[Carlin] Daryl Morey addresses Sixers losing Guerschon Yabusele in free agency

  1. Can’t wait to read all the usual level-headed comments regarding this perfectly reasonable response!

  2. Ultimately this was a “good problem to have.” Nobody expected Grimes to pop the fuck off like he did, and earn the concept of $18-24mill per year. We traded for him knowing he was good, and expecting to be able to keep him and yabu both.

If we had known what it might cost to keep him, we probably would’ve been more intentional about getting some ROI for Yabu at the deadline.

Hindsight 20/20 and I’ll miss that beautiful booty, but Grimes is an actual fuckin piece.

  3. Im a massive Morey defender, but its clear to me we lost Yabu because we were trying to play hardball with Grimes.

A competent organization comes to an agreement with their RFA for the max amount possible that would allow for them to bring back their other priority FA.

We could’ve offered Grimes a 4y / $94m contract that payed him $23.66m annually. Should’ve had that done on day 1 in order to offer Yabu the TPMLE.

Its reminiscent of trading for Jimmy Butler without knowing if you want to pay him or not.

  4. Morey quote from the article:

“Yeah, that sucked,” Morey said in Las Vegas on Friday. “Again, we got several questions on restricted free agency, I do think that overall structure played into that. We offered him the most we could that wouldn’t limit us and our ability to retain Quentin. That was above minimum. I’ve seen reports saying that that wasn’t, but it was definitely below what he got ended up getting.”

“I think people have said like that created a challenge for us, and it’s true,” Morey added. “So we want to retain Quentin. We hope to work that out with his representation, and our focus was on making sure that happens. That did impact what we could offer Guerschon.”

  5. I’m making a horror movie specifically for Daryl Morey and Josh Harris called “The Tax”

  6. Everything that was said has been pointed out by everyone and I am not saying that negatively its just been obvious from the get go.

Signing Grimes is more important to the organization and offered what they could to Yabu nothing else they could of done really in my opinion.

  7. Why couldn’t Joel restructure and defer some his salary to help sign these guys. After all he missed a large portion of season and still got fully paid. Thoughts?
