Tank Talk: Michael Misa
Michael, welcome to San Jose. Uh, I actually got the chance to watch you walk into the building this morning. There must have been a little bit of like first day of school feelings, a little bit of butterflies. It’s the start of kind of a new chapter for you. Yeah. Um, yeah, you described it right. A little, you know, butterflies in the stomach, a little nervous, excited, but um, yeah, it’s been it’s been great so far. What’s been the reaction after being drafted second overall? A lot of phone calls. Your family was there. That was awesome. I saw Mac gave you a phone call. What what were the moments and and few days like after being drafted? Um it was great. Um you know I got to spend some time with my family after the draft. Um you know some of the players on the team reached out like you said Mac gave me a FaceTime call and um yeah over overall it was great. Not only being drafted but maybe what you’re hoping to accomplish in the next season wherever it’s at. This might be one of the biggest most pivotal summers of your life. How how are you handling like time management and attention you’re paying to this, but also like trying to recuperate between seasons? Yeah. Um, you know, I think like you said, it’s going to be a big summer for me. And I think the biggest thing is just focusing on myself. Um, you know, doing what I need to do on and off the ice. Um, worrying about my nutrition, getting stronger, um, just things like that. So when I come back for for main camp, I’m going to be ready. It’s amazing how there’s like tandemss of teammates here between Sagena or London and Sam and Casper over there. It’s kind of nice that there are some people coming here like yourself that have friends that know other people. Um there’s not a lot of complete strangers here because some of this is bonding too, right? This dev camp. Absolutely. Yeah. You get to, you know, know everybody and um make make new connections, friendships with with guys you have never met before. And um yeah, that’s what it’s all about. It’s good. When you took the head shot or you know, you had the jersey on from the draft, but when you’re like literally now here in San Jose, does it feel different? Does it feel more real? Is it something that’s actually tangible? Yeah, it’s getting there. Definitely feels um you know, a lot more real. Like this is going to be like the next chapter of my life. Um but I got nothing bad to say about San Jose. We’re staying in a great spot. I forgot what it’s called again. Santana. Santana. Yeah, we could You’re gone. By the time we show this, you you’re probably gone, so they won’t come to find you. Santana. Yeah, that that place is pretty cool. So, um yeah, it’s it’s been good so far. Okay, so we did some serious questions. Now, can we do some fun questions? Love it. Let’s do it. All right, here we go. I got a list of them here. Let me try and find a good one for you here. All right. Biggest goal you’ve ever scored or have been a part of? Um, probably in the Memorial Cup in my second year. Um, it was a three-3 game with Moose Jaw in the it was round robin, but we needed to win to like advance and I got the the primary assist on the game-winning goal. It was a nice nice play. Got to feel good. Is somebody born in the year 1981? Would that make them old? I think like not old like getting there a little bit. I’d say like old is like 1970 1965 pushing pushing there. But I was born in 81. Yeah. No, you look you look great. I don’t I don’t think Yeah, the grays are coming in so fast. Got to say that to a young guy now. Uh let me see another one here. Um best way to handle dinner with the boys when the check comes. Um, try to split it equally. I think that’s probably the most fair. Yeah. Right. Uh, two more here. Have you ever had a chirp so good you used it twice? You used it again? Um, not really to be honest. I’m like I know some guys in my team are big. I I don’t I’m not really a big chirper so I I don’t More just like smile. Like when people try and chirp me I just like to laugh and smile. Yeah. Pretend like you didn’t even hear it. What? I couldn’t even hear you. Last one. Uh, do you have a favorite person in hockey media? Like you’re a player. I don’t know if you pay attention to everything everybody says, but are there people in hockey media that you like? Well, yeah. I think Biz is hilarious. Paul Biz wit like that that whole that whole spinning chicklets cruise. Uh, funny. I like Kevin Bietza. I think he’s pretty cool. He’s great. Um, yeah. All right. No, I I agree with you on all those. I’ll hope to make that list someday. I got to earn I got to earn my spot on that list. I’ve done this twice, you know. You’ve been great. So, I the feelings are mutual. Can’t wait to see more of you. Michael, thanks for being here. Welcome to San Jose. Thanks, bro.

This kid has a bright future with the Sharks 🦈😎.
Love how Brodie is always able to get past those media walls hockey players put up in interviews to let their personalities shine. Great work as always, looking forward to getting to know our new additions a little better!
Hey Brodie and Michael,
Welcome to San Jose Michael. There is a part of this rebuilding that reminds me of choosing sides when I was a kid to play whatever sport or activity. "I want Schaefer. Okay, then we got Misa!" hahaha Each year as Mike Grier and his team have worked diligently to chart a path and which players will suit us best I have the sensation that there is the beginnings of synergy growing with all these dynamic young players being added to the Sharks organization and clearly Michael you are a big addition to the franchise.
I am excited to see what this next chapter holds in store for you and I wish you and your family all the best man. Go get 'em!

So excited for this kid’s future and to see him added to the Sharks’ young core. But, judging from this interview, someone needs to get Michael a sandwich. Guys in the NHL hit hard!
