MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jul 11, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. Major League Baseball on tap. The Atlanta Braves taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. First pitch coming at you right after the break. Just about set. Our starter in this one, Miles Michael. And Singi, it’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that can keep a good tempo. Don’t give hitters time to adjust or think. They can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Late swing fouled off on the ground to third. Whips it across and an easy out to start the game. All right, let’s take a look at the lineup. A really frustrating showing for them in their last game. Lots of traffic on the bases, but they left a ton of runners on base. Couldn’t cash in their chances, Chris. They had plenty of chances. There’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively. They just did a poor job converting in those situations. You have to figure out what’s your plan going to be. Maybe watch some tape from the last game. Make the adjustment. So if you get those opportunities in this one, you’ve got a much better chance of scoring some runs. One down, base is empty. That one close. Rule the ball. Ball two. And a slider misses down and away. One out. Space is empty and he walked in. Perfect. You know, I think he’s okay with that outcome. It wasn’t an intentional walk, but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either. Here is Austin Riley. He was late there. Strike one. Riley is one of those players that made his presence known in the majors right away. He hit a 438 ft home run off a Michael Walk fast in his second at bat, which is probably the best way to make a first impression as a rookie. Boo swang and a ball lifted in the air. Scott coming on, pulls it in after a long run. Two down. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. And here’s the catcher, Drake Baldwin to the right side. Gorman. They take the force out. Third out. One left for Atlanta. Now the Cardinals will see what they can do. There’s no score. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back here at Bush Stadium. And on the mound in this one, Grant Holmes. Chris, he’s got the ability to take control of a game when he’s out there. Well, incredible mound presence and he’s going to attack hitters. You look at that strikeout per nine ratio over 10 coming into this start. So, he’s a pitcher that wants the ball. He’s aggressive. He knows that he can get the swing and miss, especially when he needs it most. We’ll see how effective he is in this one. The other way. Oh, he gloves it. Take a look at the lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Nolan Gorman. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field dives and he can’t hang on. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batting third, right, Alex Burlson. Next up for the Cardinals. He’s someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching. The lefties, however, give him a little bit more trouble. The one. There goes the runner. And that one ripped into right. Fair ball. win around third. He’ll score easily. Not in time. It’s a double. Back to back base hits. That’s a good sound coming off the bad man. And as he connected out front, lifted into the outfield. That’s one of those swings where you just don’t even feel the ball hit the barrel. That’s a pure stroke. One out, runner at second. And up to hit is Wilson Contrarus. Big swing and a miss. 0 and one and the righty deals. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Next offering is fouled back. Burlson. The runner at second with one away. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Ugly cut on the slider for strike three. Just a great slider right there. And I think the key for pitchers and what hitters don’t want to see is if a pitcher misses with that pitch that he misses off the edge of the strike zone rather than in the middle of the strike zone. And right there, excellent execution and it finished up in a perfect spot. Now Lars Newbar upstairs ball one. Counts one and0. That one fouled off. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. The one one is cut out and missed to the pitch upstairs. Two strike. Yeah, that’s outside. Got him looking. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. Cards on the board with this double. It’s an early one- nothing lead. Back here in St. Lewis and now the DH Json Pro Michael back to work right through there for a strike. As a pitcher, you don’t want to throw him get me over fast balls just for strikes. You really need to command your pitches to this guy at the plate. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside, Patrick Johnson behind the plate. Patty Johnson to Sunbug, but I’d ask permission first before I called him that. Does a pretty good job back there. Occasionally we’ll see a couple of sideways looks from players, but that kind of comes with the territory, right? I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And now two and two. Tapped softly on the ground. gets it to first and quickly one away in the second. Batting six, left fielder Marcel Ozuna. Here’s Marcel Ozuna. Hit hard on the ground to shore. Tosses across to first. Ozuna is out. Batting seventh, second baseman Azie Albz. Here is Azie Alb’s up to hit. Fast ball for a strike. Next pitch misses and one and one. One and one. There’s a strike. There’s a swing and a drive. This one could be trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second. He’s there. It’s a two out double. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So, no surprise he put a great swing on it. Here’s the center fielder, Michael Harris. I misses outside. Ball one. