Phillies vs. Padres Game Highlights (7/12/25) | MLB Highlights
Going to need two straight to win the final series before the all star break. After dropping game 14 to 2 last night, Padres, they’re looking to win their third in a row for the first time since the first three games of June. They’re going to send yu Darvish to the hill today making just his second start of the year missing most of the season with an elbow issue. Darvish went three and two thirds innings in his first start on Monday and will likely be limited to about 75 to 80 pitches today for the Padres six pitches to each of the first two hitters. And now here Harper with a man aboard goes the other way here to the shifted infield Machado to Bogart to first in time for the 56 to 3 double play and Darvish faces the minimum in the first. This guy is the odds on favorite right now to win the National League Cy Young award. Wheeler has a 1 to 25, a in his last 10 starts. Zack Wheeler has thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings versus San Diego dating back to 2023 five pitches to get the first two batters. And now here’s Manny Machado who is on his way to his seventh all star game bouncing ball left side deep in the hole is Turner and an eight pitch 1 to 2 to 3 inning for Wheeler in the first. And Alec bone punked by the first offering here to start the second inning 22 to Castellanos gets away from Martin Maldonado. That’s been a problem for him this season. And on to second base goes, Alec Bohm, a man in scoring position early for Philadelphia pitch to Castellanos reaches out Darvish behind the back is able to knock it down, is going to come in to score to give Philadelphia the lead on to second goes Castellanos Darvish nearly made a spectacular play Then tried to make a play out of it and Then it ends up being a run and an error. Big break for the Phillies. Castellanos ends up at second. Here’s real Muto with Castellanos at second one out. Real Muto smacks it towards the gap left center field, Castellanos is going to score. It’s going to be 2 to 0. Philadelphia and Real Muto who had a tough stretch in June is off to a great start in the month of July and he extends the Phillies lead here in the second. The Phillies in these two spots 6 to 7 in the order. It has been a real struggle with men in scoring position this year and Jt delivers a hit there and zack Wheeler hasn’t needed a whole lot to make his performances stand up. He staked to a lead as he deals to Gavin sheets. The former Chicago White Sox is having a fabulous year in San Diego in the air down the right field line that will bounce and roll to the wall, pick it up with the bare hand on the warning track and gavin seats at second base with a hard hit leadoff double. Here’s young Jackson Merrill all star as a rookie last season, he had 24 home runs. He is in what is a 5 to 53 stretch at the plate? Now he lifts one the other way sending Kepler back to the warning track right first home run since May the 27th and this game is tied at two and the Padres pop on top of Wheeler and the Phils and tie this thing up 2 to 2 1st home run in 35 games. Think about how good that feels for him. Wheeler has missed more spots already than he did in his last start against the Padres. The entire innings. Three extra base hits for San Diego on Zack Wheeler here in the bottom of the second. Just like that. The go ahead run is in scoring position. Wheeler trying to get out of this inning with no more damage done. 2 to 2 and maldonado goes the other way and dumps one down in the right field Conor on his way home and the light hitting catcher comes through to give Sandy the lead. That’s Maldonado’s first career hit against zack Wheeler as we get set to start the bottom of the fourth inning. You see Edmundo Sousa has checked in at third base for Alec Bone. We wonder if this had anything to do with being hit by that pitch back in the second inning. He did come back out for another at bat was playing defense is a left rib cage contusion which makes sense with the hit by pitch. Bottom of the order has done pretty good stuff for San Diego. Brooks is aboard with one down four. Martin Maldonado who had an RB I single back in the second which gave San Diego the lead and he checked his swing. No, he didn’t. One around says Bruce Maldonado strikes out two. Gone. Here is Tatis 0 to 2 tonight with a ground out and a strikeout looking his fourth full count of the game. 3 to 2 pitch is waved on and missed on a splitter. Retires the side. He’s fanned Tatis twice the fifth. We go 3 to 2. San Diego and the bottom of the order turns it over. Yu Darvish is dealing with two on and nobody out. And the top of the order coming Wandy Peralta starting to stir in the San Diego bullpen. Now Philadelphia a chance to tie this game and maybe put together a big inning midway through, he skies one to left carrying sheets back to the warning track and he’s got it for out number one. The runners bluff but not go and a key first out for Darvish. Here is big bopping Kyle Schwarber who hit his 30th home run of the year last night fastball at the bottom of the zone for called strike three. There is the second strikeout for Darvish. He gets a big second out on his 74th pitch. Schult is going to try to get Darvish in line for the win. He’s going to try to get through five innings with the light bullpen behind Darvish 3 to 2 outside. He lost Harper and the bases loaded and Mike Schult still in the dugout and Mike Schult is not moving and now remember Alec Bone would be