REACTION: Are The Miami Dolphins Stuck With Stephen Ross?!

As wise man once said, “Keep my team’s name out your mother. [Music] What is up, Finn fans?” Wednesday. Hope you guys have a fantastic Wednesday. Um, the Dolphins are being talked about again. This one is from Pro Football Talk. I haven’t watched the video yet. I kind of saw the start of it. The title of the video is Miami Dolphins are stuck under Stephen Ross’s ownership. Now, I’m assuming they mean stuck as in they can’t go they can’t get better. Like they’re stuck, not stuck with Steven Ross. Uh, we will see. We are I’m going to react to this again. I haven’t watched this. You’re not going to watch it. You’re going to hear it. I don’t feel it like being copyright claimed. So, we’re going to react to it together. Reaction. Let’s see. Do I have trivia for you today? Today is the 9th. I’m going to see my cardiologist today for my heart. I’ll let you guys know tomorrow how it went. It’s probably getting older. Trivia for today. Out of what school did Dolphins draft running back Devon Han? That’s an easy one. Give you the answer at the end. So, here we go. What does Mike Florio have to say about the Dolphins and the ownership? Asante Samuel Senior on his podcast talking about the fact that there was some sort of interest between the Dolphins and his son Asante Samuel Jr. Junior is a free agent still unsigned. Asante Senior made the comment that there’s no leadership in the Dolphins organization. And that caught my eye because it goes back to one of the biggest criticisms I’ve had of the Dolphins under Steven Ross. And it dovetales with what has become a fairly common take in these parts that as a fan of a team, you’re stuck with ownership. Jed York said it several years ago after they fired Jim Harbaugh, then Jim Tom Sula, then Chip Kelly, boom, boom, boom. One year after another, you don’t dismiss ownership. No. Sometimes you’d like to. The only problem is it’s like the Wizard of Oz. You drop a house on the Wicked Witch of the East. There is a chance the Wicked Witch of the West is going to be even worse. So, this is the first minute and I am not against what Mike Florio is talking about. I like Steven Ross and obviously I’ll go more into this as we listen to more of this video. I like Steven Ross. Steven Ross, as much as us Dolphin fans sit here and obviously he’s hasn’t been the owner for the past two decades that we still haven’t won a playoff game. I like Steven Ross. He has done everything he could possibly do to an extent to make this team better. He has opened his checkbook time and time again. He has made accommodations. Obviously, he has taken an outside aspect as well with the racing track around and the um tennis courts and all of these things. Um but you can’t say that he doesn’t want to win, right? He doesn’t care about winning. He only cares about the money because again that man has signed a lot of checks to either keep players, clear cap space, all that stuff. So, he does care. But again, there’s the other end of the aspect where he doesn’t make the necessary moves that need to be made and he rides it out a little too late. He also doesn’t surround himself with football smart people. Um, so what else does Mike Florio have to say? So sometimes that owner you have who is driving you crazy may still be may still be better than whoever would end up buying the team because there is no test. There is no and the rumor is that he had somebody in place to buy a portion now not to buy the team or majority stock but a minority stock in the team and that fell apart after the whole um Tom Brady uh Shawn Payeyton situation. Now it seems like his successor is his daughter if that is going to continue to happen or not. But we’ll see. Aptitude exam. You just have to have the biggest bag of money when a team is for sale. So, I say all that because Stephen Ross, because he lives and works in New York, he’s an absentee landlord of the Miami Dolphins. It has led to dysfunction. An owner said years ago, “What do you think about Steven Ross not living in Miami, not working in Miami?” The response was, “I love competing against him.” Yeah. M the best owners know where the sweet spot is between being around all the time and showing everyone this matters to me. This is my priority. This isn’t some tax shelter. Not that there’s any not that there’s any losses involved. But this isn’t just, you know, a trophy. This isn’t just some property that I’m investing in. I am fully invested in this team. I am here every day. I am making the team headquarters my headquarters. Either this is my only business or this is my principal place of all of my business. I’m not micromanaging my football people, but I’m here every day. And I think that would also give a sense of urgency in the aspect. Again, like I said, the my biggest knock with Steven Ross is he waits too long to make a decision. He did it with Joe Filman where he kept him a little too long. Uh Tony Spirano, he completely botched that whole situation. Fullcourt press gets on a helicopter, goes talk to Harbaugh that fell falls apart, comes back, gives Stephven gives um Anthony um Tony Spirano a contract extension and then ends up firing him that year. It was like a whole hodgepodge of a mess. And now you’re sitting here with Chris Greer now going into his ninth year as the general manager of the Miami Dolphins. And why why are why are you again giving him another opportunity to waste cap space, draft picks, this this and that when in your statement to the te to the fans on why you did this was status quo wasn’t good enough. The play on the field wasn’t good enough. Yet it’s all there. I care the way I expect you to care. And you know, having the owner around. What’s the saying? When the cat’s away, the mice do play. I mean, what have we seen over the years? You might the mice are eating each other when the cat isn’t there. So, look at where they are right now. We got a question coming up later that dovetailes with that concept, but look at where they are right now. They they just feel lost to me. And I know that that makes Dolphins fans upset because Dolphins fans are stuck. They’re stuck with Steven Ross. They’re stuck with the status quo. They have to make the best of it when Just said it. Now we’re Mike Florel, I’ll say this. This Dolphin fan is not upset with you saying that because we see it. We see it every day. We feel it every day where we’re we’re stuck here, right? We’re not the worst team in the NFL and we’re not Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, you know, that elite top. We’re stuck. And we’ve been stuck in that middle spot just tipping, right? We’ll get like the 10th pick and then we’ll get the 22nd pick and then we’ll get like the 14th pick and then we’ll get the 21st pick and we just we’re stuck in that mediocrity. I when the team is zero and zero and they can plausibly persuade themselves to think that this year is going to be the year for the first time since 2000 that they win a playoff game. Was it 2000 or was it 99? 