Thad Bogardus on Minnesota Vikings Talent at Outside Linebacker & What’s Next For Dallas Turner

with mini camp wrapping up we are talking to a lot of our assistant coaches and uh really excited to talk to you today thaad Bardis the outside linebacker’s coach this is your third season here but your first as a position coach here um what are you excited about uh this opportunity uh just excited to be a part of just a great organization you know like you said going into year three first time you know being the position coach here it’s it’s just exciting to get back out on the grass you know with the players with a great group of outside backers and uh just you know great team great organization it’s just it’s fun to be back in the saddle I guess you’d say yeah you’ve got a history with Kevin O’Connell dating back to your time with the Rams winning a Super Bowl but I don’t know if people know this you actually have two Super Bowl rings very fortunate what is it what do you remember the most about uh making it all the way and you know winning the Lombardi Trophy uh it’s it’s a whirlwind there’s you know obviously a lot of memories from two different you know occasions and you know two great organizations with the Broncos and and the Rams i mean the thing you’ll never forget is finishing the game running out of the booth getting on the field confetti coming down and just you you almost can’t take it in enough both times have just been experiences you’ll never forget what do you think in your mind has set those teams apart what makes a Super Bowl team there’s a lot of things that go into it you know it starts with just getting better every day taking advantage of these times in mini camp even into training camp and just kind of building you know both teams consistently got better as the season went along and then tr like the brotherhood that is built you know during those times even good and bad you saw both teams just continue to come together you know with championship worthy standards to go through hard times and continue to fight and then gel at just the right time when you need it how close do you think you guys are i think we’re we’re close i think we’re building the right way you feel it i I I do i think we got a great thing going you know Kevin’s just running a great operation a great team these guys we have a close-knit unit on offense defense and just as a whole team um we got to keep pushing we got to we got to keep working towards it i mean pretty stacked at your position group when you got two Pro Bowlers in there with Jonathan Grard and Andrew Van Ginkle how do you build off of their successful 2024 seasons you want to build that’s the first thing um you want to make sure that they’re continuing to to grow and he’s sacked he’s taken down by Jonathan Grard who has two today continuing to do what they do well and just try to point out the little things that you know maybe we need improvement on or they can add to their game but you know with some of those guys you just kind of want to continue to push them to reach greater heights and and add new tools to their tool belt what has the room been like because you’ve got JG he’s loud he’s more of a vocal leader then you got Andrew who’s quiet and mildmannered like what is the dynamic like there it it’s a great room it’s it just you know again you start with those two guys and again there are they are different but they both bring a lot to the room and they’re very helpful for the young guys and then obviously you have Dallas coming back for year two and and you know again continuing to grow there gabe and and Bo you know again all different personalities that combined to make the room it’s it’s great having those guys those older guys work with a younger group and then including the two new guys in uh Tyler Baddy and Chaz Chamblas what What kind of a step do you hope to see Dallas Turner make this season consistent growth i I think we can improve in in a bunch of facets daniel Jones is sacked dallas Turner with his first National Football League sack you can see it out here you know we’re not getting to rush the passer or set the edges yet um at you know full speed or with pads on but just as he’s going through taking the drops understanding the defense understanding what’s asked of him he’s calmed down so much and I think it just starts there for him to to feel good feel like he’s in a good spot and know exactly what we’re asking him to do so when did coaching become an option from you from for you i saw the finance degree the video coordinator assistant all that kind of stuff when did that become an option for you uh so I I I kind of went into college wanting to give it a shot and not really knowing how to get to it so Elon uh and coach Pete Lambo were able to give me a shot with two Super Bowl rings you might be in the Elon Hall of Fame eventually that that’d be wonderful sports Hall of Fame right uh one one question I’m asking um our GOS and coaches in these interviews uh if you could tell Viking fans one thing about your group and what they should look forward to this season what would it be relentless relentless passion for the game these guys are going to get after it running the you know rushing the passer playing the run with violence it’s they’re they’re going to be a a fun group to watch