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. That’s in there. And it’s one and one. One strike. Hit in the air. Center field. Scott in position. And that’s the third out. So a two out double, but they don’t score. Now to the bottom of the second. It’s the Cardinals one and the Braves nothing. Back in St. Louis as the Cardinals come up to hit here in the last of the second. Here’s Nolan Aronado. And that one’s a little bit low. And it’s one and0. Next offering is fouled back now to short. Allen throws to first and a quick out number one. Good late bite on that slider. Got the hitter out in front. Rolled over on it. Exactly what he was supposed to do. Here’s Nolan Gorman. taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point, that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. That one not close. And it’s one and two. bows that off to the left and will do it again. Swing and a miss and he struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. No Boo, I’ll tell you when he goes to look at the video of that pitch, he’s going to want to punch himself. That slider had hit me written all over it and clearly he just got a little too excited and was out in front. Tell you what, when you get a pitch like that, you cannot miss it. Those have a chance to go a long way. No balls, two strikes. And a ground ball to first. He takes it himself to the bag. And that’ll do it. One, two, three go to Cardinals, but they still lead it one- nothing. On to the third inning. So now to the plate for Atlanta, Nick Allen. Allen measures 5′ 8 in, 26 years old, and they went out and made a trade for him last season. That one drifts inside. Back to back fast balls in. And that last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Ground ball left side, tosses to first. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Now batting right fielder Ronald Auna Jr. So the batting order turns over now in for the Braves. Ronald Akuna Jr. grounded out his first time up. Little dribbler up along third and a foul ball. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Puts it away for the out. And there’s two down. Bill, that was a pitch you got to crush. Unbelievable that he missed it right there. And I’m telling you, he is going to be frustrating with himself until his next at bat. Here’s Matt Olsen. Worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. Fast for a strike. This guy is just filling up the strike zone right now. Don’t want to get yourself in an 02 hole. You better be ready to pull the trigger on the first pitch. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Two out. Base is empty. That missed by a lot. It’s a ball in two strikes. Fights it off. He’ll see another two down on that misses the zone. Now two and two. Swang and a miss. Struck him out. And it’s a one, two, three inning for the Braves. Braves go down quickly here. They’re down one- nothing. And we’re back now. Here is Victor Scott. If there’s nobody on in front of him, you know, a single for him many times is a double. This guy is off to the races, ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base. Little bit high. And now two and 0. Two balls, no strikes. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man on base to start DNA. Back to the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup. Now up for St. Louis. Brendan Donovan. Donovan. moved first. Scott back in on a dive. Come on. Fouled off to the right. to first. Maybe a two ball. Slings to second onto Olsen. That’s two. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. And up next for St. Louis, Mason Win. swings through that one for strike one. Oh, and one outside low and a count even. One and one. One and one. Foul ball. He’s a little out front, but did a good job keeping the hands back long enough to foul that pitch off. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Redbirds down quietly, but they lead it one to nothing. Back here in St. Louis, here’s the third base, Austin Riley. Riley and that is downstairs. And that’s ball one. He’s been pitching well, but going through this middle of the order, second time through, we’ll see what kind of adjustments are being made. Next offering upstairs. Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball. Something in the zone because he does not want to allow the leadoff walk. There’s the strike. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Here’s the catcher, Drake Baldwin. He’s 0 for one. And that drops in for a strike. This one chopped on the ground, but foul with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. trying to stay out of the double play right here on the ground. Two ball. The throw to second is offline. Well, every double play turn starts with getting one. And even though these players work on these plays during batting practice over and over again, sometimes at game speed, you can still mess it up. Could have been two outs. Instead they get nothing. Here’s Pro Farard. Golden opportunity right here. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Two in scoring position. Nobody out. Top half of inning number four. Swinging a drive deep right field. That’s back there. Can’t get to it as it drops it into the corner. One runs in. A second scores as well. It’s 2-1. Well, he was a little off balance. He got the front foot down, but was so great at keeping the hands back and allowed him still to get good wood to this baseball. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. Here comes Ozuna up to the plate. outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. And the first pitch misses for ball one. You know, these Braves doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count. And they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. Swings through that one. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Next offering is in for a strike and he grounds one back up the middle. Gorman throws on the first. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. It’s early, but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. And that is out of play. And there’s a foul ball. That’s a ball in the dirt. Runner holds. Count goes to one and two. Struck him out without a swing. That was pretty nasty. Just locked him up right there for the second out. And that’s an at bat. he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while. Didn’t pull the trigger. Not how you want to go down in an RBI spot. So now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up. So two down now. And here is Michael Harris I fly to center his first time. That’s in there and it’s 0 and one. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Proar on third with two out inside. One and two to count. battling here as he fouls it away. Next pitch misses way outside. Just off the outside part of the play. Really good take especially with two strikes. Rudder at third, two away. Swing and a ball lifted left field. Nukebar makes the play and that is that. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double and it’s now a two-1 ball game. Back after this on the show. Bottom four. Now it’s the right fielder Alec Burlson. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. And that misses two balls, no strikes. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. Yeah, that’s fouled off. And that drops in for a strike. Two balls, two strikes. That just misses. Full count. Three and two. stays alive. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Line to left and Foul ball cut on and miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at like that one. Oh, when you commit to throwing an inside fast ball to your glove side across the strike zone, especially with two strikes, if you’re going to miss, you want to miss off the plate in. You do not want to leave it out over the heart of the plate. So that was excellent execution on that pitch. Really tied him up and he couldn’t get a piece at all. Here comes Wilson Contrarus. That’s off the mark. Two and0. Kelly looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. just missed. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. The Braves leading by a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth upstairs. And that is ball four. Four pitches. That’s an easy walk, man. He could have walked me right there, Boo. The last one wasn’t even close. leftielder and stepping in for the Cardinals, Lars Newbar struck out looking his first time. There’s a strike. Man at first, one away. And that one upstairs, ball one. Pretty standard high O2 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Missed inside with the curb. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at the swing and a miss. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. Boo gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. With all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So, very difficult to get the barrel on it. And now two and nothing. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. Next offering in there for a strike and a count two and one and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Wow. No fair right there. I mean that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch. Got him. And he’s up to seven strikeouts. The Cards leave one and they trail it here two to one. Ready now for the fifth inning. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Nick Allen. Michael back to work. That one’s in there. It’s 0 and one. That one back up the middle and it gets through and that turns the lineup over. So impressive that he didn’t get tied up or jammed on that pitch inside. Instead, good quick hands allowed him to get the barrel to it. Just shoot it up the middle of the field for that knock. So the lineup flips over. Ronald Akuna Jr. next up for the Braves. headed towards the corner and it hops over the wall for an automatic double. And boy, do they catch a break. Otherwise, you’re looking at runners around the bases and probably a run that scores. And now it’s Matt Olsen’s turn to hit. He is struck out and he is walked. Base hit. One run is in. Here’s the throw to the plate. Safe. And the runner from second scores on the play. Up by three. It’s four to one. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Miles Michael gives way and he had a tough time keeping them in the ball game today. We’ll get a new arm when we come back. Now pitching. New pitcher coming on. The veteran Sunny Gray just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Here’s Austin Riley. Strike on the inside corner. You know, these Braves really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Swings and misses at the sweeper. And the sweeper misses. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit, just not able to square it up. Ball two. Two balls, two strikes. Still two and two after the foul ball. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Caught him looking for the K. Now the Atlanta cleanup hitter Drake Baldwin. Both two in this one. Drake off the plate inside. One and0. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Jojo Romero the southpaw is throwing and getting that sinker dialed in. Palante a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Two balls, no strikes to count. Just missed. And ball four, two aboard. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass. Two on, one out. Now batting Juriken Proar a chance for more damage right here. Couple of RBI’s for him in his last AB. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Olsson on second. Baldwin at first. One gone and a pop off right side. Foul territory. Contraras brings it in. And there’s two away. Now batting left fielder Marcel Ozuna. Marcelo Zuna coming up to hit. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Fast ball is outside. That clips the corner. Here’s the pitch to Ozuna. That one is absolutely belted. That’s back there. Gone. a massive home run. His second home run of the series. It’s 7-1. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the booth. When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast ball. And here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish. That’s a little bit low. That’s outside. And that’s ball two. And that one a little bit high. Next offering is in for a strike. Right through there for a strike. I can’t fool. Struck him out. Looking, but not before five cross the plate with a big blow being this threerun homer. The lead has exploded to a half dozen. Back here at Bush Stadium, ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now up for St. Louis. Nolan Gorman. Gorman. Well, every pitcher wants run support and having a lead is nice, but it can be challenging for some pitchers. And I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse. Go after hitters and get quick outs. This one lifted in the air. Left field makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting numbers. And now the Cardinals catcher Yelpo 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Looked like it was a little bit up. Pitch misses. And that’s ball two. They can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. Just missed. Three balls, one strike in the air right side. Akuna after it has room and he makes the catch. Now batting center fielder Victor Scott II. Two down, base is empty. And now here’s a speed threat. Outfielder Victor Scott one for one with a single so far. First offering misses badly for ball one. Fast ball for a strike at 95. One ball. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. The next offering misses and the count’s even at two. That one lifted to left. Ozuna makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Nothing across here this half. We’re through five. It’s the Braves seven and the Cardinals won and welcome back to the ballpark. Start of the six, John Shami with Chris Singleton and leading off Michael Harris II. That’s a strike 0 and one. Move into the bullpen for the Cardinals. Jojo Romero, the left-hander, is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go. Palante getting cranked up as well. Now a check swing, but he held up. That’s big right there. being able to check your swing. Think about the count swing. Instead of 02, he’s sitting 1-1 against a really good arm. And that one clips the corner. Well, he went inside a couple of times and now outside. Hitter’s not exactly sure where to look for this next pitch. Hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit and the leadoff man aboard. Now batting shortstop Nick Allen. And next for Atlanta, Nick Allen. One for two in the air. Center field. Scott should have this one. And there’s one down. Now batting right fielder Ronald Akunia Jr. Back to the leadoff spot in the Braves lineup. Here’s Ronald Akuna Jr. at the plate. Akuna in his sixth season, 27 years old and he was born in Venezuela and that’s a base hit and that forces the runner to hold on at second. Two on with one away. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Nice line drive to the pull side. met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. First and second, one out. Yeah, the batter now, Matt Olsen. He has, as they like to say, let me guess, Bird, light tower power. That’s right. Harris, the lead runner at second. Akuna over at first with one away. That one to first Contraras and they tag him out. Now batting third baseman Austin Riley. Here is Austin Riley. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. Check swing called strike. 0 and one. Nope. One and one. Two outs, two in scoring position. Swings and misses. And it’s one and two. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. Two on, two outs on the ground. And that’s just foul. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Two outs, two in scoring position. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Inside just missed and it remains two and two. You got this. That one missed. That one 95 to finish him off. Two left for Atlanta and they’re on top of seven to one. back here in St. Louis. Now it’s the DH Brendan Donovan. That one down the line and it goes just foul. dismissed. Tied him up inside with that one. Big time gem right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. breaks through that one. It’s a strike out. Just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there. Not much to it. And I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location. Those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say, “How’d I miss that?” But you know, it happens. And first off is fouled off. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom of the sixth. swing a miss and it’s nothing and two. And it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. And it finds its way through for a hit. And they have their first hit since the third inning. Alec Burlson digs in now. Right fielder Alec Burlington in there at Denise and that is strike one. Swung on. That one’s back there and forget it. He shoots one out to right. His 12th of the season and they cut him to the lead. It’s 73. That’s swing just injected more drama into this one. That one was a hanger and pitchers typically don’t get away with making a mistake like that. And right there he made him pay. So one out, nobody on. Wilson Contreras now up to the plate. Fast for a strike. Still only one out here in the inning and it’s fouled away. One ball, two strikes. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. Up the middle, dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw. And they don’t get an out on the play. Back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. And you can feel this crowd waking up a bit here as the guys are starting to make some noise with their bats. Brian Snicker out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Grant Holmes is done and he leaves with the lead after giving them some decent innings. We’ll be back with a new pitcher in a moment. Now pitching Aaron Bummer takes over on the mound and they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. Now the left fielder Lars Nbar who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. First pitch just misses. Now this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Bomber deals. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. Next pitch is outside. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. And ball four, two aboard. Now back. First and second, one out. Here’s Nolan Aronado. Aronado. Swing. And this one’s bounced to the ground. Riley. There’s one. He’s out. Double play. What a twin killing day to end the inning. Two runs for St. Louis on this blast. It’s now a four-run lead at 73. You’re dialed into the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Andre Palante. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Drake Baldwin. Baldwin the lead off batter as he looks at ball one. Pulled hard but it’s a foul ball. Falling behind. Two and one. Out to short. Quinn zips it to first. Gets the catcher by a step. We talk about how the ball is coming out of the pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. Proar climbs in on that left side. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one. Well, he threw that fast ball right by him. Gives him a little bit of confidence. But in the back of your mind, you got to think, is he trying to set me up for later in this at bat? Here’s the O2. Good eye on that spot. Too close for me, partner, to take that O2 fastball, but for whatever reasons, he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Fights that one away. Still one and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Inside. Almost got him. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. One down, base is empty. Look out. And it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Now batting now in for the Braves. Marcelo Zuna certainly a factor in this one thanks to his threerun blast back in the fifth. Well, definitely one of the most impactful swings of the game. A big reason why they’re working with the lead and looking to add to it right here. Booth, that one’s upstairs. Ball one. One and one. Swings through that. Knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ball double play opportunity here. You’ve got to lay off pitches down in the zone right there. Swinging at that pitch. That’s a no no. And that’s downstairs and outside. Well, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike if he swings or not. The high heat too much on that one. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Albz stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. So, two balls and no strikes. Proar the runner at first with two gone. That one fouled off. Two and two. Down on strikes looking for the second straight plate appearance. So no runs, no hits, no errors, and one left off. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Braves seven and the Cardinals three. And we’re back. Here’s the second base, Nolan Gorman. The Cardinals in striking distance, but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. And first offering is fouled off. That’s a strike. Ground ball up the middle. Allen handles, throws to first, and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Now that number 63. And up next for St. Louis, Johel Poso. Check swing called strike. The Redbirds down by four here in the bottom of the seventh. Ball one there. clips the corner and the count one and two. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes now. Two away. Up next, two out. Base is empty. Victor Scott. Next up for the Cardinals is singled and he has fly to left. And that’s downstairs. And that is ball one. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Two outs. And he can’t come up with it. Save at first. No play. We’ll see how they score this late in the game with the offense trying to play catchup. They’re looking for any momentum they can get, any kind of opportunity to get back in this game, and an error can certainly do that. Let’s see if that turns into something right here. Here’s the Cardinal DH. Brendan Donovan for three in this one. Swing and a miss. That’s the sweeper. If he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. That’s a ball. Went with the sweeper and he hits a ground ball right side. Can’t club it cleanly, but they get the out at first and that’ll do it for the inning. Starting to run out of outs as they’re unable to chip away. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Braves 7 and the Cardinals three. Back here in St. Louis and the batter now, Michael Harris. Harris. Palante back to work. Up and in. Ball one. Harris checks his swing. Appeal to third. No swing. Gary Simmons with the call. Out of line out towards center. Dives, but it falls. And now it looks like extra bases around second now as they still don’t have it. And he’s into third base with a leadoff triple. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Other than ripping one into the gap or blasting one over the wall, there aren’t a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice line drive into center field. So, that definitely felt good. Runner at third. Nobody out. Allen the next to hit. And that one fouled off. Oh, one down. And that traps in for a strike. Harris at third with nobody out. Foul ball still 0 and two. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Swing and a miss struck him out and K is his third of the game. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the home field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Here’s Akuna now. Not your prototypical leadoff guy. Gets on base. Yes, but also some power. swing and a miss as he was late that time. A lot of times you’ll see a pitcher maybe double up on a pitch. This guy will throw it three times, four times in a row because hitters just can’t lay off of it. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Frustrating end to the bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Olson in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. He swings and fouls one off. Two outs and a runner at third. And we’re in the top of the eighth. That one ran inside. Almost got him. Here’s the pitch to Olsen. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Two outs and one in scoring position. The next pitch misses the countdown. Two and two. Two two the count. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Quite the matchup we’re seeing here. Six foul balls in this at bat alone. Really making them work out there. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Braves strand one, but they lead it by four. It’s 73. Now pitching back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Pierce Johnson. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Mason Winel the shorts stop. Mason win. And there’s the strike. The shorts stop takes a ball. I got one ball, one strike. Yeah, that’s too high. One strike. Next offering in there for a strike. Two and two now. In there got him looking and that one split the plate. I can’t argue with that one. And clearly he was looking for something else. Anything but the breaking ball. It’s a great pitch to hit right there if you’re looking for it and kind of a gift at a two- strike count. But sometimes you just get fooled and you got to tip your cap. One more time. Late swing. Fouled to the left. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. That’s outside. The Braves bullpen has some activity. Austin Cox getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Do Santos getting loose as well. One down, base is empty. So a foul ball makes it one and two and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Well, he missed a hitable offspe pitch right there. Not sure exactly what the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball, you’re expecting it to make its move at the end, it never does, and you’re tied up. Two balls, two strikes. That misses the zone and it’s a full count. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball, but missed the spot. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that well. Here’s Contrarus. Now, these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Swinging a miss. One ball, one strike. I got a ball, one strike. Comes up empty. That’s strike. Two. One ball, two strikes. Goes down looking. Oh, that curve ball had some pretty good break to it. As you can see, the hitter just locked up a little bit. thought it was a great pitch to hit, but sometimes you’re looking for something else and you can’t pull the trigger. Nuke Bar stands in here, tried to hold back his swing there, but went around. popped foul out of play off to the right. Burlson off of first with two away. Waves at the bender for the strike out. So one left for the Cardinals. Deficit remains at four. It’s 73. Now pitching. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Jojo Romero. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Here’s Austin Riley, a former first round pick, and he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. Outside low. And that’s ball one. Romero in his fifth season, 28 years old, and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2016. Swang in a bouncer out to short win over to first and they get the lead off man in the ninth. Drake Baldwin next up for the Braves. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Action in the St. Louis bullpen number 49, the rookie right-hander is getting loose. King also getting ready. That one blasted deep to right. Burlson ranging back towards the wall. Makes the catch up against the wall. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Two down, base is empty. Next to hit, Jurgson Proar Pro gets a piece there. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. Highf fly ball right field. Burlson makes the grab and that’s the inning. So they go quietly there. 678 scheduled to start the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Braves seven and the Cardinals three. Now pitching back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Anel de los Santos. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Here’s Nolan Aronado for three with two ground outs and a strike out. Nolan Aronado. The wind and the pitch. Check swing called strike. That’s down and in. A slider missed. One and one. misses off the plate and it’s two and one. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. Knocks that one away. and we’ll do it again. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Ground ball right side. A dive. Nice stop to his knee. The throw and very nicely done for the out. Oh, you can see right there he looks very comfortable going to the backhand. Nice diving stop. Gets up to complete the play. That’ll fire the team up for sure. Nolan Gorman will hit next. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. And there’s a ball. The Braves leading by four. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. And that one is inside. Boo. He never moved because he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Swings through that one for strike two. And he really sells the change up with that arm action. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Well struck right field. That one’s back. He won’t get there. That should be extra bases. And into second with one away. That’s a double. He was all over that one. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it. Otherwise, it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time. Here in the bottom of the ninth, one out. Joho getting ready to hit. Taps softly to the right side. Olsen. And they’re down to their last out. Now batting center fielder Victor Scott the second. So up next Victor Scott one for three. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Two outs with a runner at third. Hit to second and this should do it. And that’ll do it. Sometimes it takes just getting away from home. players can sort of come together, connect a little bit more than they do when they’re at home with their families, and that can breed to success on the field as we saw in this game today. Excellent win by this team. 73 is how this one ends for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shambi saying so long.
