MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 11, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
live from Gene Autry Way. Welcome to Angel Stadium, Inner League Baseball on MLB The Show. It’s the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch coming your way next. just about ready to roll here and getting the start for the Angels, Kyle Hendris. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. This is Corbin Carroll. And that misses and we’re off and running from Anaheim. [Music] Late swing fouled to the left and it is two and one. Two balls, one strike and downstairs. Hard ground ball base knock. So, a man on base to start the inning. Well, patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count. Everyone’s trying to elevate the ball in today’s game, but if you can hit a ball that hard on the ground, it’s going to find some holes. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Run around to go. Strike in there. Throw to second and great jump. [Music] And here comes just miss. If you’re going to miss, you want to miss outside the zone. When you miss inside the zone, it’s trouble. Very that one. And now three and one. Runner at second. Nobody out. And now it’s filled up. Count. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And he chases that one in the dirt. Darno on to first in time to get him. One away in the strikeout. Well, it’s good job of completing the strikeout at first base, but the one downside is it did allow that runner from second to move up to third, and that’s with one out. They’ve got more ways now to get him home, and that makes it another strikeout situation coming up. And now, Peraldo Peromo, that one finds the zone. And that’s strike one. A short stop. Takes a ball. That’s the ball. Squirts away a little bit. Runner holds. Count goes to two and one. [Music] And that one a little below the knees. Three and one now. That one hit the knees for a strike. Carol takes his lead at third with one away. [Applause] 3-2 up the middle. Ranifo fires to first on the run on the money. Nice play. Well, I’m impressed with this guy’s internal clock. He knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure his grip on the baseball, and make a strong, accurate throw. Auheno Suarez now at the plate outside with a breaking ball. Hri steals and another ball. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. Two. Swinging a foul out of play. Next offering is in for a strike just off the outside part of the plate. Really good take especially with two strikes. Chopped to the left side. Neto throws the first in time and the inning is over. So it’s one run, one hit, no errors and no one left. Bottom half of inning number one coming up. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Angels coming up. Back here with my pal Singi. And on the hill the big righty Brandon F. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So, when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. And that one hit to first and he handles it himself for the out. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. Not a team that usually sees a lot of pitches or works a ton of walks, Chris. They take a more aggressive approach than some of the other teams in the league. They definitely have a few free swingers in this lineup. Hitters who want to be on the attack, and that’s great as long as you got pitches in the zone. But if the pitcher is able to expand the zone, can be very difficult for an offense like this to get going. You’ve got to somehow draw some walks, put some runners on base so that when you do have those free swingers come up, you can cash in with some runs that are plated. That one a little bit high and one and one. One and one. upstairs. Two in one. One out. Base is empty. Fouls one off. Two and two. Fast ball is outside. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Good job to fight that one off. Three and two. The pitch is outside and ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Here’s Trout. He has, as they like to say, let me guess, boo. Light tower power. That’s right. Tap foul at the plate. Trout is one of the best players of his generation. He’s a fan favorite because he brings a rare combination of speed, power, and allaround talent to the team. He’s exactly the type of player you want to build around. In the air out towards left center, Guriel sizing this one up. And there’s two away. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. first pitch and he just misses. One that one in there across the letters. One ball, one strike. The 1-1 is fouled off and now two and two and that one is inside. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score him. Lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck. Guriel handles the chance. And that is that. Angels leave one. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. And we’re back. Top of the second. Here’s the left fielder, Lordis Guriel Jr. Guriel measures 6′ 4 in, hitting fifth in today’s lineup. And he was born in Cuba. Just missed. Swaying at a ball popped in the air and it stays fair. Jake McCarthy getting ready to hit. pitch misses inside and it’s one and0 and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Our umpire for this one, Freddy Ferguson, a consistent umpire by all accounts. Yeah, I think the book on him is that he’s not necessarily by the book with his strike zone, but once you figure out where he’s calling strikes, you can pretty much count on him to stay with that throughout the game. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. first. Tristan English stands in now for the Diamondbacks trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. And that drops in for a strike. 0 and one. Guriel the lead runner at second. McCarthy at first with no outs. Swinging a ground ball and it goes just foul. One and two in the dirt but kept close. Grab ball to first. Could be two. Goes to second for one. Plenty of time in first. That’s a double play. For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play, and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. Here is James McCann. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Two outs. Pitches in for a strike. [Music] That’s down and in. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. That misses. Now two and two. Two outs and a runner at third here in the top of the second. That one to first and that’s fouled. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was on the ground to the left and foul ball. Hendrickx delivers and that one off the outside edge. Alec Thomas waiting to hit for the Dbacks and here’s a 3-2 and ball four to a Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk. Very gritty. Next up in the Diamondbacks, Alec Thomas. down the middle for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Corners are occupied with two down. misses. One to the count. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. Tapped softly on the ground. Rangifo handles, throws the first, and that’ll do it. No runs on two hits, no errors, and two men left stranded. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Diamondbacks one and the Angels nothing. Bottom of the second, here’s Joe Adele. Chris, he’s definitely going to finish the year with a new careerhigh in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. thought back to work. That’s a ball. Went with the sweeper right through there for a strike. Pitch misses there and it’s two and one. Swing and a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Guriel handles the chance. [Music] Here is Monata. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. Smoked on the ground a second. Marte throws to first in time and they get the out. Jorge Zolair up at the plate. Up and in. Ball one. swings through that one for strike one. One ball. Two out. Base is empty. tapped softly to the right side and that’s a fair ball around first and hustling for second. The throw in and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. We’ve played two innings. It’s one to nothing. Top half of the third inning. Here’s the Diamondbacks leadoff hitter, Corbin Carroll and ball one. You know, these Dbacks showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. And that one almost hit him. 2-1. That one fouled off. Two and two. though Chris through the early stages he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpen. Well, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. They tried to check the swing, just couldn’t do it. Here’s Catel Marte 0 for one so far. Swing and a highf fly ball deep left field. Ward going back onto the track and he makes the catch. Two outs. Base is empty. And now the short stop. Peraldo Peromo picked up an RBI in his last at bat. Still their only run of the game so far. Hot shot to third. Slings it across. And that will end the inning. Nothing doing for Arizona, but they hold a one- nothing lead. And welcome back to the ballpark. Set for the bottom of the third. Travis Darno digs in. And that one is lifted in the air. Thomas sizing it up. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly. Luis Reanifo the next to hit for the Angels and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Well, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently. [Music] bounce to the right and that’s a foul ball. He’s dealing with a great two- strike hitter right here. The strikeout is not automatic. And that’s through the swing. It’s a strikeout. So the batting order turns over. Now it’s the shortstop. Zack Neto grounded out his first time. And there’s a foul ball. And that’s in there for a strike. And quickly nothing at two. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. Swing and a miss as he chases that one. Darting out of the zone. tosses to first. Misplay doesn’t cost him. Inning over. Nothing doing for the offense that time. On to inning number four. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Angels nothing. Back here at Angel Stadium. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, AU Suarez. splits the plate. Strike one. Late that time. It’s strike two. No balls. Two strikes. Pitch misses. It’s a ball in two strikes. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Fouls it off. Still one and two. got him swinging way out in front of that inside pitch there. And just exactly the opposite kind of approach that you want with two strikes. You want to let the ball travel. Make sure you recognize it. Try to shorten up so that you can at least put the ball in play. Clearly fooled, but I think even more so you question the two strike approach. One down, base is empty. Hammer down the line. Could be extra bases. Now he turns and heads for second. In safely, it’s a double and his second hit. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night. And just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. One out, runner at second. And next is the Diamondbacks DH. Jake McCarthy one for one with a single so far. On the ground to third, the throw to first. Play is made. Two out. First baseman Tristan English. And here’s the first baseman, Tristan English. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat, getting that first hit at the big league level. [Music] That’s in there. That’s strike one. Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Pitches in the dirt and the count even one and one. Next offering is fouled back. This guy’s seen two change ups in a row. Could be a little vulnerable for a fast ball right here. And that’s down and away. Guriel on it second with two down. Can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. So, one hit is all they get. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Diamondbacks one and the Angels nothing. back in Anaheim now. The number two hitter Nolan Showell. [Music] [Applause] There’s the strike. Bell’s been incredibly efficient in this one. first pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average and that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Lead off hitter retired in the four. Talk about being able to dial up the velocity. That first base over there might need a little pad inside that first baseman’s mid. Here’s Mike Trap fly to left his first time. Right down to shoot. Going one. number 27 ready or not in the game now after the injury ready to make his season debut. you line drive base hill. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Next to hit, Taylor Ward on the ground right side. And it’s just fouled. That was close. man at first. One away. Breaking ball misses down and away. On the ground right side. Four, six, three. Double play and the inning is over. Pitcher made the pitch and his players made the play behind him. Nice job. 463 inning ending double play. All set for the start of the inning. And here’s the catcher, James McCann. Hris back to work. And McCann fouls it off. And that one is popped in the air. Shallow center and out number one on the grab. And now the center fielder Alec Thomas rolled out to second in his first at bat. the other way and a base hit and now the lineup turns over with one away. So back to the top of the Arizona lineup and now the right fielder Corbin Carroll singled back in the first and scored their only run. He’s one for two and that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Swing and a miss. That one in the dirt. Sometimes being lucky is a swing and miss. If he makes contact with that pitch, probably hits into a double play. Here’s the O2 runner on the move in there for strike three. Safe at second and he easily steals the bag. Catel Marte up to the plate. That one misses. One and0 movement in the bullpen. Jack Kachanowitz appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Soraniano, a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. man at second. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. That one missed. Thomas stands at second with two gone. Ground ball right side. Ringifo. Third out. One left for Arizona. They lead it one- nothing. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth leading off Joe Adele. First pitch just misses. Well, I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. swing and a miss as he was out front. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Jake Woodford up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello. Beaks the lefty warming up as well. Swinging a highf fly ball to left. Guriel handles the chance. Now, here is Yoan Mona possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. And that drops in for a strike. Man, 91 on the slider right there. That’s a hard one. That’s a low-end fast ball for some pitchers. [Music] That one ran inside. Almost got him. [Music] This to center field and it falls. So, a man aboard now with one away. But I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Jorge Solair the next to hit. Runs cut on and miss. McCann fires out caught stealing. Two down. Doan right through there for a strike. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. You’re up there at the plate. You got to look up in the zone and spin on anything that’s down. Ball one there. Two strikes. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Inside. Almost got him. [Music] Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Swing and a miss. Curveball in the dirt. Got him. Inning over on the strike out. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We’re through five. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Angels nothing. Jack Kachanowitz on a pitch out of the pen here. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Well, one-run game and the batter will be the shorts stop. Peraldo Purdomo. And that’s in for a strike. Activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Carson Fulmer appears to be getting loose. Brogden also throwing. Here comes the O1. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. the short stop. Takes a ball. One and two. Swing to a miss. Struck him out. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Suarez lays off down low as he digs in for the third time. Down the inside corner for a strike. One and one. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. this to third and that goes fouled and a ball and two strikes and a base hit into right center field. These guys today are so great with handling velocity. They’re seeing high speeds day after day and a nice job of turning that one around. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. having a lot more success on the road this season. Come on, Angel. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Back-to-back singles challenged him with the fast ball right in the heart of the zone and he was clearly ready to jump all over it. Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks. One for two. Swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field. Adele pulls it in on the run. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. And now the first baseman Tristan English outside and that is ball. No strikes. First and second, two down. Missed inside with the curb. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. That’s a little bit low. James McCann on deck for Arizona. Two on, two outs. Hard hit right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. A couple of hits in the inning, but they can’t get him home. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the six. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the Angels nothing. Back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Jake Woodford. He’s got a wicked breaking ball in his arsenal and it’s definitely one of his go-to pitches when he needs an out. that one close rule the ball. Ball one. The Diamondbacks with some movement in the pen. Kevin Ginkle up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello. DFani also getting ready. Ripped to short. Peromo on to first. One away. Bottom of the six. Battifo. [Music] Now it’s the second baseman Luis Rangifo. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. That one ripped and an automatic double as it hops the fence. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. Zack Neto the next to hit for the Angels to the left side but it is well fouled with the tying run at second here in the bottom of the six. That’s good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Tosses across the first and they got him. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Jaylen Beaks on the pitch here. Pretty big spot he’s coming into trying to strand that runner at second base. So, he’s going to need to make some quality pitches. He does have first open if he needs to use it. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Digging in, Nolan Showell. He’s 0 for one. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Just outside. in the dirt. Runner holds. Count goes to one and two. The one two. That one is upstairs. Full count in the dirt. Well done behind the dish. Mike Trout, the kind of bat that can make a big impact if they can keep it going here. Two outs and one in scoring position. