The San Diego Padres, according to a industry source, have been relentless in their pursuit of Duran and have repeatedly approached the Red Sox. Problem is, they don’t match up particularly well with the Sox. They have some intriguing starters in Dylan Cease and Michael King, but both are in the final year of their deals and the Red Sox, unsurprisingly, are not about to move three-plus years of control of Duran for just two months’ control of two pitchers, especially with King currently sidelined

The one hope is this: GM A.J. Preller is among the game’s most creative executives. If Preller could package his team’s top two prospects — catcher Ethan Salas and shortstop Leo de Vries — and acquire a starter with term whom he could then flip for Duran, maybe there’s a deal still to be made between the clubs. Otherwise, it’s difficult to envision them as trading partners.

King, Leo, Salas….whats this guy smoking?

  2. Salas and De Vries should be off limits for anyone tbh. Everyone else should be fair game

  3. We’re desperate, and the Sox know it. There’s no reason for them to trade Duran for anything less than their exact demands. It would be awesome to have Duran for this playoff push and through 2028, but at some point you need to let this one go if it’s going to cost you everything. Just Durran is not going to fix our offense and push us over the top this year, that’s wishful thinking. There are better, more reasonable trades we can make this year without giving up the whole farm.

  4. am I the only one that thinks Duran is fools gold? He has .882 OPS at fenway but .620 OPS away. He can’t hit leftys (.568 OPS) so that just compounds an already huge issue with this roster construction. I don’t think he’ll come close to his production last year ever again and he’ll be a solid everyday player (ala cronenworth) but not an all star level you would expect for the asking price

  5. I like sheets in LF. Just please focus on the catcher position and RH DH options. Maybe a cheap 5th starter like heaney could help us. Do not overpay for another LH handed OF with less pop. Sheets is hitting better than duran and is adapting to the OF well.

A DH like Ozuna or adolis garcia will work

Sean murphy or Shea Langeliers will be good catching options.

Edit: Dont look now but sheets has better defensive numbers and offensive numbers than durran.

    Sheets OPS+ = 117. His OAA is -2

    Duran OPS+ = 107. His OAA is -6…

  6. Bro, just find a serviceable catcher and a couple of bench bats who aren’t completely embarrassing.

  7. There’s zero chance this is happening. We all know AJ works in the dark. None of his moves are ever telegraphed like this. There are no leaks in the front office.

Not to mention he’s not a RHH which is what the team has been focusing on with the amount of lefties we already have and the need to hit lefties better. Just doesn’t make sense.

  8. Duran is not going to fix this team.. I hope he doesn’t end up on our roster if we lose pieces like de vries, Salas or king

  9. This article tells me that AJ is about to get Duran for basement prospects, or we don’t want Duran at all and are going after someone else.

Not a chance any of these details came out of our office

  10. AJ is definitely gonna overpay for this dude and we’ll be stuck with Martin fucking Maldonado all season.

  11. This is legit hilarious.

Boston gets a young controllable SP, third team gets two of mlb’s top prospects, the Padres get…..Jaren Duran?

    No thanks.

  12. King and Leo? Nah man I wouldn’t take that, I mean Cease might be pretty reasonable but he’s the only one. The other 3 mentioned aren’t. No deal

  13. People seem to keep forgetting that they can do multi-team deals. They have pitching depth at the big league level that they could trade for a few farm pieces that could be added to a trade with Boston. IMO, if Duran happens, it will probably require another team who needs MLB P talent (which the Padres have), and also has the prospects that Boston wants (plus probably one of our big farm pieces).

  14. Just get Luis Robert jr. he’s a RHH that would be much cheaper and has more potential than Duran

  15. Morejon and Estrada mentioned? Please no. I’d prefer to have Cease and Suarez moved before those two.

  16. Might as well throw in tatis and machado with how unrealistic this trade is.

  17. we need to pursure luis robert not duran. duran is an emotional rollercoaster, not good for the clubhouse. luis robert might just need a change of scenary to blossom and fulfill his potential. either way he is a better defender and can steal as many bases with just as much power as well, and should not cost our top 2 prospects or a starter. just give them 4 of our top 40 prospects and call it a day.
