MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jul 12, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Welcome into Bush Stadium in downtown St. Louis. Saturday afternoon action on the show. The Atlanta Braves taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. almost ready to get underway. Today’s starting pitcher, Miles Michaels. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around. and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Akuna punches one foul right side inside at one and one. Oh, here’s a player who hits the ball a mile when he connects. In fact, Akuna is the first player in the Statcast era to hit 10 straight home runs, all traveling more than 420 ft. He’s not exactly just clearing the fences out there. Well, I I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. Next offering upstairs. That catches the corner. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Almost a coin flip for the umpire in that call. But most umpires just don’t want to give pitchers a break up in the zone like that. Matt Olsen in the box now. No balls in a strike. Michaelis in his ninth season, 36 years old, and he was drafted in the seventh round back in 2009. Here’s the pitch to Olsen. Misses outside. Ball one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. misses inside and it’s two and one line drive caught up. All right, let’s take a look at the lineup. This is an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click and unfortunately what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. Yeah, that’s fouled off. comes up empty. That’s strike two. Big time jam right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. Andy Ou got him looking. Not sure about that call. Pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three. No, you know, that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy. He knows the strike zone extremely well. And you know what? Good hitters are not going to compromise. He’ll take that punch out, but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else. Here’s Shawn Murphy. And that is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. And there’s a foul ball. Akuna off of first with two away. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Get out of here, Braves. gets a piece and stays alive. Two outs. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Third out. Braves strand one. Now the Cardinals will see what they can do. There’s no score. Back after this on the show. And we’re back. And towing the slab in this one, Spencer Strider. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Fought off foul. Ball in. Next offering is in for a strike. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count. One, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Throw on to Olsen. One up, one down. Here’s a Cardinal lineup now. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year. Yeah, and when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for errors. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands, and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. And there’s July breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Alec Burlson next up for the Cardinals. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. That’s back and it hits the fence and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Wastes no time there. put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And he’ll feel real good about that one. Zo runner at second. Two down and up to hit is Wilson Contrarus. Ball one low. Well, you always want to come out in the first inning, try to put something up on the board. It’s a big two out double right there. See if the cleanup man can drive him in and put a tally up there on the board. That one way inside. Straighten him up a little bit. Well, they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. Bass for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. Man at second. Breaking ball misses down and away. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter’s count. Lars Nbar in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. right side hard hit and that is that. So one left for the Cardinals. We played an inning, no score. Back here at Bush Stadium all set for the start of the inning. Now it’s the DH Juriken Proar Michael back to work. That one hit at the knees for a strike. Man, I mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Swing and a miss. Oh, and two. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Bitting off for the Braves. Marcelo Zuna coming up to hit that misses. Ball one. Ball one. No strike. Let’s get the easy now. Let’s go. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. He’s a bad ball hitter, so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. Just off the outside edge. And that’s ball two. That’s a ball. Three balls, one strike. Hard hit left side. Off balance feed. There’s one relay to first double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Albi Azi Alb’s up to the plate. Swings through that. 01’s the count. That one catches the corner for a strike. Pitch misses and a count one and two. I don’t know how you take that one after the called strike on the corner. Just a little bit off the edge and there’s a fly ball deep right field. That one’s back. Out of here. That’s career homer number 149. And they jump ahead in the second. It’s one- nothing. That was one of those home runs where you really don’t know if he got enough of it off the bat. I mean, he put a good swing on it clearly, but I wouldn’t say he really got the sweet spot on the bat. The exit vo wasn’t anything too impressive, but it had all it needed for him to circle the pillows. Michael Harris II, the next to hit, takes ball one and a one. That one pushed to the left and fouled. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next offering upstairs and that is out of play. Two down, base is empty but one run across here in the top of the second. And that’s downstairs and outside. And that’s too high. And it’s ball four. It’s been a little bit of a shaky inning, but he’s still in a good spot to get out of this thing without giving up any more runs. He’s just got to turn the page and go after this next guy. Now it’s going to be Nick Allen. A little bit high. One and0. Two outs. And there’s the strike. I got a ball. One strike. The one-1 is fouled off. bows it off. Still one and two. This one in the dirt on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now one- nothing. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now for St. Louis, Lars Newar. Come on, Lars. Had a strike in there. Check swing and he went and the count is 0 and two. That fast ball at the bottom of the zone can be very effective. Just got to keep it on the corners and takes low for ball one. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. In the air. left field down the line and a foul ball. That one missed. That one in the dirt and the count is filled up. Swinging a ground ball. Alb’s over to first in time. So it was a long battle at the plate, but they still managed to get the out. Third base. Here’s Nolan Aronado. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Strike one. 0 and one. That one fouled off on the ground. Allen already two out here in the home half of inning number two. Batting seven second baseman Nolan. Here’s Nolan Gorman. Gorman. And that’s a little bit high. And that’s ball one. Counts. One and0. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. I got one ball, one strike. Swing. And a ball popped up. Allen drops into the glove. And that is that. One, two, three. Go to Cardinals. They’re down one- nothing. Back here in St. Louis. Top half of the third inning. Here’s Ronald Aun Jr. at the plate. Looks like the weather could actually play a factor in this one. It’s coming down pretty good. Yeah, it is. and it’s not too bad yet, but the field’s not going to be able to hold up if the rain gets any worse than this. So, keep an eye on the pitcher mound as well and the rest of the infield start to puddle up a little bit. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. keeps the attack going with a foul ball. The next offering misses now. One and two. That one out to right. Makes the grab. One away. And the batter now Matt Olsen 0 for one so far. Matt Olsen. Foul ball there. Ball one there. Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. And Olsson is set down. Two down, base is empty. And now Austin Riley caught looking his first time up and it’s fouled away to the right side Gorman and the inning is over. Braves are set down one, two, three, but they’re on top one- nothing. Back here in St. Louis as we go to the last of the third and stepping in for the Cardinals, Johel Poso. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Tap foul at the plate. And here it comes. Swings and misses. Murphy throws to first in time. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Knight. And up next for St. Louis, Victor Scott splits the plate. That’s strike one. Strider is a guy known for his velocity. He can bring it. But that wasn’t always the case. Coming back from an injury in college, Strider was throwing 94 to 96 mph. Boog when the Braves drafted him. Now he lights up the radar gun with tripledigit speeds. right through there for his strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this at bat to hit. One out, base is empty. This one in the air. Alb’s hooks it away for the out. That’s out number two. Man, he just couldn’t lay off right there. Those high fast balls, they just look really good because they’re eye level, but they’re just about impossible to get the barrel to. Donovan in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Swinging a foul out of play. Chopped to first, but he kicks fouled. Two down to swaying and a ball popped in the air and it drops in. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Win the batter now. Mason win. Goal for one. Popped down foul to the catcher. His first time out. and that misses and it’s one and0. Hit on the ground to the right side and foul ball. Strider deals. That one ripped but fouled. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Fights it off. You’ll see another. Here’s a one-two battling here as he fouls it away. The next pitch misses and the count is two and two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headtohead. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch. even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. To second and he’s out. They don’t come much closer than that. Bang bang play to end the inning and welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth. So here’s Murphy now. Jack Swain called strike. Strike one. You know, these Braves doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Now batting the designated hitter, Juriken Pro. Now batting Juriken Proar, you know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today. Right through there for a strike. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. Popped up foul territory behind a plate. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, pulls it down, and there’s two gone. Got it. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Here comes Ozuna up to the plate. He hit into a double play his first time up. is outside. Ball one. Two out. Base is empty. Now a check swing at the 1-1. Look down to first and he went, says Larry Bullard. Here’s the pitch to Ozuna. swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Down in order go the Braves, but they still lead it one- nothing. And we’re back. Bottom four now for St. Louis. Mason win. Mason win and that misses and that’s ball one. You know, these Cardinals as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. The 3-1 back up the Oh, that got him. Safe at first. And now after the play, we’ll check on the right-hander status. And now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. And now the right fielder Alec Burlson doubled in his first AB outside one and0. Well, here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit and hardly order coming up right behind him. This is where they need to get going. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field and that’ll get down for a hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Couple of singles back to back. That ball right there landed in what they call a no man’s land. Meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily. I mean, it’s a tough play going back for the shorts stop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in. They got to go a long way as well. First and second, no outs. Here’s Contraras now. That missed by a lot. Ball one. Ground ball left side could be two. Offbalance feed. There’s one. Plenty of time at first. That’s a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. And now Lars Nuke grounded out his first time up. That one’s in there. One and one. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. The one ball, one strike. Just ball two. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. Huge strike out there. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. Back here at Bush Stadium. Here is Aussie Alb’s up here. Aussie Alb back to work. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. So up next, Michael Harris II. He reached out to walk his first time. Ali’s on the move. Swing and this one’s bounced to the ground. Whips it to first. One away here in the fifth. Now batting shortstop Nick Allen. So digging in Nick Allen 0 for one. He grounded out to first his last time. Inside just missed. Next offering is in for a strike. The shorts stop takes a ball. This ball’s chopped on the ground. takes it to the bag, steps on first, and it’s out number two. Back to the leadoff spot in the Braves lineup. And here is Ronald Akuna Jr. He’s 0 for one. in the air right side. Burlson on the move and that’ll do it. One left for Atlanta, but they lead it one to nothing. Back here in St. Louis, here’s the third base, Nolan Aronado. Owen Arnonado rolled softly, but that goes foul. And that one fouled off. Foul ball. Still 0 and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, that pitch wasn’t even close to being a strike. And that just goes to show you how defensive hitters can become when they’re up against an 02 count. You’re just hoping for a mistake somewhere near the zone that you can get the bat to. right there. He was clearly anxious. He was swinging when the ball left the hand. Yeah, that’s fouled off. The one is outside and it’s a ball and a strike. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Just indecisive in that at bat. He couldn’t commit to the slider. Tried to sit in between. Just not able to put the bat on the ball. Joho next up for the Cardinals the other way. Alb’s over to first. St. Louis goes down in order. Redbirds down quietly. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. Back here in St. Louis. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. Here is Matt Olsen and that one is in for a strike. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Sunny Gray up and loosening in the pen. Romero the lefty warming up as well. There’s a high chopper. Aronado throw not in time. It’s an unlikely infield single. It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right there. Now, we’ll see if they can make something happen. Riley in the box again takes the strike. Olsen on at first. Nobody out. Swings through that one for strike two. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat and down on strikes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. We’re going to take a look at the pitch sequence of that at bat. And the thing to notice are the pitch locations. Every single one of them on the edges of the strike zone. And as a hitter, that can be pretty frustrating because you don’t expect a pitcher to be able to make quality pitches one after another like that. And so those are tough spots to do damage in a great demonstration of pitch command. And it got him a punch out that time. Murphy stands in now and watches strike one. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. Line drive and this might be trouble. And that’s going to get into the corner. Olsen around second headed for third. Lead runner holds to third. So two runners in scoring position and just one out. He was over that one. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Miles Michael done for the afternoon. And he’s on the hook for the runners at second and third. So looking for some help there. Back in a minute. Now pitching. New pitcher for the Cardinals, Sunny Gray. Huge opportunity to add on to the lead for this offense right now, but we’ll see what he has to say about that. He’s going to have to make some great pitches to work out of this jam, though. Two on, one out. Proofar getting ready to hit now. A screamer into the outfield. Plays it on a bounce and it eats him up. One run across. She’ll still come home with it. It’s off the mark and he scores. and they’re up by three. Picks himself up a couple of got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. One down. Here’s Marcelo Zuna for two in this one. There’s a swing and a drive into the bullpen and gone. He flexes his power with that swing. It’s five zip. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive. And it paid off. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. So, one out, nobody on. Now in for the Braves. Azy Albies. First pitch and he just misses. One down. Base is empty. He swings and fouls one off. swing and a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Having himself a really nice game at the plate. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. So now to the plate for Atlanta, Michael Harris II swing at a highf fly ball left field. Nukebar makes the catch for the out. Now batting shorts stop Nick Allen. And now the shorts stop Nick Allen. He’s grounded out a couple of times. Sunny Gray checks on the runner. Albz dives back in. And that one popped in the air left field. Nukebar puts it away and that’s the third out. They get four runs on five hits. No errors and leave one. Nine one and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Braves five and the Cardinals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John with Chris Singleton in the booth. And leading off the bottom of the six, Victor Scott. St. Louis. And that one upstairs. We haven’t seen a break in the weather and the umpires might be forced to make a decision soon. Yeah, I think so, Boo. I mean, everyone looking and wondering when they’re going to stop play. It definitely feels close. This is a very important inning here. After scoring all those runs, you want your pitcher to come out and just mow them down. The offense has worked hard. It’s shut down inning time. That’s outside and the count. Two and one. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Swings through that and it’s a strikeout. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. And here’s the St. Louis leadoff man, Brendan Donovan. One for two misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. And now a little barking back towards the umpire. clearly thought he got that outside corner on what was a pretty big pitch. Sometimes that only makes it worse for you moving forward, but it can also open up that location in the future if the umpire thinks there’s a chance that he missed it. Here’s a two- Oh, that’s off the plate. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. The Braves leading by five here in the bottom of the six and he walked him four. Definitely lost the handle during that sequence. Four pitches for the walk and that last one didn’t even threaten the zone. Might want to go talk to him. Mason win next up for the Cardinals. outside low and that is ball one. Next offering is fouled back. The one-1 is fouled off. Donovan over at first with one away. Check swing and he held up. Ground ball left side and that’s just foul. breaking ball in there. Got him looking. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. Alec Burlson. Next up for the Cardinals, Burlington. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Two outs. One ball. Squirts away a little bit. Got him. Picks up strikeout number seven. The Cards leave one. It’s 5 nothing. And we’re back. We go to the top of the seventh. And now it’s Ronald Akuna Jr. Gray measures 5′ 10 in. More than 100 career wins on the mound. A former first round pick back in 2011. Pitch is in there. Strike one. You know, these Braves digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. A handful have turned into outs, but of the balls they’ve put in play, 10 have been line drives. I say keep barreling the ball and good things will happen. Don’t let that get you frustrated. And the sweeper misses. And the two-1 hammered but foul. Shoots a line, drives single into right center. So a runner aboard to start the inning. Hitting is really easy for some guys. One thing that I can see already, his bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. That one lifted to left. Nukebar sizes this one up, pulls it down, and he makes the catch. And there’s one down. Here comes Austin Riley. 0 for three in this one. Riley, there’s a strike. There it was. Oh, here it is. Hit it. He gets a take. Gets ahead in a count. Runner on the goal. Pitch misses. saves at second and he easily steals the bag. Clearly not content with the lead they’re working with right now and I like that. I don’t think you can get comfortable with a fiveun lead in today’s game and now they’ve got a good chance of adding on. Runner at second here, one gone. Headed towards the corner. Bounces over the wall in foul ground. It’s an automatic double as a run scores. Oh, that was a great job of letting that runner steal second base, get in the scoring position, come through with the base knock. You add a run. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Sunny Gray will depart and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching, Andre Palante gets handed the rock out of the pen. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. Now here is Shawn Murphy, one for three and first offering is fouled off. One out and a runner at second here in the top half of inning number seven. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. That’s that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast ball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Proofar stands in with two away as he takes a ball. And there’s a ball. There’s the strike of the knees. Two and one now. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch in the air center field. Scott under it, squeezes it and that is that. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors and a man left midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. Braves six and the Cardinals nothing. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Daniel de los Santos. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. He tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Here comes Wilson Cont. Wilson Contrarus. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one activity in the bullpen. Boston Cox getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Swang and a miss. He can live up in the zone all game if hitters will chase it. That’s just too much velocity. Hitters got to look down in the zone. And that one fouled off. One and two here. Just misses with that one. Really good take, especially with two strikes. That one down the line and it goes just fouled. Spoils that one and it remains two and two and Wilson down on strikes. I’m not sure that was the exact location the pitcher wanted, but it worked. He got the swing and miss. Andiel, I’m sure a bit of sigh of relief after seeing that one go through the zone. Nar, Lars Nbar. Next up for the Cardinals and first offering is fouled off. Little bit low. in there for a strike at the top of the zone. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he’s faced in this one getting straight to work. Man, it’s talked about a lot, but relievers are just so electric these days. These aren’t fun at bats if you’re a hitter, and I’m so glad I’m retired. Aronado in the box now. No balls in a strike. There’s a swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes. Good job to fight that one off. Two down. Nobody on and one and two. Two strike. very dominant with that fast ball inside. Hitters going to be conscious of that. Now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the mound. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the seventh. Goes down looking for the strikeout and he strikes out the side in the seventh. Nothing doing there for St. Louis. Still up against a six nothing deficit. Back here in St. Louis now the left fielder Marcelo Palante back to work. That’s in there. And ring him off, says Patrick Johnson. That’s a strike out. Now batting. And here comes Aussie Alby’s to the dish. He’s already homered in this game. That misses the zone. And that’s ball one. Ball one. No strikes. Nope. That’s down on the ground to the left and foul ball. Rips that one center field. No trouble here. puts it away for the out. Two down. Two outs, space is empty. And next for Atlanta, Michael Harris the second and first offering is fouled off. Backed off the plate that time. The Braves up big in this one and we’re in the top of the eighth. Just missed and he hits a ground ball right side. Gorman throws on to first and it’s a one, two, three inning and the Braves go down quietly, but they’re on top by a count of six to nothing. Back here at Bush Stadium, bottom of the inning. Now it’s the second baseman, Nolan Gorman. Nolan Gorman. swing and a ball hammered left field. That’s back there. And that one is off the wall. Safe at second with a leadoff double with that fast ball. Even though it’s high velocity, you’ve got to live on the outer edges. When it’s right on a tee, right down the middle, professional hitters are not going to have a problem turning it around. So man aboard next to hit Yel Po and the slider just misses the 10 fast ball for a strike. Gorman leads off second with nobody out. caught him looking for the K. I’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or, you know, it was a ball, whatever, but just the location with that velocity. It’s hard enough to even if the velocity is not great, but that velocity, that location, tip your cap and stepping in for the Cardinals, Victor Scott. Fast ball the inside corner for a strike. late with the swing there. It might be time to choke up a little bit, get that front foot down early, maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. One out and a runner at second. up and in. And the count one and two. That’s inside. Two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Now batting the designated hitter, Brendan. And now the DH, Brendan Donovan. Missed with a change up and it’s one and0. Counts one and0. Runner at second. Two down here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. One ball, one strike. The 1-1 is fouled off. That’s down and in. in the dirt. Full countdown in there. Got him looking and that one split the plate. So, one left for the Cardinals. They still find themselves down six zip. New inning getting started. Here’s the shorts stop at the plate. Nick Allen. Ripped on a line. And there’s one down. Now batting rightielder. And here is Ronald Auna Jr. Not your prototypical leadoff guy. Gets on base. Yes. But also some power and first offering is fouled off. gets him to chase after that one. Wow, no fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch. This one in the air. Contras under it. makes the grab for the second out. Up next for Atlanta, first baseman Matt Olsen. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Matt Olsen. And that’s outside. Ball one. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. And that’s downstairs. And it’s 2 and 0. Hey, two balls, one strike. Next offering is fouled back. on the ground to third. Sends it across to first and that is that. So they go quietly there. 234 set to hit in the bottom of the ninth. Braves six and the Cardinals nothing. Now pitching new pitcher now Raphael Montero. and he’s got a nice lead to work with. So, he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Now, it’s the short stop. Mason win. The shorts stop. Mason win. Pitch misses. Ball one. 10. Popped foul out of play off to the right. That one is absolutely bel. This one could be trouble around first and hustling for second. And he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. So man aboard, Alec Burlson. Next up for the Cardinals. That one finds the zone. Going one. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the last half of inning number nine. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Quickly down 02 in the count. I think you got to choke up a little bit. Spread out the feet. You don’t know what the velocity or the location of this next pitch is going to be. That one misses. Going to count one and two. That’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. That misses the zone and the count’s even at two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another pitch misses. Three and two now. Right side. Albees slings to first. One out. Bottom of the ninth. Now batting first baseman. Wilson. Wilson. Contras now up to the plate. 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. And the first pitch misses for ball one. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. Just missed. Runner on to third. One gone. And that’s too high. And ball four to a board. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging it something out of his own. And up next for St. Louis, Lars Nbar. Ground ball could be two offbalance feed. There’s one out. A double play to end it. A little sigh of relief for the pitcher there, ending the ball game with a nice double play. You always love when you can get two for one, especially when it wraps up the ball game. Nice win for this team today. 6 nothing is how this one ends. for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon. What the move?