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another man on second. Two down. Lie drive fires across the diamond. Inning over. Angels strand one. They still trail one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the seventh. Now here is James McCann. That clips a corner and it’s even up one out to short rolls across the diamond. That’s the first out in the top of the seventh. Good armside run and sink on that pitch right there. Got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out. Alec Thomas stands in now for the Diamondbacks. That one down the line. And that’s just foul. One down. Base is empty. Fouled off left side. That one back up the middle and it gets through and that turns the lineup over. [Music] Good two strike hitting right there, Boog. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. Just kept it simple. Played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. Man at first with one gone. Corbin Carroll will hit next. One for three. Swinging a miss and it’s 0 and one. Two balls. One strike. Thomas leads off first with one away. Pickoff throw. Hey, he beat it out. And now the count is even. Just off the outside edge. Just missed. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. And ball four to a board. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast ball. First and second, one out. Next to hit, Catel Marte 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Ball one low. Way to lay off that pitch down. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. Six straight outside the strike zone. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. and pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play. But in this count, he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches, and get back into this at bat. There’s a strike. Two balls, one strike. Two low and it’s ball three. A healthy cut, tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. Three and two now. Pled out on strikes and a big sigh of relief from the mound with that cold third strike. You got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position in two strikes. Just put the ball in play somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. Stepping in is the switch hitting shortstop. Peraldo Perdomo. Fast for a strike. Two outs. Swung on. Belted way back there. It’s got a chance. dives, but it falls. And now it looks like extra bases. The run scores all the way from first and they take a threerun lead. Oh, that’s a big at bat coming through in the clutch to drive in a pair. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it. manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Jack Kachanowitz won’t go any further. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Carson Fulmer gets the call from the pen and he comes on here for the first time this season and I’m sure there’s some nerves involved in that. So, we’ll see how he settles in. Auheno Suarez stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Swanging a miss. There’s the change up. It’s 0 and one. Swings and chases a low one there. Runner at second. Two down here in the top half of inning number seven. Fights it off. He’ll see another one, two in the dirt. Got him looking. That is the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s now 3 nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Kevin Ginkle. Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit perenning pitch so far this season. And now the DH Mike Trout. The Halos in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laidoff man. Need a good at bat out of him right here. Swinging a foul straight back. You know these Angels as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for him to make contact at times and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group. [Music] That one outside and it’s one and two. And on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had them eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game. Two two ball. You got a full count. Here’s a swing and a line drive. And that’s a base hit into right field. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Pitch was in and off the plate. So hard to do anything with a pitch in that location, but somehow he got the barrel to it and hit it well. Pretty amazing. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. 0 for two in this one. Trout on the move. Pitch in for a strike. M fire. Save. Stolen base. That was close, but Stackcast shows us why he so often seems to be on the safe side of these steel attempts. Chris, yeah, you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag. Such a threat on the bases. If you’re going to get something going, this is the time to do it. You get the leadoff man on. Everybody’s got to look over the shoulder and say, “I’m just going to keep the line moving.” Don’t try to do too much. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Thomas under it. He makes the grab. Grounder tags at second and the throws offline. Safe at third. Adel. Here’s the center fielder Joe Adele. Fly ball to the outfield for a sack fly. Soft ground ball to the right side. Find a hole. He can attack this a few ways, but the one thing he can’t do is strike out. Lifted in the air right center field. Carol sizes this one up. Brings it in. Runner tagging from third. He scores on the sack fly. And now just a two-run deficit. In that situation, you’re looking to get something up in the zone that you can put in the air. Worst case scenario, a sacrifice fly to drive in that runner from third. Yan Mona with a chance to hit. That one finds the corner. That’s strike one. He didn’t want to give up that run, but he did. Got the fly ball. Sack fly out. Now it’s time to attack these other guys. Get your team back in the dugout. That’s in there. And that is strike two. Oh, and two. Swag and a miss. The velocity blasted it right past him. So they get one run, one hit, no errors, and no one left on. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Diamondbacks three and the Angels won. Back here at Angel Stadium, we go to the eighth and it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. on the ground and foul ball. Fulmer in his fourth year. He features a change up, a sinker, a fourseamer, a slider, and he occasionally uses a curve. The next pitch misses. Now two balls in a strike. Just missed. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Griel gets a piece. 3-2 now. Gloves it on the dive. Fires the first and they get the out. Bas have to be so quick with their first step reactions. Hot shots like that. That’s why they call it the hot corner. That’s a perfect example though. There’s no way he gloves that one if he’s not dialed in anticipating something coming his way. Stand on his toes every pitch. really nice job to get back up, set himself, and make a strong throw across the diamond. Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks. And there’s the strike. 0 and one. [Music] [Applause] Just missed. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the eighth. The one-1 is fouled off. That’s a ball. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Ward in position and there’s two away. Two down, base is empty. Next to hit for Arizona, Tristan English 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. That one fouled hard the other way. [Music] Two down on and miss. D struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Diamondbacks down quickly as the lead remains 3-1. So they bring on the veteran Anthony Dclafani. He’s pitching on two days rest. Anthony Dani. Now it’s the right fielder Jorge Solair. Jorge. First pitch misses. Activity in the Arizona bullpen. Haime Ringone, the closer of the staff, is getting loose to finish this one off. [Music] Pitch misses. Ball two. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Check swing called strike. It’s been tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. Go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. That’s outside. Ball three. And a foul ball. battling here as he fouls it away. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Went back to the sinker and it was successful. Here comes Travis Darno. [Music] outside. The guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. And that is in for a strike and a count one and one. swag and a miss. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. Just off the outside corner. Two balls, two strikes. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. He circles the bases. That’s his third home run of the series. It’s 32. He just sent a jolt of electricity into this stadium with that swing. A breaking ball on the inside part of the play requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics. If you fly open with the fresh, there’s no way you keep that ball there. An outstanding job mechanically, he deserves that home run. Luis Rangifo the next to hit for the Angels outside low and that’s ball one. Wow. looking to get the tying run on base and fouled off. [Music] And a count one and two. One down, base is empty. swings through it and that’s a strike out. Bel, I’ll tell you when he goes to look at the video of that pitch, he’s going to want to punch himself. That slider had hit me written all over it and clearly he just got a little too excited. It was out in front. Tell you what, when you get a pitch like that, you cannot miss it. Those have a chance to go a long way. And now the shorts stop. Zack Neto hit in the air left field. Guriel drops into the glove and the inning is over. But the Angels do get one back via the solo homer. It’s now a 32 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Brock Burke. And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits period. Now the catcher up to hit. James McCann splits the plate. One. Looks like he sacrificed to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing. Some good hitters will do that. Action in the Angels bullpen. Conor Brogden up and throwing. Soraniano getting cranked up as well. The one-1 is fouled off. fights that one away. Still one and two. He goes down looking. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Thomas stands in now and watches strike one. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. High in the air out to right. Solair gets under it. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Two out. Space is empty. And the batter now, Corbin Carroll. Not looking like they’ll be adding any insurance runs heading into the bottom of the ninth. So, it’s going to be on the bullpen to hold this lead. And a ball to the right fielder. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high. And now two and one-run game here in the top of the ninth. And that’s off the outside edge. And the count is three and one. Catel Marte waiting to hit for the Dbacks. Fast ball in for a strike. Three and two now. Oh no. And that’s ripped into left. Base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. That is Here’s the second base. Catel Marte. One ball. It’s a pitch out. Nothing doing. And that’s ball one. Step off. Throw to first. Throws it away. Rudder takes off. Pitch is high. And that’s a stolen base. Not even close. He gets the intentional walk here. And now a force at any base with two gone. clearly didn’t want to mess with him right there. So, I think it makes sense to play the numbers game in this spot. First and second, two outs. Purdomo now at the plate. A chance for more damage right here. Couple of RBI’s for him in his last AB. Yeah, the first offering is not close. Well, he’s already in some trouble and falling behind in the count makes it even worse. Then you’ve got to throw the ball over more of the plate and that’s where they can really do damage against a guy like this. Solair sizing this one up. He’s got it and that is that. So it’s no runs on a hit, no errors and two are left. 234 set to hit in the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Diamondbacks three and the Angels two. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Haime Ringone. A chance at his first save of the year. So in now for the Angels, Nolan Shanuel. [Music] And that one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] And that is out of play. One-run game. Bottom nine. Ground ball left side. Sends it across to first. And the leadoff man retired here in the ninth. That’s why you hug the lines on the corners late in the ball game like this. Positioned perfectly. Now it’s going to be Mike Trout. Swinging a foul out of play. A oneun lead there. The home team trying to pull it out. That misses the zone at a count one and two. Swing and a miss. Stuck him out. Angels with only one out left. Typically that high fast ball if it’s close to the top of the strike zone a hitter if he’s prepared for it can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to. And that’s why you see the swing and miss. And now here is Taylor Ward. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Trying to close out a one-run lead. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. He’s got it. Ball game. And the Diamondbacks hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. Nice work out of the bullpin for that first MLB win. They turned to him when they didn’t have the lead. He kept things steady and he’s rewarded with the W.
