MLB LIVE🔴 Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays – Jul 11, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

just about set to go. And on the hill, it’s Walker Beller and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. and he’s been able to move his pitches around, added some track, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Yandi Diaz leading things off and takes a strike. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Good job to fight that one off on the ground to first and that’s a fair ball. No throw and he’s on at first. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. so impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that, but so far I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. So up next, Jonathan Aranda. Little bit low. off the mark there. And that’s ball two. Slapped hard the other way, but fouled. Walker. lifted in the air right center field. Raphaela on his way over. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out and there’s one down. That third. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year. Yeah, and when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for errors. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands, and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. Diaz leads off first with one away. That one in 95 missed up top. Now two balls in a strike three and one on the ground to second. Might be two. Good feed. That’s one. And that’s two. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. And now the Red Sox get their turn. No score. Back inside Fenway Park. And our pitcher tonight, Taj Bradley. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Jiren Durant, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. line to left. Calls it in and there’s one away. Batting second. As we check out the lineup for the Boston Red Sox. This an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click. And unfortunately, what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more, and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Roman Anthony batting with one down, takes a strike. Next offering misses and it’s a ball and a strike. One out. Base is empty. Next offering is downstairs. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batting third designated hitter. And next for the Red Sox, Abraham Toro. He’s been a great free agent side. Runner on the go. Cut on and miss. Throw to second. Tag out at second. Usually when you see a team try to steal a base in the early innings, it tells you they want to be aggressive on offense, try to force the defense to make plays and slow them down. That’s exactly what they did right there. So, we’ll see if that caught stealing changes the offensive approach moving forward. Next pitch is inside and one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. Two down. Nobody on. Ground ball up the middle and that one finds its way through. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. I know that was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know they used to say charge it crazy. And now Carlos Narvz. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still manages a throw. Misplay doesn’t cost him. Inning over and the Red Sox leave one. Scoreless after one. Back here in Boston. Top of the second. And now here is Josh Low. Walker Beller will go back to work in there at the knees and that’s strike one [Applause] and that one pulled foul. Next one misses and it’s one and two. One ball, two strikes. And that’s downed away. That’s inside. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. And here is Hassan Kim. That’s inside and it’s one and0. No score here in the second. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Clyde Washington doing the umpiring behind the dish in this one. Sometimes considered a bit of a pitcher umpire singing. He likes the low ball which traditionally favors pitching but you know hitters today are pretty good at dropping their barrel down. So we’ll see how it goes in this one. Next pitch off the play and the count two and one. What about an umpire’s height? How much of a role does that play in your experience and what the strike zone is like? Yeah, I think it pushes the strike zone up a little bit, which you know, as a former hitter, you like that. You wanted the ball up. You didn’t want to have to deal with stuff down in the zone consistently. And it’s through for a hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. And here’s the rookie center fielder. Buer looked to first at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Kim leads off first with one away and he posts it a strike. Don’t play situation here. He’s been working up in the zone. Typically you look for guys to get that ground ball. See if he adjusts on this next pitch. Swings and misses. Struck him out. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him. And you know, the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big runner on the go. Pitching for a strike. Throw to second. He’s safe. You know what? I like the aggressiveness right there. It looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one. Really good pitching so far. So, why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag, get in the scoring position. That’s a base hit. Coming home, the throw in now. A dive for the tag and he gets him. So, it’s no runs on two base hits. No errors and a runner left. Now to the bottom of the second. No score. Bottom half of inning number two. And now the right fielder, Willard Abrau hit pretty well in the air out to center. Sizes this one up. He’s got it. And a quick out number one. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Trevor Story stands in now and watches strike one. Swanging a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. Calls it in. And there’s two away. Off to a great start. He’s really cruising out there on the mound. He’s got a chance to get through these first two innings with under 20 pitches. That could set him up to go deep into this game. Romy Gonzalez up next for the Red Sox. In there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. [Applause] He swings and fouls one off. Two outs. Base is empty. Lifted in the air out to left and that’ll fall for a base hit. [Applause] Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Number 39. So stepping in for Boston, Marcelo Meyer. [Applause] That catches the outside corner. That’s strike one. Little chopper rolls foul. is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. Getty dodges that fast. Two balls. Two strike. [Applause] [Applause] Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. fouls it back with two strikes. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. So that’s two straight two out hits. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When he’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. First and second, two outs. Digging in, it’s the speedy outfielder Son Raphaela. [Applause] fought off foul. One in the dirt but kept close to third. Tag got him. Bang bang play and the inning is over. One left for the Red Sox. We’ll move to the third with no score. Back now with Benway on the third inning and the batter now Matt th Beller back to work. Thice measures 6 feet even 29 years old a former first round pick back in 2016. headed towards the corner and a foul ball. Outside low and the count is one and two. Swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field. Raphaela makes the grab. One away. batting. So digging in, Taylor Wall singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. In the air, left field down the line and that’s a foul ball. And now it’s even up. Top of the third, no score. In for a strike. Now one and two. Swing and a miss. And he got him. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Got away with that curveball. No doubt about it. It passed right through the heart of the strike zone and he just couldn’t get the bat on it. When you strike out on one like that, that’s when you start having conversations with yourself and they’re not usually very friendly. So, the batting order turns over. Yandi Diaz, the next to hit. He’s one for one. Let off the game with a single and the first pitch misses for ball one. No strike. And the right-hander deals. And now two balls in a strike. That to right Abrau and makes the play and that’s out number three. Home half of the third coming up. No score back here in Boston. And now here’s a spin threat outfielder Zan Raphael. Ella pitch misses there and that’s ball one. One and0. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That’s back there. Great effort on the leaping grab. Now that left fielder Jiren Durant sing. He made a tough play after a long run to get to that baseball. I have a feeling you want to see it again with Stackcast. Absolutely. And what was so key was that first step, Boo. It was a good one. And it’s got to be. And if you’re going to be able to cover 125 ft to run that ball down and you know, not a lot of outfielders in this league are able to make that play or even make it near consistently. Now batting Jiren Durant. Walls. Throw to first in time. Now batting second baseman Roman Anthony. And stepping in for Boston, Roman Anthony. One for one with a single so far. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One ball. No strike. Right through there for a strike. And that’s a base hit. And with the Unix still alive, here comes the heart of the order. Now batting designated hitter. Now it’s the DH Abraham Toro. a single his first time. That one misses. Ball one. Anthony the runner at first with two gone. Popped up. Walls, makes the catch. And that is that. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. On to inning number four. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. And we’re back here at Fenway Park. John Chi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Jonathan. [Music] Come on. Just missed. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Raphaela flashes the leather on the run and catch. Now the third baseman, Junior Camro. First pitch just misses. Fourth inning underway. No score. And there’s a foul ball. Swanging a miss. One and two. Well, he went inside a couple of times and now outside. Hitter’s not exactly sure where to look for this next pitch. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Josh Low. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time just off the outside edge and that’s ball one. Evidently not too impressed with that call and it feels like he got squeezed on the outside corner. So he’s making his case. You got to be careful to pick your spots in terms of showing your frustration with the umpire and he felt this was his time. And that one hammered and it’s off the green monster. Now he’ll turn for second and he’s in there standing up with a two out double. Couldn’t have tied it up any better than that. Just missed out on a home run right there, but he certainly hit it hard enough. Just didn’t have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall, but still an excellent swing of the bat. Now, let’s see if they can put up the first run of the game. Hassan Kim next to hit for the Rays. Singled and stole a bases first time. A short stop takes a ball. Well, they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. So, two balls and no strikes. Runner at second. Two down. Top half of inning number four. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. to third. Gets it to first and he has thrown four shutout innings. A double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. On now to the bottom of the fourth, no score. Back here at Fenway. Bottom of the fourth. And now it’s the catcher for the Red Sox, Carlos Nova. Pitch in the dirt and that is ball one. You know, these Red Sox, to put it bluntly, need to put together more competitive at bats and I don’t think they’ve lived up to their own expectations at the plate. They’re swinging early, being aggressive, but one or two pitches later, the at bat is over. That’s not going to cut it if it’s not resulting in hits. So, they might want to be a little more selective up there. Way high. Still two and two after the foul ball. right side holds it in for the out. Now batting right fielder Willard. So up next, Willard Abrau 0 for one with a fly out to center. [Applause] First pitch misses. [Applause] And another ball not showing great command so far in this at bat. 20 count. He’s got to execute here or this could get ugly. Next offering is fouled back. Check swing. Did he go? No, he didn’t. [Applause] And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Goes down looking. frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Story in the box now. No balls in a strike. [Music] Next offering is down low. One ball, one strike. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. They say it went one and two. Swing and a miss. Splitter in the dirt. gets to it onto first. That completes the strikeout and that’ll do it through four. Still tied. Zip. Zip. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s the center fielder number 14. check swing and he went 4-1. Well, these Rays need to bring up the quality of their bats and specifically their swings. Just one extra base hit for him, so they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. Buer turns, kicks, fires in the air out towards left center. Durant puts it away for the out and there’s one away. Now batting left fielder Christopher Christopher Morell digs in now. fouled off down the right side. All tied up and we’re in the top of the fifth. That’s to third and that’s just foul. That one not close now. One and two. and downstairs on the ground right side. Slides for the stop and that’s a great play for the out. Just so impressed with the movement on that play. Footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out. Matt th comes up to hit here. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. That one clips the outside corner. It’s 0 and one. Two outs. That’s in there. And it’s nothing in two. It’s just been an impressive outing so far. Continues to pound the zone pitch after pitch and he’s been able to stay down. That’s what’s been key. That’s outside and count one and two. And that one lifted in the air. Center field makes the grab and that’s the inning. Halfway through this one. Still no score. Back here at Fedway. And stepping in is the speedy Romy Gonzalez. Romy Gonzalez. And the first pitch misses for ball one. You know, these Red Sox doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game, and the numbers back that up. The numbers tell us they’re averaging more than a hit every inning, and they’ve only struck out twice. So, they keep finding ways to put their bat on the ball. Here’s the swing, a line drive, and a base hit to right field. So, a man on base to start the inning. Well, he’s been working out of the stretch just about the entire game. a lot of base runners on against him and he’s just done a really nice job of scattering the hits, not giving up any runs, but at some point your luck usually runs out. Now, here is Marcelo Meyer and he’s already singled in this game. Bradley checks the runner and he’s back in there. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Dice sizing this one up. Has room and he makes the catch. Up next for the Red Sox, center fielder Sidon. And now the center fielder, Sidon Raphaela. He’s 0 for one. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. This guy’s definitely a plus runner. But what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that, even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths. Pickoff throw. Gonzalez dives back in safely. One away tie game. Go ahead run. Stands at first. Last half of inning number five. Way inside. This is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play. And that one is downstairs. And that’s ball three to lay off that pitch down. [Applause] And that one clips the corner. Gonzalez the base runner at first with one out. Pitch is in there and the count’s full with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Cut on and lifted in the air. It falls in and that’s enough into third now. So runners at the corners and one out. Oh, just a nice job coming through in a really high leverage spot right there. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer, and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Two on, one out. Jiren Durant up next for the Red Sox. Here goes the runner. Swing and a miss. Safe at second with a stolen base. That was close, but Stackcast shows us why he so often seems to be on the safe side of these steel attempts, Chris. Yeah, you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag. Such a threat on the bases line and that’s a base hit. One runs in now a long throw home. It’s offline and he scores and they lead by two. Well, there you go. the RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. One down. Roman Anthony will hit next. Runner on the move. Pitch misses. Throw to second. Save. Here’s what I think the manager is thinking right now. Today, we’re not driving the ball. It’s hard to get extra base hits. We’ve got to make something happen to get a runner into scoring position. That stolen base. Excellent call. Now all it takes is perhaps a single to put a run on the board. Red Sox by two. On the ground to the left, jumps, throws, got him. Nice play. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. And now Abraham Toro one for two. Squirts away a little bit. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Ryan Pepio, the young right-hander up and throwing. Boille also throwing. Red Sox leading it by two. That’s a little bit low. [Applause] And there’s the strike. Really consistent release point. He’s been able to pitch up and down and have excellent command at both locations. Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. Two runs, three hits, no errors and one left. Five innings complete. It’s the Red Sox two. The Rays nothing. Back here at Fenway Park. All set for the top of the six. Now here is Taylor Walls. Buer back to work and that’s way high and it’s one and0. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there have a real quick inning. Get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. This to third. Meer now one gone in the top of the six. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. So, the Rays batting order turns over. Yandi Diaz now and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Diaz, 33 years old and he was born in Cuba. Swinging at a ball popped in the air and that’s a foul ball. I want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the could be low. Check swing now to look down to first. didn’t go. That missed by a lot. Two balls, two strikes. And that one missing low. liner to second and picked on the hop and that quickly two away. Now batting the first baseman Jonathan Aranda. So two down now and here is Jonathan Aranda for two in this one. That one finds the zone. strike one. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. No, two strike. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Make it six shut out innings for him out there. Now it’s the Red Sox two. The Rays nothing. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Ryan Pepio on for his 20th appearance of the year. Number 44, Ryan Pepio. Here’s the Boston Cleanup hitter. Carlos Nvatcher Carlos Narvz. That one fouled off and a foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Outside corner. Got him looking. Now batting will Abrau up next for the Red Sox. Abrau and fires in a fast ball at 95. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the six. Late on that fast ball. I think he was sitting off speed there. That’s off the inside corner. One and two to count. Really good take especially with two strikes. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Chance to strike out the side. Now you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss. Whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. In the air left field, Morell makes the catch and over back inside Fenway Park. Now it’s going to be Junior Camroero. in the dirt and that’s ball one. The Red Sox with some bullpen action. Renan Bernardino, the left-hander up and throwing. Wilson getting loose as well. Late swing fouled off. Next one in the dirt. There’s the strike of the knees. Sea strikes him out for the second time today. A big first out here in the seventh via the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this. When you got the leadoff hitter, so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So, a strikeout really puts them on their heels. So, here’s the cleanup hitter, Josh Low. Drove it off the wall last time, just missed out on a home run. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One down. Base is empty. Here’s a highf fly ball out to center. Raphaela calls it in. Two away. Now batting short stop. Hang. Now up for Tampa Bay. Hassan Kim. First pitch misses. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. Here’s a 1-1. Fast ball is outside. And the sweeper is off the plate. Oh, they have had a hard time scoring in this one. The pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking. Make sure that they don’t get any confidence. Foul ball. And there’s ball four. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Almost a coin flip for the umpire in that call. But most umpires just don’t want to give pitchers a break up in the zone like that. [Music] Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first. That’s in for a strike. go to second and that’ll end the inning. The catcher definitely looked ready for that stolen base attempt. Got in position quickly and a strike down to second base to end the inning. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the seventh and the batter now, Romy Gonzalez. Romy Gonzalez. swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field and puts the squeeze on that one. And there’s one down. Now batting number 39. And next for the Red Sox, Marcelo Meyer. And the pitch a little bit low. Ball one. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. Started to swing. Held up. Next offering is fouled back on the ground to short. Kim throws to first in time. Oh, we talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. Two down, base is empty. Stepping in, Son Raphaela. And that is cut on and missed. Strike one. One. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Been a solid inning so far in relief. getting them through this inning only down two could give their lineup a real opportunity to just grind their way back into this game with the few outs that they have left. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. One, two, three go to Red Sox as they’re unable to add to their two nothing lead. Now pitching now on the bunk, Brennan Bernardino. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Here’s the center fielder. There’s nobody on in front of him. You know, a single for him many times is a double. This guy is off to the races, ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base. There’s the strike. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful. Not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. And it’s one and one. One ball, one strike. on the ground right side and that chance handled. Sends it to first and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. Morell stands in here, takes ball one low. That one found hard the other way. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. Next pitch is outside. Two and one. A little out front there as he swings through it. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Just misses with that one. And down on strikes he goes. Now two out. Up next for two out. Base is empty. And here’s the catcher Matt Ths. Next pitch in for a strike and it’s one and one. The Rays trailing by two and we’re in the top of the eighth. Next offering is in for a strike. keeps the attack going with a foul ball. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Gets a piece there. will do it again. Hanging in there pretty good against the lefty. Two down. Nobody on and a foul ball. He stays alive. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Narvz makes the catch and that’ll do it. Nothing do it for Tampa. They trail it here two nothing. Now pitching for now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Garrett Clevenger. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Now the left fielder Jiren Durant singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean watching him track balls in the outfield. It is beautiful. So how much does his speed factor into his ability to go get it? It’s heartbreaking for the hitter because off the bat he thinks this ball’s going to get down because of that speed and the ability to make up so much ground. He enters the picture and breaks a guy’s heart. That’s a ball. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boo, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. got him swinging. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone. And then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Anthony now in the box comes up empty with a swing there. Yeah, some guys just have instincts, right? I mean, that’s the way it goes. We talk about Larry Walker, the Hall of Famer, and his instinct on the bases, despite the fact that he didn’t play a ton of baseball as a kid. Remember Mark Cay was a real good defensive outfielder. Good instincts, not great speed. next offering way upstairs. Yeah. And I figured you would get caught into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. And there’s a ball. Free ball. Two strike. That one the other way. Fair ball. clearly seeing the ball very well on this one. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. So, a man aboard and now Abraham Toro and ball one. One ball. No strike. Anthony the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Here’s the pitch. Runner goes ball outside. Throw and they got him. Man, I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. Nasty two- slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. Next pitch misses and the count is three and one. That’s a walk. Went with the cutter again, but couldn’t find his own. One of the things about that two-out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Hard grounder into the outfield for a nine. Throw in holds the lead runner at second. Two on now with two away. No waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. And here is Willard Abrau. Close but called a ball. Ball one. First and second, two down here. The bottom half of the eighth inning up the middle on to first and that will end the inning. Two left on through eight full. It’s the Red Sox two. The Rays nothing now pitches. Welcome back. And here comes the closer Chapman coming on to face a righty here. And he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. And stepping in for the Rays, Taylor Walls. [Applause] Chapman, a 6-4 lefty. He features a four seam fast, a sinker, a slider, and occasionally works in a splitter. And there’s the strike. Good heater at 98. Pretty rare location right there. Right down the middle. This guy paints the edges. Not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter. [Applause] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. [Applause] [Applause] Pitch misses and a count. One and two. The other way and that’s a base hit. And a good start to the inning. back against the wall with two strikes but found a way. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. And now the DH Yandi Diaz and the first pitch misses for ball one. swing and a miss. Ugly swing right there. You tie a guy up like that, you’re feeling like you are in command. That one lifted to left. Durant. And there’s one down. Up next for Tampa Bay, first baseman Jonathan Aranda. Jonathan Aranda getting ready to hit. 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout. Swing and that ball smashed on a line. No trouble here. puts it away for the eye. And there’s two down. Now batting third baseman, Junior Camro. Last chance for the Rays. Junior Camero next to hit for the Rays. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Swang and a miss. that one to 99 with the tying run at the plate here in the top of the ninth. This could end it. tying run at the plate. And that’s the ball game. Well, when you reel off eight wins in a row, you’re this close to double digits. And now all of a sudden, it’s a challenge within a challenge to get two more wins to get to 10. But there’s definitely a high level of confidence that this team is playing at right now. And that’s one of those things you don’t want to rock the boat. You don’t want to disturb things. Make sure the clubhouse is giving you the same good food it’s been giving you all along and you can keep this win streak going. Two nothing your final here in this one. For Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
