do the right thing and end up with a top 3 pick I’ll be happy.
But I’m calling my shot now.
Celtics will end up with the #1
The Nets with the 2nd worst record will pick 5th..
