MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 9, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Just about set to go and towing the slab, Jacob Lopez. And Singy, that may be his name, but the strikeout is his game. Well, Boo, I can tell you’ve been working on that one, but yes, you are right. This guy strike out for nine over 11. I mean, that’s just getting it done. There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup. And when you look at what he’s able to do, man, it’s going to be a fun one to watch today. And a foul ball and that’s in there at the knees. Next offering upstairs. One ball, two strike. [Applause] Hammers that one deep left field and forget it. What a start to this one. And the Braves have the lead now. It’s one- nothing. You can’t ask for a better start than hitting a home run in your first at bat to give your team the lead. Well, you got to love a game that brings some action from the jump. And at the plate, he was looking for a pitch to absolutely drive. And you know, leadoff hitters aren’t up there anymore just working the count, trying to get on. They’re looking to make some noise and do some damage. Here’s Matt Olsen. Another solid power season. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. [Applause] The real threats are coming up. already given up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. Here’s the O2. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Austin Riley at the plate. [Applause] That one catches the zone and it’s 0 and one. part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. [Applause] One down, base is empty. That one fouled off. [Applause] fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. [Applause] Strike three and that’s two in a row. Just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there and I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. So here’s Murphy now. Fast ball is outside. Murphy in his sixth season, 30 years old now. And he’s usually a catcher today. He gets off his legs a bit. He’s the DH. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike. And the count one and one. [Music] [Applause] Ball. That’s inside. [Applause] Try to get him to chase on the change up that time. Well, I really like when a guy gets a break like that. He still gets to stay involved in the game. Instead of starting behind the dish, gets to hit, gets to rest a little bit, gets to watch the game from a different perspective. Three and two. [Applause] And that one is lifted in the air. Soderstrom on his way in. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is that. Atlanta draws first blood with a solo shot. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here with my pal Singi and our pitcher tonight, Grant Holmes. Chris, he’s got the ability to take control of a game when he’s out there. Well, incredible mound presence and he’s going to attack hitters. You look at that strikeout per nine ratio over 10 coming into this start. So, he’s a pitcher that wants the ball. He’s aggressive. He knows that he can get the swing and miss especially when he needs it most. We’ll see how effective he is in this one. And now the DH Lawrence Butler at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. 0 and one. Let’s go. Lawrence. And the slider catches the zone. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. Slings to first and a quick out number one. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. line and that’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away, batting third. And now Brent Hooker, a former first round pick. And he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. And a curve misses outside, man. At first, one away. The one-1 is fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And now the count is even. Switch through that one. It’s a strike out. Boo gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a few strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. I mean, with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising, even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So very difficult to get the barrel on it. And that one is in for a strike. One ball, two strikes. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Wilson off of first with two away. swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt in time. So the drop third strike doesn’t hurt him. And that’s that. The A’s strand one. They trail here one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here comes Azie Alies to the dish. Lopez back to work. Just missed. Swinging a foul out of play. [Music] And that’s off. the inside edge now. Two balls in a strike. That one missing inside. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Batting six catcher Drake Baldwin. Here’s the catcher to hit. Drake Baldwin. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Ruer at first with no outs here. [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another [Applause] 0 and two now foul ball left side. He’ll see another and takes low for ball one [Applause] swings and misses and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Batting seven digging in. It’s the speedy outfielder Eli White just off the inside edge. Nope. outside. Pitch misses there and it’s three and0. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. And ball four, two aboard. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass. Stewart. First and second, one out. Fairchild digs in now. Fast ball for a strike. 4-1. Two on, one out. Swinging in a ball popped in the air. It’s going to fall for a hit. Azy flying around third. Throw is offline and he scores. It’s two nothing. Well done. Drives in the run. So impressive that he was able to fight off that fast ball up and in like that. I mean, he really let it get deep on him as well. That’s great bat control. Two on, one out. Nick Allen next up for the Braves. Swing and a ground ball base hit right field. In comes the run from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s three zip and the throws offline. Safe at third. Couple of singles back to back. