MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 10, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
just about set to go. And our pitcher tonight, Jacob Lopez and Singy, that may be his name, but the strikeout is his game. Well, Boo, I can tell you’ve been working on that one, but yes, you are right. This guy strikeout per nine over 11. I mean, that’s just getting it done. There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup. And when you look at what he’s able to do, man, it’s going to be a fun one to watch today. Ready to go. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Jurgson Proar. That one ripped left field. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. Throws to second. Not in time. That’s a leadoff double. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. When you can turn a ball around at 107 off the bat, it’s going to make you feel really good inside. If he elevates that a little bit more, it’s definitely out of here. Matt Olsen up to the plate. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. That’s a strike. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in. Proar stands at second with no outs. And down on strikes he goes. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out. And there’s one away. Wow. That’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call. So hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can. Austin Riley the next to hit takes ball one. Riley is one of those players that made his presence known in the majors right away. He hit a 438 ft home run off a Michael Walk fast in his second at bat, which is probably the best way to make a first impression as a rookie. Boo. One out and a runner at second. Check swing called strong. [Applause] strike three and that’s two in a row. So backto back strikeouts now and they still haven’t managed to do anything with the leadoff double. Yeah, Boo and you just don’t want to get careless here. You’ve done a really good job to get two outs after that leadoff double as you mentioned and just got to execute your pitches and it’s a non-issue. So here’s Murphy now. drilled in the air. High and deep right field. That one’s back there. Out of here and it gives them the lead in the first. It’s two nothing. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. Always scary for a pitcher when a guy can take a fast ball down the middle and hit it to the opposite field. No holes in a swing like that. And that time that ball was hit hard. And here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish. First pitch misses. Albz measures 5’8 in hitting fifth in today’s lineup and he’s a native of Kurissau. Two out space is empty. Two outs. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. fights that one away. Still one and two. Two down to swing and a highf fly ball deep left field. That’s carrying. See you later. They go back to back. His seventh home run of the season. And they tack one on the board. It’s three nothing. Backto back jacks and this club is fired up right now, Boo. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. Base is empty with two away. And now Drake Baldwin swinging a foul straight back. Now the one swing and a miss and two pitch misses inside. One and two to count. Really good take especially with two strikes and it’s even updown. [Music] had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now three nothing. Back here with my pal Singi. And now here’s the starter for Atlanta, Grant Holmes. What do we have on him? Well, this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound. Hitters batting under 200 against him. And they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything, doing any type of damage. The only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surreners a rare home run. But outside of that, it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today. And now Lawrence Butler. That one out to right. Fairchild. Nabs it one away. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now. Brent Rooker and Boo. He’s their team leader in home runs. So, you know, the pitchers on that other side, man, they took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting. You know, he’s got a lot of pop and it’s real pop. It’s not fluky at all. He can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly. So, watch out when he steps in. Jacob Wilson in the box now. No balls in a strike. Pitch misses. One ball, one strike. line drive and there’s a hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. That’s off the inside corner and that’s ball one. Wilson leads off first with one away. Look out. And it hit him perfect. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Oh, backto back batters hit by a pitch now. So they’re all loaded up. Shay Langalers getting ready to hit. First pitch and he just misses and another ball. Pressure’s on right here. Two count. Base is loaded. You don’t want to fall to a three ball count. and then walk in or on. He’s got to challenge the hitter right here. That’s ball three. Good pitchers make pitches in big situations. And right here with a middle of the order hitter up, runner in scoring position, he’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike. One out, base is full. Ball four. He’s walked in a run. He’s really gotten himself into a mess out there and now forces home a run with the wall. The Definitely getting away from him. So bases loaded with one away. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. That’s off the mark. Ball one. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot inside. And that’s ball two. In situations like these, the air can get really thin up there at the plate. Got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down. And a pop off right side foul territory. He’s under it. Pauls it in. And there’s two away. Well, that’s a frustrating at bat right there. Big opportunity and just missed it. I know he wanted to do some damage. Next guy will have to pick him up. Here’s the rookie third baseman, Maxy. right through there for a strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. So, they’re all loaded up with two outs. And that one fouled off. And a swinging miss. Inning over and it could have been worse. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of the second and stepping in is the speedy Eli White. Lopez back to work. Swinging a ground ball up the middle and he can’t come up with it. Safe at first. No play. We’ll see how they score this rightielder. So man aboard Stewart Fairchild next up for the Braves. Runner on the go. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck and that’s got extra bases written all over it. Headed for the plate. He’ll score. Oh no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. Got a good pitch to drive. stayed short with his bat path to the ball and caught it out front and he stayed long in his follow through. That’s how you split the gap and that’s pretty much a double every time. Runner in scoring position, no outs. And next for Atlanta, Nick Allen and first offering is fouled off. Pop foul out of play off to the right. [Music] The short stop takes the ball. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. swaying and a ball popped in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. The run comes in from second and it’s an RBI single and they lead by four. Well, he wasn’t afraid to hit with two strikes. I think he choked up a little bit, maybe spread out, but he got the job done right there. Now batting Juriken Proofar led off this game with a double. Here goes the runner. Popped up. Curts. And there’s one down. Now batting first. Yeah, the batter now Matt Olsen. His first at bat was a strikeout. gets the slider in there for a strike. Filling up the strike zone hasn’t been the problem so far. It’s the quality of the strikes that’s been the real issue. And you look at the first inning, that’s what we saw. Too many pitches out over the plate. No balls, two strikes. right through there. Got him. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. No, that’s not the best two strike fast ball I’ve seen, but certainly got away with the location there. You know, sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count, you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate, not expecting it, and it just kind of freezes you. Right. stands in now and watches strike one. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. Two outs. Try to get him to chase on the change up that time. Ripped to third, but handled. And that’ll end the inning. They get two runs on three hits, no errors, and one left. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Braves five and the A’s won. And we’re back now. It’s the second baseman, Zack Gellof, trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. Swing and a ball popped up. Baldwin and there’s one down. Centerielder Denzel Clark. Next up for the A’s, Denzel Clark. Boo. This guy’s just a tremendously talented center fielder. Gold glove caliber type out there. Offensively, he can do some things, but you know, also has some streakiness as well. I think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out. you know, he saves runs in the outfield, so that’s going to buy him more time to work things out at the dish. Fouled off left side and one and two. Swinging a ball line to center. White makes a nice running catch. Wow. He looked like he was running before the ball was hit. Didn’t have much time as that was a hard hit liner, but a nice job of covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Butler batted for the second time. And that’s strike one. Whipped right field. That’s back there. That one way back and it’s gone. And they cut into the deficit. It’s 52. That home run narrows the gap between these two. This one isn’t over yet. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. So, two away with nobody on. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s and that one sliced fouled. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. Bottom half of inning number two. This one in the air right field and that’ll fall for a base hit. Brent Rooker now at the plate taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. That one misses and the count is one and one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Falling behind two and one and it’s fouled away. Cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. The A’s get one on this homer. It’s now 52. Major League Baseball is on the show. Top half of the third inning. Now it’s the DH Shawn Murphy. That missed by a lot. One and0. I think this is an important inning on the mound for him in this game. He’s got to find a way to settle things down and give some length in this start. That one finds the zone and the count one and one. Let’s go. And he hits a ground ball right side in plenty of time to first. Lead off hitter gone in the third. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball. Azie Alb’s up to the plate. He’s already homered in this game. That’s in for a strike. Out to short. Wilson to first. First two batters retired here in the top of the third. You’ve got to be kidding me. Did you see that throw? Not really, Boo. I mean, it happened in the blink of an eye, it seemed. But thankfully, Statcast is here to help us out. I mean, you don’t see many throws across the infield that get up into the 90s. So, he really reached back for that one, and he had to to get the out. Two out, space is empty. Drake Baldwin. Next up for the Braves. Foul ball there. next offering in there for a strike. That is strike two. Ball one there. Two pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Down in order go the Braves and it remains 52. ready to go for the last half of the inning. Digging in, Nick Kurts late with the swing there. Just threw that fast ball by him, elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. And that one fouled off. That’s down and in. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. That K is his third of the game. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Langalers stands in here. Tried to hold back his swing there but went around. One out. Base is empty. [Music] Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Quickly in an 02 count. You’ve got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball. Put it in play somewhere. Then you got a chance. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. That misses now. One and two. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Back-to- back strikeouts to start the frame and that’s now three in a row. Yeah, he’s really settling in and getting a feel for his pitches, throwing them where he wants to right now. So, we’ll see how long he can keep this streak going. Soderstrom in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. And another ball. Three balls. No strike. swing and a line drive ripped out into left center field. That’ll touch down for a hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. I know swinging at a three 0 pitch can be debated, but at the end of the day, it’s a hitter’s count. You know, a strike is coming, so why not take advantage and attack the pitch? That was a good piece of hitting and it paid off with the base hit. The batter now, Maxy and that’s outside. Ball one. Sodstrom off of first with two away. Swing and a miss. Strike one. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. had a swing and a miss at the slider in the dirt. Up with it, fires the first and it’s in time for the third out. So that’ll end the inning. The A’s strand one. They trail at 5-2. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth at the plate. Eli White and first offering is fouled off. on the ground right side dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and so they end up with some speed on at first. So digging in Steuart Fairchild. He doubled home a run at his first AB. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. I love this part of the game. Does he really want to try and steal second against this catcher? I know he’s fast, but it’s pretty risky. Nobody out. Runner at first. Go, baby. Let’s go. Line drive Carous. And there’s one down. Nick Allen. And now the shorts stop. Nick Allen RBI single his last time up. Allen 26 years old and he was a third round pick back in 2017. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Mitch Spence getting loose out there. Sears getting loose as well. Next pitch is downstairs. Chris, with that distraction and the speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes, there’s a ball, the throw, tag, and he’s out. That goes to show you stealing a base is a tough thing to do and far from a sure thing. Even with big time speed, it’s not easy to catch him. But that was a great catch and throw. Quick, not rushed and accurate. Swinging a ground ball and it stays fair. Now he’ll turn for second. in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Here’s the switch hitting left fielder Juriken Proar one for two. Three to go, baby. Let’s go. Proofar gets a piece there. Man at second. Swing and a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Sodstrom settles under it and makes the catch. And that is that one left for Atlanta. They’re still out in front. 5-2. And we’re back. Bottom four. And now Zack Gellof. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. And that’s a strike. You know, these athletics showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. And the right-hander deals pitch misses there and it’s one and two. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Two-2 on the way towards first. Olsen handles the chance. He’ll do it himself. One out in the bottom of the fourth. Now betting the center Denzel Clark. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. 0 for one so far. That misses and that’s ball one in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. On the ground to short Allen and he beats the throw. shows off the wheels right there. An infield single. Well, that’s one of those where you just have to tip your cap because he couldn’t have played that one any better. Stood no chance with the speed running down the line. Back to the top of the lineup. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. [Music] Throw to first. Clark back on a dive. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And now it’s even one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. It’s so hard to slow yourself down when you see that juicy breaking ball, but the most success happens when you try to take that right back up the middle approach. [Music] Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. man at first. One away. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. We got a full count in the dirt. Blocked. gets a piece and stays alive. 3-2. Battling here as he fouls it away. Grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10 on the ground. Two ball. There’s one. What a double play that was. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We’ve played four. It’s the Braves five and the A’s two. All set for the start of the inning. And here is Matt Olsen. Lopez back to work. That one outside and that is ball one. You know, these Braves digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well. He swings and fouls one off. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. Misses two and two. Two two the count. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Here’s the pitch to Olsen. Fights it off. He’ll see another. The two- two on the way. And a foul ball. He stays alive. And it remains two and two. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Third time he struck out in this one. And definitely an individual performance you want to flush. She just hasn’t looked very comfortable up there. Just one of those days. But when you’re still winning the ball game, at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that W. And here comes Mark Kate as he’s ready to make a change and go to the bullpen. Jacob Lopez departs. It’s a three-run game. And we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Mitch Spence on a pitch out of the pen here. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Here is Austin Riley. takes it in for the out. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Shawn Murphy. He’s already homered here in this one. And that’s outside. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. That one is upstairs. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Fouls one off. Two at two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two down. Nobody on. Drilled out towards left center field. That one’s carrying and it’s gone. Another homer. His second home run of the game. And they add to their lead. It’s 62. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. You feel like everything goes slow motion when a breaking ball like that leaves the hand right down the middle of the plate and it’s like the pitcher screaming no and the hitter saying yes and the ball gets tattooed for a big home run. So, two down. Here is Aussie Alb’s up to hit that clips the corner. That one pushed to the left and fouled. and ball one. Two strikes. That one just misses. Fouls it back with two strikes. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. [Music] Good job to fight that one off on the ground right side and it goes just fouled. Stays alive. swing and a miss and he got him. He battled for a long time but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. One more for Atlanta on the homer. It’s now 62. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Leading off, Jacob Wilson. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. In the air, left field, Profar has a beat on it. And out number one on the grab. Well, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. And that one lifted in the air center field. White under it, makes the grab and there’s two gone. Now batting number 16. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. He’s 0 for one and a foul ball. The Braves leading by four. Last half of inning number five. That one missed. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout and makes the grab and that is that and the A’s are gone in order. They still trail it here. It’s six-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the top of the six. Now it’s the Atlanta catcher Drake Baldwin. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. And now here’s a speed threat outfielder Eli White. He’s two for two. Just missed. Baldwin gets his lead at first with nobody out. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball two. That’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. That one’s in there. Three balls, two strikes. Just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. And ball four, two aboard. That’s a nice atbat and a great take on 32. Probably could have gone either way in that spot around the knees. Now it’s the right fielder Steuart Fairchild Singi. He’s got a history of coming through in big spots. I know I like to talk about I’m not sure whether clutch actually exists, but you look at the numbers and this guy always seems to deliver in those spots. On the ground is second. Might be two. Good feed. That’s one relay to first double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Nick Allen will hit next. And that one fouled off. Well, I think it’s the ability to assess the situation, understanding what the pitcher has, what he’s trying to get people out on, and then being able to use the entire field. Two outs and a runner at third and we’re the top half of the sixth. Little bit low. And that’s ball one. If you’re a guy that can only hit to one field, then you’re really not going to be able to come through in clutch situations because pitchers are going to adjust. But because he’s able to use the entire field, that’s why he’s so succ Now. This is through for a base hit. Runner in from third to extend their lead. It’s an RBI single and the lead is up to five. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Proofar in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. When you played, did you play with guys that you thought were clutch and sort of what were the attributes you said that’s what he possesses that allows him to come through? Well, we always used to joke, you know, guys want to eat steak and there were some that just had a knack could understand that all right, this is a a big, you know, payout if I can come through with a knock here. But I think when you really look at the numbers, really audit everything, guys kind of are who they are. Remember Mark Katse was a real good defensive outfielder. Good instincts, not great speed. Yeah. And I figured you would get Kat into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. Two outs. And that just misses. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another ground ball to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now a 72 ball game. Back after this on the show. And we’re back. Well, we go bottom six. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Bryce Elder up and loosening in the pen. Hernandez getting cranked up as well. Next offering is fouled back and they’ll do it again. That one close rule the ball and the count one and two. good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. That one 95 missed up top and the count is even. Two and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. Up next now the left fielder Tyler Soder Stroke Tyler check swing and he went. That’s strike one. One’s the count. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. makes the grab. Two down. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Maxy up next for the A’s. Bowl for two in this one. At 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Ball one. The Braves leading by five here in the bottom of the sixth. In the air, left field down the line. Fair ball. still able to come through behind in the count right there. Hooked around that pitch on the outside, but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely. And that takes quick, strong wrist to pull that off. Next to hit, Zack Gellof. And there’s a ball. Ball one. No strikes. Muny leads off first with two down to the inning. Outside corner. There’s the strike. Check swing. Did he go? No, he didn’t. Oh, this guy’s going to have to slow things down. There’s no reason for him to even check swing on that pitch. was never even close. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. Hit on the ground to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. The A’s strand one. They’re down five. It’s seven to2. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Number 49. Hasn’t pitched in the last three days. And now it’s Matt Olsen’s turn to hit. 0 for three with three strikeouts. just off the outside edge and it’s one and now a little barking back towards the umpire. Clearly thought he got that outside corner on what was a pretty big pitch. Sometimes that only makes it worse for you moving forward, but it can also open up that location in the future if the umpire thinks there’s a chance that he missed it. Next offering is in for a strike. The one-1 is fouled off. The one two ball two, baby. Let’s go. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another up the middle. Over to first and Olen is set down. Batting third base. Here is Austin Riley 0 for three in this one. And first offering is fouled off. Base is empty. One away here in the top half of inning number seven. Swinging a foul out of play. That one missing inside. Movement in the bullpen. Elvis Alvarado preparing to come on if needed. Sears a left-hander also throwing. The one two ground ball right side lays out but he can’t squeeze it. The throw comes in too late and they come away without an out. [Music] Next is the designated hitter, Shawn Murphy. He’s already homerred twice. The last one back of the fifth. It seems like he can’t miss right now, seeing the baseball as well as anyone on the field. Now, I know the odds are against him, but who’s going to bet against this guy right now? And that is out of play. And now it’s even up. One ball, one strike. That’s ball two. There’s the swing and a miss. Oh, that’s that slurp right there. Threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Little tardy on that fast ball. Is going to have to get it going a little quicker. Get that front foot down. Two. Struck him out of the front door. Breaking ball. So, two down now and here is Azie Albet. And that drops in for a strike. out to center and he makes the catch and that’s the third out. One hit, one left. Midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Braves seven and the A’s two. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Bryce Elder. And you know, bullpen guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. Here’s the center fielder, Denzel Clark. There’s the strike. Elder in his second season, 25 years old, and he was a fifth round pick in 2020. Next pitch is outside. The 1-1 is fouled off. Just a weak fly ball this time. Fairchild tracks it down for the out. Those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Butler one in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Chopped left side and foul ball. The 1-1 is fouled off. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. And now the count is even. Two two count. to third. Riley slings to first in time. Now batting short stop Jacob Wilson. Two outs. Base is empty. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. [Applause] And that’s in there at the knees. Well, an at bat can be a little bit of a dance. Strike one here, but few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Swinging a foul. Pushed off to the right. Swings and misses. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. JP Sears. He last pitched two days ago. Here’s the catcher to hit. Drake Baldwin and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone, middle away. And that one upstairs. Ball one. and downstairs. Two balls, two strikes. Check swing tried to hold up. Now it’ll appeal to third and he went around. Rule the swing. Oh, tough night at the dish. punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. Not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. He’ll have some adjustments to make. White batting with one down. Takes the strike. Right side. And that one handled. The throw to first. Fine play in the hole for the out. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it. Now in for the Braves. Steuart Fairchild. Singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. So, how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat he thinks this ball’s going to get down because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground. He enters the picture and breaks a guy’s heart. Two down on ball there. There’s one guy that I can think about though who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch he’s under it at first and that’ll do it. Braves go down quickly here but they’re still on top seven to two. Bottom of the eighth and now the right fielder Brent Rooker. Yeah, some guys just have instincts, right? I mean, that’s the way it goes. We talk about Larry Walker, the Hall of Famer, and his instinct on the bases despite the fact that he didn’t play a ton of baseball as a kid. And the first pitch misses for ball one. When you look at the ability to save runs defensively, but then also put runs up on the scoreboard, that’s the kind of player that every championship team needs to have. the 1-1. And that one is inside. Right through there for a strike. Gets a piece and stays alive. Still two and two after the foul ball. The two- two and misses inside. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. He forced a lot of pitches to be thrown and ends up collecting a hit. Now batting number 16. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Well, the laid off man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Rooker aboard here at first with nobody out. Swing and a miss and a count one and one. All one strike. Just two. Not close with that one. Full count. Three and two. Runner at first with no outs here. And ball four, two aboard. Well, we’ve seen this recipe cook up a big inning plenty of times. Two runners on, nobody out. And they’re in the heart of their order. It’s just a great opportunity to put up a crooked number. First and second, no outs. And now the catcher comes up to him. Shay Langalers had a breaking ball misses outside. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. Elder fires. Tap foul at the plate. First and second here. No outs. The one-1 is fouled off and a foul ball. He stays alive. [Music] Outside and it’s two and two. swings through it and that’s a strike out. [Music] Tyler Soderstroke up next for the A’s. One for three. It immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. Swing and a miss. 0 and two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Runners at first and second with one gone here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offering is outside. struck him out swinging, but no advance from the runners. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Max Muny the next to hit and first offering is fouled off. Swinging a miss at a slider. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. Riley sends it across to first. That’s the inning. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set to start the ninth in this one. And the batter will be the shortstop. Nick Allen. Sears back to work. Pitch misses there. Ball one. Activity in the bullpen. Justin Sterner. The hardth throwing righty is up and loosening. Number 50 also throwing. Next offering in there for a strike and the count one and one. That one catches the corner for a strike. swings and misses. Struck him out. Here’s Proarielder Pro. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Base is empty, one away. You’re in the top of the ninth. Proofar gets a piece there. You could see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. That’s out to center field. makes a nice grab and a full sprint and there’s two away. That was just a great jump and route to the ball. Well, it had to be. If he was going to cover all that ground and bring in that sinking liner, that’s the way it had to be done. Nice job. Here’s a rip to short, but he’s there for the third out. Nothing doing for the offense that time. 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine. It’s the Braves seven and the A’s two. Dave Bell Hernandez gets the ball now and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Here’s the second base, Zack Gell. Zack and first offering is fouled off and ball one. on the ground to the left. Riley fires to first. One out. Bottom of the ninth. Now that is centerielder Clark. Next up for the A’s, Denzel Clark. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond. And this guy is at the top of the list. Just missed. Yeah, we go beyond just uh, you know, fielding percentage and, you know, what it looks like, but the ability to have range and, you know, close holes that, you know, are normally there against an average defender. But this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness. The Braves leading by five. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Yeah, that’s outside. It’s two and two. Hugan, the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump. And defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. Here’s a 2-2. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Battling here as he fouls it away. One down. Base is empty. Swing and a miss. struck him out. The A’s down to their final out. Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter low and away with some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. Tell you what, that’s a tremendous two- strike pitch. Butler at the plate and takes high there. swing and a miss as he was late that time. One and one, two down, nobody on here. The last half of inning number nine. Lifted to left and that should do it. Hauls it in and that’s the ball game. Well, Boo, four games wasn’t too long of a losing streak, but they’re definitely happy to be back in the win column. And now you can turn things around, get on the right track, and probably start a winning streak from here. 72 your final here today. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shambi. Thanks for joining us.
