Matt Dumba Has Been Traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins!

We finally have a trade and the Dallas Stars just cleared a lot of cap space. Let’s talk about it. If you’re new here, I talk hockey every single day, so make sure you follow so you don’t miss anything. But Matt Dumba in a 2028 second round pick have been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguin in exchange for Vlatis Koya Chonak. This trade makes a ton of sense from both sides. We’ve heard Matt Dumba’s name been out there for weeks now in trade rumors just basically being a cap dump. The Dallas Stars need cap space and he was likely to be a cap casualty and there it finally is. And from the Pittsburgh Penguins perspective, they have a ton of cap space, so they can easily take on his capit. And they get a 2028 second round pick, which never hurts. And on top of that, they can probably flip Matt Dumba at the trade deadline. Don’t get me wrong, Matt Dumba hasn’t been good for a couple seasons now, but we see every year teams do stupid stuff at the trade deadline, especially for a defenseman that goes out and hits things. And that’s specifically what Matt Dumba is good for. So, I could easily see them getting another third or second round pick for him at the deadline if he has a kind of decent season. I am very interested to see what this trade leads to because the Dallas Stars now have cap space and on top of that the Pittsburgh Penguins now have an extra right-handed defenseman. So that probably means that Eric Carlson is getting traded here at some point. Let me know your thoughts on this deal in the comments below.
