first pitch moments away and on the mound now number 63. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club and coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Xavier Edwards, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Upstairs. [Music] missed with a change up. They’re now three and one. That one the other way. Cowser makes the grab. One down. And time now for the Marlins lineup. This team, Chris, not one that gets a lot of production from hitting homers. So, they’ve got to find offense in other ways. Yeah, Boo. Hit sequencing is so important for this team. You know, getting that walk at the right time, coming up with that next knock or extra base hit so that you can actually play to run. If not, then you see the record go in the direct opposite direction of where it could go. So, you know, a team like this, the good thing they’re going to battle. They’re going to put the ball in play and hope that they can find those holes. Kicks and fires. Swang a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. the 02 and a foul ball. He stays alive. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. One out. Base is empty. Pitch misses. Two and two. Well, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here, too, too. He’s already seen the curve ball a couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. Swing and a miss. Curve ball in the dirt. Gets to it onto first. Gets the out. Two down after the strike out. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Two out. Space is empty. Stepping in, Otto Lopez. Breaking ball misses. Down and away. Two out. Space is empty. swing and a line drive and that one’s a base hit out of left center field and that keeps the inning going. [Music] Here’s the catcher to hit Augustine Ramirez. That one almost got him. There goes the runner. Pitch outside. Throw to second and he’s safe. I think that steel kind of sets the tone not just for this game but for the entire series. First inning, game one. So that kind of tells me they’re going to be aggressive on offense and try to force the issue whenever they can. Two outs and one in scoring position. And another ball. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. Kyle Sters next to hit for the Marlins. So now two on and two outs. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. First and second, two outs. Next is the designated hitter, Kyle Sters. And that one clips the corner. Orio way out for strike two. Man, I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now. I mean, these are tough spots where pitchers really got to bear down. Those last two pitches were well executed. Ball one low. Definitely a swing and miss slider down and in. He finished that really well. Just couldn’t get him to offer at it. Two on, two outs. That’s inside. That’s a ball. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Well, they’re really running up the pitch count in this first inning. Lots of confidence from this team that is perhaps the hottest in baseball right now. Two outs. Swing and a miss for the strike out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. So, it’s no runs on a hit, no errors, and two are left. And now the O’s will get their first crack at it. No score. back here in Baltimore. Starting on the mound in this one, Yuri Perez. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Jackson Holiday leading things off and takes a strike. And that’s downstairs and outside. Ball. That’s in. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Two-1 pitch is in there and the count is even. Two and two. There’s a swing and a try way back there. And that’s a foul ball. [Music] 2-2 now. missed inside with the curb. Count. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Jordan Westbird the next to hit for the Orioles. Outside and that is ball one. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. This is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard. right at him if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play. Check on the runner and he dives back in safely. Runner at first with no outs here. That’s a ball. hammered base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out, Simmyi. That was a laser shot. And a good thing we have Stackcast to give us the details. Yeah, get out of the way on that one. That ball flew out of the box at 112 mph. You talk about generating a ton of power in that swing. He did it with quick hands, good lower half, and just unloaded on that ball. Next to hit, Gunnar Henderson outside low. And that’s ball one. swings through that instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended. Tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in on the ground to short. Could be two. Lopez over to second. Over to first, but it’s offline. Well, they had the chance of turning two right there, but I don’t think he got a good grip on the ball as he tried to transfer from glove to throwing hand. They say you can’t assume a double play. I beg to differ at the big league level, but it’s going to be ruled as a fieldielder’s choice. Ryan O’Harn comes up to hit and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. SP swang and a miss. There’s that change up. Big pitch right here. He’s going to try to make a pitch. It’s going to produce a strikeout or a ground ball double play. And that one is in the dirt now. One and two. [Applause] 22 in the dirt. Blocked. Count moves to two and two as the runners hold. First and third, one down. Still two and two after the foul ball. Full count. This one in the dirt. Well done behind the dish. Swings and miss has struck him out. Certainly a strikeout situation right there. The infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. Lauriano comes up to hit. That one’s in there. 1-1. [Music] Runners on first and third. Two away. Downing ball here. Rolls. Foul. And that’s outside and count one and two and a swing and a miss. Huge strike out there. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. does an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. New inning getting started. And at the plate for Miami, Connor Nory and downstairs 10. And that one almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. Two and0. swings through that one out in front that time. Good two change up right there. I mean, as a hitter, you have it in the back of your mind, but you have to sit fast ball. And based on the swing, you got to think that’s what he saw out of the hand. Hard ground ball base. So, a man on base to start the inning. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Now it’s a rookie first baseman Liam Hicks. Move to first. Nor dives back in safely. run. Runner on the go. Ripped to right and there’s one down. Arberto Hernandez getting ready to hit. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good. If he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. That clips a corner. Time to check in on our umpires. Earl Hendricks calling balls and strikes. Yeah, well-liked umpire, big pretty consistent with his zone. So, if you’re familiar with him and how he works, you won’t get too surprised by anything. Sometimes they’ll give a little bit off the corner, but nothing too crazy at all. That one misses. And the count one and two. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. Move over to first. Try to keep him close. No score here in the second. That’s a ball in the dirt. Goes down looking. And now the center fielder Dane Meyers. First pitch misses. Strike one. Spin rates outstanding on that high fast ball. Really tough to hit. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. Ball misses. Throw to second. Great jump. And that is a stolen base. It wasn’t even close. Two outs. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball three. Well, out there on the mount. He’s got to go right after this hitter because you don’t want to turn this lineup over. This is the guy that you’ve got to get that final out. Get out of this inning. And ball four, two aboard. Take your base. So, here we go again with the walks. It’s been a real struggle finding the zone for him in the past. Now, even if they get out of this jam, these walks add pressure and stress to the entire team. In the dirt, but kept close. The tag at third and he’s out. They don’t come much closer than that. Bang bang play to end the inning. One left for Miami. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back now at Oral Park. Bottom half of inning number two. And into the box for Baltimore. Colton Cowser. Paris back to work. Swinging a ground ball. Sends it to first. And quickly one away in the second. Tyler. Here’s Tyler O’Neal. That misses. Ball one. One and0. There’s a strike. base hit that was smoked through the infield. So, a man aboard now with one away. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. And next for the Orioles, Cedric Mullins. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. And a strike on the outside corner. And it’s 0 and one. Mullins needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. Now a screamer into the outfield and that should be extra bases. O’Neal on his way to third coming home now. He launches a throw over his head. He was all over that one. That was exactly what you’re looking to do with the pitcher way, especially in that situation. drive it into the opposite field gap. Got himself two bags on a great swing of the bag. [Music] Jacob Stallings now. That’s in there. Strike one. Yeah, making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit 100 dingers. One out, a runner at second. Bottom half of inning number two. One ball, two strikes. fouls it back with two strikes. [Music] Man at second. He goes down looking. Just locked him up right there for the second out. And that’s an atbat he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while. didn’t pull the trigger. Not how you want to go down in an RBI spot. So now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up. Here’s the Orioles leadoff hitter, Jackson Holiday. Walked to open the ball game. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Mullins on it second with two down. That pitch gets the corner. That’s strike two. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. [Music] Andy O2 one and two. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s the second baseman, Xavier Edwards. And he drops it down the third baseline. Bare hand grab and he beats it. He’s safe. He was racing down the line and probably didn’t assume he was going to be safe until his foot hit the bag and looked up for the umpire. Nice bunt and great hustle to get himself a knock. Jesus Sanchez digs in now. 0 for one so far. Maybe a two ball. Five, four, three, and they turn the double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. [Applause] Otto Lopez now at the plate. One for one with a single so far. That one missed. That’s the ball. Lopez measures 5′ 10 in 185 lbs and he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss. Pitch misses now two and0. Was a good pitch there really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. O’Neal makes the grab and that’s the inning. Set for the bottom of the third and into the box for Baltimore. Jordan West. West swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. ball. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. That’s out to center field. Meers under it. And there’s one down. Up next. And now Gunnar Henderson. [Music] First pitch just misses. Just missed. [Music] And another ball. Three and0. And there’s ball four. That’s ball four. Take your base. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Ryan O’Harn the next to hit for the Orioles. Struck out swinging his first time. Just missed one out man at first. One away. Next pitch is outside. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. Grounded to third. Could be two to second. There’s one and that’s two. Three up, three down for him there. On to inning number four. It’s the Orioles one and the Marlins nothing. Start of the fourth. And here’s the catcher, Augustine Ramirez. misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. He’s been pitching well, but going through this middle of the order second time through. We’ll see what kind of adjustments are being made. Right through there for a strike. One ball, one strike. Oh, that hit him. And they put the tag on him for the out. And now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins. He was a strikeout victim his first time. That’s a little bit low. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Check swing, but he went too far and a count. One and one. Inside. just missed. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Cowser. Two down. So two down now. And here is Connor Norby. Singled and stole a base his first time. There’s the strike. In the air, right field makes the catch. And that is that. And we’re back. Here’s Raone Lauraniano. And that’s in for a strike. One. You know, these Orioles showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Fast is outside. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. outside corner. There’s a strike. [Music] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. That misses the zone and the count’s full. Countsful. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Almost a coin flip for the umpire in that call. But most umpires just don’t want to give pitchers a break up in the zone like that. Colton Cowser the next to hit for the Orioles. Grounded out his first time off. Slider misses outside. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball two. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When he elevates, hitters aren’t touched. And a foul ball. got him swinging another curveball now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. Well, that’s such a critical pitch in terms of execution right there. The pitcher has to finish it otherwise probably gets hit pretty hard. If you leave that out over the plate or you don’t get it down enough, quickly turns into something that gets smoked. But if you can place it where he did, it’s a really deceptive pitch. So next to hit for Baltimore, Tyler O’Neal off the plate and it’s one and0. One ball, no strikes. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Hernandez sizing this one up. Hooks it away for the out. Two down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Cedric Mullins the next to hit for the Orioles. Possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. Perez checks over to first and he’s back. And that’s through there for a strike. He must have been looking for something else because he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down Main Street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. Next offering is downstairs. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it late on that fast ball. A guy up like that, you’re feeling like you are in command. Lauriano on the move foul ball left side. He’ll see another. Swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt. Ramirez gathers, throws to first. Got him. Inning over on the strikeout. So no runs, no base hits, no errors. and one left on base. Onto the top of the fifth we go. It’s the Orioles one and the Marlins nothing. Back here in Baltimore top five, John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Liam Hicks. just missed. You know, these Marlins need to bring up the quality of their at bats and specifically their swings. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for them so far. Zero extra base hits in the game, so it’s been tough for him to get anything going. swings and sends a rocket to right. Makes the catch for the and a quick out number one. Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through. But it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have runners in scoring position because they put themselves there. Hernandez batting with one down. Takes a strike. There’s the swinging a miss. No balls. Two strike. One, two. fouls it off. Still one and two. The Orioles leading by a run and we’re in the top of the fifth. Next pitch misses way outside. bows that off to the left and will do it again. Blows the high heat past them. That’s a strike out. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Here’s the center fielder, Dane Meyers. Worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] swing and a miss. There’s the change up. This offense has just been locked down. Almost five full innings of shutout baseball. Struck him out looking. Miami down in order. They still trail one- nothing. Back now at Oral Park. Now here is Jacob Stallings. Paris back to work that catches the corner. Movement in the bullpen. Number 66. The young lefty looks to be getting himself ready. Quantrol getting cranked up as well. Missing inside and the count even one and one and a slider misses down and away. Two balls, one strike. That’s a ball. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. Fouls one away and now three and two. Stays alive. Ground ball up the middle to first. They get the out on Stallings. Now that second base. So back to the top of the Orioles lineup. Here’s the second base, Jackson Holiday. He is struck out and he is walked. That one finds the zone. It’s 0 and one. Big swing and a miss. Just not able to catch up to that velocity. That one just misses and the count is one and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Got it. Make it seven strikeouts for that. Just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the heart stuff boring in on his hands. Westber at the plate now. That’s ball one. And another ball. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Two down. Nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Lifted in the air right center field. Meyers on his way over. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. That is the inning. Nothing doing here this half. We’re through five. It’s the Orioles one and the Marlins nothing. All set for the top of the sixth. Now it’s the Marlins leadoff hitter, Xavier Edwards. swings and pulls a foul to the right side. He swings and hits a fly ball center field and that will fall. And they have their first base runner since the third inning. Hitting is really easy for some guys. It’s one thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. No outs. Runner at first. Jesus Sanchez the next up for the Marlins. climb the ladder with that fast ball and it’s 0 and one with a tying run on at first and we’re in the top half of the six. Way to lay off that pitch down and a pitch out but no steal and it’s ball two. Well, here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit and hardly order coming up right behind him. This is where they need to get going. The 2-1 3-1 in the dirt and the runner holds and ball forward to a board. Base knock and now a free pass. This has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple more quality at bats. First and second, no outs. Otto Lopez the next up for the Marlins. in the air left field and there’s one away. Good pitch. He just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn’t able to stay closed. So now it’s the fourhole hitter, Augustine Ramirez. He’s 0 for one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Good miss with that change up away. He needs a ball on the ground for a double play. Minimize the potential threat right here on the hitter side. Nice job of laying off that pitch. Late swing fouled off. And that’s way high. Two and one. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Swings and misses. And that is strike two. Runners at first and second with one gone. And it remains two and two ball. Kyle Stard, you got a full count in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two on, one out. Got him. Swinging for the K. The tag gets him and it’s a double play to end the inning. When you get thrown out at third with two outs, you kind of want to keep on running. Not a great decision there as it ends the inning. Back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound. number 66 bringing in the lefty with a left-handed hitter coming up to hit. Classic bullpen move right here. So, we’ll see how it works out. 345 do up for the home team. And now the shortstop Gunnar Henderson. Henderson. Henderson 23 years old and he was a second round pick back in 2019. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Calvin Foscher up and throwing. Next pitch is outside. Ball and there’s a ball. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. That one misses. So a leadoff walk. You get a walk and you get a walk. Everyone gets a walk, boo. Ryan O’Harn the next to hit for the Orioles. Bowl for two in this one. Inside. Just missed. That’s inside. Well, that pitch not even close. A two- count now. He can’t be overaggressive. He’s got to make sure that pitch is right on a T for him. And fires in a fast ball at 95. Well, looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. popped in the air left field. Hernandez makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting hitter. Raone Lauriano the next to hit. puts it in the air out towards left center. Meyers hauls it in and there’s two away. [Music] Next to hit, Colton Cowser taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. And that misses one and0. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Two outs. That clips the corner. hit in the air right field. Sanchez makes the grab and that ends the inning. And the Orioles leave one, but they still lead it one- nothing. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Gregory Sodto. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. So, now the DH spot, Kyle Stard. Now he breaks his bat. Henderson zips it to first. That’s the first out in the top of the seventh. Well, as a hitter, it can be kind of tough. You get a hard throwing reliever that comes in the ball game, you don’t know exactly what his pitches are doing, and that clearly blew him off on the hand, sought off that bat. Tell you what, the bat companies, they’re pretty happy when guys like this come in out of the bullpen. And up next for Miami, Connor Norby and ball one. And that drops in for a strike. Action in the pen down there. Sir Anthony Dominguez is up and throwing for Brandon High. Baker also throwing holding on to a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. Late that time. It’s strike two. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Inside. Almost got him. Battling here as he fouls it away. swing and a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. O’Neal makes the grab and there’s two gone. And now the first baseman Liam Hicks and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Swang and a miss and a count is 0 and two. Started in and ended up on the outside edge. Just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. Looking to get the tying run on base. One ball. And that’s in the dirt. down. Got him. Looked in. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. And the Marlins down quietly. They’re down one- nothing. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Calvin Foch. And he has some nasty breaking stuff. And now the right fielder Tyler O’Neal. One for two. Tyler O’Neal. Right through there for a strike. There it was. Oh. Oh, here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in the count. [Music] drilled in the air out towards right center. Sanchez ranging after it and there’s one away. Cedric Mullins the next to hit for the Orioles. Let’s go Oreos. Outside low ball one and he swings through that one. One one That’s inside and the count is even. Two and two. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom of the seventh. Pitch misses and it’s three and two. Caught him looking for the K. Two down, base is empty. And next for the Orioles, Jacob Stallings. Out of the corner for a strike on one. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. And this one looks like trouble around first and hustling for second. And he’s in there standing up with a two out double. Everything came together for him. As soon as that one shot off his barrel, he was thinking extra bases. really nice job of getting the bat out front but not hooking around it or rolling over it. Just kept the swing on plane and smoke that thing into the gap. [Applause] So runner at second, two down. Holiday getting ready to hit a walk and a pair of strikeouts. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Hernandez settles underneath it and makes the grab and that’ll do it. So they can’t do anything with a two-out double. Eighth inning coming up, it’s the Orioles one and the Marlins nothing. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Sir Anthony Dominguez. Well, walks have been a big issue for him this year. So, I expect these hitters to be patient up there. So, now a pinch hitter, Derek Hill. Well, with this speed, he could really make some things happen leading off. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. Try to keep good speed off the bases. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. That one outside. One and two to count. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Corbin Martin is up and throwing for Brandon Hyde. in there. Got him looking and that one split the plate. Pretty good strike out right there to start this eighth inning. Down one. Any lead off base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting. But now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to string multiple hits together to get a run across the plate. So digging in Dane Meyers a strike out and a walk and the first pitch misses for ball one and a swing and a miss there. Well, you got to find a way to catch up to that pitch. perhaps shorten the swing, eliminate the stride. That one came in hot. But right down the middle, you’re saying to yourself, “How did I miss that pitch?” Got to make a quick adjustment. Trying to hold a one-run lead. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And that is out of play. ball. Savior Edwards in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. He fouls it off. Will do it again. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. One down. Base is empty. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Unafraid to throw it right there. That’s trusting your stump. Just one out away from getting out of a huge jam. Swing and a miss. That one to 99. And that’s strike one. Nope. Ball. and strike two. No, no signs of wavering on the mound here in the eighth. He’s looking rock solid so far. