THE DALLAS STARS JUST COMMITTED HIGHWAY ROBBERY… + HUGE OTTAWA SENATORS SIGNING

[Music] yeah we’re making a video on the Dallas Stars because they have just committed highway robbery to the nth degree what astounding news to wake up to now I’m a Vancouver Conucks fan so I’m not used to seeing contracts get handed out that are absolute steals for my favorite hockey team but Dallas Stars fans oh my gosh y’all are eating well tonight y’all are eating well for the next four years because the Dallas Stars have resigned forward Matt Duchain to a 4year extension through 2028 2029 and the contract cost is absolutely fantastic 4-year contract extension with a $4.5 million AAV what the hell oh my gosh man oh my gosh matt Duchain scored 82 points in this most recent NHL season he led the Dallas Stars in points he was their top guy and he’s resigning for $4.5 million i get it he’s 34 years old right i mean Duchain was drafted all the way back in 2009 third overall pick he was taken behind who was it victor Hedman John Diverus he’s in that draft class of guys but Matt Duchain has really come into his own over the past few years here after being good in Colorado you know really decent guy Colorado sucked for a while while Matt Duchain was there he ended up going over to Ottawa Columbus had a stint there was a beast in the playoffs then played very well in Nashville revitalized his career as an 86 point guy before heading over to Dallas i mean he got bought out by the Nashville Predators he had 56 points in 71 games played in 22 23 and then he got bought out like that is absolutely crazy big shock around the league and the funny part about all this is okay look Matt Duchain $4.5 million extension that’s the deal right but because he got bought out by Nashville with a pretty sizable 3 years left on his contract because he got bought out he’s still going to get paid by Nashville quite a lot over the next little while here take a look at this so the Nashville Predators contract that he had $8 million a year a lot of money right it would have expired in 2026 the Predators thought that that was too much paton doing wonders on July 1st 2019 but because it got bought out at the time that it did Matt Duchain is going to be making $6.5 million this upcoming season from Nashville add the two cap hits together that’s 11 million bucks it’s not exactly 11 the contract that he got in Dallas is a little bit shifted a lot of the money is pushed at the beginning here but still the guy’s making 6.5 million against Nashville’s cap hit this upcoming season with 3 million bucks as his base salary 2 million bucks as a signing bonus and 1.5 million as a buyout cost i mean he’s going to be making 1.5 million against the Predators cap from 2627 to 2829 the Predators are going to be paying Matt Duchain for the same amount of time that he is going to be getting paid by the Dallas Stars on this contract what the hell oh my gosh dude here are the contract details as posted by prohockey rumors.com duchain in 2526 will get a $3 million base salary $3 million in signing bonuses in 2526 2627 1.8 8 million in base salary $3 million in signing bonuses and then 2728 and 2829 he’ll get 3.6 million per year as a salary base from the Dallas Stars so if you take the 6 million bucks he’s making in 2025 2026 and you add the 6.5 million bucks he’s going to be making from the Nashville Predators in 2526 Matt Duchain is walking away from this upcoming year with $12.5 million in his pocket free taxes and everything oh no state tax in Dallas right oh no wonder he was able to sign that deal no wonder the Dallas Stars were able to commit highway robbery afp Analytics in the replies to the Dallas Stars tweet went out there and said this that Matt Duchain’s contract projection was around $7.1 million a year for 3 years so even though the guy’s 34 years old he came off of an 82point year he’s still great he was fantastic playing alongside of Tyler Sean and Mason Marshment these guys went out there and just destroyed worlds who cares if Duchain’s in his mid30s the guy got 82 points in 82 games point per game guy signs a really reasonably cheap contract and I guess he could say okay to it because he’s making like the same amount of money from Nashville ayay highway robbery folks absolute highway robbery now that’s not the only contract that I wanted to talk about in this video you might have seen in the title we had some Ottawa Senator stuff in there it’s just it’s a flashier title to put Highway Robbery on one guy so yeah there you go dallas you get the full treatment in the thumbnail here but I wanted to talk about the Ottawa Senators because they also made a contract signing as well pretty big news here it’s Fabian Zettherland getting a three-year contract extension that was actually reported like really early into the morning it was like 7:00 a.m eastern time 4:00 a.m my time but Fabian Zetterland has signed a 3-year extension worth 4.275 million a year and I’m thinking about it like yeah okay zetterland got 4.275 duchain got 4.5 and Duchain is an 82 point player plus he’s a center that’s not to diss the Ottawa Senators and Fabian Zetland though zetterland is fine this previous year he had 41 points in 84 games played yeah that’s right he played 84 games because he was traded from San Jose to Ottawa he did not do well with the Ottawa Senators point production-wise he was half a point a game with the San Jose Sharks he was a point every four games with the Ottawa Senators and then in the playoffs in round one against Toronto he had zero points in six games over there i mean say what you want about the progression of how this guy has become a meaningful addition to what was an exciting San Jose team in this previous year but Fabian Zetterland in Ottawa he has a lot more to show for that’s the thing he’s young he’s 25 years old there’s a lot that you can go out there and hope for he just needs to get a few more bounces he just needs to keep putting the work in he was a fine player just didn’t really get those chances to go in and I think a lot of Senators fans understand that there’s going to be a little bit of a growing pain with this player the same thing happened when he went over to San Jose from New Jersey didn’t really get that best transition and then exploded with a 40point year afterwards he had 20 points in 45 games in New Jersey got traded to San Jose in the team Omireer deal had three points in 22 games to end off that season before getting 44 points in San Jose the year after so almost the exact same thing happened from New Jersey to San Jose where Zetterland was total dog water point production-wise after the trade this could be the exact same thing here so if Zetterland does get 4550 points next season I don’t think anybody should be too surprised and that’s pretty reasonable value for a $4.275 275 million AAV guys so totally fine it’s not that big of a deal here but it’s not highway robbery like that Matt Duchain contract man just because the guy’s 34 years old that’s why he got so little money and because he’s making a whole bunch of money from Nashville too but let me know your thoughts in the comments section either way about this highway robbery contract extension given out by the Dallas Stars what are your thoughts on Fabian Zetterland’s extension with the Ottawa Senators let me know all your thoughts in the comments section below i hope you enjoyed this video on and bye [Music] [Music]

