MLB LIVE🔴 Cincinnati Reds vs Miami Marlins – Jul 9, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. We’ve got Major League Baseball on a Tuesday night. It’s the Miami Marlins going up against the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch coming at you right after the break. And now, please welcome your Cincinnati Red. Just about to get started. Today’s starting pitcher, Graham Ashcraft. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his qu and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. And time now for the Marlins lineup. This team, Chris, not one that gets a lot of production from hitting homers. So, they’ve got to find offense in other ways. Yeah, Boog. Hit sequencing is so important for this team. You know, getting that walk at the right time, coming up with that next knock or extra base hit so that you can actually play to run. If not, then you see the record go in the direct opposite direction of where it could go. So, you know, a team like this, the good thing they’re going to battle. They’re going to put the ball in play and hope that they can find those holes. One out. Base is empty. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. Next pitch in for a strike and the count. One and two. One and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Smoked on the ground to second. throw to first in time. Back at third, shortstop, Otto Lopez. Two down, base is empty. And up next for Miami, Otto Lopez. Lopez playing up the middle at short, hitting third in the lineup. And he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss. Ball one there. 10. That one finds the zone and it’s one and one. Well, he left that change up. Got away with one there and he’ll take it, but doesn’t want to make that mistake again. And he grounds one to the right side and it goes just fouled. Two out. Space is empty. And that one hit to first. He takes it himself to the bag. And that’ll do it. Nothing doing for the Marlins. Now it’ll be the Red’s turn. No score. You’re dialed into the show. Back here at Great American Ballpark and on the hill in this one, Edward Cabrera. What do we have on him? Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. TJ Fel, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Liner to second and picked on the hop to first. One gone. Bottom half of the first. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. Batting, a guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Gavin Lux. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Matt Mlan Batic with one down takes the strike. And that one fouled off. One down. Base is empty. That one misses and the count is one and two. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, go to look for something down in the zone, but not too far. You don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Hernandez makes the catch and there’s two down. Batting third. Short stop. Ellie de la Cruz the next to him for the Reds. This has been a career year for him when it comes to driving in runs outside with a breaking ball. And that one is inside. Two and0. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. Next offering is down low. Just doesn’t seem to want to throw him a fast ball. Next offering is fouled back. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. You can stomach a two out walk to certain players, but with his speed, this guy out there in the base basket, it could turn into two or three bases. And now it’s Austin Hayes inside corner for a strike going one. Dela Cruz off of first with two away high that one. And now it’s even one and one. And that’s downstairs and outside. Move to first save. comes up empty. That’s strike two. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action. Here goes the runner. Ball misses. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. Runner at second. Two down. So now two on and two outs. Oh, very close with the location right there. It’s just tough to get rewarded on the call with pitches near the top of the strike zone. And now it’s Gavin Lux. And there’s the strike. No balls. One strike. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. On the ground to short, Lopez, they take the force out. Out number three. Red strand. a couple. We played an inning. No score. Back here in Cincinnati. Second inning set to go. And now Augustine Ramirez. Ashcraft back to work. This one in the air. Right field. makes the catch and there’s one gone. And now for the Marlins, Kyle Stardy. Chris, he’s definitely going to finish the year with a new careerhigh in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. Gets the outside corner with that one. No score here in the second. That’s a ball. Time to check on our umpires. Earl Hrix calling balls and strikes. Yeah, well-liked umpire Boo. Pretty consistent with his zone. So, if you’re familiar with him and how he works, you won’t get too surprised by anything. Sometimes he’ll give a little bit off the corner, but nothing too crazy at all. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. He muscles that one out the opposite way. His 17th of the year and they grab the lead. It’s one- nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. Well, he did a really nice job of letting that ball travel. Wasn’t too quick. He kept the shoulder square to home plate, which allows you to drive the ball to the opposite field with power. We see the power and the authority. And fortunately, he was lucky enough to keep it fair. Now at the plate, Eric Wagaban. And first off is fouled off. sets the ball low. swing and a chopper out to short. Two down. Batting seven. Left fielder. Two out. Space is empty. Arberto Hernandez. The next up for the Marlins. That pitch in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. Quickly down 02 in the count. I think you got to choke up a little bit. Spread out the feet. You don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be. Two down. Nobody on chases the fast ball up the ladder. struck him out, but they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom half of inning number two. And now here is Spencer Steer. And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. That one missing inside. One and one and misses inside. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. Headed towards the corner. Sanchez on the run. Grabs it on the run. One down. Outstanding catch right there. And I love the commitment that he showed. He knew that the wall was close, but was determined to make that catch. And a nice calculation of just how much room he had to try to minimize that contact. Tyler Stevenson stands in now and watches strike one. That’s off the inside corner and one and one right through there for a strike. Foul ball still a one and two count. And the righty deals fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. Two down. batting eight. Will Benson the next to hit for the Reds. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Two outs. And that’s outside. And it’s a ball and a strike. on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Reds go down quietly. They’re down one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Onto the third inning. And at the plate for Miami, Connor Norby. And the first offering is not close. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off- speed pitch. Late swing fouled off. There’s a 1-1. That’s inside. Up and in. Now three and one. 3-1. Full count. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. That one misses. So a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Myers. So digging in. Dane Meyers misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Let’s go. This one smoked out to left. Reaching clear and makes the catch. Now batting second baseman Xavier Edwards. So the batting order turns over. Here’s the second baseman. Xavier Edwards flyed to left his first time. Takes off. That’s ripped to right down the line. And that’s just foul. Just missed. The one-1. They had a swing and a miss there. Sometimes being lucky is a swing and miss. So if he makes contact with that fish, probably hits into a double play, lined into left center and that should be extra bases. Lead runner makes the turn at second coming home. He’ll score easily. The relay to third in there safely. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. One down, runner at third. And up next for Miami, Jesus Sanchez. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. That one called the strike. One line drive. That’s a base hit as a run scores. picks himself up an RBI. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on the line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did and he did it perfectly. And now the short stop Lopez for one. He ground it out to first his last time. Breaking ball misses down and away. One and0. Sanchez at first. One gone. Base hit. The throw to third. The tag. Hey, as a former center fielder, I’m feeling pretty good right now. That’s an excellent job by this guy to come up throwing and deliver a strike to third base. Now, for the offense, that’s a tough one to swallow because you never want to lose a runner in scoring position by making an out at third base. So, a man aboard and here’s the catcher. Augustine Ramirez flyed to right his first time. Runner on the go. Safe at second. And that was not close. When your catcher is not a great thrower, you have to do a better job of controlling the running game. And that’s throwing over. That’s stepping off. Doing whatever you can to try to keep that base Steelers rhythm off. Well, they weren’t able to do it right there. They’re going to have to make some type of adjustment. Our players are going to be running all game. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Man on second, two down. And they’ll do it again. Hard hit right side. Steer takes it himself. They limit the damage here. Two runs, three hits, no errors, and one left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Marlins three and the Reds nothing. And we’re back. Set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the third base, Christian. Strand. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and one. Gets to it with a slide. The throw nicely done for the out. As an infielder, you have to be ready for anything. In that spot, it required going to the ground, getting a little dirty, and making a strong throw for the out. Great play. So, back to the top of the Red’s lineup in now for the Reds. TJ Fredel and it’s fouled away. One down. Base is empty. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the play, Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Second baseman, Matt Mlan. And at first at the play, Matt Mlan taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point, that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. First pitch just misses. Just off the inside edge. Two balls, no strikes. Let’s go. Swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can’t forget it. Home run number 10 on the year and they throw a pair on the board. It’s 3-2. That’s exactly what this crowd wanted to see in this spot. He blasted that pitch. With this pitcher’s velocity, a change up is really a break for a hitter. He got a BP fast ball, didn’t move a whole lot, and he absolutely tattooed it. Ellie Dea Cruz the next to hit. He reached out to walk his first time and that’s through there for a strike 0 and one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Strike two. Another O2 count right here. Pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. sneaks through base hitter. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Good two strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time, good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Man at first with one gone. Now here is Austin out towards right center. That’s well struck. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And they feel real good about that one. One out, runner at second. Next for Cincinnati, Gavin Lux. That clips the inside corner for a strike. Hayes the runner at second with one away. Just no. That’s a ball. One ball, one strike. The one-1 is fouled off. The one two. That one missed. Two two. One out and a runner at second. You’re in the last half of the third. Hit in the air. Center field. Myers calls it in. Two away. Spencer Ste the next to him for the Reds. He’s 0 for one. Though Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens to the right side handles throws to first inning ends and that stops the bleeding. So they get three and draw even. On to inning number four. All tied up at three apiece as we go to the top of the fourth. Now here’s the Marlins DH Kyle Sters. You know, these Marlins doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound and one hops the wall. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Two hits for him in this one. Both for extra bases. Got to feel good about that. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Go ahead run on base. Digging in. Eric Wagaman grounded out his first time. And that one misses up and in. And that is ball strikes. Get out of here. Up the middle. The throw to first. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Not a bad outcome in that spot. The runner moves up to third and now they have a chance to drive in the go ahead run. It’s not a knock, but at the end of the day, it’s a good at bat. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Stepping in Ariberto Hernandez out to short. Dela Cruz zips it to first, but the go-ahead run comes in to score. Now batting third baseman Connor Norby. Now the third baseman Connor Norby worked a walk at his first trip to the plate. Norby measures 5′ 10 in 24 years old and he was a second round pick in 2021. Swinging a miss. It’s 0 and one. 0 and one. Two down. Nobody on. There’s a swing in a 0 and two. And that’s the strike out. Looking went back to the slider and it was a good idea. So, it’s one run, one hit, no errors, no one left. On now to the bottom of the fourth. It’s the Marlins four and the Reds three. Back here at Great American Ballpark. Here’s the catcher, Tyler Stevenson. Tyler Stevenson. And that drops in for a strike. Well, these Reds do a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they force this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. Outside with a breaking ball, and that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. curve in the dirt. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Will Benson digs in now. 0 for one so far. That misses off the outside edge. One out. Drill to right. Way back there. And that is gone. His second home run of the series. It’s 54. That one just sounded different. It might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that sweat from the boot. Let’s break out the statcast numbers. And singy. tells us this home run was projected at more than 450 ft. Yeah. And not many players can hit home runs as far as this one. That’s a special feeling. And I’m sure he was giggling a little bit as he was jogging around the bases. That was one heck of a swing he put on the baseball. And Kardashian Strand in the box here lets that one go for a ball. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. And another ball. Cabrera maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, pitchers, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. And now the center fielder TJ Fidel one for two in the air left field down the line and no one could get to it. It’s a foul ball. And Kardashian Strand gets his lead at first. Nobody out. With the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered. He’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. Squirts away a little bit. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? Well, partner, every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. There’s the strike count. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame. And we’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Got him. Swingy pulled the string on the change up. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He’s out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. And ready to hit now for Cincinnati, Matt Mlan. He’s already homerred in this game and he swings and misses at the initial offering. It’s 0 and one. Chopped to first and a foul ball. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Still only one out here in the inning. swings and misses. Goes to second save and he’s into scoring position with two away on a wild pitch. Now that should manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Edward Cabrera will depart and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching for new pitcher for the Marlins, Valente Beoo. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is in now for the Reds. Ellie Dea Cruz a walk and he’s also singled. Well, the way these two teams have battled in this game, you know, you need more. Got to continue to add runs if you’re going to get out of here with a win. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Here comes the one. Sliced hard but fouled. One and two. This one in the dirt. Two outs and one in scoring position. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s back. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. The run comes in to score from second and they lead by two. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. So runner at second, two down. So now here’s the Red’s cleanup hitter, Austin Hayes. Now a screamer into the outfield and a base hit right there. Runner from second scores as they add on. It’s an RBI single and they lead by three. First pitch swinging. Went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Solid swing from start to end on time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension and he made it out front for the line drive. Now it’s going to be Gavin Lux both for two in this one. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Two outs. Pitch misses and a count even one and one. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One and two is the count. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Next offering upstairs. battling here as he fouls it away. Two- two now. Swinging a miss. Struck him out. Ends the inning after they racked up a bunch of runs. So they move out in front after a fourrun outburst. We played four. It’s the Reds seven and the Marlins four. Back here in Cincinnati, top five, John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Dane Meyers. You can do it. Ashcraft back to work outside low. One and0. Activity in the bullpen. Nick Martinez up and throwing for Terry Francona. Sudter getting loose as well. All right, in the air right side. Benson makes the grab. One away. Now batting second base. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Graham Ashcraft is done. Got them some innings, but they didn’t come easy. New pitcher coming on. and we’ll be back after a quick break. Now pitching. So a new arm out of the bullpen for the Reds. Nick Martinez. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Back to the top of the Miami order. Xavier Edwards will hit next. That’s to third, but that was foul. In for a strike and a count is 0 and two. Base is empty, one away. And we’re in the top of the fifth on the inside corner for called strike three. That was just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the heart stuff boring in on his hands. And now, Jesus Sanchez. And there’s a ball. One. one can do it. You can do it. Here’s a rip to short, but he’s there for the third out. Miami down in order. And they’re on the wrong end of a 74 score. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And here’s the first base, Spencer Steer. Spencer Steer. Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and one. Well, these Reds really impressed me with the quality of their at bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Pitch misses count one and two. gets a piece and stays alive. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of the zone right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Will Benson the next to hit for the Reds. He’s already homerred here in this one. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Here’s a swing and a line drive. And that’s a base hit into right field. Throw into third. Not in time. He’s safe. Runners at the corners here. One away. Here’s the third baseman, Christian Strand. That one finds the zone. And that’s strike one. Brothers at the corners. One away. Last half of inning number five. That one off the mark. One ball, one strike. And that’s outside. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. Now he breaks his bad. Wagaman right there to make the grab. That’s out number two. Now batting center fielder TJ Fredle. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s the center fielder TJ Fedel. One for three. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. One and one on the ground to third. Tosses to first and the inning is over. Red strand a couple. They hold a 7-4 lead. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of the sixth inning. And now for the Marlins. Otto Lopez. Cincinnati. Outside corner. There’s a strike. The Cincinnati bullpen has some movement. Taylor Rogers, a left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Mole getting cranked up as well. And that finds the mark on the outside corner. And it’s 0 and two. that one the other way and there’s a base hit and a good start to the inning. That’s backto-back singles for him. Pretty good fast location down and in on the corner, but that was just a nice job to handle it and hit it hard. Very tough spot to get the barrel to most of the time though. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Augustine Ramirez. And there’s a foul ball the other way. Makes the catch. One down. That’s a big first out of the inning. He showed off his skills catching the line drive, but most importantly, he kept the runner out of scoring position. Things would look a little different if he didn’t make that play. Next is the designated hitter, Kyle Sters. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. 0 and one. 01. in the air left field. And there’s two down. So, two down now. And here is Eric Wagamag has grounded out a couple of times. That clips a corner. Next offering is fouled back. Lopez leads off first with two down to the inning. That’s a little bit low. Well, he missed badly with that 02 fast ball. Well, hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. Runner on the goal. Just a slow ground ball this time. Fires across the diamond and that is that. So, they can’t do anything with the leadoff single there. 