2000. I can’t remember. Most can’t remember. It was a long freaking time ago. So delude yourself if you must as you anticipate the start of football season. I’m not going to try to yuck someone’s yum as it relates to As you anticipate the start of football season, I’m not going to try to yuck someone’s yum. As it relates As you anticipate the start of football season, I’m not going to try to yuck someone’s yum as it relates to what does that even mean? Maybe I’m too young. 37. Never heard that phrase before in my entire life. Comment below. I’m not even going to repeat it because I feel like I’m going to get a a a a warning. What you know, the fascination of all the things that could be. Yeah, they could go they could go 17 and0 in theory. So could the Giants and I’ll have John Mara’s face tattooed on my arm, which is still much better than having his arm tattooed on my face. So the Dolphins feel rudderless. The Dolphins feel shiftless. The Dolphins feel like a team that really does have no unifying vision, leadership. Who’s in charge? Who’s driving the bus? Where is the bus going? It just feels like the bus is going wherever the players want the bus to go. Hi, it’s Mike F. I don’t disagree with that. I do not disagree with that. I honestly, yeah, it when you look at 2023 and you look at the moves they made and you look at the roster we had going into the season, going into training camp, there was a vision, right? We had Tyreek Hill, we had Jaylen Wadd, you know, we we the defense, we had Xavier Howard still, we had um Javon Holland, Christian Will, like we had a team. There was a vision. Look at this team. This is this is going to be a team. This is going to be a a team that’s going to be fighting for the AFC East. And they were. You look at 2025. We have no starting corner. We just got Mika Fitzpatrick who we haven’t heard from again. Maybe we’ll hear from him on the 22nd, maybe the 23rd after their first practice. Haven’t heard from Mika Fitzpatrick after the trade. Um, we got rookies starting on the defensive line because we need to. We have two pass rushers who are banged up. Like again, like Mike Florio said, things could happen where it just works. The pass rush is just banging off on all cylinders. It works. It helps the secondary. The offensive line we put together is just working and we get off red hot. It not saying it’s not a possibility, but when you look at this team versus the 2023 team, even the 2024 team, you’re just you’re just like, where what is the face of this team? Who what is going on here? what is, you know, like 2023, it’s the fast offense, man. You’re going to have to compete with that fast offense. Now, it’s like fast offense, but we’ve seen already last year, if we don’t have our starting quarterback or if, you know, our receivers start to get nicked up, that fast offense disappears. If we can’t run the ball, that fast offense disappears. So, there’s a lot of question marks and a lot I think a lot of those question marks, not to, you know, I’m gonna because it sound very pessimistic, but we’re gonna keep listening. Keep listening. Um, we’re going to learn about the question marks with this upcoming month of training camp. Obviously, hope and pray they make a move in the next two weeks to bring in a veteran corner. Um, as he’s talked about Asante Samuel Jr., But I think with training camp and and preseason, we’re going to kind of see, you know, what this team is. And then the first four weeks, you see what this team is. They face the old AFC Central, AFC East those first four weeks. And the Colts, the Patriots, the Bills, and the Jets. They face an old rivalry, an old division back before it became four divisions. So, you’re really going to see what this team is training camp in the first four weeks. After that, we’ll know what this team is. We’ll know where our strengths are, where our weaknesses are, and the direction we’re going. We come out of that first four games three and one. Okay, we can’t beat the Bills still because I feel like that’s the only loss there. Um, but we’re we’re we’re in the right direction. We can beat the teams we need to and we have a few coming up in the next few weeks. You start one and three. Fired. fired, fired. You’re gone. You’re gone. TR trading trade deadline comes. Ship them all out. This is it. Blah blah blah. This and that. So, we’ll see. But, you know, looking at that title, you’re like, “What does he mean by stuck?” Comment below. What do you guys think? Also, Devon Chan, what college did we draft him from? Texas A&M. I will see you tomorrow. I’m thinking d ranking video tomorrow. I might rank the quarterbacks. This is going to be a hard one cuz I got to do all 32 or I’m going to react to another video of I think it’s Adam. What’s his name? He does the um he picks the the schedule every year. Comment below. Let me know what his name is. I think it’s like Adam something. Uh Adam rank I think it is. He uh picks the Dolphins whole schedule. Maybe I’ll react to that tomorrow. But you’re getting a video tomorrow. And then we got we’re talking linebackers on Friday, then rookies report Tuesday, vets report the following week, and uh then on the 23rd starts training camp. So off and running. We’re getting very close. I think we’re like 31 32 days from the first preseason game. So we’re getting there. But I’ll see you tomorrow like usual. Stay classy and fins up.

