Toronto Maple Leafs TRADE Ryan Reaves to San Jose Sharks for Henry Thrun | NHL NEWS
Hey everyone, quick trade video. The Toronto Beliefs have traded Ryan Reeves to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a defenseman Henry Thrun. So, we’re going to go through it. If you’re a new subscriber, welcome. I hope you give the channel a chance. Comment your thoughts down below on the trade and definitely please hit that thumbs up. Really interesting trade. I mean, I’ll say it for Sharks fans that are going to be watching this video as well. Ryan Reeves, great locker room guy. I think the difference here for Toronto was, is he going to be playing in the lineup? Probably not. And also the cap hit. the capit’s in around 1.3 million. So, if it’s buried in the miners, you’re still getting a bit of a cap hit against the NHL uh salary cap. So, I think for the Toronto Maple Leafs, you avoid that with bringing in Henry Thrun, who only has a million-doll cap hit. Uh so, you know what? It’s it’s in a scenario when you’re in the playoffs or like in that contention, 200,000 is still 200,000. So, for the Toronto Maple Leafs, uh, that’s probably some of this, but also 24y old defenseman, 6’2. And just to kind of bring up a couple other things, uh, Scott Wheeler brings this up, says, “I’ve always had a soft spot for Thron’s game, was one of my favorites in the 2019 class. He’s just a number six to number eight now, but he’ll play games for the Leafs next year.” And gives them some flexibility if they decide to move one of their seven regulars they already have. So, if there is a trade that makes sense for the Toronto Maple Leafs in terms of trading Simone Benois or trading Brandon Carlo, I would hold on to those guys. The physicality, the penalty killing, all of that, and of course, Brandon Carlo, his role and salary cap for the next two years is going to be big. But if you can get a legit top six forward, Henry Thrun is a capable bottom pair defenseman, that’s what he is at this point. Could he become more? I always say don’t give up on a defenseman until their mid20s. He’s basically there. Uh, but I think with 6’2 the mobility, I think Henry Thun can still provide more. And he was on a Sharks team coming from, I believe he’s on the Ducks as well. So, I just think there’s more to offer from this player. And being around a more competitive team, I think, uh, Henry Thun could be something for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Um, is it something big? Probably not. But I think 6’2, 190 pounds, as I said, only 24 years old. Uh, he’s in year uh, two of two uh, of the $1 million per year. So, $2 million contract. Uh, if you look at his points from last year in the 2425 season with the Sharks, 58 games, 12 points. He had a couple goals to show for. Um, as I said, I think this player has more to offer. Uh, especially where he was drafted as well. Um, I think he, yeah, he was drafted fourth round, so he was kind of seen as like a steel at the time, but then hasn’t really panned out anything more than that. But, he was an interesting prospect there for a little bit. Um, so I’m do I’m looking at the Leafs in terms of next moves. I think they’re going to try to trade Matt Benning as well. He’s at about a $1.25 million cap hit. So, again, it’s over that limit of what you can bury. Is it a big number? No. Uh, but I do think that this is enough of a deal that we talk about it because Henry Thun’s probably going to get games in with the Toronto Leafs and Ryan Reeves is definitely going to get games in with the San Jose Sharks. I think the Sharks are adding Ryan Reeves uh very much to protect the young guys. Uh, you saw it last year with the Anaheim Ducks. uh they or I guess it was the year before as well like they were getting bullied around so they added Ross Johnson. This is similar to that for the San Jose Sharks. They don’t really have that tough guy right now in the lineup or as many tough guys. So adding Ryan Reeves, a little bit of that figure to I don’t know be with the younger guys, protect the young guys and at the end of the day, uh the Sharks have the roster spots right now. I would say they have a lot of those in between guys and a lot of those bottom six forwards. So they really can choose to either trade some out or just bury some. Uh, but Ryan Reeves is a character. He’s a locker room guy. So, you put him on the fourth line for maybe half the games in the season and then he gets closer to his 10,000 games. I don’t know if he’s going to get there. I know he talked about that on a recent appearance, but we’ll see. But give me your thoughts, guys, on what the Leaf’s next move could be. I do think, as I said, with him like Henry Thun now and Phil Meyers in the pitcher, I think the Leafs see those guys as capable NHL defenseman. So, bringing those two guys in maybe allows you to move one of the active NHL defenseman. uh in terms of the other guys I just mentioned. So, give me your thoughts on what the next move could be for the Toronto Police and Brad for a living. He’s making all these small moves until he goes crazy with the big one on like a Friday night. So, uh we’ll keep an eye on it. Subscribe, like, comment, notification bell. We’ll see you on the next one, guys. Peace.

Comment your thoughts and next trades for Sharks and Leafs!
Reeves was never going to play for the Leafs this year. He is a liability on the ice now. Too slow, no skill. He rarely fought last year.
Trading Carlo is a huge mistake, Reilly is the dman that they need to move.
You knew once Reaves spoke the truth about Marner and the fans he was gone
I want to cry
From Frank Seravalli that leafs GM brad Treliveing and Sharks Gm are still in heat talk around F Nicholas Robertson and D Mario Ferraro and F Roni Hirvonen NHL signing rights and leafs want retain on Mario Ferraro 3.25m aav and sharks will to retain for price
Thrun just isn't very good. But he's young enough so maybe he figures it out, but the clock's ticking pretty quickly on him. 7th d-man you hope not to use too often
I like this trade! Kind of surprised from the Sharks point of view 👌👌
The leafs just got softer after getting rid of these heart and soul guys Luke Schenn Tyler Bertuzzi Nikita Grebenkin and now Ryan Reaves!
We just lost a whole season of Reavo….Now we’ll never know if he would have won his 1 fight.
I'll stick to watching decades of hockey from the past the game today is terribly watered down pretty boy sport way overpaid For crappy predictable entertainment.
ryan reaves isn't protecting anyone anymore. he had 1 fight last season, bro is just going through the motions collecting probably his last nhl paycheck.