234 two up in the home half of the six. It’s the Reds seven and the Marlins four. And we’re back. Bottom of the six and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Matt Mlan to the right side and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting short stop Ellie de la Cruz. Here’s the shorts stop at the plate. Ellie Dea Cruz. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. So, here’s a fun note on Ellie. He became the youngest player in high a ball to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game. And it gets better. He did it again two games later. Those are the type of games that tend to get you promoted in the minors. That one a little bit high and it’s two and one and that drops in for a strike. Two and two right side. Edwards fires over to first and a couple of quick outs. Now batting designated hitter Austin Hayes. Two down, base is empty. Austin Hayes now at the plate and first offering is fouled off. swinging a ground ball. Tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. And the Reds go one, two, three. Now pitching for pitching for the Reds, Taylor Rogers. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. So digging in Hernandez, leftielder Hernandez. And that one fouled off. Cincinnati. Here’s the one. swing and a miss tap softly third base side a swinging bunt and the lead off hitter set down to open the seventh. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Now the third baseman, Connor Norby. A strike out and a walk. Swag. A popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands knee high. That’s in for a strike. The Marlins trailing by three here in the top half of inning number seven. Just misses with that one. Swing and a line drive and a base hit out into left center field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. And man, I’ll tell you, a line drive like that into the gap just feels so good. It’s feedback that you had everything on time and in control from start to finish with your swing. Meyers in the box now. No balls in a strike. This is a good situation if you want to try to steal a base. Nine hitter and you’re about to turn this lineup over. So get a little momentum as you turn it over. That one hooked fouled. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field and it falls. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Didn’t exactly square that one up, but sometimes you don’t have to. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there. And, you know, on the mound, it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher, but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. Really important at bat coming up now. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. and fouled off. gets under and pops it up. The infield fly rule call. And at the plate for Miami, Jesus Sanchez. A little surprised we don’t see a pinch hitter here, but the lefty lefty matchup. And that one is inside ball one. Norby the lead runner out at second. Meyers at first. Two out of the inning. Next pitch is downstairs. There’s the sinker at the knees for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Next pitch inside. Ball three. Otto Lopez next to hit for the Marlins. Two on, two outs. And they’re all loaded up. Good patience to take that walk and keep the line moving. And it sets up a critical at bat coming up with the bases loaded here. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Taylor Rogers departs and he leaves with the bases loaded. So he’ll look for some help from his teammate coming in behind him. Now so a new arm out of the bullpen for the Reds, Tony Santion. He has a great slider with tons of movement. So bases all loaded up now. It’s the shortstop Otto Lopez. And that one fouled off. Two outs. Bases are full. Swing and a miss. When you throw a fast by a guy like that, I imagine it’s got to feel incredible. Look for him to throw it again at some point. In the air, left field down the line. Fair ball. One runs in. A second scores as well. And it’s a 76 game. A costly mistake in the outfield thanks to the bad read and terrible timing for that to happen. That’s a play you just want to forget about. First and second, two outs. And now the catcher comes up to hit. Augustine Ramirez 0 for three in this one. And there’s the strike. Oh, and one swing and a miss as he was out front. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count and this situation will keep a close eye on his approach. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Big spot two out. Both the tying and go ahead runs are aboard. Swing and a miss. Stretch him out. Good job at damage control right there. They put two on the board on three hits. No errors, but two are left stranded. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Red Seven and the Marlins six. Back here at Great American Ballpark, here’s the left fielder, Gavin Lux. And that’s a little bit high. Ball one. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Kade Gibson getting ready to go. Bender warming up as well. H looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away just off the outside part of the plate. Really good take especially with two strikes. Now a blooper back behind first. Fair ball. Now batting next for Cincinnati. Spencer Steer for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes. Nobody out. Runner at first. Here we go. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a one count. Just not able to square it up. Next offering is in for a strike. That’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. Got him. That K is his third of the game. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. Tyler Stevenson the next to hit. First pitch. Not close. Let’s keep it going. Run around the move. Swing and a miss. Throw second and he’s out. Man, I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Next pitch is slider that misses outside. Full count. fouled off and they’ll do it again. Swang and a miss. Struck him out and it’s a three up, three down inning. Nobody left for Cincinnati. They’ll try and hold on to their 76 lead will take over here. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Leading off for Miami, a designated hitter, Kyle Sters. There’s the strike. Well, a come and get me fast ball right there. He didn’t look ready for the velocity. I think it’d be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here. in the air out towards right center. Fredel gets under it, makes the grab. One down. And now the first baseman, Eric Wagaban. Three ground outs already. He’s 0 for three. And that misses ball one. One and0. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Throws the first in time. He’s out. Couple of pitches and a quick out. Up next for the Marlins, left fielder. Looks like it’ll be a pinch hitter, Derek Hill. And he would be the tying run boo. So we may see him try to launch one if he gets a good pitch to handle. That’s off the ball. And that’s ball one. Looking to get the tying run on base. That gets by him. Now, Matty, third base. He kind of rolled over on this a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Connor Norby the next up for the Marlins. Step off throw to first and he’s out and they got him. And that ends the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead, it’s the Red Seven and the Marlin six. Now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Kane Gibson. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the match up. Strike one. Well, on paper, it’s favorable to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he’s set to face batting from the left side, same side he throws from. And that’s downstairs. And that’s ball one. That one back up the middle and it gets through and the leadoff man aboard. Up next for the Red Christian and Carnosion Strand getting ready to hit Strand. Trying to move him over here. Edwards tosses to first. One gone in the bottom of the eighth. Well, just doing his part right there. Trying to move that runner in a scoring position. Got it down successfully. Now we’ll see if they can drive him in from second. And the batter now TJ Fidel. First pitch misses. Action in the pen down there. Jansen Junk preparing to come on if needed. Benson the runner at second with one away. That one finds the corner and the count even at one. Here’s the pitch. Runner breaks for third. Swang going to grounder. Foul first base side. Fights that one away. Still one and two. One out and a runner at second. Cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. Had him out front for strike three. Chris, as we look back at the pitch sequence, he hadn’t seen that curveball at all. How tough is it to adjust to something like that with a bunch of break when you haven’t had a look at it yet? Yeah, I mean, you’re dialed up for something firm. You never want to take a called third strike as a fast ball. So, you’re going to be a little anxious before you recognize the pitch. And right there, clearly didn’t see what was coming. Next to hit, Matt Mlan. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And it’s one and0. and that one upstairs. Runner at second. Two down here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Cincinnati. The 200 is in for a strike. just missed. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, it’s a good take by him. Ellie Dea Cruz up next for the Reds. Man at second fouls one away and now three and two. Ground ball left side and foul ball just a matter of inches from picking up an RBI base hit and maybe a double in the process. That was barely foul. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s go. Line and a base hit to right. Round third headed for the plate and he’s out. Got it. Cut down and that ends the inning. Well, it’s pretty difficult to throw a base runner out at the plate with two outs on a base hit to the outfield. But an excellent job of coming up with it, getting rid of it quickly, and throwing on the money. That is great technique from start to finish. Nice job to end the inning. Back now. And on the mound, the closer Emilio Pagan coming on to face a righty here. And he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. And now for the Marlins. Connor Norby. Check swing called strike. You’ll one. And that’s in for a strike. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that’s outside. This one high in the air to left center. Fredel sizes this one up. Brings it in. And there’s one down. Now batting the center fielder Dane Meyers. He’s two outs away. Dane Meyers will hit next. fought off. Foul. One down. Base is empty. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. And a ground ball to first. Steer and the Marlins with just one out left. And now it’s the switching second baseman Xavier Edwards. First pitch doesn’t find his own. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Fouled off left side. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. The one-1 is fouled off. This could end it way high. No, that’s high. and a sling and a miss. And that is the ball game. Well, this was a total team effort using six pitchers in this ball game to get the win. Outstanding job of passing the baton, the next pitcher stepping up and getting it done. You got to give them a lot of credit cuz this is not easy to do. We’ll see how it affects them over the next couple of days. One-run game here today. Your final score 7 to6. They hang on to win it by a run. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shabi. Thanks for joining us. move over.