  1. My only issue with Ross is that he hasn’t fired Grier. Ross is one of those owners who wants to win and is willing to pay players. Grier is the one holding back the team

  2. I really don’t want to tell you I told you so at the end of the season. They will have a losing record again. You will keep wasting your time covering this trash organization. Take a look at the writing on the wall!!!

  3. The problem was they tried to fast track the rebuild after a little bit of success. You can’t blame them for that at the time because they believed they were in striking distance. Hindsight is 20/20. If a few things fell on better circumstances, say injuries, and the won a PO game 2 years ago what would everyone be saying now?

  4. Brother I really think with this year schedule 🐬 should make the playoffs. Definitely have high expectations of course very season I’m saying this. Let’s Go Cuz Buzzez 🐝🐬⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

  5. Simple. Open the checkbook up and get the best and most experienced GM. Ensure it’s someone willing to take accountability. Did you ever notice we don’t even really know how long Grier has been in this role or what the decision hierarchy is? That’s clearly a sign of poor leadership

  6. Hey Doug I'm almost as old as Florio and I have never heard that saying. I looked it up like every else and found it. It just goes to show you how out of touch Fukilo is.😮 I really don't care what a retard from ESPN thinks of my team cept for maybe Cameron Wolfe. I care what you think rather than some guy who knows everyone in every team in every sport.

  7. It certainly seems Ross doesn’t wanna win! If he did he woulda gotten rid of Grier and McDaniels! Grier has been Awful and him letting Grier continue shows his lack of judgement

  8. I watch you everyday Doug I feel like Everytime I hear Mike speaks about the dolphins he just seems to be a big hater.. if we so bad top to bottom stop talking about the dolphins.. like this the only sport channel I watch and you keep it real.. its like when he see or hear something bad about the dolphins he see dollar signs.. BTW THIS MY 1st comment love your channel never stop talking dolphins

  9. Ownership of a Profesional Sports Team is either a a Guy or Family with a Bunch of MONEY or a Bunch of Investors with a Bunch of MONEY. LOL

  10. Ross is not a bad owner. He is way too loyal and way to nice. Greer has wasted those draft picks from the Tunsel trade and he is still in his position. That event should have built the core of this team for a decade and here we are in exactly the same shape and Greer is still in his job when he should have been fired for that fiasco. Oh, the saying is I'm not going to Yuck on your yum.

  11. Miami should come out hot even at 6-1 that what I see but question is can we maintain this in November and December and Tuas health to. We shall see

  12. I'm sorry Doug but you agreeing with of All People The Tua Hater himself Mike Florio just shows how petty you are against Chris Greer because you want him Fired ! Has Chris Greer made some Mistakes yes but has also done Alot of Good Moves & just think it Could be Mike Tannenbaum & Brian Flores making the Decisions & the Dolphins would be in worse Shape than they currently are I'm just saying Grass isn't always Greener on the Other Side!!!

  13. If only Marino could afford them.
I expect Ross to own the team and refuse to sell until he passes and expect his family to sell quickly afterwards. Hopefully the next owner has some sort of football knowledge.

  14. Can we stop with the talking point that Ross is a 'good owner'? I mean sure we're not the Browns or Snyder-era Commanders, but this idea that owners are much more than leeches needs to stop. The media contracts ensure that every single player and staff salary is paid for years to come and each team receives close to half a billion with the cap at less than 300 mill. The teams are encouraged to spend at least 90% of that within the agreement. The states also largely pay for (and suffer because of) everything involving their 'real estate' investments. Which to add insult to injury the owners can count those upgrades and salaries (paid for by the NFL) as a way to get tax deductions. So sure, because he's not hoarding every dime he took no part in generating (basically following NFL rules) like most billionaires he's great?

Ross is a shit owner because he has no vision for the team and like the rest of his buddies they leech off of players, staff and tax-payers.

