you could tell it meant a lot to jamaree in the little post game chat, what a sweet moment
Glad I stayed up for that, even if summer league doesn’t mean anything
Chris looked good, like he has the past 2 seasons in the G-League and SL. Looks comfortable in that wing spot and doesn’t have to play center for once.
If Ajax can play like he did in the final 5 minutes each night, then he can have a roster spot with some minutes sprinkled in there for sure.
I think having strong guards like Bouyea and Nowell help but they fall in love with the 2-man game and guys like Tyler and Bogi disappear when they’re not involved in it.
I love you Jam
I don’t think Sims is expendable but he isn’t needed if Nance can reliably eat minutes at the 5.
Bogi is not ready, stash him.
No Cormac Ryan does not deserve a roster spot. He’s 27.
Livingston is a SL all-star but he doesn’t have a position at the next level… But I’d still support him being resigned and coming back just to make sure. Trade him at the deadline if he doesn’t show anything.
I’ve seen Bouyea up close and can confirm he is a superstar.
The 8-game losing streak at Summer League is over. Their last win was July 8, 2023
Someone please post his Jama Time shot on the NBA thread
Hell yeah
Livingston played within himself and just played an all around solid game which is what you wanna see, there are occasional flashes of a little more like that fadeaway in the 4th, but if he can defend, make shots, cuts and hit the boards, he will find himself on rosters. Maybe with you guys.
Bouyea can run a team, make shots, make passes that create/maintain advantages and put teammates in positions to score, and he hustles defensively even if his size hurts him there. He definitely is not an amazing defender but he does put the effort in. He’s deserving of a 3rd PG spot. Teams like him clearly, since he keeps getting chances. Let’s see if this is a stepping stone moment for him.
AJax confidently made that 3 late and then blew up a Nuggets play defensively. His defense overall today wasn’t great. There’s a lot on the line for him…we’ll see how he steps up. He’s gotta take shots. The percentages are there. I don’t think he has the mechanics to ever be super high volume but he cannot turn down open shots.
Cormac Ryan actually defended OK tonight, and showed high feel in passing situations. He’s if nothing else, someone to keep tabs on.
What a fun squad! I’m really glad we have competent guard play (Boyea, Nowell) and center play (Nance) this year after suffering through the incomplete rosters we’ve trotted out the last two seasons lol
Livingston has his limitations with his size and offensive creation, but he looks really solid in his limited role. Plays with NBA level physicality and rarely makes mental mistakes on either end. His projected NBA role (3&D) still looks like something attainable.
Nance does great dirty work (screening/rebounding) and has solid hands/touch. Obviously isn’t a switchable defender, but he has a solid floor for a 2-way guy.
Smith looked a bit like a ghost out there, but I still think there is room for optimism. I liked his competitiveness on defense (even with some fouls + missteps). I’m not worried about the shot (it’s legit). I’m more interested in his value as a potential weak side defender/rebounder and whatever juice he might have on offense. (So far I haven’t seen much of either, but there is plenty of ball left to play.)
Bogi looked rough (which isn’t completely unexpected for a 19 year in Summer League). I buy the shot and offensive creativity (especially from his game tape in Serbia), but I am far more concerned about his strength and (especially) defensive awareness. He looked incredibly slow and lackadaisical on rotations and couldn’t seem to leverage his size for…anything. This isn’t a death sentence, but it does mean he’ll need solid development (and that he isn’t NBA ready, which most scouts/fans already expected).
Ryan is a legit shooter. However, I was equally impressed by his off-ball movement, finishing in transition, and general energy/speed on both sides of the ball. Not to mention, he isn’t a ball stopper and didn’t force bad shots. He just looks like a NBA-level 3 point specialist, and that role will always have value. I would consider taking him on a 2-way above Umude.
And, of course, Jamaree Bouyea! I liked this guy all the way back to his time with Sab Fran, so it’s cool to see him have his Summer League moment. He checks all of the right boxes for a bench PG (sets the table, avoids mistakes, can get enough separation to get the defense moving, shoots decent enough to keep defenders honest, etc.) Like Nance, he is exactly the kind of solid contributor you want on a two way.
Summer League is my oasis in a basketball-less summer, so I am stoked to have a respectable team this year haha
