MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 12, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. Major League Baseball on tap. It’s the Toronto Blue Jays taking on the Athletics. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. just about ready to go. And today on the hill, Luis Severino and Singi, it’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strikeout. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think they can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Nathan Lucas leading things off and takes a strike and a pitch. Paul, that’s inside. That one’s in there. One and two. Cold night tonight, Boo. And that’s a pretty firm fast ball right there. I tell you what, memories of getting jammed, they creeping into my mind right now. [Applause] [Music] cut on and lifted in the air. Clark on the move to the gap. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. One away. Let’s take a look at our lineup. And something they talked about needing to improve on moving forward is their ability to apply consistent pressure. Chris, right now it’s not a club that gets on base enough. And sometimes, Boo, you just need a hitter to go up there and grind out and at bat, maybe have 11, 12 pitches, and all of a sudden, players get fired up in the dugout and they want to do the same thing. And before you know it, you start to get base runners on and you get a big hit and all of a sudden you ride that wave for a few days and go on a winning streak. That’s something they definitely could use. Severino kick, steals. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still finds a way to get off a throw and save. Couldn’t recover from the misplay. Well, looked like a pretty routine play. Just couldn’t get it to stick in the glove as he gets tagged with the error. Should have been two outs in the inning, but now they have to work around it and get two more. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Severino throws to first and Springer’s in there safely. I love the fact that we’ve seen both Vladimir Guerrero and Vlatty Jr. win the home run derby. They’re the first fatherson duo to ever win it. Vlatty back in 2007 and Vlatty Jr. in 2023. Even though his dad didn’t give him any advice for the event other than to go out there and hit home runs [Music] inside two and 0 man at first one away rolled to short could be two. Here’s Gellof for one and that’s two. One error in the inning, but nothing more. And the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. [Applause] Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starter, Max Scherzer. Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble. Trust that his stuff can have late life in this barrel. Now, the A’s designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. Butler. [Applause] Fast is outside. Butler, 24 years old, and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2018. And that misses and it’s two and 0. As a veteran out there on the ball, you’re trying to establish both edges of the plate right here. He’s working inside. And another ball that’s in for a strike. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Thought he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. And here is Brent Rooker. [Applause] Slapped foul. Butler gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Sher to first. And he’s back safely. [Applause] And that one upstairs. Ball one. And that one a little below the knees. Two and one. Toronto. got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Oh, that’s that slurp right there. He threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. [Music] Next offering is outside. Nobody out. Runner first. Here it go, baby. Let’s go. Struck him out. He says, “I don’t care about draft rounds. Take a seat.” He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And now one and two. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. [Applause] Off the mark there. And the count is two and two. [Music] Look out. And it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. Langelers. [Applause] That’s outside and that’s ball one. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. [Applause] Ground ball right side could be two. He flips it to second in time. Throw to first and it pulls him off the bag. Betting fifth, left fielder Tyler Sodestrom. [Applause] Here’s the left fielder, Tyler Soderstrom. Swings through that one. 0 and one. 01’s the count. [Applause] Two on, two outs. That’s a little bit low. One ball, one strike. [Applause] So, here’s Sherzer and a count one and two. Corners are occupied with two down. [Applause] Foul ball still a one and two count [Music] [Applause] and a foul ball. stays alive. [Applause] Down the line and it’s fouled. Runners on first and third. Two away. Up and in. And the count now even up. [Applause] And there’s a ball. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Miguel Anduha in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two outs. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. [Applause] Sherzer deals and they’re all loaded up. When you go that deep into a bat, the hitter usually comes out on top. That is it. Third base. Two outs. Base is full. Here’s Miguel and Duhar [Applause] in the air. Center field. Straw has a beat on it. brings it in and the inning is over. A’s threatened but leave them loaded. Scoreless after one and welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s the short stop. Come on, Luis. Severino back to work. Hard hit left side, zips it across and machete is retired. Batting fifth, right fielder Addison Barer. And next for Toronto, Addison Barer. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Severino, he’s become known as a guy that’s really tough to take deep. And that is especially valuable today, Chris, when the ball’s going out of the ballpark so much outside and one and one. It’s very important. It’s all about run prevention, right? So, uh, when you have that, it’s a plus. But if you are going to give up the long ball, you want the bases to be empty. And that’s where control and command really comes into play for a guy like this. And that one hammered. That’s back there to the warning track. Makes the catch. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. [Applause] pulls that one foul. Severino and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. This guy’s not wasting any pitches. Hitters got to get into swing mode. This is a good time to expand the zone. Throw something maybe down in the dirt. Up and in. And it’s one and two. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that Lined and that’s a base hit and that keeps the inning going. Batting seven, third baseman Will Wagner. Will Wagner the next to hit right through there for a strike. This one in the air on Duhart under it. makes the catch and that’ll do it. One left for Toronto. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And we’re back. Bottom of the second. Here’s the short stop at the play. Max M. [Applause] Max Sherzer goes to work. That’s a strike. Dangerous spot for that slider right there. Didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break. Tell you what, he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again. That one finds the zone and that is strike two. Umpire and behind the plate for us today, Boog is Mike Filillmore. And he is a good one. He’ll reward pitches on the edges a little bit, but the main thing is he doesn’t keep you guessing. Once he established that a pitch is a strike, it stays that way. The shorts stop takes a ball. Yeah, Philillmore kind of I don’t know, you’d say maybe an umpire’s umpire, but really consistent, very fair. And that one is in the dirt and the count is even. Two and two. And a slider misses down and away. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. That’s a nice at bat and a great take on 32. Probably could have gone either way in that spot around the knees. Zack Gellof up next for the A’s. [Applause] There’s the strike. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field. That’ll touch down for a hit. throw comes in, runner stopped. Second and third, nobody out. Everything came together for him. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity right on top of it. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. Golden opportunity right here. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. The one late swing fouled off. [Applause] And a count one and two. Muny the runner at third. Gellof at second with nobody out. Outside low and it’s two and two. [Applause] Man, Max notches the K. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. So now here’s the DH. Lawrence Butler. He reached out to walk his first time. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play. Still in the second already at 44 pitches. So some concern there [Applause] outside with a breaking ball. [Applause] And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And now it’s even up. [Applause] That one miss. That’s a really good take. Brent Rooker in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, that was such a great opportunity to grab the lead. You had the infield back. All you’ve got to do is just put the ball in play on the ground and you drive across a run. It’s a frustrating outcome for the hitter. Now still have a chance, but it’s probably going to take a clutch hit with two outs. And now the right fielder Brent Rooker. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. [Applause] Swings through that one for strike one. 01’s the count. [Music] [Applause] And a swing and a miss. 02 is the count. [Applause] Bands another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Out of the third inning. And now Ernie Clement. Ernie Clement. There’s the strike. [Applause] And that’s outside. The one-1 is fouled off. Got him looking. That’s a strike down. Next to hit, Miles Straw. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Soda grabs it on the run. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. Back to the leadoff spot in the Blue Jays lineup. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. Fly to center. His first time. He’s 0 for one. And that’s in for a strike. Go and one. [Music] Hit hard on the ground to short. Low throw and he can’t pick it. Oh, come on. You know, two out errors are kind of like two out walks and sometimes even worse. You know, you think you’re out of the inning, but all of a sudden, you got another out to get and the offense has a great opportunity. They’re looking to take advantage of and make you pay for. Here’s George Springer. He’s 0 for one. Let’s go. Boo. The runner at first needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound. Lucas, the runner at first with two gone. That one fouled off. Little chopper rolls foul. Got him. That’s the third out. So, no runs on no hits, one error, and a runner left. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. [Applause] set for the bottom of the third. And now Nick Kirkman Nick Curts Max Scherzer back to work. that one down the line and it goes just foul. You know, these athletics doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’ve worked three walks already, so that proves they’re not anxious up there. They’re sticking to their game plan and it’s working. Making four strikeouts in a row, just cruising along. Well, that’s a blue zone right there or gold zone on the hitting chart. just doesn’t have much success in that part of the strike zone. And a really good job of the pitcher executing. Try to go there as often as you can. The numbers are in your favor. Shay Langalers now at the plate. And that’s outside and it’s one and0. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. One out. Base is empty. Next offering is fouled back. He was a little out front, but did a good job keeping the hands back long enough to foul that pitch off. Ground ball up the middle and that one handled over to first and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Now batting left fielder Tyler Soderstrom. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom walked his first time. And that one is in for a strike. First pit strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper. And that is downstairs. One and one. Two out. Space is empty. Just missed. Two balls, one strike. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. Three and one. 32. [Music] Good job to fight that one off. Two down. Dominion on draws the walk there. Gosh, another walk in this one. Man, he is having some real issues with control. So digging in, Miguel on Duhar fly to center his first time. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. That one outside one and0. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. That’s in there. And it’s one and one. Singi, one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. Clement over to first and that is that the A’s strand one and we’re still knotted at zero and welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth and now Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Let’s go. Bring him home up the middle into the outfield. Base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Wastes no time there. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Bob Bishette up to the dish. Grounded out his first time off and that is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Guerrero gets his lead at first with nobody out. And that gets away from Langaliers. And the runner stays where he is [Applause] on the ground. Could be two. Off balance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Addison Barker next up for the Blue Jays for one with a fly out to center [Applause] and he pumps in a strike. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. All tied up. Top half of inning number four. Spang and a miss. Struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Really nice sequence with a quick strike out right there. Couple of breaking balls to get ahead. 02 then pump the hard stuff by him for strike three. And I like that he didn’t mess around. Sometimes guys, they like to get too cute. They waste a pitch here or there and then find themselves back into a hitter’s count. But right there, he had him right where he wanted him and pitched him aggressively to get the strike out. In steps the man they call Captain Kirk. There’s a strike. Here comes the one. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. is going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. And the swing and a miss. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Blue Jays held in check. Still no score. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning and the batter will be the shortstop Maxy [Applause] just Toronto’s bullpen with some action. Justin Bul the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose. Pena also getting ready. And the one Strike one. One and one and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. We’re going to take a look at the pitch sequence of that at bat. And the thing to notice are the pitch locations. Every single one of them on the edges of the strike zone. And as a hitter, that can be pretty frustrating because you don’t expect a pitcher to be able to make quality pitches one after another like that. And so those are tough spots to do damage in a great demonstration of pitch command and it got him a punch out that time. Digging in Zack Gellof and that one is inside ball one. Gellof 25 years old. He’s one of the few Major League Baseball players born in the state of Delaware. Next offering is fouled back. The 1-1 is fouled off. [Music] Base is empty. One away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Sherzer gets the punch out. picks up strikeout number seven. Just absolutely rolling on the mound. He’s looking very much on his game in the early parts of this one. Boo. Fully on the attack with these hitters. That’s seven strikeouts already. So, he’s got a good pace going. No doubt. Clark in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. So, two balls and no strikes. He looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Fast ball for a strike. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Countful. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Headed towards the corner. And a foul ball. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat outside and that is ball four. It wasn’t easy but he earned that walk after a long at bat. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Butler at the plate now. That’s ball one. If he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Runner takes off. throw to second out there and the inning is over. Well, trying to get into scoring position, but a great catch and throw to end the inning. That’s the way to pick up the pitcher. Will Wagner digs in for the Blue Jays, third baseman, Will Wagner. [Music] Severino back to work. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Well, these Jays as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for him to make contact at times and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group. Next offer in there for a strike. One and two. And on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had them eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game. [Applause] Ripped to short. rolls across the diamond and the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth. Now batting second base Ernie Clement. And now for the Jays. Ernie Clement went down on strikes his first time through. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. Rooker makes the play and there’s two away. Now batting centerfielder Miles Straw. Miles Straw will hit next. Fly to left his first time. This one in the air center field. Clark settles under it. And that is that. Halfway through this one. Still no score. Now pitching four. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth. And taking over on the mound, Justin B. This is his fifth appearance of the year. Back to the top of the lineup. Stepping in, Lawrence Butler. He has struck out and he is watcher and that is out of play. You know, these A’s showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’ve already earned five walks in the game and of course that’s providing them with a lot of runcoring opportunities. Barker snags it and there’s one down. Up next for the A’s right field. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. Right through there for a strike. 0 and one. [Music] That one the other way. Clement slings to first in time. Now Batty the first baseman. Nick Curts. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts. And that one is downstairs. Ball one. Two outs. And another ball. Ball two. You got it. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Swinging a ground ball and foul ball. Got him swinging. And the A’s are gone in order. And we are still scoreless. All set for the top of the six. Now here’s the lead off man for the Blue Jays, Nathan Lucas. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. One’s the count. [Applause] And that one ripped to left and foul ball. [Music] Ball one. One ball, two strikes. The count stays alive. [Applause] runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. So, when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. Springer stands in now and watches strike one. Pretty frugal guy. He is very efficient with the pitch count in this one. That one finds the zone and it’s on two. Well, this guy on the mountain has done a lot better than we would have expected and the hitters just don’t seem to have the right game plan. And they’re taking too many mistake pitches for called strikes. Got him looking. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. Chris, third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the start. Yeah, he’s been very frugal today. Economical with the pitch count. [Applause] Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Now one for two and that’s in for a strike. Next offering misses and now it’s even one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. Next offering is down low. fouls that off to the left and we’ll do it again. [Music] Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. Back up the middle in a base hit. And that extends the inning. Now batting shorts stop Bo Bett. Bo Bashette gets a chance to hit. Go for two in this one. Dives and he can’t hang on to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Nice weight transfer there. He gets the front foot down and when a hitter’s hitting against a firm front side, his hands can be lightning quick through the zone. So up next for Toronto, Addison Barger. [Applause] First pitch misses. Go ahead run at second and we’re the top half of the sixth. [Applause] on a line. He’s got it. And that’s the third out. Make it six shut out innings for him out there now. And we still have no score. Bottom of the six. And now here’s the A’s catcher Shay Langalers. Now for the A’s, catcher Shay Legal. O, that one went straight back and got our ump right in the mask. Let’s hope he’s okay. Next pitch misses way outside. Movement in the Blue Jays bullpen. Braden Fiser appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Little also throwing and he boots it. Still fires to first. Throws it away. Doesn’t get too far away so no one moves up. Left fieldielder. That’s a dangerous throw from the first baseman to try to handle right there. Exposed him to a potential collision and we’ve all seen some of the ugly ones over the years on plays similar to that one. So, it’s great nothing came out of that other than the throwing error. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. [Applause] And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. with a go-ahead run at first here in the bottom of the sixth [Applause] with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here [Applause] in the dirt. No movement. Now a ball and two strikes. That one not close. And that’s ball two. Langelers aboard here at first with nobody out. Still two and two after the foul ball. [Applause] And that one almost got him. [Applause] gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Eighth pitch of the bat coming up. [Applause] Foul ball and it remains a full count. [Applause] got him looking and he did not like the call. Well, big strike out right there and maybe a little controversial with the call and I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that and I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the play today. Miguel Anduhar up next for the A’s definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] Way to lay off that pitch down. [Applause] And that misses. And that’s ball two. Kicks over and he breaks for second to second and he’s out. And that one fouled off. Two down. Nobody on to the right side. Here’s the tag and he’s out. Misplay doesn’t cost him. Inning over. Top of inning number seven. And now the catcher comes up to hit him. Alejandro Kirk. You know, Boo, there always seems to be that oh no moment for the pitcher when he’s lost control of his pitch. And most of the time it’s right when he lets it go. He knows that it’s not headed where he intended it to go. [Applause] Wagner up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. Next offering is in for a strike. The go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. Not even close there and a count two and a one. [Applause] Little bouncer out in front of the plate. Fires to second. They’re low and they get him easily at first. It’s a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Ernie Clement next up for the Blue Jays. [Music] And the first pitch misses for ball one. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. That one’s in there. And that is strike one and downstairs. It’s in and out of his glove. Still able to fire over. Safe at first as they can’t make the play. Now batting the center fielder, Miles Straw. Go ahead run on base. Here’s the center fielder, Miles Straw. Just missed. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. Two gone. The possible go ahead run at first. Severino checks over to first and he’s back. a little bit high. Now 2 and 0. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Number 49, the young right-hander up and throwing. Nukem, the lefty, warming up as well. Come on. That one’s spoiled. And the countdown now two and one. Now a fly ball to right center. Rooker sizes this one up. And that is that. [Music] Now pitching four. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Braden Fiser. He’s got some of the best swing and miss stuff going right now. He’s striking out hitters at a very high rate this year. So this should be fun to watch. And now the shortstop Maxy strike out and a watch. What’s up, Max? Fisher in his rookie season, 24 years old, and they went out and made a trade for him last season. First pitch, and he just misses. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Strong settles underneath it. And there’s one down. Now batting second base. Next up for the A’s, Zack Gellof. [Applause] Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. Swings and misses at the sweeper. Not close with that one. Now one and two. swings through it for the K. Tied him up on a fast ball inside. Up next for the Denzel Clark up next for the A’s Denel. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list. And that’s in for a strike. and you played behind guys and they loved having your speed out there defensively. One of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those elite defenders behind him. He’s looking to put the go-ahead run on base. The 1-1 is fouled off. Hugan, the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. hitting wise, you can struggle, you can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Number 49 Back to the top of the order. And now for the Jays, Nathan Lucas. [Applause] Outside low, ball one. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Mason Miller, a right-hander with big strikeout stuff, is getting it fired up. [Applause] smoked on the ground. A second lead off man is out here in the eighth [Music] and it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. 0 for three in this one. [Applause] check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike one. All tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth and ball one. and fouled off. [Applause] One down, base is empty in there. Sets him down on strikes. Not sure about that call. Pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this war. That was his third strikeout and this one looking obviously. So he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. And next for Toronto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. That one hammered but pulled foul. just missed. Fly ball center field and that is that ready for the bottom of the eighth. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler [Applause] Fiser back to work. Late swing fouled to the left. The one ball one there. [Applause] [Music] Grips one to right and it stays fair. Now he turns and heads for second. Here’s the throw. Not in time. And that’s a leadoff double all over that one right there. Nice line drive to the pole side. Bed it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. Now a huge at bat in this game coming up. And now here is Brent Rooker 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That’s outside and that is ball one. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Next offering is in for a strike. Swinging a miss at a slider. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. Go ahead, run and score in position. Nobody out. Swing and a miss. And he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. Next to hit, Nick Curts. Close but called a ball. And that’s ball one. [Music] [Applause] Man at second. That’s in there. And a count. One and one. [Applause] Fiser checks the runner. Butler back on a dive. down the left field line shoot the extra bases. Runner around third. He scores and they have the lead and he’s into second base with one away as the goal ahead run. Well, they strike first as he gets the job done and bring home the run. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in the swing, he was able to meet it and still line drive down the line and left. [Applause] One out, runner at second, Shay Langalers up next for the A’s. That one catches the corner for a strike. One-run game. The A’s looking for some insurance. [Applause] inside corner for a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Owen now swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Just blown away in that at bat. Three fast balls, all strikes. He wasn’t even able to foul one off. There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. He’s got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. Couple of walks and a strike out. Up next for the A’s. Third base. First and second, two outs. Miguel Anduhar getting ready to hit. [Applause] pitch misses and it’s one and0. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. [Applause] That one 95 missed up top. Ball two. A’s leading by a run. [Music] [Applause] Just missed. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] fouled off. He was late. [Applause] Swaying in a miss. Struck him out. They limit the damage here. One run in the inning, but they leave two through eight full. It’s the A’s one and the Jay’s nothing. now pitching back now. And on the mound, a closer Mason Miller. And we all know about a slider. It’s just dopey, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a tongue. Bobette now at the plate, one for three. What are you looking to do in these spots? You’re down a run. You’re leading off the inning. He’s not a power hitter. A guy that’s looking to tie it up with one swing. So, he’s going to take and get into this at bat and try to get deep into the bat ultimately, however he can get to first base. Looking to get the tying run on base. I got a ball. One strike. [Applause] This one driven deep way back there and it’s gone. We are tied and we’re starting over. It’s one one. The brighter the lights, the more he shines. Yeah, this guy lives for big moments. And right there made a statement big time. [Applause] Most times it’s the pitcher looking at the scoreboard for velocity, but in this case it’s the hitter. He just turned around triple digits at the dish. I don’t even know how he saw that pitch. Maybe he didn’t, but he got a home run out of it. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. The batter now Addison Barger swinging a foul out of play. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. [Applause] Swing and a drive. This one is crushed. No doubt about it. And here in the late stages, they have the lead. That should get the dugout going. His 13th home run of the season. And they jump in front in the ninth. It’s 21. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I could feel that swing from the booth. [Applause] We’ll do you one better than a tape measure by breaking out the numbers from Stackcast. The distance 450 ft on the dot. Oh my goodness. And that’s one boo. You’re going to see it making the rounds on social media all night long and all the highlight shows as well. I know I’m going to be watching on a loop. That was absolutely crushed. And now Alejandro Kirk, first pitch doesn’t find the zone. Ball one, no strike. [Applause] That one hammered center field. That’s back. And that one is going to go. It’s his eighth home run of the year. And they tack one on the board. It’s 3-1. backto backto back home runs. And these guys look so dominant right now. Pitcher might want to check and see if he’s tipping his pitches or not. But I tell you what, if this was basketball, that opposing team would call a timeout to try to slow down this offense. Manager out of the dugout now, and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Mason Miller out of the game and a home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm coming on after the break. Now PJ so a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s. Elvis Alvarado. He’s into the game with the bases empty. Will Wagner the next to hit [Applause] and first offering is fouled off. [Applause] swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. Sodestrom balls it in and there’s one away. Second base Ernie Clement. So up next, Ernie Clement. [Applause] There’s the strike. Felt impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch. That’s the key. Try to get ahead in the count. Then you can play around a little bit more as the at bat expands. [Applause] And a foul ball. [Applause] Swings through it and that’s a strike out. I’m not sure that was the exact location the pitcher wanted, but it worked. He got the swing and miss and I’m sure a bit of sigh of relief after seeing that one go through the zone. [Applause] Straw the next to hit takes ball one. Two gone. Base is empty but three runs across here in the top of the ninth. And that’s Stout Stairs and the count is 2 and0 [Applause] and fires in a fast ball at 95. Two outs and one pushed foul. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Two strikes [Applause] [Applause] to third on Duhar. whips it across and the inning is over. So they get three and jump ahead late. Bottom part of the order, 789, two up in inning number nine. It’s the Blue Jays three and the A’s won. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Jeff Hoffman. He has a great slider with tons of movement. Jeff Hoffman. Now it’s going to be Max. Shortstop Maxy. First pitch misses. late on that fast ball. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful. Not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. [Applause] Late with the swing there. That front door slider, such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there it’s out of the swing play on the inside corner for called strike three. Well the first batter it’s always a big one for the closure. I mean you get that punch out. You get settled in. You feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you’re going to wrap this thing up. [Applause] Gella in the box with one away as he takes ball one. [Applause] He swings and fouls one off. Base is empty, one away. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. all sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. This is definitely what a team likes to see out of their closer. Come in and just destroy all first two batters, two strikeouts. See if he can strike out the side. Clark in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. They’re down to their final strike. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing anding miss and get through this at bat. Got him. And that’s the ball game. The ball game. This team had to battle with that 10th man. Those fans making a lot of noise, but they took the lead in the ninth inning, quieted things down, and were able to get those final three outs in the bottom half as well. Just a very wellexecuted ball game. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shami saying so long. [Music]