in this spot but he left the game after he got hit by the pitch in the 2nd, 1st chance for Edmundo Sousa at the plate, Sosa on the ground to short and through this game is tied. Kepler scores. Here comes Marsh sheets. His throw not in time gets away. Both runners trying to advance throw it to third. Everybody is safe and Philadelphia has taken a 4 to 3 lead and Mundo Sosa off the bench on the board and Phillies got the lead. Darvish cannot get through five and he’s done for the day high drama in the fifth inning, an infield hit for Rutto one out and one on. What a snare by Machado throwing a second to Bogard first is in time. Oh, what a play, a two time gold glover still getting it done at third, another 5 to 6 to 3, double plays started by Machado today as we thought Zack Wheeler will try to finish off six innings today. That will bring up Jackson Merrill who tied the game at two back in the second with his first home run in 35 games. Merrill drills one deep right field back Castellanos. How about, how about a tie game on the 1/100 Wheeler pitch of the day, Jackson Merrill had been broke for more than a month and he has struck zack Wheeler twice. We’re tied again. Jackson Merrill had said, I haven’t done Blake at the plate as of late, but he knew that he was struggling as we told you, mike Schult has been very supportive. He said everybody goes through these and today it’s one of those breakouts games that every player who’s going through a slump hopes for San Diego’s bullpen is a little lighter than usual with their four horsemen essentially down. So it’s going to be the rookie David Morgan who last pitched as the opener in Sunday’s game against Texas huge moment in this game tied at 42 guys in scoring position, bouncing ball charging in Machado cuts off board, got him in time and this game is still tied. There’s that great arm. Adam Manny Machado has made some key defensive plays today. This was close at first but got Sosa in time 4 to 4 at the stretch in San Diego. And the go ahead run for San Diego is aboard in the bottom of the seventh 0 to 2 was hit by a pitch back in the third inning. Swings lines it into center field that will get down to the base hit Fernando going to try to go first to third and Marsh’s face and he goes to second back to back one out singles in the bottom of the seventh inning. And the Padres and the go ahead run 90 ft away. Here we go. Romano trying to bounce back after the heartbreak in San Francisco Machado to the plate. The steadiest of the Padres all season with the go ahead run 90 ft away and a tie game in the seventh and manny swings sends it in the air to right field towards the corner. Casto is backing up plenty deep to score. He makes the catch Fernando will tag and score sack fly. Manny Machado and the Padres are back ahead 5 to 4 in the seven playing the game scoreboard dictates your options. Got a fastball up, drove it plenty deep enough to right field and drive in the run. The left hander Yuki Matsui is in the game for a second straight night and he’s facing a pitch hitter, Otto Kemp off the bench 0 to 1 as a pinch hitter runner at first is Jt Rom Muto. Two outs in the eighth swung on punch to right and that a base hit around second headed for third is he’ll make it there without a throw and Otto Kemp with a pinched hit, single puts runners on the corners for Brandon Marsh. He’s had some good swings today to come through here in the clutch in the bottom of the eighth inning. Marsh pops it up. Matt Sui pumps the fist. Bogart squeezes and the Padres hold on to the lead in the eighth. They leave the tying run stranded at third with the bullpen worn down. Su stepping up Jeremiah Estrada pitching for a third straight night. In fact, this is the fourth time in the last five nights that this excellent but taxed bullpen has turned to Estrada top of the order for the Phillies Turner swings and misses strike three had him way out in front of a splitter and out number one in the top of the ninth inning. Now kyle Schwarber left handed batter Schwarber drew a walk against Darvish in the first inning but zero for three on the night three and one to Schwarber. Here’s the pitch on the way. Schwarber swings sends it in the air to left field straight away deep and playable Johnson there in front of the warning track and he makes the catch for the second out of the inning. Here is Harper down one in the ninth against Estrada first pitch swinging ground ball to first backhanded by he will race to the bag in time and the ball game is over Jeremiah Estrada out of the bullpen works a 12 3/9 inning and on a big day for Jackson Merrill, the Padres see saw their way to a 54 win over the Phils.

Let’s go for the sweep!!! LFGSD
Since April 18th; Zach Wheeler has had an ERA of 1.67, with a total of 17 earned runs. 6 of those runs came in 1 game against the Braves. Today the boys made him go 6 IP with 4 ER. Jackson Merrill just went at a potential Cy Young winner. He is back!!!
41st 👍! This was a well earned TEAM win! The Phillies are a really good team, no doubt. A win like this is what brings a team together! #LFGSD!
Great game!
Way to go PADRES! Jackson Merrill may have snapped out of his slump.

Bouta half a strong 2nd half ❤
A great win! A team win.
Sad to see Yu Darvish having so little success, though. But there's still time for him to find it.
To take a series from the Philadelphia Phillies is a big deal. They're at the top of a very strong division in the National League, and are one of baseball's best rosters.
6:05 7:25 manny👏