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Now batting Juriken Proofar. He’s already homered in this game. First pitch just misses. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. He starts him with a fast ball and that’s a pitch that’s right in his wheelhouse. You need to be careful. Here goes the runner. Swinging a miss. Safe at second with a stolen base. Well, we all know this team is struggling right now and sometimes you just got to do something different to generate some offense. A little more aggressive right there to put the pressure on the opponent. We’ll see if it pays off on the scoreboard for this team. Fairchild the runner at third. Allen at second with one away. [Applause] Line drive. Base hit. One run across. Here’s the throw to the plate, but it’s offline. It’s 5 nothing. Picks himself up a couple of ribbies. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Here’s Matt Olsen down. Struck out swinging his first time. Swinging a miss. 0 and one. One’s the count. [Applause] And that one lifted in the air center field. Clark under it. He’s got it. And there’s two away [Applause] now. Batting third baseman Austin Riley. So, a man aboard. Here comes Austin O’Reilly. Struck out looking at his first at bat. [Applause] Foul ball. Four runs already in the frame here in the top of the second. [Applause] And that one is downstairs. One and one. Clearly, he hasn’t had it in this game. And looks like sooner than later they’re going to have to go to the bullpen [Applause] to third. Can’t glove it cleanly. Still slings it to second. They get the force and they’re happy to just get off the field after that frame. So it’s four runs for him. Three hits, no errors, and one left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Braves five and the A’s nothing. And we’re back. Bottom of the second. Here’s the power hitting catcher, Shay Langelers. Shay Langalers. That one ripped and foul ball. The 01. That one ripped but fouled. [Music] And ball one. [Music] Foul ball still a one and two count. That’s inside. [Applause] Next offering is outside. [Applause] That’s out to center field. White under this one. Makes the grab. One away. What was that? Batting six. Left fielder Tyler Soder. The left fielder Tyler Soderstrom, he set a new careerh high in home runs this year. And Singi, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Ball one, no strikes and delivers outside. [Applause] That one misses and it’s three and0. Three ball. No strike. Fast ball for a strike. One down. Base is empty on the ground. Right side and it goes just foul. swing and a ball. Hammered left field. That’s bad. And that one’s gone. And they cut into the deficit. It’s 51. That swing just injected more drama into this one. [Applause] That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched, taking that outside fast and driving it the opposite way out of the ball club. You want to follow that type of approach. Maxy up next for the A’s. First pitch and he just misses. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. [Applause] Next one is off the plate and it’s two and one. [Applause] Tap foul at the plate. One out. Base is empty and a run in. Bottom half of inning number two. That misses. Counts full. Three and two. [Music] Stays alive. That’s a walk. We went with the cutter again, but couldn’t find his own. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. One gone runner at first. Now it’s the second baseman, Zack Gellof, trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. [Applause] Fast is outside. [Applause] That one misses and the count now two and nothing. Muny leads off first with one away. [Applause] Close but called the ball and now three and0. Well, I would expect in this three 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. And there’s the automatic. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. And that’s through there for a strike. And the count’s full. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive. swing and a highf fly ball left field. Proofar has a beat on it. Stretches out and hauls it in. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. [Applause] Not even close there. Ball one. [Applause] There’s the strike and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. One ball, two strikes. [Applause] Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first. And down on strikes he goes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. A’s draw closer on this homer. It’s now a 51 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. All set for the start of the inning. So, here’s the Braves designated hitter, Shawn Murphy. There’s the strike. I think this is an important inning on the mound for him in this game. He’s got to find a way to settle things down and give some length in this start. Here’s a rocket out to left. Puts it away for the out. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Al in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Next offering is fouled back. One out. Base is empty. Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Clark hauls it in and there’s two away. Now batting catcher Drake Baldwin. Two out. Space is empty. Drake Baldwin the next to hit. Struck out. Swinging his first time. Swings through that one for strike one. Oh, one’s the count. Squang got a highf fly ball. Well struck. That’s back there onto the track and he makes the catch. Nothing across here this half. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Braves five and the A’s won. Bottom of the inning. Now it’s the DH Lawrence Butler. Designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. And here comes slider for a strike. You know, these athletics showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Well, Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. And they’ll do it again. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Comes the two swing and a miss. Struck him out. