MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jul 12, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

So, almost ready to get underway. And for the Cardinals here this afternoon, it’s Miles Michael. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. First pitch 116. That one back up the middle and it gets through. So, runner aboard to start the inning. batting second, first base. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from. And there was just no one there to knock it down. And now Matt Olsen up to hit. Another solid power season. And ball one. Runner at first with no outs here. I think it’s very important to establish the inside part of the plate early. Sets the tone for the rest of the game. Here’s the pitch to Olsen. And a foul ball makes the count two and one. Next offering is fouled back. s down on strikes. Couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball at the knees. Just ripped a page out of the Greg Maddox playbook. Throw that pitch at the hip and just watch it jump back over the inside part of the plate. Tell you what, you are baffled expecting that to almost hit you and then end up as a called strike. So, here’s Riley now. Michael throws to first. Akuna dives back in. That clips the zone. That’s strike one. swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Makes the grab. Two down. Here’s the Atlanta Braves lineup. This is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drawing walks, Chris. So, we’ll probably see a very patient approach from them. Yeah, Boo. And that’s often uh what leads to a lot of runs scored. You get runners on base, you work that pitch count up for the opposing pitchers, and then you take advantage when they make mistakes. Once you get into that bullpen, you could tell that everyone up and down this lineup just comes in with a great plan of attack, a lot of patience, just like you said. And that one fouled off. Two outs. Akuna runs. There’s a ball and safe. He’s safe. It’s a stolen base. When your catcher’s not a great thrower, you have to do a better job at controlling the running game. And that’s throwing over. that’s stepping off, doing whatever you can to try to keep that base Steelers rhythm off. Well, they weren’t able to do it right there. They’re going to have to make some type of adjustment. Our players are going to be running all game. Akuna stands at second with two gone. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Headed for the plate. The throw in. He’ll score and it’s one- nothing. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. So, two down. Proofar climbs in on that left side. There’s the strike. That clips a corner. All you got to do is concentrate and execute this next pitch. Get yourself out of the jam, back into the dugout. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Gets to it on to first in time. The two-3 strikeout ends the inning, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in St. Louis and on the mound today, a guy who will give them innings. Spencer Strider. Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So, when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. Brendan Donovan leading things off and takes a strike. Now one and one. That’s good pitch there. Had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat, you jog back to the dugout. Nope. Three balls, one strike. That’s ripped. Base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. win. Mason Win getting ready to hit. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Can make it a fivegame hitting streak with a knock in this one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And that’s hammered into right field. That’s a base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. He was all over that one. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull it off. Let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Alec Burlson. Next up for the Cardinals and that’s outside Singi. Maybe some nerves getting the best of him in the first. Well, it’s hard to know exactly if it’s nerves or not, but he just doesn’t have it right now. Those hitters on the other side, they’re going to say it’s nerves and use that as a competitive edge to try to jump on him even more. Next offering misses and now two and 0. And there’s a ball. Fouls one away. And now three and two. He fouls it off. Will do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And a swing and a miss. And that is a big first out. Just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there. Not much to it. And I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location. Those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say, “How’d I miss that?” But you know, it happens. Wilson Contrarus now up to the plate. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. Strider deals one ball, one in the dirt. Nothing happening on the bases though. That’s in there. And the count one and two. One ball. Runners at first and second with one gone. Strike three and that’s two in a row. came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Lars Nukebar swings through it for strike one. Well, a come and get me fast ball right there. He didn’t look ready for the velocity. I think it’d be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here in the dirt. Runners stay where they are. That’s ball one. sliced hard but fouled down the left side. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Now one missed. Donovan on second. Win on first with two down. up and in. And it’s three and two. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. That ball is foul and the pressure is building. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. Back here at Bush Stadium. Top of the second. Here comes Ozuna up to the plate. Michael back to work. Breaking ball inside. One and0. That’s ball. Patrick Johnson calling the balls in strikes. Pretty standard zone for Johnson. Sometimes he might get a little jumpy, a little excited to expand the zone, but usually you at least feel like the pitcher on the mound is earning it. And that’s important because you got to make players earn it. And that one popped to short win and it’s caught for the good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. And here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish. First pitch not close right through there for a strike. One and one. Just missed. One out. Base is empty. That misses three and one. Three balls, one strike. And that’s outside of his ball four. And he’s on base. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Michael Harris II stands in now and watches strike one. You one and that one upstairs. Ball one man at first. One away. The one-1 is fouled off. fights that one away. Still one and two. Good eye right there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. That’s out to center field. Scott settles underneath it. Two away. Batting ninth shortstop, Nick Allen. Nick Allen. Next up for the Braves. The shorts stop takes a ball. swing and a highf fly ball left field. Nbar should have this one. Nabs it and that’ll do it. One left for Atlanta, but they’re on top one- nothing. Back in St. Louis as the Cardinals come up to hit here in the last of the second, bottom of the second. Here’s Nolan Aronado. Nolan Aronado at the plate. Aronado, guy who delivers big time power at the dish and will probably go down as one of the greatest defensive third baseman of all time. In the air, left side puts it away for the outd. Here’s Nolan Gorman. Gorman Strider out there on the mound for this one. And he’s a guy who had a really impressive college career, but needed Tommy John’s surgery while playing for Clemson. Just missed. You know, Boog Strider spent time with the sports psychologist at Clemson while rehabbing from his surgery. They talked a lot about the concept of purpose and the importance of having a defined goal for everything you do. You know, it’s something Strider now preaches himself. Bouncer to second. fires to first in time. Batting eight, catcher number 63. Here’s the catcher, Johel Poso. First pitch misses. Two out. Base is empty. And that one hit to first and it stays fair around first. Digging for two and he’s in with a stand up double. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Now up for St. Louis, Victor Scott. Fast ball for a strike. Tying run in scoring position. Bottom half of inning number two. Rip to short. Throw on to Olsen. That’s the inning. The Cards leave one. still behind by a count of one to nothing. And we’re back now. It’s the right fielder, Ronald Aun Jr. Aunia Jr. So, here’s an interesting fact about Akunia. He has the most home runs at Truis Park. He passed Freddy Freeman for the top spot in Oh, and a nice sliding stop. Fires to first and they get the out. As an infielder, you have to be ready for anything in that spot. It required going to the ground, getting a little dirty, and making a strong throw for the out. Great play. And now it’s Matt Olsen’s turn to hit. Struck out looking his first time. And there’s a foul ball. got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. No balls. Two strikes. One down. Base is empty. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Hot shot to third. Throws across the diamond and a couple of quick outs. Now batting third base Austin Riley. Here’s Austin Riley. Popped out and foul ground first time through. in there and it’s 0 and one. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. Started after it. Appeal to first. Did not go. That one off the mark. Two and two. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. Swan on Beltton back there. And that ball is out of here. That one felt good. Home run number 15 on the year. It’s two nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Two outs, nobody on. And now the catcher comes up to hit Shawn Murphy. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. inside just missed. Close pitch there and he’s kind of wondering where it missed. You know, getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from at bat to at bat. Kicks and fires. That’s in ball two. That one to first. Dives and he can’t hang on. Still able to get it there in time. And they do get the out. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now a two nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. ready to go for the last half of the inning. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Brendan Donovan. Donovan. Donovan goes 6’1, 28 years old, and he was born in Germany. Swing and a base hit. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Mason Win next up for the Cardinals. One for one with a single so far. Just missed. Ball one, no strikes. That one misses. Right. Down two and 0. Nobody out. Runner at first. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Left field. Pretty well struck. Bangs off the wall. And that’s a double. Well, when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. So digging in, Alec Burlson. Golden opportunity right here. Swinging a foul out of play. Two in scoring position. Nobody out here in the last half of the third. check swing and he went and that’s strike two and two on the ground out to short tosses to first. That’s out number one and a run comes in to score. Here comes Wilson Contrus. He struck out swinging at his first at swing and a highf fly ball down the right field line. Under it is a to make the grab. Grounder tags at second and he’s up to third safely with two gone. Now batting left fielder Lars. So up next, Lars Nbar. I know we’re still early in the stages of this game, but this at bat has the potential of being a difference maker. You’ve got to stay calm in the box. Ball one. No strikes. breaking ball misses down and away. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. Two outs the other way and it gets by him. The run scores from third. It’s 22. around second now as they still don’t have it. Well, we’re starting over again. All tied up. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing, he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. So now it’s going Aronado fly to left his first time. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. Pitch misses and that’s ball two. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. Highf fly ball out towards left field. Ozuna running hard and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. And that one fouled off. Just misses there. That’s a really good take. Nolan Gorman in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Check swing now. will look down to first and he went around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. They get two and draw even again. Three innings complete. We are tied 22 and welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Jurgson Proar. and a foul ball. You know, these Braves doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well and he couldn’t hold back. He’s run up on strikes. Here’s Marcelo Zuno 0 for one so far. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. One down, base is empty. There’s a swing and a drive. Burlson going back and it hits the fence around second now. Going for three. The relay throw and the throws offline. Safe at third. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. A lot of times in today’s game, right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that, but he hit that one pretty well. And if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel, it’s out of here easily. But there’s nothing wrong with the extra bases right there. One down, runner at third. Azie Alb’s up to the plate. Walked his first time and that one fouled off. One away with a runner at third. Top half of inning number four. And that’s in the dirt. I got one ball, one strike. swing and a miss as he was out front. One ball, two strike. Good job to fight that one off. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Fights it off. You’ll see another and the one two misses to even the count. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s some times where a pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have high in the air out to right. Burlson sizes this one up, drops into the glove, runner tags for home. He’ll score on the sack fly. 32. They take the lead. Sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things. Keep it simple. Runner third, less than two outs. Put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack fly. And first off is fouled off. He didn’t want to give up that run, but he did. Got the fly ball. Sack fly out. Now it’s time to attack these other guys. Get your team back in the dugout. And it’s fouled away. Two down. Nobody on. Ball one there. Two strike. That one missing inside. And there’s the ball. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. It’s been a little bit of a shaky inning, but he’s still in a good spot to get out of this thing without giving up any more runs. He’s just got to turn the page and go after this next guy. Michael throws to first and he’s back in safely. Allen in the box now. No balls in a strike. That’s off the mark. One and one. Blind drive, base hit right field. They stopped the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Now that right fielder Donald Junior nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly. Akuna in the box for the third time today as he takes that one off the plate. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. Action in the pen down there. Sunny Gray, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Palante, a hardthrowing right-hander up as well. That one finds the zone. Going to count one and two. First and second, two down. Hit in the air. Center field. Scott under this one. And that is that one run in the inning, but they leave two. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Braves three and the Cardinals two. Back here in St. Louis, here’s the second base, Nolan Gorman. Second baseman, Nolan Gorman. Ground ball. Austin Riley. Riley fires to first. One out in the bottom of the fourth. Now batting number 63, Johel Poso digs in now. Doubled his first time up. Right through there for a strike. That one catches the corner for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole, he’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Pretty much textbook pitching for the three pitch K right there. Jumped ahead 02 on two pitches he didn’t want to go after at the plate. Then knowing he’s going to be a little more aggressive trying to protect, he expands just out of the zone where he couldn’t do anything with it. He gets the strike out and keeps the pitches thrown to a minimum. Very nice. Digging in. It’s the speedy outfielder Victor Scott. Breaking ball misses down and away. Counts one and0. Next offering is in for a strike. popped up. Allen on the move. Brings it in for the third out. Nothing doing there for St. Louis. They trail it 3-2. Now pitching. New pitcher for the Cardinals, Sunny Gray. Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone, makes hitters earn their way on base, and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes. Here is Matt Olsen. First baseman, Matt Olsen. Check swing called strike. ball one. Next offering is fouled back. Next one misses and the count is even. Two and two. Three balls, two strikes. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. Struck him out looking. Now the batter now Austin Riley. He’s already homerred here in this one. Just missed. Base is empty. One away. And we’re at the top of the fifth. And there’s a base hit to left. Up next for Atlanta, catcher Shawn Murphy. So here’s Murphy now. He’s built his reputation as one of the top framers in the sport. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Oh, that’s inside. There’s the strike. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. gets a piece and stays alive. Great swing and solid contact. Just a little too quick. He’s got to stay back a little longer. That one misses and the count’s full. And ball four, two aboard. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the wall. Very gritty. First and second, one out. Jurgson Proar next up for the Braves. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. There’s the strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there in the mound. And that one is in for a strike. One. Way to lay off that pitch down. And a ball leaving Zown. One out. Runners at first and second. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Two down. Marcelo Zuna coming up to hit. One for two. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One, no. Two aboard, two outs. Next offering is in for a strike. Two on, two outs, and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. Two outs, couple of base runners at first and second. Got him. Third out. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. We head to the bottom of the fifth now. Brendan Donovan. Brendan Donovan. Strider back to work inside corner and that’s called a strike. Line to second. snagged on the bounce. Alb’s over to first in time and the lead off hitter retired in the fifth. Short stop Mason win. Mason win next up for the Cardinals. And the first pitch misses for ball one. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. And another ball. That’s off the inside corner. And now three and 0. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. Check swing called strike. And now a full count. 32. This one popped up right side. Albz hauls it in for the owl. And there’s two down. Now batting right fielder. And up next for St. Louis, Alec Burlson. Inside. Yeah, that is ball one. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away inside corner for a strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Just misses with that one. Two balls, two strikes. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Down to the dirt, swing, and a miss. That completes the strikeout. Inning over. Three up, three down for him. There we’re through five. It’s the Braves three and the Cardinals two. Back here at Bush Stadium, top of the sixth inning. Here is Aussie Alb’s up to hit. Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center. Back there onto the track and he makes the catch. Now batting the center fielder, Michael Harris. Here’s the center fielder, Michael Harris II. He’s 0 for one. Check swing, but he went too far. That’s strike one. And that’s downstairs and outside. There’s the swing and a miss. Threw that fast right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. That one almost got him. Down is three and two. One down. Base is empty. That’s ball four. Tried another sweeper but couldn’t find his own. You get a walk and you get a walk. Everyone gets a walk. Boo. Nick Allen. Next up for the Braves, Allen having a lot more success on the road this season. That one hammered center field way back there. See you later. He made him pay for that one and they add a pair. It’s 52. Chris, we knew this moment was coming for him soon. Yep. And it finally came. We knew it was only a matter of time before he’s going to connect with one just like that. Just too good of a hitter at the plate. Boo. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. Back to the leadoff spot in the Braves lineup. And here is Ronald Akuna Jr. Right through there for a strike. Akuna 27 years old and he was born in Venezuela. swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Makes the grab for the second out. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run. Not allowing it to stay in the head, but going to work at the next hitter. And a tough one at that. Two down, base is empty. And next for Atlanta, Matt Olsen 0 for three in this one. Strike one. Next offering is fouled back. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. That’s down and in. Ball one. One ball, two strikes to count. Fouls it back with two strikes in the air pretty deep out to center field. And that is that. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s 52. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Well, we go bottom six. And here’s the first baseman, Wilson Contrus. Bounding ball here. Rolls foul. You know, these Cardinals, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve hit seven line drives already. And even though some of them have been for outs, there’s And it gets fired. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s going to get to second with nobody out. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. Fast pretty much middle middle. And that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So, no surprise he put a great swing on it. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Nukebar the next to hit. And that’s off the inside edge. Ball one. Let’s go. And that one missing low. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the bottom of the six. Outside corner. There’s a strike. Got him looking. That’s a strikeout. Well, he’s on a great run of strikeouts and showing excellent control and command, not walking opposing batters. You know, this offense, they’ve got to find a way to break his rhythm. Put the bat on the ball, maybe try to bunt for a base hit, get him off the mound, moving around, step out, something to interrupt his timing because he’s coming right after these guys. Aronado batting with one down, takes the strike. and a big swing and a miss. Quickly in an 02 count, you got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball. Put it in play somewhere. Then you got a chance. That’s off the mark. It’s a ball in two strikes. tapped softly on the ground. Allen and they get Aronado for the owl. Good late bite on that slider. Got the hitter out front. Rolled over on it. Exactly what he was supposed to do. Here comes the skipper. And we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Now pitching. Here comes a new arm for the Braves, Austin. And this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of them right here to get some critical outs. So two down now and here is Nolan Gorman both for two in this one. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. One ball, two strike swing and a miss. And that is that. The Braves pen comes through in fine fashion. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Braves five and the Cardinals two. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Andre Palante. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. One of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a tongue. Austin Riley. Riley reading things off and takes a strike. You know, these Braves showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. The numbers say their chase rate or swings at pitches outside the zone is under 25% and I think that’s a big reason why they’re scoring runs. just missed. By not chasing out of the zone, they’re getting good pitches to hit. When you can do that, you have a much better chance to square up the baseball and do damage like they have so far. Next pitch, not close. Up high. Pulls that one foul. And they’ll do it again. Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Very close off the outside corner. Could have easily been called a strike in that location. Shawn Murphy made it first. Here’s Shawn Murphy. That clips a corner. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Jojo Romero preparing to come on if needed. King also getting ready. And a curb is down and in. The 1-1 is fouled off. And that misses. It’s two and two. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. That one misses. Full countdown. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball in a row. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. And ball four to a board. Oh, you know this guy wants to swing it, but he’s showing some good patience in this one. It’s the second time he’s taken ball four. First and second, no outs. Jurgson Proar next up for the Braves. Right through there for a strike. There it was. the high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Ripped on a line to center. That’s a hit. Stop sign goes up at third and the bases are loaded. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Bases loaded, nobody out. Digging in, Marcelo Zuna. Just off the inside edge. Bases loaded, nobody out here in the top half of inning number seven. swing and a miss and a count even one and one. A strike out and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you’ve got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. Yeah, the 2-1 hammered foul. And that’s outside. Two walks in the inning already and he just doesn’t seem comfortable out there. Like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them. Here’s the pitch to Ozuna. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Battling here as he fouls it away. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. Base hit. One run in already. Save and the lead is up to five. That’s a good jump right there. Got two strikes on. He just got to battle. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Andre Palante done for the afternoon and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching new arm out of the bullpen. Jojo Romero. He has a great slider with tons of movement. Jojo Romero. Azie Albies will hit next. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. First and second here. No outs. Next pitch is outside and delivers outside. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Swaming a miss. There’s that change up. Filthy change up right there. Just pulled the string. Next pitch misses. Three and two now. No outs. Runners at first and second. And a seed into center. That’s a base hit. Coming home. He’ll score easily. And it’s an RBI single. It’s 82. Stringing them together, that’s three hits in a row. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. He stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. And now the center fielder, Michael Harris II. And that one sliced fouled. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. A little out front there as he swings through it. Great spot to be in right here for the pitcher. You can either strike this guy out or get a ground ball double play. One. This one in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate there. Stays alive. Goes down swinging for the strike out. Slider got him for strike three. Oh, that slider was way out of the zone. And for me, it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand, not tracking it into the zone, and then also being a little bit anxious, not confident in your two strike approach. And so, when a guy’s in that position, you get him to commit early, and a lot of times you get the swing and miss as you did right there. Allen stands in now and watches strike one. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit the 02. Got him looking. Two away. Here’s Auna now outfield deep here trying to prevent anything over their heads. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Some hitters are just more confident they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. Corners are occupied with two down. Close but called a ball. One ball, one strike. One strike and he gets that fast by him upstairs. Definitely not a pitch location you’re expecting up there as a hitter when you know the guy’s got a good sinker ball. If he can get in that location, boy, you’ve got to look top to bottom and that’s going to make it very difficult to hit. That one ripped way back there. And wow, that one is way out of here. A gigantic blast and they throw three on the board. It’s 11-2. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here’s Matt Olsen. First offering misses badly for ball one. just missed. Out. line drive. Knocks it down. Gets it there in time, though. And they do get the third out. The inning is over, but it’ll come at a cost as six cross the plate. Three of them on this threerun homer. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Well, this game isn’t very close, Singy. Let’s see if we got any messages from those tuning in today. I know we got some good stuff in there. Singy, where do you stand on the wave? Well, the wave of star players in MLB or the wave around this ballpark. The wave around the ballpark. I think it’s a little outdated. I’m more of a Thunder Sticks guy. And that’s not outdated. The other component is you get less viewings of a specific pitcher. So your ability to go to school on one guy, you maybe get two looks at him and then he’s gone. Yeah. And I mean these guys utilize the iPads and try to see previous footage of that pitcher, but it’s just not the same as having an actual look. swing and a miss. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Now at the plate, Victor Scott. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. That one a little bit high and it’s one and0. can’t make contact with the sweeper. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. The Braves up big in this one here in the bottom of the seventh. The next offering misses and the count’s even at two. Now a fly ball to right center. snags it for the second out. Now batting the designated hitter, Brendon. Now a chance for Brendan Donovan. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. 0 and one. That’s a little bit low. Inside corner at the knees for a strike. That one missed. in the air. Left field down the line. That one gets down for a hit and that keeps the inning alive. Now batting Mason win next up for the Cardinals. And that drops in for a strike. Whole one’s the count. That’s too low. And now it’s even. One and one. Ball two. just missed. So now two on and two outs. My partner known for being a touch hacktastic. All right. You walked 130 times. Oh my goodness. In your career. I can’t even believe. I can’t. I’d win. 13. Yeah. I I I don’t even seriously I don’t believe that. Furlson at the plate and takes high there. Two on, two outs. Six straight outside the strike zone. Here’s a 200. That one fouled off. Next offering is downstairs. Three balls, one strike. And they’re all loaded up. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass. Here’s Contras now. One for three. Check swing and he went. It’s 0 and one. 0 and one. Swing and a miss. No balls. Two strikes. That one not close and the count is one and two. That one just misses. Executed that pitch very nicely. Just missed with it. The count’s full. Base is loaded. Two down. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Two outs. That is ball four. And that’ll bring home a run. Really gotten himself into a mess out there and now forces home a run with the wall. This innings definitely getting away from it. Now up for St. Louis. Lars Nar. That one pushed to the left and fouled. So they’re all loaded up with two outs. Hard hit left side over to Alb’s and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. So they get one but end up leaving the bases loaded. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Braves 11 and the Cardinals three ready to begin the eighth. Here’s Austin Riley. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. Romero back to work. That one outside and that’s ball one. Next offering is fouled back. The 1-1. That one laced to center and a base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Just an awesome swing of the bat, quick hands, and just launched the baseball. 108 on the exit velocity. Man, that is coming off the bat pretty good. I know he’s feeling good about it. Now it’s the Atlanta catcher, Shawn Murphy. First pitch and he just misses. And another ball. Next offering is fouled back. swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and it’s now first and second to start the inning. Couple of singles back to back once you get the ball by the pitcher. There’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Jojo Romero won’t go any further and as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now pitching on the mound now. Phil M. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for the stats obviously regardless of the score. Here’s Proar now. Right through there for a strike. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. First and second, no outs. And we’re in the top of the eighth. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. He needs to throw that breaking ball with just a little more conviction to get the swing and miss. He misses. It’s a strike out. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him. And you know, the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact, but that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. Bzuna in now takes ball one off the plate. He’s a bullpen arm that keeps the ball in the ballpark, but obviously out of the bullpen, you’re looking to limit home runs. Yeah. And that’s why he’s such a high leverage arm. Just doesn’t matter for him. He looks at attacking the zone. There’s one out double play and that’ll do it for the unit. So, no runs on two hits, no errors, and one left on base. Last half of the eighth coming up, it’s the Braves 11 and the Cardinals three. Bottom of the eighth. Here’s the third base, Nolan Aronado. Nolan Aronado. This guy’s usually not one to chase pitches off the plate, but he did there. We’ll see if he can tighten up his zone a little bit. Ball one. One ball, two strikes. the count. Fights it off. You’ll see another way outside and the count now even up. That one is upstairs. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Gosh, another walk in this one. Man, he is having some real issues with control. So, a man at first, Nolan Gorman getting ready to hit. 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. That misses off the outside edge. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. He swings and fouls one off. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Oh, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still late on it. You rarely see that. It almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean, if you can’t catch up to the off speed stuff, there’s no way you’re going to touch a fast ball. Poso in the box now. No balls in a strike. Swing and a miss as he was late. No balls, two strikes. Let’s go. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Ball one there. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. makes the catch for the out. Now batting center fielder Victor Scott. Here’s the center fielder Victor Scott. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. Just missed. The Cards with a lot of ground to make up here. Bottom half of the eighth inning. Ball two. Two and0. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. And a foul ball. into center. Allen on the move, pulls it in on the run and that ends the inning. So, one left for the Cardinals. Still 11 to three. We go to the ninth. Now it’s the second baseman Azy Albies. Ball one, no strikes. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Number 49, the hardth throwing righty is up and loosening. King warming up as well. Right through there for a strike. Swings and misses. Now he’s in a one-two hole. Two strike. Crushed to right. This one’s got a chance. Out of here. a home run. That’s career homer number 149. And they add a run. It’s 123. Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball. excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. So, digging in, Michael Harris II, that one’s in there. Strike one. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the top of the ninth. This one high in the air to left center. Nuke bar and there’s one away. Up next for Atlanta shortstop. So up next, Nick Allen. He’s already homerred in this game. And that’s a base hit into left field. Now batting right fielder Ronald Aun. Here’s Ronald Akuna Jr. at the plate. That’s in there. And it’s 0 and one. Just missed. and a swing to miss. Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Matt Olsen up to the plate. First baseman, Matt Olsen. There’s the strike. Good pitch right there. Anytime you can get one by a bat of this caliber, especially with runners on, it’s got to give you some confidence out there on the mound that you can win this battle. Foul ball still 0 and two. Had a good eye there. One ball, two strikes to count. swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Albees with the key hit for Atlanta on now to the bottom of inning number nine. Major League Baseball is on the show back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Aniel de los Santos. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Back to the top of the order now. Brendan Donovan now at the plate. Brendan Donovan. And first offering is fouled off. and misses inside. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. It gets down a base hit. Having himself a really nice game at the plate. put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Man at first, nobody out. Mason Win next up for the Cardinals. See the velocity 97 with that fast ball. The Braves up big in this one here. The last half of inning number nine. Fly ball down the line. Ozuna ranging after it, calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting right fielder Alec Burles. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Alec Burlson. And look out as that one ran in and got him. And up to hit is Wilson Contras. Contras. Swing and a highf fly ball deep left field going back leaping and it’s gone. Wilson Contreres blasts one out. His 13th home run of the season. It’s 126. Wasn’t pulled on the first pitch at all. He squared it up right away. Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now. Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat, it looked like he was going to bend foul. Was able to keep it in there. Tucked it nicely and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Daniel de los Santos departs. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. the new pitcher in the game, Aaron Bummer. And you know, bullpen guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. Here in the bottom of the ninth, one out. Lars Nar the next to hit. Foul ball there. Bomber deals. Swang and a miss. Still only one out here in the inning. That one lined in left field and that’s base hit. Now batting one gone runner at first. Comes in to take his cuts. and foul ball. Already three runs across in the frame. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Out of line out towards center. Dives for it. Got it. Makes the play. Hitter’s got a broken heart on that one. It had base hit written all over it. Maybe extra bases. a great diving catch for the upset Gorman. So, it’s their last chance in this one. Nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals. 0 for four. Two strikeouts and two ground outs. Here’s a rocket out to left. He’s got it. Ball game. And the Braves take this one in a blowout. That was pretty close one until that huge seventh inning really turned things around. The bats just caught on fire and it seemed like nobody could make it out. They put a lot of runs up and that propelled them to the win.
