PNC Open Ice: The Right Fit

so this is coming to an end mo Ranton and the Dallas Stars are closing in on an extension eight years $12 million AAV and Miko Ranton will be traded to the Dallas Stars dallas is a big winner in this i mean getting Ranton the reality is you don’t get top players in the league that move mid-season you You just don’t and you almost never get them moving inside a division to a rival what a bold use of your advantages and assets and just a marvelous bit of managing by Jim Nil how you going Jason hi welcome how are you how was it it was good long flight but it’s a whirlwind it’s a long day crazy uh couple weeks for sure and and a month or so so I’m so happy to be here you know and and locked in for for 8 years dallas was better fit for me when the official word does come down and you realize that that is going to happen and he’s going to meet the team in Edmonton that night it starts to turn real really quickly this is nuts i would say I’d played in all the positions but mostly right winger and offensive minded player you know more of a playmaker play a good 200 foot game main uh job for me is try to help the team uh offensively 40 to 50 goal man as elite playmaker as you’re going to find i was fanboy on him when he was with the Avalanche just such a velvety playmaker along with the size and the power and everything I heard from Dallas was was positive tone so you know a lot of good young core players that are really good players and coaching coaching staff is really good uh management that was why uh Dallas was the team that I wanted to play for what are you guys waiting for got Ro Hints Wyatt Johnston you’ve got Melro Hkin you’ve got Jakeer on long-term contracts Jason Robertson Thomas Harley team control for a few more years and you just start to go down the list played against Dallas a lot so I I spend a lot of time here um I know it’s a great city with with just a great fan base to play in front of it’s been always a tough building to play in most mostly because the team is good but also the fans are always into it and you know I’m excited for the future the way Jim Nil and his staff have built this thing they have not mortgaged the future at all mo Rantin kind of checks every bit of that me and Rupe are are same age so we played national team together growing up and under 20s we won the world juniors together so I knew him the most and and with Essa I played one one of the world championships together but I think playing against them even Miro then seen him post game when I’ve seen the all the other fins so so I kind of knew everybody when I came in when certain players future is undecided or you know contract is ending or something you know there’s always talks i can’t deny that but things change quick like they did you know a couple weeks later I was teammate with Essa and Bro so it’s it’s kind of funny just the history of Finnish players yer was a big part of the team that won the cup here you know his name is in the rafters in the American Airlines Center so he’s it’s it’s great to see you know fins have had success here and all the fins that are here now been here for for a while and 7 weeks ago he was playing for Colorado on a cupcending team he goes to a division rival he’s on the other side i mean if you would have proposed this on January 1st that he would come back in March for this game wearing a Star sweater you’d be committed i think it was always one thing that you think about when you play for a long time in a certain team and then when it’s the first game back and then it ended up being really quick two weeks after or even less so uh obviously had a good time in Colorado and emotional first came back but uh but yeah it was good to do that as soon as possible i talk sometimes here they do like fake pinches to like time and maybe soft chip soft chip but let’s talk a lot about they’re going to be battling each other for a long time and and that makes this one kind of a a one-of-a-kind return when I had the video tribute obviously it was positive note which was which was really um grateful for that you [Applause] know all the years that I spent there and the fans had a good positive uh response which was nice to see and and uh but I understand it’s also a rival team of theirs so so now it’s going to turn for He will pick it up beat it in front now robertson scores play good job [Applause] after Mo ranted and made the play the star strike first [Music] what a way for Rantin to get his 400th career NHL assist he does it here in Denver nico Rantin in his prime what he brings what that trade signifies the championship window they are better today and they are better tomorrow it’s it’s great you know it’s mentally for sure easier when you don’t have to think about contract you don’t have to think about where you’re going to play and and I’m grateful for that for that and and happy happy for the future you know now I know that I’m going to be a dollar star and

“I’m so happy to be here… Dallas is a better fit for me.” 🫎

Mikko Rantanen join the Dallas Stars after he were traded from Carolina to Dallas on March 7, 2025 and plays his first game back in Colorado.

  1. Idk what Pete was thinking. Last game of season, doesn't change anything for anyone in the league no matter the outcome and hurts Robo. Guys! Stay healthy, please! My heart can't keep taking this 😢