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Next a to hit Jacob Wilson. One for one with a single so far. Jacob, this guy makes great contact. One of the best in the game at putting bat on ball. He’s got such quick hands and he’s gaining pitch recognition that keeps him square to the plate. There’s a good chance that his bat stays in the zone a long time and that produces solid contact consistently. Now batting the right fielder. Two down base is empty. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Right through there for a strike. Two outs. Base is empty. Baby, let’s go. And that’s in the dirt. One strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Two down. Nobody on that just misses. Really good slider. He’s up there just hoping that it ends up off the plate away. Off the mark there. And now it’s filled up. Three and two. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. [Applause] Highf fly ball right field. Fairchild nabs it and that’s the third out on the mound now. number 50. He’s making his fourth appearance of the season for the A’s. Number 50, Eli White now at the plate. The walk and a run scored his first time. And the pitch is outside. Ball one. The Athletics have some bullpen action. JP Sears, the left-hander, up and throwing. Spence, the right-hander, also getting loose. [Music] Just off the outside edge. That one way inside. Straighten him up a little bit. So, definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. Fast ball for a strike. That one pushed foul. Hit on the ground to short. Wilson sends it across to first and one gone in the fourth as they get the leadoff man. Now batting right fielder Stewart Fairchild. Steuart Fairchild next up for the Braves. RBI single his last time up. That’s inside. One and0. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. [Applause] [Music] That misses the zone. Ball two. Two balls, one strike. Swinging a ground ball up the middle and it finds its way through for a hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting shortstop, Nick Allen. And next for Atlanta, Nick Allen. one for one with a single and a run scored so far. Over to first and he’s safe. Allen 26 years old and he was a third round pick back in 2017. The short stop takes the ball. This might be a steel situation, but that’s not your average catcher behind the dish. You have to be careful here. Fairchild the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Rudder takes off. That’s in for a strike. Throw there. Safe, Singi. He definitely showed off the wheels there. Yeah, and it turned out to be a bang bang play. Statcast gives us the data. And that stolen base wasn’t possible without that sprint speed. Misses off the plate and it’s two and one. Runner at second here. One gone on the ground. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still finds a way to get off a throw and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. So, the lineup flips over. Profar climbs in on that left side. He’s already homerred here in this one. Baby, let’s go. And that drops in for a strike. Runner at second. Two down. Runner. Runner takes off for third. Pitch in for a strike out to third and that ends the inning. When you get thrown out at third with two outs, you kind of want to keep on running. Not a great decision there as it ends the inning. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go. Bottom four. And here is Nick Curts. That one inside and that’s ball one. That clips the corner. Back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. The one-1 is fouled off. Back foot slider struck him out. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. Shay Langalers getting ready to hit. Fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one. Right through there for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball upstairs. The Braves leading by four. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next offering is in for a strike. Generally second, third time through the lineup. You want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Goes down looking. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. Tyler Tyler Sodro will hit next delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. He’s gotten into a really good rhythm. Sat down seven in a row. He just wants to get the baseball and deliver it as quickly as possible. Keep the momentum going. And a base hit up the middle. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. [Applause] Up next for the A. Here’s the third base. Max my walked his first time. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. And a pitch. Swinging a foul straight back. Two outs. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. The O2 keeps the advant going with a foul ball. Baby, let’s go. Foul ball still 0 and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. That misses. It’s a ball in two strikes. One ball, two strikes. In the air, right field, brings it in. That is the inning. The A’s strand one. They’re down 5-1. And we’re back. Ready now for the fifth inning. Proar And first offering is fouled off. You know, these Braves putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. That one is hammered right field. That’s back. And that one is gone. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 6-1. No matter how this outing ends, that pitch is going to haunt him for a while. An O2 mistake. That’s supposed to be a pitch out of his own. He left it in a spot that the hitter could do some damage with, and that’s exactly what he did. Olson stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Climb the ladder with that fast ball and the count one and one. [Applause] gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Applause] Oh, and he hit him. He had him one, two, and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. Here’s Austin for two in this one. Line drive. Could be extra bases. Olsson around second headed for third and that’s a double. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at just a great approach. Looked like that was exactly what he wanted to do with that pitch. And right off the bat, he knew he was taking that wide turn at first to head for second. Here’s Shawn Murphy. And that one fouled off. Olson at third. Riley at second with nobody out. Now a fly ball to right center. Clark on his way over. He’s got it. Runners tagging from second and third. He’ll score on the sack fly. It’s 71. In that situation, you’re looking to get something up in the zone that you can put in the air. The worst case scenario, a sacrifice fly to drive in that runner from third. Here is Aussie Alb’s up to hit. He’s 0 for one. I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone here. Pitchers looking for a strikeout or a ground ball hoping to keep that runner at third. That misses the zone and that is ball one. [Applause] just missed. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. [Applause] Lifted in the air out to left. Soderstrom snags it on the run. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Now the catcher up to hit, Drake Baldwin. [Applause] [Music] Fast for a strike. [Applause] Fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. Two outs. Ball on there. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. That misses and the count’s even at two. Two outs with a runner at third. [Applause] Inside three and two the count. [Applause] Swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field. He dives but he can’t make the catch. Throws to second and he’s safe as the run scores from third. Comes through with the RBI. Great hands on that swing to take the inside pitch and drive it into the gap for the double. It’s easy to spin off a pitch like that. Boo. And can pull that thing foul, but that was perfect. Manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Number 50 won’t go any further tonight and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching JP Sears takes over on the mound and as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Man in scoring position with two away. Eli White digs in now. Top of the zone for a called strike. 01’s the count. [Applause] out to short. Throws across the diamond that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. Three runs on three hits, one a solo shot. Home half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Braves eight and the A’s won. ready to go for the last half of the inning. Here’s the second baseman, Zack Gellof. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. Holmes back to work. There’s the strike. The Braves bullpen has some activity. A right-hander is up and throwing. and he takes the strike. He’s been very consistent with his command out there on the mound. Consistently throwing at the knees. Pretty impressive when a guy can repeat his delivery like this. Outside corner got him looking. Well, that event seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three pitch strikeout. You’ve got to do better at the plate right there. At least to foul something off, extend that at bat. Denzel Clark the next to hit. Struck out swinging his first time. That misses. And that’s ball one. Counts one and0. The Braves up big in this one. Last half of inning number five. Foul ball there. That one the other way. Alb’s over to first in time. Old man for the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs for the A’s. Designated hitter. So the batting order turns over. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. First pitch misses and a foul ball. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. That one to first. He steps on the bag. The A’s go quietly. Nothing doing there for the A’s. It’s still an 81 ball game. And welcome back to the ballpark. And stepping in is the speedy Steuart Fairchild. Steuart Fairchild. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Mitch Spence up and throwing. Number 49 also throwing outside low and one and one. I got one ball, one strike. And that’s just foul. Way to go, baby. Let’s go on the ground to third. Slides for the stop over to first and very nicely done for the out. We saw a few skills on display there for the out. Technique was great. Reaction time was there and the slide was smooth. Watching that play come together was really fun. And now Nick Allen. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And that’s in for a strike. And it’s nothing in two. Struck him out looking. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. Got three straight fast balls looking in the O2 count just to pour it back. Here’s the switchhitting left fielder Juriken Pro. He’s already homerred twice. The last one back in the fifth. Just seems like he can’t miss right now. Seeing the baseball as well as anyone on the field. Now, I know the odds are against him. But who’s going to bet against this guy right now? Swanging a ground ball. Gell tosses to first. Proar is out and it’s a one two three inning for the Braves. Braves go down quickly here and it remains an 8 to one game. number 75 comes on now and he’s had three days off since he pitched last. So, expect him to be totally rested. I’m sure he’s itching for this opportunity right now. Jacob Wilson now at the plate, one for two. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. And there’s a ball. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. And another ball. Singy, one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swinging and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. if he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he could put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on the team, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Rooker up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher. Oh, this one high and deep way back there and forget it. His 19th home run of the year. It’s 83. [Applause] That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched, taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. [Applause] Nick Curts up next for the A’s. And that’s in there for strike one. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. [Applause] Late swing fouled to the left. [Applause] That one missed. Nobody on, nobody out. A pair of runs across in the inning here in the bottom of the sixth. Next one misses and the count is two and two. Yeah, and I figured you would get caut into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. Swang and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. [Applause] Now batting catcher and now a chance for Shay Langelers. [Applause] First pitch just misses. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] fouled off and they’ll do it again. Curts on at first. Nobody out. [Applause] Swings through him for the K. Slider. Got him for strike three. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. Swing and a miss as he was late. Two strike. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. Two gone now. Just indecisive in that at bat. He couldn’t commit to the slider. Tried to sit in between. Just not able to put the bat on the ball. Maxy getting ready to hit. [Applause] Pitch misses and it’s one and0. [Applause] Ripped to third but handled and that’ll end the inning. The A’s with a two-run blast. It’s now 83. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Top of inning number seven now in for the Braves. Matt Olsen. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] And it’s one and one. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Fights that one away. Still one and two. That’s hard hit on the line. Sodestro balls it in and there’s one away. He was all over that fast ball right there. I tell you what, if he gets under it just by a fraction of an inch or a little bit more, that’s way back. Here’s Austin Riley, one for three. Let’s go. Go, baby. Let’s go. Oh, look at the stop. And he beats it. He’s safe. Oh, that’s a really tough play no matter who you are, but I think he has a chance to get him at first. If he’s just able to get that throw off a little quicker. Looked like he took one extra step to set himself and get a grip on the ball. And next is the designated hitter, Shawn Murphy. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. [Applause] Highfly ball out to left field. Soderstrom settles under it, makes the grab, and there’s two gone [Applause] now. Batting second baseman Azie Alb. Azie Alb’s up to the plate. And first offering is fouled off. Riley off of first with two away. That misses the zone and the count is one and one. And that’s too high. Always started after it, tried to hold up. Now a look to first and he held back according to Rusty Valentine. So now two on and two outs. Not what he wanted to do right there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive. puts a runner into scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. And here’s the catcher, Drake Baldwin. Drake Baldwin. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. [Music] gets him to chase after that one. They really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Wow, he got away with a mistake right there. the other way. Muny whips it across and that is that. Two left for Atlanta, but they lead at 83. [Music] And we’re back. Now it’s the second base, Zack Gill. Second base, Zack Gellof. just missed [Applause] a little out front there as he swings through. Got a ball. One strike. There’s the strike of the knees. got him looking. That K is his third of the game. And now it’s going to be Denzel Clark. Denzel Clark. This one in the air center field. White makes the grab. Two away. Now batting designated hitter. Two outs. Base is empty. Lawrence Butler will hit next. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. There it was. O. Here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in a count. Next pitch misses. One ball, one strike. just missed. [Applause] Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the seventh. And that’s a strike out. Mike Fillmore says he went around and the A’s are gone in order. can’t chip away at an 83 deficit. Now pitching gets the ball now. Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per in any pitch so far this season. So, now to the plate for Atlanta. Eli centerfielder Eli White. That’s in there. Strike one. Well, he’s gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone. He has plenty of options right here. He can go up, he can go away, he can add velocity, he can subtract. Let’s go. White tries to hold up. Appeal to first. Didn’t go. Bows it off. Still one and two. [Music] goes down looking for the strike out. Not sure about that call. Pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three. Now batting right. And now the right fielder Steuart Fairchild. [Music] Strike in the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Elvis Alvarado, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Ripped on a line to center. Two away now. Now batting shorts stop Nick. Two down. Base is empty. Nick Allen. Next up for the Braves. Went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] He swings and fouls one off. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now the number two hitter, Jacob Wilson. Jacob Wilson. [Applause] And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Swings through that one for strike two. No balls, two strikes. That’s off the mark. And it’s one and two. One ball, two strikes. The count. The shorts stop takes the ball. That’s down and in. Really good take, especially with two strikes. And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out now. That is right. Brent Rooker. The next to hit Rooker. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Not sure if he was expecting for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. One more. One down, base is empty. And that’s downstairs and outside. And it finds its way through for a hit. [Applause] Now batting number 16. So a man at first, Nick Curts digs in now. First offering and it just misses and the slider misses down and away. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. clips the corner. Two and one now. And the slider just misses. Rooker over at first with one away [Applause] and ball four, two aboard. Now batting the catcher, Shay Langelier. Here comes the manager out of the Braves dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Number 75 won’t go any further and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for Bryce Elder on a pitch out of the pen here. He’s pitching on two days rest. First and second, one out. Here’s the catcher, Shay Langalers, 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Movement in the Atlanta bullpen. Religius, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Runners at first and second with one gone near the bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offering is fouled back on the ground. Could be two offbalance feed. There’s one high throw to first and he can’t reach it. Well, they had the chance of turning two right there, but I don’t think he got a good grip on the ball as he tried to transfer from glove to throwing hand. They say you can’t assume a double play. I beg to differ at the big league level, but it’s going to be ruled as a fieldielder’s choice. So, up next, Tyler Soderstrom. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. He was late there. Strike one. One’s the count. swaying and a miss as he was out front that time. Headed towards the corner and that is a foul ball. Runners on first and third. Two away. cut on and missed and it’s a strike out and that is the inning. All set to start the ninth in this one. Now the leadoff spot for the Braves. Jurgson Proar Spence back to work. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] Yeah, that skips into dirt. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Applause] That misses the zone and it’s two and two. [Applause] It misses. It’s a strike out. Well, kind of a weird pitch and a weird swing on that strike out. It’s just a slider that caught a lot of the plate. I’d say a very hitable location, but in the box, I think he just gave up on it way too early and by the time he realized it was dropping into the zone, he just fires off a really poor swing. [Applause] Coulson stands in here. Tried to hold back his swing there, but went around. Base is empty, one away here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Hit hard but foul off to the left. One ball, two strength. Foul ball still a one and two count. Here’s the pitch to Olen. Battling here as he fouls it away. [Applause] Not close with that one. And that’s ball two. Eighth pitch of the at bat coming up. And that’s outside. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. And there’s ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. You know, I think he’s okay with that outcome. It wasn’t an intentional walk, but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either. Here is Austin Riley. [Applause] Swings through that one. One’s the count. [Applause] Line to left. And that’s down a base hit and out to a board. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Now Shawn Murphy ground ball right side could be two. And he can’t come up with it. Kurts to second onto first save. So they get one. But a really nice try there. Second baseman Azie Ali. Now here is Azie Albies. [Applause] Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That one back there makes the catch on the edge of the track. So they strand a pair. Bottom part of the order. 789. Two up in inning number nine. It’s the Braves eight and the A’s three. Bottom nine. And here is Max Muny. [Applause] Outside low. Ball one. [Music] Line drive base hit. So runner aboard to start the inning. Zack Gellof up next for the A’s. 0 for three in this one. [Applause] Pitch misses there and that’s ball one. When a leadoff man gets on, you want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully, the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. [Applause] Swinging a popup allies and out number one on the grab. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. And now here is Denzel Clark 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. [Music] [Applause] And first off is fouled off. And that drops in for a strike. 02 is the count. [Applause] That misses the zone. Now one and two. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. Oh man, that smoked him on the mound. He’s in there. Now batting down. And now the hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue here in the bottom of the ninth. One out. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. 0 for four with three strikeouts and he’s grounded out right through there for a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. [Applause] One out. Runners at first and second. Next pitch is outside. [Applause] Fights it off. He’ll see another. [Applause] Two on, one out. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. [Applause] And a foul ball. He stays alive. [Applause] Got him swinging for the strike out. The A’s down to their final out. Oh, there he gets the slider in on his hands and it just eats him off. It’s hard to get the bat around on a pitch like that in tight. You just feel like you’re crowded on the inside part of the plate. Can’t get any extension. That’s one he definitely should have laid off of. Wilson in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. ball. Squirts away a little bit. First and second, two down here in the last half of inning number nine. That one fouled off. Two and two. Looked like you got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. You’re a little late. Opposite field not. [Applause] One strike away. Brown ball to the right side. A sliding stop to the bag himself and gets the out to end it. Wow. Well, B, four games wasn’t too long of a losing streak, but they’re definitely happy to be back in the win column. Now you can turn things around, get on the right track, and probably start a winning streak from here. 83 the final in this one. for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long What the roof?