  1. I don’t think u understand. Zetterlund played majorly on the fourth line. I didn’t expect him to do much. Especially with the system we had where it was defence first especially down the lineup. I Can see the potential

  2. I dont rhink this is that crazy of a deal. He obviously wants to stay in Dallas he is getting old. Pretty standard ext plus preds still paying

  3. There's more to Zetterlund's game than the points show. He plays a two-way game with a focus on defense. I had him in fantasy this past season and he was a stud for me in my CATS league. The value he provides to the team is that of a Swiss army knife that can move up and down the line-up to play whatever roll is required of him.

  4. Thats what happens when you play in a state where theres no income tax and lots of freedom unlike Canada not to mention way more investment opportunitys

  5. So I'll agree it's a great contract but they have no more room on the cap and still have lots more UFA to sign and RFA too and only less than half a million to play with!! With only 9 wingers signed witch leaves them 3 short with 6 UFA witch obviously they won't sign them all but also 2 RFA they definitely want to keep……idk but there not looking good right now until they trade a key piece making money. Obviously Robertson was talked about trading and if you do still need to replace that body, just saying!!

  6. I don't see this. He was brutal during the playoffs this year. Three rounds and he didn't put up jack. And he's 34? I'm not so sure this was a great contract. For two years, maybe three? Okay. Four years though? Those are the kind of things you just have to see how they play out.

  7. Regular season performance doesn't matter when Duchene was one of the reasons the team didn't do well in the playoffs. If he only scores 6 points in 18 games and i +/- statistics -16