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Impeccable command in that one. Three batters, three strikeouts. That’s electric stuff out there on the mound. bottom of the eighth and into the box for Baltimore. Jordan Westbird. Jordan West. Foscher back to work. Rips one to right. lays out but he can’t squeeze it and the lead off man aboard. Wastes no time there. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. And now they got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Then at first they’re the batter now Gunner Henderson. There’s the strike of the knees. Westber aboard here at first with nobody out. That’s outside and it’s one and one. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 count. Instead, it’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. Edging the zone for a strike at the count. One and two. [Music] Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another And that’s in the dirt and it’s two and two. Well, with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt, a good secondary lead. Doesn’t have to get away from the catcher, but if you were anticipating based off the trajectory, get yourself into scoring position. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Ryan O’Harn. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. One end up in the dirt. Blocked. F. And that one hammered and a foul ball. That one misses and the count two and one. Two in one. One run game. One out, one on. Check swing called strike. Two-2 now to third and it stays fair. The throw to third. Not in time. He’s safe. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Runners at the corners here. One away. Raone Lauriano the next to hit for the Orioles. First pitch and he just misses. Runners at the corners. One away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Liner caught at second. That’ll drive you crazy as a hitter if you let it. I mean, he couldn’t have hit that ball more on the screws than he did. And yet, he’s got nothing to show for it. Hang with him. I know the feeling. At the plate, Colton Cowser 0 for three in this one. runner. Pitch. It’s a double steel. Squirts away a little bit. Out at the plate. He’s out trying to steal home. One left for the Orioles, but they lead it one to nothing. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Corbin Martin. A chance at his first save of the year. Well, one-run game. Now it’s the right fielder, Jesus Sanchez. and ball one to the right fielder. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and the tying run is on with a leadoff single. Oh, that at bat had a lot riding on it. Certainly a pivotal swing of the bat in this ball game. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. Now it’s the short stop. Otto Lopez one for three. First pitch misses. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. swing and a highf fly ball well struck left field back there going and the Marlins jump out in front it’s 21 that sound you hear is every rider in the press box smashing the delete button on their keyboards talk about flipping the script boo this story was set up for a different type of finish now who knows how to [Applause] He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. And now the catcher comes up to him. Augustine Ramirez. knee high. That’s in for a strike. Can be tough to bounce back after big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. Martin a 6-2 righty. He features a forseam fast, a change up, a curve, and he works in a slider. Next pitch downstairs, one and one activity in the bullpen for Baltimore. Andrew Kitridge is up and throwing for Brandon Hyde. There’s a one-1 swing and a high fly ball out towards right center field. Puts it away for the out. Now the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Corbin Martin out of the game and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming up. We’ll be back in a minute. So, out of the pack comes the right-hander Ryan Baker. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like the smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins and first offering is fouled off and it’s going to miss. Take the donut off the bat, partner. And they’ll do it again. Way high. One, two. That this is the zone. Two and two. Swings through it for the K. Pulled the string on the change up. You had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field. just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Connor Norby the next up for the Marlins and he swings and misses and it’s nothing in one. No balls, one strike [Music] ball. [Music] And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Gets a piece and stays alive. hit on the ground to short. Henderson zips it across and that is that two-run shot for Miami this inning and it’s now a two-1 ball game. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Ronnie Enriquez. Now, this is an extremely confident pitcher. He loves the pressure. Actually likes the oneun game better than a comfortable three-run save opportunity because that’s when he pitches his best. So, digging in, Colton Cowser. Cowser. There’s the strike. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. One and two. The count to the right side and that chance handled. throws to first in time and they get the leadoff man in the ninth. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. And now the right fielder Tyler O’Neal in there and it’s one trying to close out a one-run lead and the home team trying to pull it out. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away out to short. Lopez and the Orioles down to their final out. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. And now the center fielder, Cedric Mullins. Ball wall and a pitch inside. One ball, no strike. And another ball. Got to be real careful here. 200. He’s hunting for his pitch. Next pitch is downstairs. Big pitch coming right here. Last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base, but he can’t groove one either. That one to first. Steps on the bag himself. Ball game. The ball game. This team had to battle with that 10th man. And those fans making a lot of noise, but they took the lead in the ninth inning, quieted things down, and were able to get those final three outs in the bottom half as well. Just a very wellexecuted ball game. And your final score here today, 2-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.

What? No comments but mine? That's a head scratcher. Go O's!! Keep feasting on those NL teams. They have won 6 of their last 7 vs NL teams. That's fantastic. 👏