  15. All the Talking Heads are going hard on Miami I just want them to have that same energy for other teams in the league and they never do it's always some excuse for other teams but for the dolphins they suck they're the worst and I'm so tired of hearing the same s*** over and over and over again they weren't When the Patriots had for losing seasons and haven't been in the playoffs haven't said s*** about that or the Jets being miserable but they're the best team work the Jets are awesome it's f**** ridiculous

  16. HATE to admit it but we'll be "stuck in mediocrity" until Ross (despite being a Michigan Man), Grier & McDaniel are replaced with true "football people," ala Eagles or Commanders!!

If the 2025 Dolphins are successful, it will be because of a player-led "culture change" with Kenneth Grant, Zach Sieler & Bradley Chubb leading the way!!

  17. So I’ve been down on the team but starting to feel more positive about 25. Start of 23 showed the potential of the offense. 5 studs all drafted in 1st or 2nd, 2 of 5 were not performing as 1/2rnd picks but achieved their potential when OL had no weaknesses. Issue that season was injuries. OL never played 1 entire game together all season. Lost Wynn in week 7/8, but lost Williams in week 11-lost the season with his injury. The talk became dolphins can’t win in December. When Tua had protection with the weapons available he was phenomenal, with same weapons but no protection he played not good. This is the Tua Paradox. He looks like a superstar one week, @ss the next. Both are true. Tua is as good as his OL no matter what weapons he has. Last season OL wasn’t good. The 1 missing piece to offense in 23 was an athletic TE. Jonnu has by far best season but it wasn’t because he was that great, the offense is perfectly designed for a solid TE to have a dream season. Middle of the field is wide open. The average age of the 23 OL was 27.6yrs, this season is 24.5 with 2 oldest being 27. Hopefully the OL can gel quickly and due to their youth, stay healthy. If that happens I see Tua having his best season and team in playoffs battling for SB if somehow OL breaks top 15. The offense will be better than start of 23 now that Tua has more experience, the weapons should be more in sync and there is a TE who can take advantage of the soft middle. The concern of mine is OL depth. If the team was smart they would pull another player out of retirement and that is Connor Williams. He would be the perfect option. He’s still young, and knows the system. Can play G but most importantly backup C. If Liam is our option I’m worried. I’m sure Williams would make a comeback if he could play for Miami again. Heck I wouldn’t even use him as anything but a backup C, that’s how important he would be for the team. When he went down in 23 the team went down with him. Grier if you can read this make up for your mistake in not keeping him on the 24 roster and get him back from Seattle. Low risk high reward that would solidify what could potentially be one of our best OL’s in while. They are young which is good and bad. Takes time to develop chemistry, having an injury on the inside will slow things down tremendously. Having a solid backup like Williams would ease that concern. The team goes as the OL goes, be smart and plan for a potential problem so it’s already solved. That is the confidence the team needs to perform at its echelon. DO YOUR JOB-need more than 5 studs upfront, particularly on the inside. This is my dream scenario, make it come true and I guarantee you playoffs no problem. Deep run as long as OL is intact! Williams as a backup C or G by playoffs I would consider OL still intact! He’s healthy, he’s upset about his dismissal-I am as well-OBJ is all I have to say, same contract as CW signed in Seattle and how’d that work out? CW played all 9 games before he retired, what did OBJ contribute? Can’t recall. MAKE THE CALL!!!

  18. I liked Chris Grier until he gave Jalen Ramsey a huge payday less than a year before realizing he wasn't going to work out. That alone made Miami a laughing stock of the off season. That's a reflection on Grier. Along with letting Andrew Van Ginkel go. He should have been paid

  19. Ross is a weird owner, Jacksss Grier should have been gone two years after they didn't pick Lamar who owner wanted and were sh@t. My opinion Grier has some dirt on him that could blow up his ownership of the team an forced to sell

  20. I'm sick of hearing about AS Sr. that Miami is a Little League lead team. Meanwhile, 2 yrs ago Miami was awarded highest ranked team. These players are not children, they're grown men. If you need to your hand held, be told what to do, how to act and be accountable. Then you're not a Fin.

  21. The Dolphins and Dolphins' fans are not "stuck" with Stephen Ross. We're lucky to have Stephen Ross. If somebody else was to buy the team, they might decide to move the team to Mexico or Toronto or even London. Things could be a lot worse. Jerry Jones is at Dallas stadium every day and he hasn't had any more success than Ross. Grier has been the GM for 9 years, but he was under Tannenbaum until 2019. Tannenbaum made the decisions. Tannenbaum even bragged about drafting Charles Harris. Grier phoned it in last year, no doubt about that, but the 2 years before that we had a great chance. This year is looking much better than last year. Chubb is back… Phillips is back… Robinson has a year under his belt… Minkah is back… Grant should be a help… our rookie guard is going to have some problems because he's a rookie, but he's going to be good. I'm looking forward to0 this year.
